Room was in good condition. Spa was not very well attended showers need remodel and we’re not being cleaned - towels were not picked up it did not give a good impression. Spa services and entrance fees were overpriced for quality and appearance. Room service was extremely slow - front desk staff was very nice but hotel is understaffed. Grounds are kept nice. Corporate element is very noticeable and has ruined what was once a beautiful resort.

If we could give 20 stars we would! Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Our room and the entire hotel sparkled. The staff was so polished, yet so friendly and approachable. We had delightful food in the bar and restaurant. The grounds are so beautiful. We can hardly wait to return!

We (my 3y/o Pekinese, Rames and I) spent Christmas day and that night at the Sonoma Mission Inn. I really loved the welcoming atmosphere that included dogs! I loved the \"love energy\" in the space. We dined at the bar and the service and food were excellent. We spent time in the common areas talking with others briefly sharing personal histories. The service was excellent from the moment I pulled into \"valet\" service, to housekeeping - the room was well appointed and immaculately clean. It was a perfect day. I plan to make this a Christmas tradition. Thank you, Sonoma Mission Inn staff, for creating a welcoming and loving space for everyone...especially the dogs!

The stuff is really good and hospitality is excellent. But the hotel is way overpriced, for a 5 stars hotel I was expecting a better rooms and amenities. The curtains are from the last century, the crib was rusty and you have to pay extra for everything. The parking fee is dropped from the sky as they have a big parking inside the hotel.. I am not expected to come horseback riding after all. You have to pay for the indoor pool and hot tub $69 per day which should have been free for residents and it’s below average and small anyway. The instagram videos are very misleading. There were no slippers nor toothpaste in the room.. that’s a minimum to have in a 5 stars hotel. Overall, the hotel is a 3 stars downtown hotel with the price of a 5 stars resort. I wouldn’t come again. But again, the staff was wonderful. The food is meh.

I expected a modern hotel with a refrigerator that worked and a microwave in my room.. I didn’t know heater radiators still existed. I expected a maid who cleaned and didn’t leave dirty floors in my bathroom or used wash clothes.. I expected restocked clean wine glasses and water glasses.. I paid discounted for 4 night just under $ 3000.. oh I forgot the $60 a day resort fee.. which accounted for me a bottle of wine and a glass of champagne on arrival. I’ll go to Napa Valley from now on! If I’m paying big bucks I’ll go to a place I know will produce

The hotel cancelled part of our fully paid non-refundable reservation 4 days prior to arriving.
When we did get there the room smelled horrible and they had no other rooms at the level we booked at and wouldn't refund any of our pymt if they put us in a lesser room but required us to pay extra to upgrade to a different room.
Nothing has been upgraded in the rooms for several decades.
In short, this hotel was awful.

Disappointing Stay That Fell Short of Four-Star Standards

I had higher expectations for a property advertised as a four-star hotel. A true four-star experience is defined by exceptional service, thoughtful amenities, and overall quality — not merely by the price. Unfortunately, this stay did not reflect that standard.

While the accommodations were adequate, there was nothing distinctive or memorable about the experience. Nearly every amenity came with an additional charge, which diminished the sense of value. Parking was an extra fee despite the hotel’s location in an area with ample space. Breakfast was not included, and complimentary coffee was only available until 8:30 a.m. — a surprising policy, as most hotels provide coffee service at least through the morning hours.

The resort fee was particularly disappointing, as it did not appear to include any meaningful amenities. Access to the spa incurred an additional cost even for guests, and the steam room was out of service during my stay.

Overall, this property did not meet the expectations typically associated with a four-star rating. The experience felt more focused on additional charges than on guest comfort or service quality.

Beautiful grounds and comfortable rooms. The mineral pool is something special. You can tell how much thought and care the staff puts into making this an amazing place to stay, from the small touches in the rooms to the fun activities around the grounds. Front Desk Staff are very friendly and professional. Perfect spot for a relaxing vacation in wine country or a staycation if you’re local.

Beautiful grounds, beautiful lobby, beautiful and huge room. 2 problems. I was annoyed at being asked to pay $30 a night for self park on a $600+ per night room. Same with $10 for extra wood for the room fireplace. The big issue is noise. The grounds are large and very lush. They need constant maintenance and you can hear it all in the room. Early morning trimming and cutting everywhere. Plus when anyone ran the water, you can hear it very loudly in the old pipes. At one point I think there was a leak above because it went on for so long. I expect more for $600 a night.

The walls are paper thin and we got a terrible couple next to us that made noise constantly from when we arrived and starting at 5:30 am.

The hotel Manager was empathetic and said they would refund but it was a third party reservation. Hotels.com took care of this by contacting the hotel and working out a refund.

This hotel needs a serious renovation for sound.

We utilized nearly all aspects of their considerable property- the pool, the spa, the lobby bar, the firepits, the outdoor games, the restaurant. It was all WONDERFUL. My stay was overall lovely. The restaurant on site was delicious and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Love that they offer complimentary transportation into town. The gym was a little bit dirty and unkept (spider webs on the equipment). I tried to make a spa appointment but the last few time slots got quickly taken as we were trying to set it up. But overall wonderful property and nice rooms!

Enjoyed my mother-daughter trip. The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed the amenities. Because it was a weekend, the main pool had many children. Our other option was to pay for a day pass, which seemed expensive given that we were staying at the resort. Other than that, it was great. The staff at Santa was exceptional!

Disappointed at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn

We were a bit disappointed on this stay at the Fairmont in Sonoma. Part of the spa was shut down due to construction/remodel the pool that was supposed to be 104 degrees was freezing cold, we had a gift card that took 2 employees and a manager to figure out. Still not sure if we received a credit or what happened. Parking was so confusing we just parked on the street. We only found one fire pit working in the evening out of the 5 we tried. In house wine tasting was a disappointment as well.
We have seen better times here in the past so we remain optimistic.

Love this place. Very happy we chose to stay here. The pool was divine. I had a massage at the spa & the whole spa experience is very nice. Highly recommend planning to spend some extra time at the spa…lots of good stuff to enjoy before & after your treatments. Our room was perfect. Spacious & luxurious. We felt very spoiled. Can’t wait to go back!

We loved the spa, that entire experience was excellent. However, the overall hotel experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, the valet never came to greet us. We self parked, and took our multiple pieces of luggage through the valet area but yet they still never acknowledged us. We intended to dine at the restaurant on Friday night, but discovered it was booked out for a special event. The hotel should have sent guests a notice about this, but that was never communicated prior to our stay. After checking out, the valet area was once again over-crowded, we could barely pull our car in to load up because 3 construction trucks had pulled in. The room was supposed to be a premier room, we found it cramped and nothing more special than a nice Marriott. Overall, for a Fairmont property, this was quite unimpressive.

There was no access to the spa pools unless I paid an additional fee. I expected that the resort fee would include access to those pools since the resort fee stated pool access as part of that fee. Since I came here to use those pools this ruined my 75th birthday celebration. I am extremely upset and unhappy with my stay at this resort.
I also was told I would get birthday gift, never received it!,

Beautiful property and rooms. The coffee truck was the only thing that was disappointing. My latte was $8 and it was not hot and not well made.....someone should do quality control there.
However, your spa and pool staff were amazing....so welcoming and eager to please - including the woman running the spa cafe (red head).

We had a wonderful friends weekend in sonoma. Mainly the hotel was really great - comfy beds, clean bathrooms and wine offered upon check in.

We had a cabana at the pool and after a few hours, we discovered one of the cabana chairs was covered in ants. Very little was done to help remedy (we removed the towels and ultimately the wicker chair) and we were still charged the full amount for the cabana rental which was disappointing.

Would still return to the hotel and stay, I'd just keep a more watchful eye!

The main pool was lovely and had a great bar and really good food, but the spa pool was terribly understaffed. The check in took a long time and they couldn’t access our Expedia reservation so we had to wait an extra 2 hours before we could get in our room. At Sante Azucena was a fabulous waitress and the food was great.

The property is built in the mission architecture style that is warm and inviting. Staff was helpful whenever I had questions. There was wine tasting in the main building from one of the local vineyards that I hadn’t visited before. The wines were delicious and went to downtown Sonoma to buy. I ate in the bar and spa. Food was fresh and well prepared. What I think the property should add are walking gardens. We did get the massages at the spa. The spa features the warm mineral water from under the property. That was enjoyable to partake. What I think the property should invest in are walking gardens. The grounds are primarily just buildings (rooms, spa, main entrance) with outdoor pool and fire pit seating areas. Gardens would enhance the spa atmosphere. Sonoma downtown is about 2 miles from the property. We did walk to the downtown, but there are sections without sidewalk. So, the walk was not as pleasant as it could have been. I learned later that the hotel has a trolley to downtown. Overall, the hotel is in a beautiful location in a quiet setting.

Afterwards I was looking for coffee and I asked the front desk and the person there instead of letting me know that there was a coffee maker in a drawer inside the room, sent me on a pilgrimage to the outside bar for a 6 dollar black coffee. Those types of details definitely make a difference

Hotel is a bit dated and needs some upgrades. Trying to reach the hotel by phone or to modify a reservation is painful. The hotel charges extra for everything, including use of the hot tub, even though rooms are well in excess of $500/night. On the plus side the staff is friendly and the shuttle service to town and local restaurants is a plus.

Sonoma Mission Inn is a grande dame of the wine country. However, it's starting to look tired. Our rooms were spotless, but the cement outside of our rooms was peeling, some walls could have used a painting (a little dingy). The gardens are very well cared for.

Checking in, the young woman at the desk didn't look up to acknowledge that the four of us in line were standing there. (If she was busy, she could have simply let us know she'd be with us in a moment). She failed to offer my friend and I a glass of champagne, although it was included and they offered it to other guests. Checking out- there was only one person at the desk with a fairly long line of people. Had to wait 10 minutes before someone else came and helped me.

Lobby and dining area- some of the seats were stained, although things were technically clean.

All in all, not what I would expect from a Fairmont Hotel.

I travel frequently and stay at a lot of hotels, so my comments are not from someone who has no comparable hotel stays.
