The property view and the amenities were spectacular. The rooms were spacious and luxurious. The view from room O was delightful at all times of the day. It did not matter that the property was a little far away from Lugano, the shuttle took us into the city so that we could dine and shop. Would love to stay there again.

We were really looking forward to our stay at the hotel however, we left rather disappointed and dissatisfied. The room, though large was very outdated and had an unusual layout. One small example, the loo was in its own large room yet still was situated so close to the wall you could hardly sit down.
The concierge weren’t great, my husband and I both spoke with them asking for different meals on three separate evenings. Each time, we were recommended to visit the same restaurant despite asking for different cuisines. We did go to the recommended restaurant on the first evenings as we knew no better and saw three other guests from the hotel. I know how concierge works but they must have been getting some serious kickbacks from this one particular restaurant.
There were many other little niggles such as children screaming and jumping around the very small pool and pool area and no one stopping them. Very little service at the pool also.
No space for us to have an aperativo before supper, no space for supper. Apparently you had to book weeks in advance but no one told us and quite frankly, at a 5-star hotel, shouldn’t guests be a priority!?

A beautiful property with attentive staff. Gorgio the concierge was especially helpful. We upgraded to a panorama suite and it was very large and comfortable with incredible view. The breakfast buffet had nice variety, The bar and the restaurant are good, but expensive. The outdoor terrace is lovely -- the indoor bar could use a \"refresh\" in design although in the nice summer weather we preferred to be outside with the incredible view. The one thing to note about the property is that to get to/from downtown Lugano can be expensive. During the day if you are fit you can walk down and back (a bit of a climb) and the hotel does have a shuttle service at certain times. But, in the evening taxi was required.

The restaurant staff for dinner didn’t seem to be knowledgeable. The manager ( in the suit) did not make us feel comfortable. He hovered the entire dinner and seemed pretentious! I ordered a latte and received a glass of milk. Of the five day journey across Switzerland, the only food we rated as bad was the salad we ordered at dinner. Everything else at the hotel, I would give an excellent rating!

We enjoyed a great treat at Villa Principe Leopoldo. Location and views are absolutely stunning. The service quality is great and the dinner at the gourmet restaurant was amazing. We tried the private spa and it was a great experience: very clean and totally relaxing. The hotel has a lot of charm. However, there is no indoor pool and the gym is outside the hotel and a bit outdated. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and will come back!

We (hubby, home from college son, and wife/mom) stayed at Villa Principe Leopoldo for one night at the end of May. We lucked out with the weather and had a picture perfect day. Our balcony overlooked Lake Lugano and the view was stunning. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and well kept. It is definitely secluded (in a good way) and a short ten minute drive into town. Included breakfast was delicious and served overlooking the lake and pool. Only qualm was that the hotel-the hallways and rooms-could use some serious updating. With the exception of the “dated” issue, this place is 5-stars.

This hotel represents a terrible value and it has the atmosphere of a home for the elderly. I regret not doing better research in advance. I booked a lake-view room over the Expedia website and I was given a room with a view of shrubbery so tall it completely obscured the lake. When I pointed out I had booked a room with full lake view, they offered me a lake view room for an additional $200 more per night. I felt taken advantage of and asked to leave so that I could move to a different hotel. The front desk refused to even attempt to re-rent the room to someone else (not even for a portion of my three night stay), so I was a prisoner unless I wanted to walk away from $600 per night. The hotel does have a beautiful, breathtaking view from the restaurant, and the food there is excellent although extremely expensive. I feel the restaurant is worth the splurge for special occasions, but the hotel is merely a 3 1/2 star hotel with service that brings it down to a 1. I went from here to Villa d'Este, which is night and day better. Compared together, Villa d'Este is a 10 and Principe Leopoldo is a 2.

Very comfy hotel, small and pleasant, great room and facilities. The only drawback is that Restaurant service could be more expedite and friendlier within Swiss hospitality. The waiters are not nice and they make you feel uncomfortable when serving you. It is as though they are doing you a favor! I also noticed they do not like serving teenagers even for such expensive food! Teenagers are very big clients as it is quite close in distance to a top swiss boarding school. Other than the poor restaurant service the hotel is very nice and beautifully located. Breakfast is better and the staff are much friendlier!

Gorgeous hotel overlooking the lake. You need the shuttle or a car to get to the city center. Restaurant is great and the setting is beautiful. This is a Relais & Chateau hotel so plan on spending a lot here.

It a pity that there were maintenance works occurring during our stay . We had not been informed prior to our stay . When we arrived there was a giant crane outside the reception that was obstructing the entrance . As it was raining heavily we got soaked as had to navigate around the crane . They did have umbrellas at the door but nobody was there . The next morning there was a guy outside the breakfast area using an angle grinder for whole duration. There was only a sign on lift informing guests of maintenance works.

This is a lovely hotel overlooking Lake Lugano. We stayed in the main hotel so we had great views. Pool was lovely and service was very good. It is nice to be out of the \"busy-ness\" of the main part of the city but you are still only about a 5 minute car ride to very good restaurants in the historical town. Included buffet breakfast was wonderful.

If you go to Leopoldo you go for its breathless view. Day and night tou have one amd mybe the one view on lugano lake. The main terasse is beautiful. The breakfast terasse as well. You do feel in a 5* terasse.
The hotel service is great. They are all very nice and helping.
The SPA is a private one so you need to book at least couples of days before. Its full all the time. And Paula is a true professional.

I booked the hotel based on the picture of the magnificient view from the hotel for some friends visiting from US. However on arrival we were advised that we were staying there but across the road in another section of the hotel, with no view. Asked about an upgrade we were politely informed that as we booked on expedia that was not possible. The hotel section without a view was clean but well dated. The gym is extremely dated, the sauna postage sized and the pool was closed for the winter. One redeeming feature was a clean room and a good breakfast.

Not in central Lugano but next to my daughters school where I need to be. But to get to Lugano is only a 10 minute ride.

Luxury but not feeling home...
Location: High above Lake Lugano, need a car to get there. Beware: the hotel consists of the Villa itself (with view on the lake) and the Residence (with no view at all).
Rooms: We stayed at a renovated room in the Residence and found it extremely big and comfortable. The bathroom facilities are ok, but the shower could be better. No tea/coffee in-room facilities, but free water is provided.
Breakfast: pretty good selection of cold cuts, cheese, fruits and cereals. Hot selections limited to eggs and ham. Coffee offered and served.
Restaurant: expensive and dress-coded, we did not go there.
Spa: we did not make it there as reservations are required.
Gym: reasonably equipped, water and towels provided. Sauna was closed for renovation.
Staff: very \"posh\", like a \"royalty butler\". But they do their job.
Overall, good impression and recommended.
