This property is old and worn, but clean, functional, and full of character. Carpet was in bad shape underneath the table by the window, but so what? Enjoyed sitting there with a cup of tea, looking out to sea. Bed was very comfortable, plumbing worked, and everything we needed was in walking distance. We enjoyed playing the guitar in the lounge.

Absolutely run down, our door had about a 10cm gap under it, could hear everything from other rooms/landing. Got woke up with loud noises from pipes? Bathroom dirty dead spider on the floor, hairs in the shower, cracks all on the ceiling, carpet all frayed up and wallpaper hanging off parts of wall. Bedding had marks on it too. Hardly slept the whole weekend

Tried looking for someone to speak to both Mornings and none about.

Very nice staff and comfortable bed however the carpet was old and worn to the point where there was hoops of carpet big enough to trip me by the bathroom door and sharp pins sticking up from under the window where it should hold down the carpet but there was not much carpet left there .. a few stains on the wall but other than that enjoyed it

Nice views - through dirty, permanently locked windows. No ventilation or ac, no window to open. Free car park means park on the street. Very nartow shower - average person will struggle to get inside.
To use the kettle, you need to put it on the floor - cable too short to connect it in position from the photo. Good things: kitchen. Beach at the other side of the road. Lot of dining options

Position was great. No mirror in bedroom or power in bathroom which meant you had to stand outside bathroom to dry your hair. Shower difficult to get into and move around but shower was good. Threadbare carpets on stairs. Blinds had no controller. Having said the above I would return purely for the position.

Very run down guest house but good location.

Fantastic location by the beach with on street parking, but very run down guest house. Handed a key when arrived by friendly cafe owner, though no direction to room or info provided. Found our way. Dangerously fraying stair carpet, broken old blinds and lights. Bathroom was clean with hot water and good tea and coffee facilities but the room was dusty, the fan broken and very uncomfortable beds you could feel the springs through. Heated argument in early the morning by ( assume) residents downstairs that went on for some time, with no one on site to intervene. A real shame given the great location.

You expect a hotel but you see a run down hostel entrance. We wind through hallways with ripped shredded carpets. The room faces ocean. Bedding looks white and ironed. Carpets are still shredded to threads! Leaves impression of total neglect by management. Only bright side was cheery man who checked us in (from West Africa I suspect). We left after 1 night of a 3 night reservation. No refund. My advice: Give Aberystwyth a miss entirely and especially this place.

The reception member of staff was excellent throughout our stay. Very friendly and approachable. I can’t comment on the service of the room as there wasn’t any.
The room was very clean and equipped with a good hairdryer, ironing board and iron if you needed it along with soap and shampoo etc.
The whole building is very tired and could do with money being spent on it especially the stair carpet which is thread bare in places and could be a hazard.
It was fine for our needs.

Sadly degraded since our last visit

Friendly staff and fantastic communication to ensure we arrived with details of how to check-in etc.
We have stayed at this hotel and left ok-good reviews, however, on this occassion we are sad to say we weren't impressed. It's a shame because it's in a perfect location, the building has great character and the staff are very approachable. It just appears that whoever is in charge doesn't want to spend any money on the neccessary basics.
The room was extremely tired (Room 7). The bathroom fan didn't work, the fitting holding the curtain fell halfway down every time we opened the curtains. Wallpaper had come off the walls in sections. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, checking under the bed there was actually a panel missing too. The worst being that the door to the room actually had a large gap at the bottom which meant that you might as well had not had a door attached as you could hear ever conversation in the hallway and in the opposite room. We had to put a coat down to block out the hallway light. Last time we visited there were available plates available to anyone in the kitchen area. The carpet on the stairs was beginning to come away. Unfortunately, this time it felt like we were using plates that belonged to someone who appeared to live there as the only options in the (unclear) commune cupboards were a mix-match of large bowls and one plate amongst other kitchenware.

Corners have been cut

Bit gutted writing this as I never ever want to knock a small business, not sure if the photos will upload but the carpets are falling apart, some of the ceiling paint fell onto the bed when we arrived as well as dust on the bed. Bed was comfortable although incredibly loud and creaky which led to poor sleep and constantly waking up.
Room is damp in places. Definitely needs some tlc, shower and toilet leaking couldn’t find anyone to speak to. Table for teas and coffee right up against the bed, a smaller table for the room would make a massive improvement.
The whole place could do with some love has some potential to make the rooms a bit more welcoming. Should change name from Guest House to Hostel, as Guest House is a little misleading.

Did like the easy key pick up and drop off and the extension lead.

Even if it was called a hostel, unfortunately I wouldn’t return:( I hope this feedback is somewhat useful.

The chap who was on reception during our stay (Abdallah - apologies if I've misremembered, or misspelt, his name) was welcoming, helpful, pleasant and friendly.
The room was very comfortable, and the presence of a fridge was very welcome, as was access to the kitchen downstairs. In the bathroom, the shower was great, but the toilet was a little bit tall/raised up, making it a bit awkward to sit on, and the seat wouldn't stay up on its own and had to be held in place in case it fell back down.
The coffee and cake in the cafe downstairs were lovely and reasonably priced.
Some of the carpet on the stairs was a little worn and, while it wasn't a problem for us, it could be a potential safety issue if it's not replaced/repaired soon.
Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Needs serious improvement but perfect location.

Purely booked to use one key cash points and somewhere to go on bank holiday. Wouldn’t have paid full price (£80) for rear room. Carpet really worn out throughout property and doors needed work - the hotel room door had a big hole and bathroom door didn’t shut properly. Needs extensive renovation. We also noticed the room floor wasn’t level. However the room had everything you needed for short stay - had towels, toiletries, kettle, tea and coffee etc. Location was perfect and staff really friendly. Average stay!

We wont be coming back.
We rang 17 times with a couple of important questions in the week prior to check in. No answer.
On arrival we banged on the locked door for 20 minutes...no answer. Then a neighbour told us to go next door....which was actually a different name and different number. The guest houses were joined inside but nobody had bothered to tell us. The phone was ringing in reception...it was being ignored.
Inside a labarinth of corridors, stairs, doors, etc to our room...in the original building for which the key was lost...so we could go out that door but had to come in the other door.
Room was over 30 degrees and stiffling hot. We asked for a fan....they didnt have any. Windows were screwed shut!!! Receptionist said she keeps telling owner to buy fans but he refuses. We asked to move rooms and were allowed ...there were a lot of empty rooms ...but again stiffling hot and windows screwed shut. We met a man on the stairs...\" Im not staying in this sh..t hole\" he said and trundled his cases down the stairs. We rang around but nowhere else had vacancies so we spent evening in and out of the cold shower and dowsed ourselves with wet towels.
Carpet threadbare, scuzzy fittings, filthy windows , etc....

Appeared clean but needed repair!

The room was a lot smaller than it appeared in the photos it was a very warm day when we arrived and the room was very hot as it was a sea view. Only one window was able to be opened which I had to have help with by staff as it was very stiff. The wallpaper was lifting off the walls in the corner of the room and there was a hole in the plaster and parts of carpet were threadbare. The table lamp also needed replacing. The room appeared clean but was relieved we hadn't booked for more than one night. There as no one in reception to complain to when we checked out so we just left the key. Definitely not worth the £123 we paid.

Nice place, horrible bed.

The chap on reception (might be the manager) was very friendly and helpful. Although there are narrow corridors, the hotel overall is not grim, and \"feels\" pleasant. It is certainly clean, which for an old building with the usual plaster cracks is some achievement.
Getting a parking space is always a bit of a gamble that end of Aber. The public car park over the road at the back of the hotel is one we've used many times and never seen cars damaged or broken into.

The mattress was horrible (the owners might call it \"orthopaedic\", I say \"hard\") and the pillows about the thickness of two thumbs. We had a sea-facing room and the table and two chairs in the window were a pleasant place to sit and look at the waves. The room is too small to fit a comfy chair in. There's a \"cubby-hole\" type wardrobe with iron, hairdryer etc, and the en-suite is small and functional.
As a base for getting out and about, it would be great with a decent bed and pillows (at least you could sit on the bed in comfort, then). If you're young-ish and healthy, you can probably still sleep on a plank and be comfortable, so it wouldn't be a problem anyway.
There is a large communal kitchen area, which is presumably why \"self-catering\" is mentioned by the hotel. There was a young family using the facilities perfectly happily when we were there, so it's probably a good option for a longer stay.
Overall, I liked the hotel. But I like a decent night's sleep too. Upgrade the beds, will ya?

Only stayed for one night travelling up from South to North Wales. The hotel is well placed directly overlooking the beach. We were lucky enough to have a beach front room on the second floor, so the view was excellent. The hotel is close to all the beach front attractions an easy walk to restaurants and the peir.

The hotel had a communal kitchen and common room, both were well equipped. The room had tea and coffee making facilities. There's no lift in the hotel so we had to carry out bags up two flights of stairs...not a complaint, but if you have any physical challenges this may not be the place for you.

The room was small, very small with just enough room for the bed and a small table in the bay window. Likewise the bathroom was tiny, if, like me you are overweight you'll struggle in the shower.

That aside the host was welcoming and helpful, the room and site were very clean and the bed was comfortable. It was a booked at a good price and if all you want to do is use the room to sleep then it's a great option.

One last thing. Car parking it you drive there is likely to be a challenge.

Finding our roots in Wales

After a long drive from Bridgewater, it was a welcome relief when we found ourselves at the Celtic Bay House and our host, Veronica, made certain that we got a nice room with a view of the ocean. We were fortunate enough to find parking at the car park to the east. We spent the rest of the day hunting for our forebears.

I would visit again

We really enjoyed our stay at Celtic Bay Guest House. We visited during Easter Break. At arrival I was greeted by a very polite receptionist. Room and bathroom were dated but clean. We had sea view, which was perfect. I suppose it can get noisy, but all guests were respectful and we had no problem with the noise. Essentials were included. A bit pricy for what it is, but I suppose that's due to the Easter weekend.

Stayed in #11 of Cardigan Bay Guest House and it had a gorgeous view of the ocean, size just right for one or two guests. Easy walking distance to most everything In Aberystwyth. Friendly staff! 50 steps up the stairs as it is on the top floor. Would stay there again.

Great place to stay for the night

Location is amazing, right at the beach. The welcome was warm and great, really nice to be invited like this. The room was comfortable and large enough. Very nice shower (albeit rather small) and beds were good. Sea-view from the room was lovely and very good coffee facilities provided. The overall look of the place is very tired (haggard one might say) and could do with an upgrade, especially considered the price of the room (room only!).

This is self-catering accommodation and I would be very happy to come here again. The ensuite bedroom I had was clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee-making facilities were provided in the room and I particularly appreciated the cafetière and small sample of ground coffee. The communal kitchen had lots of equipment and fridges. While some food was labelled with current guests' names, others (e.g salt, porridge oats) were unlabelled and I assumed had been left by earlier guests for sharing. It would be good to have a clearer (colour coded?) system that clarified what food was personal and what had been left for communal use. Guests should also note that Celtic Bay ask guests to advise time of arrival on the day (this instruction was half way down the second page of my confirmation document and I missed it)

NOT NICE apart from the view! Was a very hot day, windows all closed and at first look seemed like all jammed shut. No staff available downstairs. Room was like an oven, had small fan on all through the night, didn’t sleep at all well. Gave one of the sash windows a try in the morn and with a big effort (I have arthritis) one opened a small way but fell down like a guillotine which could have been nasty! How dangerous and ridiculous! Once opened fresh air at last but then…. A coach pulled up outside, left engine running for ages. I had to close window as fumes nasty. After 10 mins turned off and waited there. He was picking up a few hotels up an hour later!

Service excellent, hotel mediocre

The hotel itself is really old and well worn. The room was clean but the carpet is a bit gross (threadbare, didnt feel that clean, keep your socks on). Bed was extremely uncomfortable. En suite bathroom very small with old fixtures. Room was very hot, no fan in room but one window opened. View from window was beautiful, and the service from the front desk attendant (Abdullah) was exceptional.

Lovely, Comfortable with Sea Views.

Extremely comfortable and exceptionally clean, sea view ensuite room with coffee/tea making facilities, good range of tea, coffee and hot chocolate available. Iron, ironing board, fan and hairdryer located in built-in wardrobe. Good sized table for 2 and 2 nice chairs located in the bay window.
No breakfast provided due to covid but there is a nice big communal kitchen where you can prepare your own, wash up and clean up after yourselves, fridges and freezer to keep your food fresh. Table in kitchen and other tables in communal lounge area for eating. Decor throughout is basic but extremely clean throughout. Smart TVs in every bedroom and free Wi-Fi. The Guest house is roughly around 20 yards from the Old Police Station that featured in Hinterland (Y Gwyll) which is now being converted into luxury 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments. There is plenty to do in Aberystwyth, plenty of eateries and take aways which you can take back to the Guest House with you. We had a lovely comfortable stay with everything we needed.

Generally it was ok. Excellent location, friendly staff and very clean linen. Basically it needs a great deal of repair and renovation. Clean windows are essential to enjoy the wonderful view.
