Upon arrival, we were sent to a room without power and a leak in the bathroom. The stafd had shut off the power because of the leak so they knew about it but put us in the room anyways. When we were moved, they provided us with a free drink voucher which was nice but when we tried to use it to order a pint, they only brought us a half pint.
When eating at their restaurant, their cesaer salad included carrots which I am allergic to. This was not listed under the allergens or in the menu description. When we brought this up to the staff, they were dismissive, denied any responsibility and told us that we should have informed them ahead of time. We were also charged full price deapite not being able to eat the salad that was ordered.
I developed severe food poisoning as a result and was stuck in the room for the rest of our stay. We wish were could have canceled our second night and gone elsewhere.

The Hoban is a favourite stay when in Kilkenny. Rooms are clean and beds are so comfortable. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food is great. The Hoban, is fairly central to everywhere. Less than 5 minutes to the city centre and its historic castle and medieval churches, never mind the shopping and dining experiences to be had. Just off the main road for Clonmel and also the M9 motorway. Perfect place to stay while not breaking the bank. Comfort, food and welcoming atmosphere. What more could you ask for 👌

This hotel was fine, but a ways outside of town and located next to a shopping mall. Set up for business conventions. But the room was spacious, bed comfortable and a good shower. A bit noisy but our room was right above the front door.

Our stay at The Hoban Hotel was very comfortable. The bed was just right, and the shower was superb! I would recommend to the hotel that they install stronger fans to reduce the humidity in the bathroom, and to discourage smokers from smoking right outside the building (our window was open and someone at the front entrance sent smoke right up into our room).

The room was nice and clean with a modern feel. The bed was two dingles pushed together and the bottom sheet did not fit. This was annoying as we were staying for two nights. The bathroom was small and the door automatically shoot at rapid speed which always hit you as you entered the bathroom, this was very uncomfortable especially at night.

We arrived at the Hoban Hotel in Kilkenny on 9/6/2025 and found a real mess. For starters, the Hoban exteriors looked very run down and old. Like a fallout zone on the side of a busy highway. We examined the room and found old and dated furnishings and few of these. The box frame for the bed had smeared with something brown and gross and the room had a rank odor that drove the Mrs. Out into the hall. Upon further, examination, we realized there was no AC and the windows were cracked open for ventilation. So now I had a stinky, gross, unsafe road noise filled room!
Went to front desk. The initial response from the hotel desk clerk was no refund due to it being less than 48 hrs before deadline. They offered us another ground floor room. Mostly same condtions. Finally got them to refund the price minus a fee and told us that we had to get the money back from Expedia because we paid Expedia.

We arrived to Kilkenny for a wedding on Thursday. We chose this location because it was slightly outside of the town center, had its own parking and was relatively close to all of our needed amenities. The staff were lovely and while the food wasn’t for my pallet, the rest of my family enjoyed it. We’d do it again!!

Friendly reception and given a room away from the bar and restaurant as requested. Had dinner in the restaurant - food was fine and reasonably priced. Comfortable bed and good sized room. The room was quite warm and had no means of control. Not sure where the heat was coming from (but not outside). Our bathroom fan was continually on all night. In the corridor was a cupboard with loud and low frequency humming noise also all night. Night staff informed but they didn't do anything. Given free breakfast as compensation but does that make up for a disturbed night?

I loved everything about this hotel! The beds were comfortable, and the room was cozy. All the staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Chris at the reception desk was very helpful. Jonathon in the restaurant and bar was great and Masimo was knowledgeable with everything from places to go in town, the train station and assisted us with Taxi's.

For the price the room was tiny, bathroom tiny and roof very stuffy- no fan in bathroom so after a shower the entire room was stuffy and window only opens a crack which I understand is code. We really enjoyed our stay in the Hoban, we were able to check in early. Our room was very large and clean. Looked very new and modern. Rooms had an espresso machine which was a nice addition. The breakfast was great with lots of variety. Only small criticism was that the room was very hot trying to sleep and the bathroom door was on a chain and kept slamming so could be an issue if you had kids staying.

On arrival at reception the staff isssued the incorrect room compared to what I paid and booked. Ot took 3 different trips back and forth to rooms until they eventually got it right. There was a language barrier as English is not their first language. The room has no good AC so thr bathroom steams up and room is stuffy and hot. There was no residence bar. Breakfast was advertised to finish at 1030 however there was little food by 0930 and not replaced. The hotel is located in an industrial area and you need a car or taxi to take you to the city unless you like walking in the rain.

We only had one incident on our last day where my husband and daughter had a run in with the front desk, we were guests and had complementary breakfast with our lodging, the server told them that they were with a bud tour that had just left and needed to pay. They should have simply asked to see our room card to solve their problem but we’re instead rude. These are things that a well trained staff could have easily avoided. Otherwise everything was great and I will stay there again. The location is perfect for those who like being close to downtown but don’t want the congestion. Kudos to the lady who checked us in-she was fabulous!

Overall excellent. Only minor quibble is that there was no obvious way to control the temp in the room. Even with the radiator fully off it got very hot at night. The location is more suitable for a motel. While a brisk 20/25 min walk will get you to town centre it involves horrendous unregulated carriageway crossing. Food, service, comfort excellent but do bring the car.
