The property location was beautiful and remote. The rooms were lovely, clean and nicely furnished. The bathroom was nice too but the shower curtain was a little moldy

The property and the surrounding region are both beautiful and great for exploring. The hotel itself was incredible - the staff were friendly, the bed was very comfortable, the ammenities were new, and the hot tub was excellent!

This hotel is in a beautiful location along the Golden Circle and close to the bigger town of Selfoss. The hotel itself is in desperate need of renovation and repair. Our room was tiny, with extremely old furniture, no bathroom space to even brush your teeth and a weird shower combination that left the entire bathroom floor wet. Just touching the greasy remote for the television was disgusting. We booked and paid for two nights and we were so unhappy that we left after the first night, losing our second night's payment. For the money, this hotel is well below the standards of any hotel we stayed in Iceland. The pictures on the website depict modern rooms with nice furniture, which was obviously nothing like our room. The breakfast was fine. The staff were not necessarily rude, but were definitely not friendly.

Overall it was good. The remote for the tv did not work. There should really be a phone in the rook, in case for emergencies. This is a great place to stay if you want to stay outside of the city!

Our first room was older and had a bad smell. Luckily the front desk attendant moved us with no problem to another room that was newer and had no smell. Good hotel and had a nice restaurant with a great view.

Stayed in the suite. It was fantastic. Clean. All amenities needed. Staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Even the food in the restaurant was wonderful. Location is great with horses and mountains all around. Great location for viewing northern lights!

Frustrating stay

This previously family owned property has many things in its favour but still a way to go to offer a consistent experience to its customers. It is located well to visit key local attractions, we were welcomed professionally and liked the times we used the bar area. The dining area décor is good and the evening meal menu ok (but not good enough to be tempted to eat there twice. Unfortunately the quality of the room was well below average. 1970s style work furniture and a small rather musty smelling bathroom really soured the experience, despite there being tea and coffee making facilities which was a bonus compared to other properties we used. The shower temperature was very unreliable too despite supposedly being thermostatically controlled. Breakfast was generally good but if we ate later in the morning some choices were no longer available such as fruit and yogurt. By our third and final day the only fruit on offer was rather brown-coloured apple hacked into chunks! It was a frustrating stay - hopefully, over time, they will address the issues with the hotel as it has so much potential

Design hotel in the beauty of Southern Region

The hotel has a great look, positions itself beautifully within the surroundings. The design inside is sleek. The rooms are comfortable, have modern look and offer the amenities you would expect from a boutique hotel. Great communal areas, too.

Breakfast was very good. The rest of the stay was rather underwhelming, would have liked to know that the front desk did not have staffing after a certain hour. Also, the pictures of the rooms that were posted did not reflect the actual rooms. Would suggest also posting the rooms that aren’t updated so that guests know what they are getting in to

Excellent hotel with splendid breakfast

Fosshotel Hekla was a great experience - staff was friendly, rooms were large and clean albeit a bit cold. I had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and was blown away both times.

Great location, near Kerid crater, secret lagoon and within hour and half of black sand beach , glacier walk and many waterfalls . We stayed here after doing the golden triangle and watched the northern lights from the garden and enjoyed the hot tubs .

OK hotel but out of the way with no major features

This was the 2nd Foss Hotel we stayed in traveling west toward Reykjavik. However, the advertising was a bit deceptive as it indicated a proximity to Selfoss. Actually it was about 20 minutes outside of Selfoss and difficult to locate.

The hotel itself was simple and comfortable. However, it was too far from Selfoss to explore for dinner. While the other 2 Foss hotels we stayed at (Nupar & Hellnar) had spectacular locations, this Foss Hotel was remote and didn't offer a specific attraction. We were therefore surprised that this hotel had the most expensive dinner, appetizer, and wine prices.

If you're traveling the southeast part of Iceland, I'd recommend staying in Selfoss where there is more competition for hotels and meals.

Quiet location, well situated for touring

Hotel was very comfortable, our room was a good size, with access to a balcony. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. We had a very good dinner, the food was excellent. The morning breakfast buffet was also very nice with a great selection to choose from. The hotel has two outdoor hot tubs and a steam room. Everything was very well cared for, with serve yourself coffee/tea & hot chocolate available at any time.
It's a great location for touring area attractions, in a very pleasant country setting.

Good Hotel with Free Breakfast

Overall this hotel was OK. Restaurant was average. Best thing was that hotel had free breakfast, which had a lot of good options like scrambled eggs, sausages, and even smoked salmon!

Room was clean and good sized. Bathroom was small - bathroom sink had very little counter space to put things.

This hotel was in the middle of nowhere, which is great for Northern Lights if you are lucky.

Hotel has 2 floors but NO elevators. Our room was upstairs so it was a pain to carry the heavy luggages up the stairs. There were small stairs/steps along the hallway as well. Definitely not a hotel that is wheelchair/accessibility friendly.

Fantastic hotel. More remote than others.

We absolutely loved this hotel. We booked a family suite and were amazed at the space that we had. A huge main double bedroom complete with sitting area, a twin room off this and a very large bathroom. This was also the cheapest hotel but for everything it offered we all thought the best. It was the only hotel that we stayed at that offered to make up a packed lunch (for a fee).

I Do NOT recommend this hotel

I have very low standards when staying at 3 star hotels and for the record, during the trip I stayed at 3 star hotels most of the nights (except the night at fosshotel glacier lagoon). I was overall satisfied with the hotels EXCEPT this one.

1. One of the two main lights was OUT which leaves us with two tiny lamps and one main light on ceiling.
2. Bathroom shower stall does not drain fast enough - water all over the bathroom & Bathroom smells & Tiny sink
3. Heater is not warm. It was the COLDEST NIGHT in Iceland - I had to sleep with short pants and short sleeves at other hotels cuz it gets hot but at this hotel, I had to put on long pants and it still was not enough.
4. The curtain does NOT CLOSE all the way - I had to use my clip to hold the curtains together.
5. Front desk staff was okay but when I asked her if she could put me down on Northern light wake up knock list, she said she doesn't do that service for no reasons - She literally said \"I don't do that service today. I just don't\" (there even was a tour group in the hotel)
6. at 9 am, a cleaning staff was unlocking our door just assuming we have checked out because tour group ppl have left. After I asked them what's going on from the inside they stopped trying to open the door and left WITHOUT apologies.

Even after reading my review, if you are still planning on staying here, make sure you bring a CLIP, EXTRA BLANKET, A SIGN that reads 'we have not checked out', LIGHT BULB, and DRAIN CLOG REMOVER.

Friendly hotel in gorgeous setting

The hotel was really nice, the staff were very friendly. The food in the restaraunt was first class and reasonably priced for location.
We are planning on coming back in summer

Coffee and tea in the hall which was nice, only slight moan was lack of TV channels, although I spent a lot of time freezing on the balcony looking for the lights!

An older hotel in the country

Hotel itself is like an old country house that needs to be updated a bit. Room was ok - bathroom shower was actually a drain in the floor with expandable doors that you pulled out around it. Nothing fancy. Outside there were two hot tubs - one was out of commission. There was also a steam shower. Restaurant food was good but expensive - and you basically have to eat there as you are not that close to any other restaurants. I would recommend it. For the price it was a good hotel.

Lovely hotel with hot tubs!

Had a great stopover at this hotel, we had a room for 4 people, which was actually two rooms connected together and very spacious. The hot tubs were very welcome at the end of the day and it was nice to be able to eat in the hotel restaurant (necessary as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere!)

We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. Both were fantastic. The room was very clean and the hotel had great views of Mount Hekla. The woman who checked us in was very helpful and was very patient with all of our questions. I'd recommend the Foss Hotel chain to anyone traveling to Iceland.

Mixed feelings about this hotel. Nice surroundings and the hotel service was efficient. However, walls was very thin. Food was nice but Chef a bit lasy. Hotel menu for dinner mains was the same every night we stayed and ditto with breakfast - no variation (other than the home baked bread which was nice). No problem if staying 1-2 days but any longer - look for another hotel. Don't pay extra for the Hekla view. Not worth it.

What a gem!

Exhausted from the long drive around much of the Golden Circle, my husband and I checked into this delightful hotel! The staff at the desk are superb -- and helped in every way that they could. Our room was clean with a comfortable bed. The lounge was just what we were looking for as we enjoyed a glass of wine and read our books. The breakfast the next morning was excellent. After breakfast, we enjoyed the hot tub before we left refreshed and restored to continue on our tour.
