Definitely not 5 star

I will try and not become a Karen, but there are things that need to be said.

This is definitely not a 5* hotel. It is attached to a 5*. I would say it is 3* quality with perhaps 4* amenities.
The entrance hall is large and grand, but it does not make you feel welcome. The reception staff were somber and did not raise a smile throughout the check-in.
The rooms are less hotel and more individual garden apartments. It is difficult to get your bearing at first. The rooms are very dated. Despite being non-smoking, the room had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. I was offered another room that smelled much better. The second room was identical but the air-con was very noisy, the fridge didn’t work, the bath was filthy and damaged, the shower head was broken and the safe was broken, not joined to any surface and had clear signs of previously being broken into. I asked for a refund so I could leave, but was denied.
The pool area is very nice and well kept. A lifeguard is normally on duty and also provides towels. Breakfast is $20 each. There is a souvenir shop with friendly staff.
The hotel itself is on a main highway across from the Grand Museum.
Overall it is nice enough as long as you are thinking 3*. To be honest, this was the second hotel of our trip to Egypt and the smaller Boutique hotels are much more welcoming. I would give this one a miss.

Perfectly acceptable value for money

Perfectly good value for money. You have to sort of put aside the \"5 star\" label and just consider what you get for the price charged, which was very acceptable. Room was pretty comfy although a bit tired. The garden layout was attractive, the pool good. I'd question including apic with a view of the pyramids because you don't actually get that in this hotel. The area is midst a load of work aroudn the new museum, so chaos. Might be much better when all thats completed. but it is very close to the sites (not that walking around is easy or recommended!). Staff were helpful and friendly if not terribly proactive. Breakfast was OK with a good range of choice. My only niggle with the hotel is they charge 5* prices for drinks and food but bottom line its not really a 5* experience. but for the money, i'd go back. By the way book dinner overlooking the lights and music show by the Sphinx - at sunset. very cool.

A rare find

This far best hotel I've stayed at in Egypt. Not far from Giza Pyramids. What was most surprising, is that when I requested a taxi to the pyramids, the reception didn't call some over priced service that's soul mission is to over charge me just because I'm a tourist! That is a rare quality here, and tells me that the staff are actually looking out for their customers! There is also a restaurant in the back (has a pizza oven you can watch) that serves great food, wish I could find food like that everywhere I go. You won't regret your stay here. Also, taxi's are right outside, so easy means for transportation to anywhere.

The room description clearly indicated the room would have a balcony, mini bar, and etc. The first room assigned didn’t even have any bath robe, slippers, or working WiFi. The 2nd room’s WiFi was better but it didn’t have a balcony. It had a small lanai with two chairs. Also, the facility is supposed to have Multiple restaurants, but it was barricade and couldn’t access to some restaurants and their bigger pool. Steingenburger hotel appears to have bought Cairo PyramidS Hotel and the booking made with classic rooms was placed in a bad side of the hotel without accessing the whole hotel amenities.

Negative first, because I would have given a 5star rating if this didn’t happen. Before going to Egypt we read all about the Locals swindling tourists and decided to play it safe and speak to the sky taxi/tour service on offer by the hotel. This was a mistake. The man at the desk spoke all about how he wanted to offer us the best service lie lie lie. He offered a driver who could take us to the pyramids for $13 US. We thought that was a good deal and expected to simply pay entrance fees and a fee to ride a camel if we so desired. We were told that our driver would stay with us all day, but he ended up taking us to some terrible backstreets to meet with some man we weren’t told about, who offered us a horse and carriage ride to the pyramids. We told the driver we didn’t want this, but the man became angry, making it seem like we didn’t have a choice. Being jet lagged and in a very dodgy looking area we really didn’t feel we had a choice. He offered a price of 900 Pounds each and no possibility to barter and we were sent on our way. Our driver was very unhelpful. To make matters worse, the carriage driver stopped us after the pyramids tour asking us for money and refusing to take us back to our driver without a tip. If you want to see the pyramids take an Uber and pay the entrance fee and then choose for yourself whether you want a carriage or camel. That is our advice.

Remainder of the staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was dated but clean. Overall good value for money.

This property looks nothing like the website, it is completely outdated. The staff are very slow at getting things done: requested iron three times, requested laundry twice. The best part about this hotel is the breakfast, that was the only thing satisfying about this place. Very disappointed.

Too hot to sleep and too noisy to sleep. No one he

The air conditioning in the main made a very loud rattle when on. It worked to provide some cooling. The air conditioning in the bedroom did NOT work. I could NOT SLEEP IN THE BEDROOM. IT WAS TOO HOT! I reported these problems but no one came to fix. Bathroom had mold growing on outside of tub and vents were very dusty. I had to sleep on cot in main room where the air conditioner there was very noisy. I reported this and I was told the room was old. So I paid for a hotel in which to sleep and could not sleep on the bed. I paid for three miserable nights. And when I asked to change my room no one could help!!

It's a beautiful setting - you can see the Pyramids if you stand at specific spots - like by the pools! The garden areas are well cared for and very pretty. Having the other 'sister' hotel is great - a newer pool and facility, is a nice balance to the older Cairo Pyramids. The concierge was not much help - and while he offered to setup a day trip (and he did)- he was always pushing for 'more-more-more' add-ons, bumping up the cost. He did not listen to what we wanted - when we finally got a 'taxi' to where we wanted to go (the Pyramids) - we were derailed with side stops that we didn't ask for - - meaning, he had 'connections' with those people to get kick-backs on what we might spend. One stop was a dirty back alley where they put on very heavy pressure to take a 'tour' on a horse and buggy to the pyramids area - it was an uncomfortable - and frankly - dangerous - situation. We refused, but it was brutal. So - we went to a different hotel after that to use their concierge! (who was great).

Staff were absolutely fantastic, so friendly and engaging, they all made our stay really enjoyable. Location of the hotel is great, right next to pryamids and close to the sphinx. Pool is great, still a little chilly in april, but not so much that you cant enjoy it. Food and drink is a good standard, great value for money, no need to all inc as its very flexible, which really added to our week.

My only criticisms would be to have basic amenities shop with priced goods, rather than that being a bartering session. It would also be nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but not essential as the room service is open 24hours and is reasonably priced.

Overall we had a great holiday, thank you so much. To the staff , thank you for being so nice, and we hope to see you again.

Bedside lights didn’t work. This was reported on the 2nd day but no one came to fix. A service charge of 12 percent on drinks ordered at the bar. Shower didn’t work. No do not disturb signs and maid entered room without knocking. Room shabby. Wine £27 per bottle. Dining room was freezing as air con on so high. Printer didn’t work so had to have written receipt on check out. Stale croissants at breakfast. The only reason I can think of that this hotel is five star is that it does have a good gym.

In the same location they have the new and the old hotel. The photos you see in the web site are only of the new part but... when you get there if you book it from hotels.com the room you get is the old dusty ones also called bungalows. Very disapointing

All rooms are on the ground floor in bungalows and have their own patio area. The rooms are spacious and functional. There are no tea/coffee making in the rooms.
There was no hotel information in the rooms and when we asked about the restaurants we were only told their opening times. The rooftop is CLOSED and has been for 3 years. This was one reason we chose this hotel. There are 2 polls, but no one told us where the second was. We did find it by accident on our last day.
The staff although outwardly friendly, like to engage in other conversations with ither people while they delay answering your questions.
I don't think we'll be using this hotel again.

A little dated but comfortable.

We had a very comfortable family stay at the Cairo Pyramids hotel. We stayed in one of the bungalow rooms which was ideal since our grandchildren ages 5 and 8 were with us. They were able to play outside on the lawn right outside our room safely. They even met other children and had fun in the pool. Though the rooms are somewhat dated, we didn’t spend that much time indoors so it didn’t bother us. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom large enough. Again, it could use updating but was okay for our needs. The hotel has a lovely lobby and dining area where an excellent breakfast and dinner buffet is served. WiFi is spooky at best like most places in the area. Buy a SIM card at the airport and you’ll be fine.

The hotel is still under constriction in the pool area, however the view over pyramids is stunning and possible to take a nice photos from there. I was traveling solo and 1st the reception worker has offered me the family room in the old part of the hotel where was 3 painters painting with fresh paint. He was trying to help me to bring my suitcase up to the room and have got himself dirty with paint. Then it was obvious I need another room and he brought me to the new building on the top floor with view over pool and museum which is also under construction. However I have tipped him for the effort, but it seems not enough for him. However everyone in Egypt is aiming for tips on every step. The room was amazing all brand new. I paid for the quality room with view initially and could of avoided the situation in the old block :(
The food for the breakfast is good. The Italian restaurant is good as well, eatable. Overall experience is good.

They seemed surprised when we turned up and told us the hotel was full although we hardly saw any people there at any time. Check in took a while so we left them to it whilst we went out. When we returned we were placed in rooms as far from the main hotel as you could get a good long walk away from Breakfast etc. There were multiple steps between the room and reception so make sure someone takes you bag and shows you the way if you are not in the main hotel building.

We booked 6 months ago for rooms with Nile views. We were placed in a room with no views unless you go to the balcony and hang over the edge looking between trees to the left or right - so very disappointed when we can see amazing views from the main hotel and other rooms facing the main Nile river. We were told \"it's an island\" so every room has a Nile view yet you can't see through trees. You couldn't use the furniture on the balcony because it was so covered with pigeon poo.

The guy serving in the restaurant by the pool was very friendly. Breakfast was average.

There was a great view of the Pyramids from our room. The staff were very friendly and quick to respond to any issues. There is a lot of construction currently going on in the hotel, so there is a lot of noise due to renovations, but this does not go on late at night or early in the morning. The new GEM is currently being built right across the street. I felt very safe here, there is a lot of security prior to entering the premises ( a K9 checking all cars prior to entering premesis, metal detectors at entrance, and security guards). Anything they can do to make sure you are happy is done.

I encountered one of the worst hotel experiences and I have traveled the majority of East Africa on a low budget. The hotel was completely misrepresented as something that it wasn’t. Not only did it not live up to 5 star standard the hygiene and cleanliness of each of the 3 rooms we were shown was totally unacceptable as they were all extremely filthy. We were then offered another room for an additional $60. On top of this, the swimming pool on the website was closed due to maintenance. Reception refused to let us speak to the manager and the reservations team. They proceeded to act ignorant in how to help. Due to this we had to leave the hotel and find alternative accommodation.

we arrived in Cairo on my birthday - the pre booked taxi from the hotel failed to appear - on arrival reception was less than welcoming our room had twin beds although we had booked a king size so we had to be moved - there was no apology from the hotel staff at all quite disappointing - following thunderstorms our roof leaked we had to request a move yet again - once more they tried twin beds once more I requested king size eventually this was sorted out - just dont need this hassle on a weeks holiday

Great location since the hotel is located in Giza. Some rooms has a view of the pyramids. Restaurants on site which is so convenient. They offer buffet breakfast though I noticed that they separate tables for group tours and regular guests. Coffee/tea made is kind of watered down and you serve yourself (this is for the group tours) when busafter buses leaves the hotel then they changed table setup using nice table napkins and replaced the coffee/tea again and someone serving you coffee/tea in your table.

This is a nice hotel that is close to the Pyramids and the new Museum. I would say it is four star rather than five, but it was very nice. If you like Sheshaw, it was poor quality compared to other places, but that might have just been the day I was there. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again. It was really good value for the money.

Bit of a miss

Basic hotel that needs some love as it looks a bit tired. No water in the main pool when we were there. Would help if there was actually a sign with the hotel's name as our driver went straight past it. Breakfast was mediocre. The main issue we had was with the reception staff. Completely vague and uninterested, even sarcastic. Requested toothpaste that never came. Spend a bit more and stay in the Mercure next door.

Terrible and lazy staff who show no accountability or responsibility. Had to request multiple times to get things done and even then no action. The room was not made up when I checked in and was another room that was also not made up. Spent more than an hour in the middle of the nighr trying to get a room. Expedia should be ashamed of themselves for recommending this hotel to me. Rooms are actually dirty and really shows that house keeping is atrocious. DO NOT STAY HERE!

TV is very old, telephone sets are very old and dirty, staff particularly on the telephone need more customer service training to be more friendly, location is good, breakfast is good, room service food is good but they don't take the plate out of the room..when I put outside for pick up it took two days to remove it from the terrace. the hotel design is excellent but it need upgrade...no kettle the first day, no cups no tea etc which is included in the fee..no sleepers, no robe..very uncomfortable..it is not recommendable...

Hotel has no signage.Taxi spent an hour or more looking for hotel.Wifi code was not mentioned when we checked in.-Presumed that wifi was not working.Caused lots of problems accessing mail.
Taxi service charges triple fares.Lots of cigarette smoke smell in reception area.Wont stay next time.

Close to Pyramids

The hotel was spotlessly clean and constantly being cleaned and maintained inside and out.
The food was good quality with a wide variety of fresh produce. Waiter service and staff very attentive, polite and helpful.
There is an ATM on site for withdrawals. When travelling take Sterling and change at the airport for local currency for tipping (everyone expects this). Though not too much, use the ATM or use Sterling or Euros as everyone accepts this (except official centers, entrance to Pyramids, Museum etc).
Take care using local taxis off the street, use the hotel or find a guide to take you around. I found a very good guide who charged £65.00 for full day sightseeing including taxi travel around also.
Tipping, Porter Egyptian Pounds £10.00, taxi driver Egyptian Pounds £100.00
Good trip had and would go again

great time

the resort was terrific the hotel staff helped in all ways they could, the great news of this hotel is that the new museum of Egypt is being build across the road, I mean really just across the street , it is huge, the pyramids are across the street also, no need to take a taxi, because they will charge you 40 dollars money that could stay in your pockets. the food here was okay but could use a more western variety I think, over all it was a good time.

We booked the hotel via Expedia several months in advance. Upon arrival, we were put into a bungalow room rather than one in the main hotel. The room was substandard with a old 24 inch tube TV, a safe that was non functional and not bolted in, and a bathroom with a loose toilet seat. There was mold on the walls and evidence of water leakage on the ceiling See Photos for details. The staff would not replace the towels nor give us a working safe. The room would not even be 1 star in the US.

If you are in Cairo for one night with objective to see Pyramids only, you may consider Movempick Pyramids due to its location. Othrwise, look for alternative.

Nice resort with a good view of the pyramids

We got there at 4 am with a taxi that I ordered through the hotel. The staff was very attentive at all times,maybe because there was hardly any other guests during the week. The weekend got busy and the staff was still very nice. Anything we needed they were always willing to get for us. The food was always excellent.

The Hotel is a pleasant hotel that is a little dated. The clients seem to be from the region with some foreigners from outside the region. Chinese tour groups in particular. When I was there they had a string of wedding receptions for 15 consecutive days.

The staff was pleasant and responded well when you engaged them. The bell hops (grey shirts) were very helpful and the guys that worked the food and drink service in the lobby and lobby bar were outstanding. I happened to meet the rooming cleaning crew and they also were friendly.

If you are looking for a 100% western tourist hotel, this is not your hotel. If you want to get more into the culture and be where the Egyptians and others from the region go, this is your place. In a couple years when the new massive museum opens just down the street, it will be the place to be and in demand.

The check-in process was simple as I had prepaid via Expedia. The room was one of the \"bungalow\" rooms near the smaller pool. The porter explained to me the features of the room and welcomed me to the hotel and Egypt.

I included the breakfast buffet when I reserved the rooms. Good value for the money. They also had a lunch and dinner buffet but did not try either. I ended up eating a regular meal from the bar service which was both economical and good. The guys that worked the bar / lobby were excellent and engaged in conversation if time permitted. I probably learned more from them than a travel guide on the area and culture.

I picked the hotel due to proximity of people I was visiting. You can see how this once was a 5 star hotel. The clients seem to be more of a regional client base. They have a fair number of Chinese clients as part of tour groups. With the decline of the tourist industry from internal and external forces, it has impacted their bottom line. When the new 120 acre Grand Egyptian Museum opens that is almost directly across from the hotel, they will be a booming enterprise again.

I would like to give a hardy thank you to the three guys that work the lobby food and bar services. Friendly and engaging all the time. These lads are good ambassadors for the hotel. I also want to mention the grey shirted porters that were always helpful and good at finding you what you needed.

No one would answer my calls had to go to the reception. Took for ever to get whar I wanted and had to go twice and ask for it. Buffet was really bad food wise pool was nice service at the pool was nice so was the music.

Not Movenpick Standard at all!

Not likely to return to this premises ever again. The breakfast was great so were all of the staff. The coffee area by the pool was lovely too in the evening as were the staff there.
We had a few issues with on our stay. The rooms floor was dusty. They charged us extra for a dish ordered via room service, when complained they said that we had an old menu in our room and the price had gone up and that was the price we had to pay, perhaps better management of the hotel would have meant we had a new menu in our room to begin with. We also had a faulty fridge which we complained about on day 1 but it took 3 days to resolve, we just wanted cool bottled water. They did however rectify the issue and give us complimentary dinner and a fruit basket for a night for all guests, so I was happy with that, Ali the manager was very helpful.
The taxi services within the Movenpick were horrendous and did not take us to all the places they had promised us on the tour after paying them a significant amount, the driver didn't even know his way around. Do not book with them, they are not worthy of servicing Movenpick guests.

Hotel near the pyramids but not sanitary room

The bathroom was dirty with stains everywhere , the floor seems very old and out dated. There were marks all over the room wall , we didn't have the room service menu and when we requested for a menu it took an hour for them to bring us a menu. The staff were very kind and the hotel manager assured me that they would fix the condition of the room. Would I stay there again? Most likely not.

Ruff start but I made it work!

The first couple of days was not good as i had to call for towels and water on these days. The rooms (the bungalow) were very out dated. The tv was fuzzy so i never watched it. The room also had a very bad smell. I had to complain to the front desk. But after day 3 everything was wonderful!

Nice hotel.

Had to change rooms three times because there was no WiFi connection in any of them. Eventually I got to a nice room with proper working WiFi. But overall this is a very nice hotel, and a good place to relax and get away from the busy streets of Cairo. Big bonus - it's right next to the Giza Pyramids. Recommended.

SAFE AND QUIET HOTEL.

I enjoyed this hotel, it was quiet and peaceful and the room service was good. The bath and sheets were a bit grubby but aside from that the room was comfortable and felt homily. It was like living in a comfortable bungalow and there was a nice garden outside. The swimming pool was clean and quiet and I enjoyed swimming in the ice-cold water. I felt safe in the hotel, I think it takes security seriously. There is airport style security at the hotel and they have a cute guard-dog working there as well. I slept well at nights, the bed was comfortable although there is a distant sound of fireworks across the desert. I found my own local taxi-driver called Nasser, he was funny and took me to see the sights. I enjoyed the hotel breakfast it was good and the service was efficient. As for the security situation, it is very quiet over there and there are lots of guns around but there is also a friendly atmosphere. The Egyptians have a sense of humour. My taxi-drivers last words to me were, 'Don't worry, be happy and walk like an Egyptian'.

The hotel staff originally could not find our reservation but they accommodated us anyways while they worked out the issue, which was wonderful since we were checking in at 3 AM. Staff was pleasant and friendly. The rooms were in OK condition (not 5 star by US or Europe standards). Bathrooms had chipped tile and dirty grout, other than that the room was clean. Restaurants were very nice. They still have smoking rooms so everything ends up smelling unfortunately. We could smell smoke from our non-smoking room.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff.

Very nice hotel in Egypt, right next to the pyramids. Beautifully built with gardens inside and two swimming pools. Most of the staff were very friendly and this made the stay extra pleasant. The food wasn't that great at the hotel, and the room service was limited. The hotel has a gym, but it is old and needs an upgrade. But all in all it's a nice hotel, but perhaps not up to the moevenpick standard.

Hotel very close to pyramids with availability of nice views but not walking distance for shopping or sighseeing. Expected a salon or spa on premises as in other Moevenpicks but none available at this location. Hotel staff was very serviceable and friendly, premises clean and well kept, restaurants had great quality food! Good location if you don't care about walking; taxis readily available outside the front entrance. Would stay again for the price.

Nice location hotel

I spent 2 nights at ghis hotel.the room was dirty ,the tv was very dated, the recipients give me a room at the complete end of the hotel and i refused to stay over there, he said the hotel was full , i changed my room .however after staying 2 night i found the hitel was completely empty maybe 30% occupant.
The main star at this hotel was the location and its pool .
Overall i give this 2.5 stars out of 5

Good but not that clean.

We stayed there for one night because we wanted to be near to the Parymids. The entrance of the hotel and the reception are looking great but unfortunately the room itself was old and not that clean. Anyhow the employees there are so professional and will be happy to go additional miles with you.

Great place to stay if you are on your own.

I had a lovely stay at the hotel, the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. During my stay it was my birthday and all day I had staff popping by to say happy birthday which was very sweet. I received a note with flowers attached my the service staff, and later in the day a cake was delivered with a happy birthday message from the manager.

I stayed in a bungalow which was a little dated but clean and everything worked.

Great location with a view of the Great Pyramids

You're very close to the pyramids with views from some rooms and areas of the resort. There are several restaurant choices and any of the food can be delivered to your room, including the desserts. The hotel staff is very friendly. There is smoking allowed in rooms so if this is something that bothers you, check ahead. At times it can be smelt from adjacent rooms.
