We had a lovely stay. The staff at this hotel are really friendly, professional and caring. It was busy due to the lunar New Year holiday, and yet everything worked well and nothing was too much trouble. We will stay there next time we are in Shanghai. We recently stayed at the InterContinental Shanghai Hongqiao NECC and had a mixed experience.
The Positives:
The hotel lobby is impressive—spacious, modern, and welcoming. The standout feature for our family was the pool, which was clean and well-maintained. The buffet breakfast was another highlight: vast in variety, fresh, and truly exceptional in both quality and quantity. It's one of the best we've experienced in terms of sheer range.
The Negatives:
Unfortunately, the rooms didn’t meet the same standard. There was a strong, stale smell of cigarette smoke in the room that lingered throughout our stay, which made it quite unpleasant. The cleanliness was underwhelming, with visible hair and mold in the bathroom, which shouldn’t be the case at a hotel of this caliber. The double beds were surprisingly small—definitely something to consider if you're traveling with family or expect more spacious accommodations.
Other Considerations:
The location is a significant drawback if you're planning to explore central Shanghai. It took us over 40 minutes to reach the city, and the area around the hotel feels quite remote unless you're attending an event at the NECC. During our stay, we noticed that there were no other Western guests, which wasn’t a problem but did feel a bit isolating at times depending on your expectations for international clientele and service standards.
Overall:
This hotel may suit business travellers attending events at the nearby Exhibition and Convention Center.

We stayed at this hotel to attend a conference as it was connected to the NECC exhibition, it was a great stsy, the room big , breakfast was excellent, many options, staff all nice&helpful, the only downside was that the hotel is far from main attraction in the city , taxis were cheap though .

Amazing staffs. Came as a business trip with young kids. Very accommodating and staffs went above and beyond to help us during check-in process. Morning breakfast is also delicious with freshly made fried dumpling and a good variety. Concierge desk offers great advice for nearby sightseeing designations.

Check in process too slow. Staff repeating questions many many times like an interrogation as if to try to trip you up. Not trained enough in English conversation for an international hotel.
The place is difficult to find. Taxi drivers go round the hotel three time to find the entrance gate. Happened with 2 different taxis

Hotel was relatively new. Easy access to the metro but do require some walk. There were few things to do nearby besides the exhibition center. Room was quite spacious with a good bathtub. Plenty of bottled water provided. It even had a Bose speaker. Swimming pool was decent and never too crowded. Breakfast selection was outstanding and miles ahead of anything offered in Europe or the Americas. IHG members were given drink coupons that you could redeem for wine and such, which was good.

Good but could be slightly better!

Great hotel but a couple of annoying things. I chose the hotel primarily because of its location to Hongqiao station only to find out ‘post Covid’ they have stopped the shuttle bus to both airport and train station- slightly annoying. Bru Bar whilst decent could with a better food selection along with some better draught beer options. A/C in the room didn’t work- it was only blowing warm air- really not comfortable. An engineer came but all to no avail. Overall- not sure if I would choose it again (for my own purposes) but still a good hotel and great choice for any Fairs. Special mention to Kathleen (Manager of Club Lounge) - such a nice, polite and helpful person.

Since this hotel is located in a convention center, it’s hard to find the exact location from GPS and get to it. For the same reason, guests can only eat inside the hotel, but there’re limited choices and poor services. The personal service the restaurant on the first floor lacked of basic training. They treat guests as thefts if you have a piece of cake in your hand when you walking out the restaurant.

If you are going to the NECC do not look elsewhere. You can access the NECC through the hotel’s second floor and enter right between 5.1/5.2 and 6.1/6.2 and avoid all the hassles for taxis and traffic. Suuuper convinient!

- This hotel is great. The check-in and check-out processes were incredibly smooth, taking no more than 4 minutes.
- The room was very spacious and clean.
- Breakfast was nice. While there weren't many Western options, it was still better than any other hotel I've stayed at in Shanghai.
- The staff were very helpful and fluent in English.

Dislikes:

- Typically in Shanghai, hotels have robots that deliver food to your room. However, at this hotel, you have to go down and outside every time you order something. It would be amazing if they introduced robots or room deliveries.
- There were no facilities. The spa was closed during my entire stay, and there were no pools or entertainment spaces.

Absolutely perfect. If you are attending something at the exhibition centre, this is the closest accomodation and is worth every cent of attending during Winter as you don’t have to go outside at all 🙏

Chinese restaurant onsite has amazing food. Buffet breakfast is great each morning and the rooms are also awesome.

You can’t go wrong with this choice.

Our second time staying here and it won’t be our last.

I had an amazing experience at the InterContinental Shanghai NECC. From the time I arrived for check in with Cooper to the time I left, the staff was extremely pleasant and professional. The only problem I had was trying to use render services from the spa facility. The spa svc clerk was very bashful and apprehensive in speaking English and it limited me from using the facility. Although that occur, I would still stay at the hotel. Even the breakfast was scrumptious. There was a large variety of dishes to eat.

Clean and Comfy

I chose the Intercontinental because of it's proximity to the Railway Station. I arrived late from a flight and had to leave early the next day, so I was unable to enjoy the hotels amenities. The hotel is very clean and my stay was very comfortable. The NECC is a huge facility, and from the metro finding the hotel is not clearly marked. If you take the metro, go out exit 6 and walk counterclockwise around the NECC and you will find it within 5-10 minutes.

The biggest attraction of the hotel was to be its location inside the New Exhibition Center and close to Hongqiao Airport / Railway Station.

However, in my case, neither of this turns out to be an advantage, but disadvantage rather. My flight lands / departs from Pudong Airport (1 hour from the hotel). And my booth was from Gate# 7 of the Exhibition Center and Gate#7 was a good 15 minutes walk from the hotel, which \"real feel\" is a 45 min walk, as walking 15mins in open air, with Leather formal Shoes and formal suite / tie & dragging yr sample case = 45mins. And due to the short driving distance, No Taxi gets interested to drop you there.
And Hotel was NOT courteous enough to have their guests use their Cable Golf Carts that they have right there, transporting their employees i guess. And to add, my room was the last / corner one on the fifth floor, which was again literally atleast 2 minutes walk from elevators.

Beside that so called Convenience, nothing else. Nothing happening in the Hotel. Everything gets closed in the surrounding after 8pm. The nearest Convenient store is 20 mins walk.

Next time, i would prefer to stay in the City, say somewhere on the Yan'an Street near Hilton, Equatorial, PuLi, Longemont Hotel and will commute to the Exhibition center by Taxi. Atleast i will be able to get out at Gate# 7 directly and get a Cab from their itself. And i could have the activities in the evening too.

No offense, but it didn't worked out at all in my case.

NO BETTER HOTEL FOR TRADE FAIR IN NECC

Perfect for attending Trade fair at Hongqiao, Shanghai NECC since it is connected to the Trade fair hall at the second floor. Everything perfect except service suffered a bit due to language issues but not because of lack of trying. And Hotel offers complimentary shuttle to Hongqiao airport as well as Hongqiao Train station. Metro line 2 is just 5 minutes away.

However, the accommodations were nice, the room was plenty large, there was not excessive noise from outside the room disturbing my sleep or privacy, and the location was good for business, but probably not great for sightseeing or shopping. Good hotel for business travelers

I stayed in this hotel on two occasions each time one day. The hotel is located in conference center, so when there is not conference - it's empty. There is good and bad side of it. The good side is that you will be one of the few visitors of the hotel, and all stuff paying great attention to you. You can also get very good room for relatively low price and various upgrades are available. The bad side, that there is nothing to do. The area around is empty, just construction and bus station. So, if you want to go out for food or site seeing, you have to take subway or taxi. But if you are not planning to do anything like shopping or siteseeing it is great place to stay!

Good for business travels

Breakfast is good a wide selection of food and drinks. Room cleaning is surprisingly good the lady even helped me set up a nice display of many tiny bottles of various stuffs in the bathroom that i feel being taken good care of.
Location is nearby high speed train station, HQ airport and National convention centre which is super for business however quite remote and no shops around.
