Location was great for exploring Gora. Approx halfway between gora station and open air museum. 5min walk. Breakfast was pretty good, mostly eastern - only a few western options. Dinner was really great for included meal. Mostly eastern options. Recommend using cable car to get up hill and then walk down the hill again. Only issues were the room was warm and couldnt lower air con below 22 and beds were very hard.

Nice hotel close to Gora Station. We got a room in the condo wing and it was very spacious with a great view. Easy walk to a couple of main sites in the area, such as the Open Air Museum. Staff was also nice. Breakfast buffet was really good, too. Only complaint was the breakfast buffet room was cramped, so navigating through the food tables/areas with your tray and all the people was not fun.

At the end of a two-week trip to Japan, Hakone Yutowa was a true highlight. We booked one of the condominium suites, which was large even by American hotel standards. The room had its own mineral hot spring bath that faced east and captured a gorgeous sunrise, as well as a spacious sitting room and comfortable beds. The hotel staff were gracious and accommodating, allowing us to leave our bags with them for a few hours after we had checked out. The meals were good, served buffet style; we ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Yukata are provided for guests to wear at meals and around the hotel grounds. The public bath was also fantastic. In the men’s bath, there were two pools, one slightly cooler than the other, as well as a sauna. Although we were not traveling with children, it’s clear that they welcome families here. There are little nooks scattered throughout the property where you will find comic books, toys, places to read and relax, and complimentary snacks and beverages. All in all, it was a really relaxing place to stay. We used the Hakone Free Pass to see the sights, and we definitely recommend the Open-Air Museum, which is one of a kind and features an incredible collection of sculptures by artists from all over the world.

Very convenient location, about 5min walk from Gora Station and there is a bus stop just right outside the entrance (where we took a straight bus to Gotemba Premium Outlets). Hotel lounge was cozy, with lots of seating options, food and drink areas, and even books/manga available for reading. Our room (Twin Room 30m2) was huge and the bed was really comfy. As for the toilet, we didn't even use it as we just showered at the public bath! The outdoor area which had a campfire and a foot bath was also lovely. We also got halfboard which was buffet-style but while the food options were quite exciting the quality was just decent and we weren't too impressed by it. However, for S$313 a night, would have expected more. Free flow alcohol is quite a draw though.

There are a number of lounging areas in the hotel which I liked. Refreshments and snacks were free on the 2nd floor. We also utilised the private onsen which is just outside our room. Will be staying here again if we go back to Hakone.

Our stay at Hakone Yutowa was great. The room (Condominium A) was very spacious and had a good amount of natural light. The amenities we plenty, both in the rooms and within the hotel as well. There was lots of space to relax and enjoy the atmosphere around the property too.
The complimentary snacks and drinks in the afternoons were well received, and breakfast had a fair variety of options. I would absolutely love to come and stay again.

The onsen wasn't too crowded. The location was perfect. I recommend getting dinner at the hotel it was exceptional. The entire staff was was next level service. I would stay here again if I could.

The room looked very different from the photos, which were clearly taken several years ago. The tatami flooring was covered in questionable stains. The small non-tatami area (meant for removing shoes and storing luggage) was literally tiny, which probably explains why the tatami is so dirty—guests most likely end up stepping on it with their shoes and rolling their suitcases on it. The in-room amenities felt more in line with a one- or two-star hotel: very basic furniture, a bean-filled pillow, an extremely simple and tiny bathroom, a door that opens the wrong way, and an overall unpleasant smell. On top of that, we found a hair on the bed.

The common areas were completely unmaintained. The carpets were very, very stained, and the place was very dusty—in short, the hotel was dirty.

The only saving grace was the staff, who were warm and welcoming. The breakfast was also very varied, with options for all tastes, which was a definite plus.

We had the condo room and needed to walk outside to the main building. It was raining the day we checked in. We didn’t enjoy the free drink at night as we didn’t want to go back to the main building as raining badly. Room size is good.

Lovely Hakone Region

We are staying in one of the condominiums. Room is well appointed and spacious. We love the hot bath, and also the hot spring baths in the grounds. It’s great you can grab a beer or soft drink in the evening complimentary , and it also gives you time to chat to fellow travellers. The area is more rural, but very relaxing and peaceful for our 2 night stay. Our only negative comments would be the late check in 3pm, check out is early by 10am, and last entry into breakfast is 8.30 am.

Nice big room and bath water prepared for our stay. Hotel was nice. With lots of snacks, drinks, ice cream and unlimited drinks at certain time. However, AC was too warm for the August summer heat and cannot be adjusted. Only 1 key was provided for a family of four and the condominium required the key to enter the building, resulting in having to move as 1 team instead of splitting up to explore the hotel. It’s a long walk to get to the main building for the library and dinning room. There was a wide selection of manga tha my kids enjoyed.

The room was spacious (family of 4 with 2 teenagers) and clean. The beds were big but a tiny bit hard. The breakfast buffet was excellent with extensive choices both Japanese and enough western food options for our picky family :). I enjoyed the Onsen a few times and the location was perfect, just a 3 minute walk from Gora Station with direct access to the Hokane-Tozan railway and Cable Car (to ropeway). I would recommend this to all my friends visiting this area in the future.

Overall it was a great stay. The property was close to transport and sightseeing options. My daughter liked the drink buffet and the Ibsen experience. The breakfast was lacking for a non Japanese customer. The outside appeared a bit run down. There was no cold water in the shower so we had to use the private onsen down the hallway. Staff said they would look into it however the issue was not fixed.

I loved this hotel, wish I could stay longer. Lovely common areas to relax both indoors and outdoors, free drinks and snacks, alcoholic at night, as well as a lovely array of desserts in the evening. Everyone walking around in their yukatas provided by the hotel gives a very relaxing vibe. I enjoyed both the communal (had it to myself) and private onsens. It was nice that the private pnsen had a window to see nature outside. The outdoor terrace with footbath was also lovely, with comfortable seating. My room was simple, quiet, and clean (futons) in West building. Great location 5 minutes walk from Gora station.

The condominium rooms are very nice. The personal hot spring tub in the room was great. The room was quite large by Japan standards. The overall condition of the property was excellent, with lots of fun communal spaces like public and private onsens, a library, and a kids area. The free beer and sodas at various times of the day were a nice touch. The dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent. It is a few minute walk from 2 train stations and the open air museum. Convenient espresso machine in the building hallway and the hotel had a social gathering every evening in the hotel lounge/library with free snacks. The staff in this hotel were all excellent - very helpful and seemed genuinely to want their guests to enjoy their stay. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The food at breakfast and dinner was plentiful and varied. Outside of meal times there is a lounge offering cakes and tea and alcohol etc on a complementary basis and the lounge itself was a very pleasing space. The location is a few minutes walk to Gora station (where you can buy the Hakone Free. Pass) and about an 8 minute walk to the Hakone open air museum - so very convenient location. We had a lot of expectations from this hotel, and really wanted to like it as it was one of the more ‘luxury” hotels we splashed out on for our honeymoon. Whilst it was still a lovely stay, I don’t think it quite lived up to our expectations (but maybe they were too high!)

We had a room with a private onsen, but the bathroom and room in general didn’t feel as clean as anywhere else we had stayed in Japan.

The overall hotel did have a lot of facilities on offer, and I think would have been good with children, but to us it felt a little more like a European all inclusive a little past its heyday, and was too large to give the feeling of luxury. The onsens were some of the least inspiring looking that we had stayed at, and the breakfast / dinner options were good, but good for mass catering rather than standalone good meals. We did enjoy being able to wear the robes around the resort though, which was relaxing and quite a fun experience.

This wouldn’t have swayed our opinion of the hotel, but we had let all the places we stayed know it was our honeymoon in advance of our trip, and most had left a small token in our rooms (nothing big - just a cute message with a folded towel animal, or a congratulations at reception, etc). This was the only hotel we stayed at which didn’t mention it at all which contributed to the feeling of the impersonal resort-esk vibe.

We were at the property for one night only. First the checkin, it was ok. No complaints. Next the room and facilities were functional and much better than my expectations. Amenities like nightwear, Yukata, dental kit, soaps etc was provided. In the library which is more like a lounge they provided free tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer etc free of charge. It was a nice place to sit and interact with others. They have 2 private onsens and 2 public onsens. Private onsens could be used by mixed gender people as a private group however for public onsens, girls and boys both have to separately. Breakfast was amazing and worth the price. I did not have dinner so cant comment on that. You are just 5 minutes walk from the main Gora Station. Overall I highly recommend this place for location, facilities, amenities and breakfast.

We had a lovely two night stay here at Yutowa. It was a real treat for us as it is quite a special hotel. The shared living library area is beautiful with leafy outlook, the lovely deck with foot spa and fire pit was so relaxing in the evening. The rooms were lovely. It was all the little touches that made it so special. The Yukatas in room to wear, little slippers, free nibbles in the afternoon etc we used the massage chairs which were good and had a private onsen. This made our visit to Hakone feel so relaxing. We did the loop & outdoor museum but allowed plenty of time to enjoy the hotel too. Great location for the Cable car & museum. Thanks Hotel Yutowa for a lovely stay.

A few minutes walk from the Gora train station, the hotel has spacious room with big window of Mountain View. The breakfast was fantastic with so many traditional Japanese or Western style choices. We bought the dinner buffet in the hotel, which was excellent in a relaxing environment. The free coffee, snacks in the afternoon and free beer in the evening at the library is a really nice touch.

But a rude front desk stuff (an India lady) ruined the five-star rating we would have given and a perfect experience we would’ve had in the hotel. We arrived the hotel at noon with a Japanese friend who lives in a town not far away from Hakone. We wanted to run around Lake Ashino so we changed to running cloth, stored our luggages and backpacks, including my friend’s backpack. When we returned to check in, the Indian receptionist keeps on asking about my Japanese friend, even though I ensured her that my friend just needs to pick up her backpack (all our luggages and backpacks were already placed in our room, a nice service) from our room and leave. The Indian receptionist’s attitude is a steep contrast — arrogant, suspicious — from all the other stuff we have encountered in the hotel, who are all welcoming and polite.

I stay for 1 night and enjoy all the free activities.
For the ones like me that got tattoos there are private onsen baths that you can use and are really worth it.

I can't wait to come back to Hakone Yutowa. The entire property is beautiful with 2 private onsens and a social space/library on the lobby floor with free snacks and drinks. The garden outside was so serene and really adds to the Hakone experience. It was also within walking distance to the Open Air Museum which is super convenient.

Great place to stay near Gora station, high in the mountains of Hakone. However It is very inconvenient to have to carry suitcases up and down stairs, because the elevator doesn’t go to each floor. Be aware of this if you are not able-bodied.
Travelled should be aware that there is nowhere to eat dinner or breakfast except from in the hotel itself, and it’s quite expensive.
Reception staff are wonderful & helpful.

Staff is friendly and helpful! They let us leave our car and luggage before check in time. When we return to check in, the luggage is already in our room. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will definitely go back.

Hakone is beautiful and so is this hotel. We loved the location as it was a 5 min walk from the train station, 7 min walk from the convenience store, and surrounded by gorgeous scenery. The staff was pleasant and no issues checking in, but there was one night when a group of older folks from the UK decided to turn the quiet seating area into a loud bar, drinking and being obnoxiously loud, and the staff were too shy to say anything. The rest of the guests were clearly irritated and displeased and most hot up and left. Other than this, the food was decent (we had the buffet breakfast and dinner included in our stay), the rooms were simple, but clean and spacious with a lovely mountain view, and the outdoor foot bath and private onsen were just great! I would return. Check out the pizza spot which is in walking distance, it was awesome.
