We stayed Sora tradition western style, room is spacious, clean, and provides good amenities - like best face soap & moisturizer face creams, top of line hair dryer, Yukata, indoor & out door slippers, toothbrush with paste. I don’t have to pack anything. They provide for you. Only thing missing was body lotion. The indoor hot springs (in room) temperature was perfect, but outside terrace one was extremely hot, so hard to enjoyable. The Japanese style meals, the dinner and breakfast we select was 8/10. All great, but the soup wasn’t my favorite, however others might like it. In my opinion, the coffee wasn’t that great, but good selection of teas. I can’t complain the staff’s service. Top notch, they will make your stay comfortable, everyone so politely kind. So, my staying at here was best experience. Another plus things was next to Hell of Beppu and has great city view.

Incredible place with top value. Choose the room with private outdoor hot spring. The meals are so delectable. The service is unmatched — it was raining as we drove up and a staff member rushed out to give us each an opened umbrella. The room and amenities are amazing.

소라칸(6층)에서 바라보는 벳부의 전경이 인상깊게 남았다.
생각했던거보다 넓은 방에 여닫이 문으로 나눠져있는 다다미방도 좋았다. 실내와 실외에 있는 욕탕은 사용하기에 편했지만, 한가지 아쉬운것은 온천수가 미리 받아져 있다는거…사용할때 직접 받아서 하는 시스템이면 더 좋았을거라 생각한다.
그리고 실외는 많은 나무들로 모기가 좀 많았지만 부슬부슬 내리는 비를 맞으면서 따뜻한 온천물에 앉아서 자연과 어우러지는 기분은 넘 좋았다.
우리는 이틀을 묵어서 각기 다른 조식과 석식을 예약했었고 아주 대 만족, 코스마다 제공되는 양이 적어서 좀 걱정했는데, 풀코스를 다 먹은후 배부른 포만감에 정성이 담긴 직원들의 서비스가 좋았다.
풀코스 마사지도 좋았고, 전체적인 호텔 분위기나 제공되는 서비스로 그리고 주변에 있는 유명 온천을 도보로 구경하기에 호텔 위치도 좋았고, 편하게 쉬고 즐긴 온천 여행이였다.

We stayed in the Sakura room, it was absolutely amazing! We arrived before check in and the staff kindly took our bags and held them for a few hours while we explored the surrounding area (it is right next to the hells of Beppu). The room was very clean and spacious with a private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as a beautiful garden with its own cherry blossom tree. The hotel provides you with everything you need for a relaxing onsen experience! Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely ryokan. Excellent fixed-course meals (both Japanese and western). As with most traditional Japanese inns, there is little flexibility when it comes to their set ways (such as asking for a cup of coffee with breakfast, when you are only offered tea…can not do). The area surrounding the inn is also quite industrial and unattractive. But it is within easy walking distance of Beppu’s main attraction—the Hells of Beppu hot springs.

The food is ok, but overpriced. The Onsen is far from the room, the way to the Onsen could be cold in the winter. Staff and service are just ok, not to a level that can match the price they charged. There are still constructions ongoing, you can smell fresh paint in some area.

Service was terrible, patchy and staff was not attentive. Food was subpar for the price paid and way below expectation.

In fact, of all our travels throughout Japan - this , unfortunately, has to be the only place where food and service has fallen off the cliff!

The only saving grace was that location was superb.

The onsen was absolutely great, with beautiful view of Beppu. The room was very spacious and quiet. The hotel staff is overall friendly. Teppan dinner was great (though the Wagyu steak was a bit too greasy for me), and breakfast was also nice.

Best hotel with hot spring in your room and public baths too. The views are amazing. The food is gourmet. They made accommodations for special diets. The rooms in sorakan had a traditional feel but all modern and updated. They had a shuttle option from the main train station to the hotel which was super convenient. They are located directly in the middle of the popular sightseeing area for the jigokumeguri. So it was all walkable!

Me and my family had a wonderful stay at this luxurious hotel.

The room even exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean and well-maintained and hotel staff was extremely welcoming, kind and polite and we felt like honored guests the whole time.

We could even see the Kamado Jigoku from our bedroom window and from our garden, we also had a great view of the city and was greeted with an extremely beautiful sunrise each morning!

The cuisine dinners we had at the restaurants were also fantastic and one of the best we had in Japan!

We cannot praise this hotel enough and highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking to visit Beppu and its neighboring towns and cities.

Kannawaen was the perfect way to end a busy two week Janapn vacation in a quiet and relaxing way. We truly enjoyed our room’s private Onsen, and the two meals we had on the property were both excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were kind and accommodating. The gift shops had beautiful local goods to commemorate our trip. Walking distance to five of the Seven Hells. We loved our experience at Kannawaen and recommend it wholeheartedly to travelers who want a quiet place to relax and unwind.

We stayed at the Japanese style house and it was amazing! It was huge and perfect for a family. It also has private indoor and outdoor onsen included in the accommodation just for us. The meals included were great as well, we had teppanyaki for dinner and Japanese breakfast. The accommodation is also close to the Hell's onsen attraction which is just minutes walk away so it's perfect for my parents. The only thing was the outdoor onsen was slightly too hot for us as you cannot adjust the water temperature. Other than that everything was great!

Private outdoor onsen is great

We booked half-board accommodation for a room with a private outdoor onsen. That was a great decision. We can enjoy the onsen anytime we want. The place was clean and spacious with separate room for my daughter (which is tatami), ours have 2 large double beds. We loved the onsite mud bath particularly, only downside was it’s for women only so my husband didn’t get to enjoy. Dinner on both nights were delicious, waygu beef shabu shabu for one night and beef teppanyaki for the other. Highly recommended.

The large public bath was also nice, but we only used it once because we enjoyed the one in our room so much. The restaurants are also excellent for breakfast and dinner.

We were picked up by a large shuttle van and greeted by hotel staff outside the front entrance. Taken inside and given an orientation and given oolong tea to drink. Our bags were taken to our rooms while we were being educated by the night manager. Our dinner was an excellent teppanyaki dinner with yagyu steak. The private onsen bath and our room was totally excellent!! I would love to come back in the future!

This was our first ryokan experience and it was great. Staff was very friendly. Pickup & drop off at JR station was included. The view was great and the room we reserved has private indoor/outdoor onsens. Expect to do a bit of walking on the property, but it’s located next door to the “7 Jigoku of Beppu”, a great geological park.

The rooms are very dated, and smell bad to the point it’s hard to sleep. And to add to it there was an enormous spider that was climbing around the room. It was the size of my hand. Paying around $800/night one would expect more peace. The dinner and breakfast was good, but nothing too special. I had to book a different hotel to sleep at for the second night of our stay, at around $200 and it was much nicer inside. I don’t ever complain about rooms and have stayed at many ryokans across Japan but this was simply not comfortable. I know it’s an old place in a great location but I want to keep it real for anyone else looking to splurge on an expensive stay like this.

Excellent!!! Loved our stay. Our room was so big and spacious. It was a traditional Japanese room. It was located right on top on the pond. The private onsen was heaven. We reserved for teppanyaki dinner and it was so delicious. Breakfast was excellent as well. The staff are so nice. We received free taxi ride to and from the station. The taxi driver was so nice as well. He was like a personal tour guide for the whole ride. Thank you so much and would love to stay here again.

Hands down the best of the best! My stay was nothing short of perfect! The customer service, the room, the private Onsen, the cleanliness, the details... Every need was met. I thought this hotel would be out of the way, but surprisingly and luckily the bus stop was a stone throw away. I walked to a nearby restaurant as well which was great. Jumped on the bus to the African Safari and just enjoyed myself touring. I didn't want to leave when it was time and I can't wait to visit again.

The hotel is massive. I did not get to go to every place due to the fact that I have tattoos. I stayed in the room with its private onsen with was amazing and totally worth it. I got the steak dinner which was delicious. The hotel provided a yukata to wear around the hotel grounds which is always nice. However, if you do not speak Japanese it can be a little difficult to communicate but it was very hospitable. The location is also perfect to site see the 7 Hells of Beppu.

Amazing stay! Staff were multilingual and very welcoming and helpful as well. Right from the start we were treated superbly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. There is a turndown service where hotel staff converts the tatami room from a living room to a bedroom by setting up our futons for us. The room also has a private onsen that you can enjoy without having to share with others. That being said, the public onsen is not to be missed! However during my stay, it seems like the outdoor onsen was closed which was slightly disappointing. Also worth noting was that the staff really go out of the way in helping guests. After we checked out, we faced some problems with our rental car and the staff made the effort in helping us contact the rental car company and liase with the insurance provider as well. While we were held up, we were even invited to the bar lounge to rest and were even provided with free coffee which was a very nice gesture. PS the teppanyaki dinner is definitely worth a try!

If Heaven Were a Hotel...This Would Be It...

We had an absolutely fabulous stay. It was a highlight of our trip. You could see my mother's stresses melt away from the minute she walked through the doors - and after an in-room massage and soak in our private onsen she had the best sleep of her life. My friend said Kannawaen \"ruined her for any other hotel\" as she is convinced none will make her feel the way she did there. It was elegant yet comfortable. So relaxing as only the Japanese know how to create such peaceful surroundings. The service was excellent - five star all the way around. I would highly recommend Kannawaen. If heaven were a hotel, this would be it...

Splendor of a ryokan inside the city with great st

This ryokan was beautiful and made you feel like you were not in the middle of a city. It was very relaxing and serene with beautiful landscaping and lake that you could see while eating breakfast and/or dinner. Also, this hotel has a wonderful staff all throughout the property that helped you with anything you needed. Their attention to detail and learning guest preferences were impeccable. We had an exceptional stay at Kannawa-en which truly as the highlight of our trip! We were celebrating my Dad's 80th birthday during this trip to Japan and had a fantastic experience all around. The private hot spring bath was such a great experience, the hotel grounds are beautiful and the staff is extremely helpful. I highly recommend this hotel!

Everything was perfect. Staff was extremely nice and courteous in a genuine way. The room had a private hot spring tub and a tatami area. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast and dinner was fabulous. Location is walking distance from the natural hot spring tourist attraction and it is also walking distance to the bus stop to downtown Beppu. It would be more convenient to drive there if you have a lot of luggage because you have to walk up a uphill path if you take the bus.

best ryokan I've ever stayed!

I stayed at Kannawaen for family vacation. whole family including my grandparents, aunts, and cousins stayed at the hotel (we used 6 roooms) and every single one of them was satisfied with the stay.

the staffs are beyond professional; they always prepared and provided whatever we needed, such as reservation at local restaurants. (they even looked few places up for us, because there weren't many places in Beppu that can accept 17 people at once) they refunded the whole fees for breakfast, accounting each meal we couldn't eat due to our flight schedule and etc.

the facility itself was also amazing. all rooms are equipped with private bath, so we enjoyed the bath all the time. My husband and I stayed in the room with an outdoor private bath, and we loved it! the rooms with indoor bath is also nice, because those rooms are equipped with hinoki (wooden) bath which lets you relax. Also, rooms were very clean, new, and did not smell like cigarettes, which is very hard feature to find in Japan.

public bath's outdoor bath was also nice, I recommend bathing outdoor at night. the trees, moon, and stars make magnificent view.

definitely place to stay when you visit Beppu. I'd re-visit again. Thanks!!

Service was excellent here. We could not make it to the teppanyaki dinner at the last minute as our little one was having a tough time adjusting to the new environment. The hotel staff were very understanding of the situation and arranged for the food to be sent to our room for that night at no extra cost. They also provided an amenity bag, toddler chair and yukata for my child.

Friendly and very polite staff. Warm welcome from the moment we entered the driveway. Loved the in-room hot spring tub area, sectioned off by sliding doors, which allowed access to the living room, the shower area, and the balcony. Although it is rather expensive, it is well worth the money to have a very good rest, relax and recharge in this hotel.

201号室でした
レストランの横なので油の匂いが常に匂ってきます（ステーキ食べた後のお風呂は入れないです窓から匂いがきつくてもどしそうになりました）
窓開けれなかったです。
フードが見えていてどこが吐き出し口なのか気になりますね
ベランダ半分は隣のレストランの壁にかぶっていて風呂の窓からの景色は隣の建物の壁を見てましたね！
同階と同じ金額なんでしょうね！
初めっから分かっていたら予約はしなかったでしょうね！

ウェルカムドリンクも聞いてなかったです。
なので飲んでいません！

値段と部屋、内容がつり合っていないですね！

次回は絶対に無いですね‼️

기대한 것 만큼 너무 좋았어요. (버스정류장에서 올라가는길이 언덕이라 짐이 있으면 힘들긴한데 70대 부모님도 조금은 힘들어하셨지만 불만없이 잘 올라오셨어요)
숙소는 소라방했는데 방도 넓고 어메니티도 훌륭해요. 방안에 있는 스파는 사진보다 퀄리티면에서 아주아주 좋았어요!
저녁은 테판야끼로 변경하고, 조식은 3명에서 양식/일식 각각 먹었는데 식사도 너무 만족스러웠어요~ 한국말 하시는 남자 직원분이 계셔서 걱정을 많이했는데 너무 편안했고 식사 자리에서도 설명해주시고 음식맛은 어땠는지 여쭤봐 주셨어요. 다른 직원분들도 서비스가 너무 좋아서 대만족이에요!
숙소 크기에 비해 대욕장은 생각보다 작았어요~
다음에는 대가족으로 독채로 장기투숙하려구요!
부모님 모시고 간 첫 여행이었는데 좋은 기억 남겨주셔서 감사했습니다~

外国のスタッフの方が多かったんですが、皆さん丁寧な接客でした。清掃も行き届いてて、部屋風呂、景色最高でした。タオルが毎回新しいのを使えるのも良かったです。ただ、館内は広くて案内版を増やして欲しいと思いました。館内着の上着から鉄板焼きの匂いがしました。上着は洗濯なしの使い回しなのかなと思い残念でした。

離れ和洋室に宿泊しました。お部屋は新しく眺めも良い部屋でした。朝夕食共とても美味しくサービススタッフも素晴らしかったです。ただ残念なことにお部屋の庭に落ち葉が積もっているし、雪駄は新しいのか足に指が痛いし。チェックイン後の客室内の説明がなく露天風呂の温度が低く調整ができなかったのが残念でした。
