Room was amazing. The old architecture with modern amenities was great. The onsen was beautiful. The hotel itself and the area around the hotel, including the gardens were stunning and fun to explore. A perfect oasis, I wish we could have stayed longer. Some lovely shops and restaurants within walking distance. The free shuttle up the hill to the train station was appreciated, although the walk down to the hotel is worth doing. Stop at Naraya cafe as well!

Stayed here for one night on 1/27/26 and had a delightful stay. The Fujiya Hotel was expansive and had a lot of history and story. Our room was delightful as we stayed at the Forest Wing with a beautiful view. However, the beds were okay, just felt stiff and not as comfortable as expected. Since we chose the Forest Wing, the walk from the front desk to the room is a little bit far, but it’s okay. Their hotel is lovely to explore as they have a museum at the flower palace, a chapel, pool and then a garden right behind the main building. They offered complimentary amenities such as rest area that serves unlimited soft drinks and hot coffee. We did not use the onsen, however since the bathroom is supplied with hot water from the hot spring, I used my bathtub as a good way to relax in the water. All the staff was professional and kind and provided the utmost high quality guest service. Very friendly and are attentive to making sure their guests have a pleasant stay. The location was good to go see the open air museum. They provide complimentary van shuttle to take you from the hotel to the nearby train station. The difficulty I faced was since I didn’t had a Japanese phone number, I could not contact the hotel for a shuttle to come back when I arrived back at the train station. Instead, I used GO taxi app which was sufficient. Overall, if I were to come back to visit Hakone, I would stay more than 1 night here next time at the Fujiya Hotel and explore their other rooms.

Room was huge, spotless, and nice. Was a little perturbed by the number of giant hornets I saw, but that's the mountains in fall for you. Really historic and beautiful place.

Food options within the hotel were strange and annoyingly expensive - I get that it's a 5 star hotel but not everyone wants to shell out a ton of money to eat there and it's one of the furthest hotels from the main parts of town so it feels exploitative of a captive audience. Food was Ryokan style, which was fine, especially if you're looking for that kind of service. I've stayed in cheaper onsen Ryokans that had more convenience regarding food that didn't feel like I was getting baited.

What a magical hotel complex! The buildings and grounds are absolutely beautiful and impeccably maintained. The hospitality we experienced was like none other. The hotel was easily accessed via the Tozan train. It's a short walk to the hotel from Miyanoshita Station, but there is a hotel shuttle available if preferred. We stayed in the Forest Wing and the rooms were comfortable (firm mattress!) and clean. The breakfast was delicious with amazing presentation on China and silver dishes. So many things to explore - the outdoor gardens, the onsen, the pool, the gym, the museum, and the coffee/beverage room. I would come back to Japan/Hakone just for this stay! Arigato gozaimasu!

This legendary quiet luxurious hotel was everything I expected. The room was clean and beautiful in a simple traditional Japanese way. The amenities are excellent. I enjoyed the onsen and sauna. The Japanese gardens surrounding the hotel are beautiful and relaxing. Also, do not miss out on having lunch or dinner at the French restaurant. The food and the service were exquisite.

Hotel is classic. A historical beauty that has been through a wonderful renovation. I stayed there in the 1960s and they have preserved things very well. The only disappointment was the dining room for dinner. Food is very pricey, but not that good. Plus they rushed us out after one hour as they had a big tour group they needed to accommodate. Thought the maitre’d was rather rude in that process and unexpected from a hotel of this caliber.

The Fujiya reeks of history and elegance. The rooms are very spacious. The ambiance is sublime. We are so pleased we stayed at this hotel. The staff and quality of service was excellent. The sauna and spa facilities were 1st class. A couple of minor issues - the beds were a touch on the firm side. And the range of choice for breakfast was limited. However, in every other respect, the Fujiya will be a highlight of our time in Japan.

This was no due to weather but apparently the case being Sep despite 26 degree weather. This should have been communicated through website information or at time of booking as this is a highlight to going to an onsen area. Especially this quiet an area, one night was enough.

One of the iconic hotels in all of Japan. If you’re in Japan and want to explore the Hakone area, you have to stay here. The service is impeccable, the hotel has 140+ years of history, and the dining choices are superb. Well worth the stay. And did I mention the staff? A really amazing hotel that I really can’t fault. The service was amazing and felt very classic. The free amenities included such as coffee and drinks bar was a great touch. And the hotels rich history was really on display and made the place feel really special. The room we stayed in the forest wing was spacious and nice. The TV offered Netflix and other options which was good for me as an English speaker for entertainment. The hotel restaurants and bars are absolutely amazing and classic if you like fine dining. If not there are many cafes at a walkable distance. The location itself is great with many cool hikes and walks from the hotel, including a short 1km walk to the Hakone open air museum which was fun! Overall 10/10 so much fun, such a great vibe. Such classic and historic amenities. Can’t recommend more!

Memorable stay for anniversary

I had always dreamed of staying here when I was living in Japan many years ago and now that they completely renovated it in 2020 it is even more incredible after viewing the renovation movie in the hotel museum. 😍
To celebrate our Wedding Anniversary we stayed in the Flower Palace Heritage Room 352 Chrysanthemum.
I reserved it just because of the photos I saw - incredible architecture - ancient wood everywhere! The ceiling with all the wood beams and the hand-carved panels, lots of windows looking out on the property. Take my ¥¥¥¥ this once!
The whole place was like staying in a museum with relics and carvings all over in the lobby, in the rooms, walking in the hallways where such a wide selection of famous worldwide humans once walked was a humbling treat to be sure.
Dinner at Kikka-so was remarkable and the Hotels.com reservation allowed one free drink so I chose the rare Isojiman Junmai Daiginjo 50 Emerald!
Breakfast at the main dining room was a spectacle due to the architecture and many ceiling tiles that were all renovated - if you watch the museum movie - such dedication to history by the Japanese masters really made it a feast for the eyes - however I would say breakfast was not so remarkable for the mouth with tiny portions commensurate to a French petit plating. We presumed they catch you with the historic ambiance and don’t need to worry about the Western-style food? We did not go to Kikka-so for breakfast since we wanted to see the newly-renovated dining room.

Staying at the Fujiya was an incredible experience, from the very beginning to the very end. The hotel itself is stunning and exudes luxury and history. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. The dining is superb - 2 best meals I’ve ever had. One was Japanese Wagyu dinner in their amazing Japanese restaurant, the other was a continental breakfast (I really wanted to have a meal in the other dining room, but the meal itself turned out to be incredible too, with many delightful little surprises). I hope to come back one day and spend more time at the incredible Fujiya.

The thing that rises above the rest is the warm and professional nature of the staff that are eager to ensure that guests feel welcome and taken cared off. Also the grounds are stunning—beautiful gardens and a close hiking trail. I originally planned to say at a ryokan, but since I'm traveling during busy season they traditional ones were all sold out. I stumbled upon this property, and I'm so glad I did. I would recommend this property to everyone staying in Hakone. It's central, but more than that it's gorgeous. The garden itself is beautiful with cherry blossoms (during season) and koi fish. There's a hike to the Mt Fuji view which we didn't do this time. The staff member Park was absolutely helpful - she drew us maps to help us get to the Hakone Ropeway, and she drew us a map to get to our shinkansen early morning when we were checking out. There's an area where you can pour yourself speciality coffee drinks and juices out of a machine. Also the onsen experience was wonderful! We went both days during our stay. The hotel also gives you pajamas to wear and all the amenities you could need per day! 10/10 would recommend this place!!!

My wife, son and family love the Fujiya. I have stayed there many times over 30 years. My wife (Japanese national) and son (Japanese national) and I (British national) went to the Fujiya this weekend. My wife went to the check-in desk. The male desk clerk told her, \"we would like to copy your passports\". Why? Because I booked through English-language Expedia? This request was nonsense. We were very upset. I am an official resident of Japan for 35 years. I am an 永住者. The desk clerk gave no explanation. No apology. I am a university professor. My wife and son are Japanese medical doctors. We live only in Japan. The Fujiya clerk made me feel like an alien. This incident spoiled our stay.

The Fujiya is an impressive and beautiful historic hotel. We stayed with our 5 month old baby in the Forest wing. The room itself was spacious and the decor in keeping with the Classical design of the hotel. I particularly enjoyed the onsen and the western breakfast (best breakfast of our trip). It is a historic hotel so expect the look to be a little dated, however, that is what adds charm to it. Overall a comfortable hotel, bathroom not so great (review is for FORESTWING TWIN FOREST SIDE). This is a historical hotel in which one must take the time to enjoy . The public bath is 5 star and you must visit it and enjoy . The dining areas are exceptional with Japanese ambience. The rooms are modern yet disclose history of many visitors passing through . Feed the Koi fish on your walk through the gardens as food is provided for them near the reception area. It is an easy walk to train station to use the Hakone pass and see all the sights .

Amazing landscaping around the property, our forest view room really put you in the forest (in the best way possible).

A walk though the gardens is a must, the old operational water wheel near the top exudes peace and tranquility.

Dinner staff at the Kikko-So Japanese restaurant are friendly and provide a polished and precise experience.

The main lobby staff are unrelenting in providing above and beyind service, retrieving for me a 92 year old relic for me to view.

Gorgeous surroundings, it’s amazing. It’s a bit far from the town and very limited food areas around . Hotel Restaurants are a bit expensive. They have a free shuttle that takes you to the nearest station.

Great view from
My room and from the onsen. Staff was very friendly and very easy to communicate with in English. I will consider this hotel for future trips to Japan. Price is not cheap, but it is worth every dollar. Great experience.

A True and Lovely Japanese Classic Hotel

The hotel was amazing. Breakfast each morning was heavenly in the main dining room, The Fujiya. We thoroughly enjoyed the on-site onsen. Wonderful way to unwind and enjoy the view of the mountains from the onsen. We had afternoon coffee compliments of the hotel. Early Bird cocktails in Bar Victoria.

Our room was an end unit - so comfy, quiet, 3 large windows to appreciate the landscaping of the hotel. French pressed sheets and comforter. The en-suite bathroom complete with a soaking tub. All the amenities provided. In-room pajamas and yukata overjackets to keep us warm. Spacious room with high ceilings.

An added surprise was the Gallery Cozy - coffee, tea, soft drinks 24/7. We walked the grounds - please do this to fully take in all the outdoors and indoors What the Fujiya Hotel offers to her guests.
