Downside: The rooms were very tiny. The windows did not open so it left them somewhat claustrophobic. The main attraction of the hotel seemed to the communal baths which held no interest for me. The staff’s abilities to speak English was limited. At one point the front desk staff member used a translator on her phone to tell me they had made a mistake and forgot to charge me about $90. Upside: the rooms were clean and the location was a walkable distance to transportation stations.

The hotel was lovely but unfortunately even though I had entered the ages of my children (9, 12 and 15) in Expedia when I booked, the hotel had us registered as staying with 3 children 2 years and under. The beds were not big enough for more than 1 person but they did allow us to stay in the room and pay additional fees for older children. The amenities and food were excellent, but the our 9 year old and 12 year old had to share a single bed and we had to pay additional fees even though through Expedia we were eligible to book this room with the ages of our children specified correctly. My understanding was that they were double or queen beds and that the rooms we had paid for slept 8. I’m not sure where the discrepancy occurred (with Expedia or with the hotel) but it was not pleasant to have to pay an extra $100 CAD per night and still have insufficient sleeping arrangements.

Very hospitable stay in Kyoto

The Intergate was really beautiful, very comfortable, and a great stay in Kyoto. We arrive late in the afternoon, were hungry and tired and were thrilled to find a complimentary happy hour with a variety of treats and drinks. What a welcome! The facility had everything we needed and found our connecting rooms perfect for our family of 4.

Overall a nice hotel.
Daily refreshments and snacks depending on the time of day was a nice touch but the front desk staff did not tell us about this when we checked in, still managed to enjoy it so no harm done.
Facilities were ok with massage chairs, onsen and only two washing machines available, with such a busy hotel it was a fight for vacancy!

We like the breakfast options as well as their afternoon sembei, wine hour, and ochazuke hour. Having this space available for our group of eight travelers was a plus to let us chat. The staff are excellent at arranging for cabs and other needs. The facility has a public bath too. The laundry only has 2 washers so it can get backed up as the dryers needed 2x to dry. We did a search for coin laundry nearby and found a good one with large washer/dryer units that would complete it in 1 hour that was a couple of blocks away. One of our friends left a duty free package and they found it and shipped it to a relative so we could pick it up later.

I have stayed here multiple times now.

Clean, conveniently located hotel

Efficient electronic check-in with assistance from the friendly and courteous staff.
Room a bit small, however very clean and fresh, including linen and towels. Amenities such as toothbrush, skin creams, tea and hair brushes are available in the lobby when required.
Breakfast area and lounge are kept very clean and tidy by the staff. A good variety of Japanese and western items for breakfast. In the evening, the hotel provides snacks and wine. A pleasant amenity after a day of walking and touring.
The public heated bath helped to soothe a tired body. Alas, no sauna.
The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of the train station, and easily accessible by other public transportation. Walk to shopping, restaurants and many cultural sites.
This hotel is a convenient place to stay. Although it is busy with tour groups, it is not overly crowded, except at breakfast before 8.00/8.30. The staff advises which mornings are likely to be busy.
One suggestion: A few more hooks, racks and shelves for clothes, personal items and wet towels would be helpful.
Really lovely staff, courteous and helpful. Will stay here again.

This hotel was GREAT! We got connecting rooms for a family of 4, two twin beds in each bedroom and 2 bathrooms. They say soundproof rooms and they really were. We heard nothing! Beds were firm but still comfy. The staff was super helpful and ordered our taxis each morning. There was paid breakfast available but free coffee, plus free afternoon snacks and drinks. Lobby and additional seating area were spacious. Laundry was available but only two machines that both wash and dry so it takes about 2.5-3hrs and many guests were trying to do laundry at same time so don’t expect to do a bunch of loads all at once. The famous Nishiki Market only about 8 minute walk and train station about 15 minute taxi ride. I wish every hotel was this great!

This hotel was luxurious and spotless from the entrance, and the staff were all very friendly. Compared to other hotels, the room size was great for the price, and the overall stay was comfortable and excellent. The public bath was exceptionally clean, making it perfect for unwinding after a long day, and the massage chairs in front of the bath were a fantastic bonus. The simple evening meal provided was a delightful touch, making the return from a day of travel even more enjoyable. It was an incredibly satisfying stay!

It's a great small hotel with many little touches. It is surrounded by many restaurants in a 15-minute walking radius. Coffee machine with pods in the room. Lounge access for refreshments throughout the day. Wine and cocktails in the evening. Onsen Ok, would be nice if one could open the window. When we arrived there was a smell of freshly brewed coffee in the air. I just mentioned it to the check-in team about the wonderful aroma. Without asking another staff member prepared 2 takeaway coffees for us. Definitely exceeds expectations.

Loved this hotel. The location is somewhat off the beaten path, but it was quiet, safe, well-appointed and central. Bus and taxi transportation is really easy in Kyoto, so not being as close to a train station wasn't a big deal. We had a very nice stay and would stay again.

I loved the daily free snacks especially the Chazuke in the evening. It was such a great perk and so nice to have a place to quietly sit at the beginning, during or end of the day. We loved the authentic atmosphere, food and staff were extremely helpful.
Beds and especially pillows were so soft, luxurious feeling and very comfortable. Room very spacious too. Unfortunately did not try the onsen bath, massage chairs or gym. Next time as we definitely will stay again.

Excellent hotel, service and staff. Very well maintained property. The breakfast was great. Within easy walking distance from public transportation (both bus and train) and restaurants. Hotel window offers bright diffuse light but does not open; it is understandable given that the hotel is surrounded by other buildings at close proximity. Only complaint would be the ventilation in the bathroom, but we found this to be common for some hotels in Japan. The breakfast was delicious and staff were super friendly.

Wven though the hotel is in the middle of everything, it was very quiet. Loved the Onsen & massage chairs. The room was bigger than I expected, given that most hotel rooms in Japan are tiny. This one felt like the size of a hotel room in the USA.
My only minor complaint is I had asked them if my friend could check in before I got there and still put the room charge on my card that I used for the reservation. They said yes in the expedia messages, but when she got there, they made her use a machine to check in which required her credit card. When I got there a couple hours later, they could not change the charge to my card. Nor could they split the room charges. Like I said, a small issue, but I would have paid in advance if I had known they couldn't or wouldn't let her access the room before I got there.
Overall, it's a lovely hotel and would stay there again.

Sad 3 days in Kyoto

We were not very happy with this hotel. The atmosphere was not friendly, it felt dreary, so much so that it even depressed us.
When we arrived in the room and saw that we could not look out, it was a frosted window we could not even open, it really turned us off. I rather look at a wall, than not be able to see what is outside!

The bathroom was a prefab structure, luke a plane's stall but bigger. My husband dropped his phone while inside of it and it sounded so loudly, it was like someone was banging on a metal door full force, it startled me awake.

We are in Japan, land of the sliding doors, the bathroom door swang out, completely blocking the space in an already cramped room!

That was not all, when we arrived close to 10 for breakfast, 9:45, the staff told us over and over that they stop serving at 10, it felt like harassment. Were we not allow to serve our selves before ten and use the tables after 10? The food selection was not very good either.

In conclusion, no we do not recommend this hotel, nor will we be reutning to it. I rather stay at a cheap love hotel (at least there I know what to expect) than go back to it.

It was a very gray feeling, it could have been made better by friendliness and warmth from the staff.

Excellent condition hotel with lots of free amenities. Free coffee, tea, juice, wine throughout the day along with snacks. Public bath and free massage chairs are also relaxing. Location is superb, close to shopping and Nishiki Market is only about 8 minutes away, but area is also quiet and comfortable. The hotel also provides free drinks and snacks in the afternoon, as well as a late night snack. There is also a communal bath where we can relax after a busy day of sightseeing and shopping. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Kyoto.

The property was beautiful and nice to stay at. The size of the room was large especially compared to other hotels in the area. However, the fact that one has to pick up many toiletries in the the first floor common area is horrendous. It is the job of cleaning staff to restock your room, not my job as guest to restock basic toiletries in the receiving area. Also the fact that if you loose one of the plastic keys to the room you'll be charged 3200 Yen is ourtrageous.

The amenities were wonderful, especially the crib offering, the onsen, the little gardens, the coffee, water, and other free drink and snack offerings through the day and night.
I only have 2 concerns: 1) I could hear some of the other guests above and beside us at times, and 2) we dropped off our bags early and asked the staff to put our insulated bag of baby milk into their freezer. But when we opened it later after 8 hours of supposedly being frozen- it wasn’t frozen. The ice inside had continued to melt. Luckily the milk was still cold from the ice, but it was not frozen.

Very convenient location as it is centrally located in Kyoto. Great facilities and great breakfast options. We had only one issue with laundry situation. It was a front loader and does washing and drying both according to the instructions. But even with 30 minutes extra drying. Our clothes were still wet. We ended up hanging all our clothes inside our room as there was no other coin laundry place nearby. If we didn’t have to to the laundry it would have been 10/10!

This hotel is centrally located. It is clean and close to everything. The hotel has a Japanese Public Bath that is nice to relax in after a long day of sightseeing.

The rooms are nice and very clean. They are a little bit small, so if you need a bigger room make sure you reserve a bigger one.

There are many stores, restaurants, and convenience store within walking distance.

Most of the major tourist sites can be accessed from this hotel. However, you need to learn the various train lines in the area. it can be very confusing at first. Also, a lot of the temples/shrines on the east side still require a lot of hiking up the side of the mountain. If you are unable to walk, you should plan to take a public bus or taxi.
