I really enjoyed this hotel. It is simple and the staff very friendly. It is situated in one of the most sensory stimulating part of town but we felt quite safe here. The balcony and roof top gives you a good view of the chaos below. I would recommend this if you are looking for a simple and reasonably quiet place in the centre of the chaos of chandni Chowk.

The hotel itself is nice the rooms are clean and spacious. The food is very good and quick room service. The staff is helpful and courteous. The neighborhood in Chandi Chowk is a bit discomforting. While it's very close to Red Fort and Jama Masjid the hotel itself is hidden in an alley inaccessible to transportation and honestly not safe for families. As a solo male backpacker it was ideal and budget friendly.

Overpriced unclean hotel

Appalling hotel. I understand it was a decent place at one point but it's now extremely unclean with very poor service. Have to ask several times to get the room cleaned, and when it is it's hardly cleaned - just bed remade and the bathroom barely cleaned. The bathrooms are wet rooms, which are fine if cleaned, but these bathrooms are dirty. There is one very pissed-off boy who never sleeps and does all security and cleaning etc alone. He spends about two minutes cleaning the room, that's if he ever gets round to it. Not entirely his fault, the hotel should have more staff. You have to insist on every little thing several times, you can't assume that towels will be changed or bins emptied etc. Also the hotel has no duvets. Very stingy on all things, from pillows to loo roll. You basically have to beg for loo roll before every time you go to the toilet. You have to call to have the hot water turned on, takes half an hour to heat the water, and then when you turn the hot water tap on you have to fill 3 buckets with cold water before any hot water arrives. so something as simple as taking a shower takes planning and patience. All this would be fine if it was cheap but it's £35 a night; I stayed in Aiwan-e-Shahi for half that, with friendly staff, regular room cleaning, clean bathrooms, running hot water, a great restaurant with a great view and a better location in the same area. (btw this hotel has turned its dining room into a store room)

Tara Palace exceeded our expectations. The property was clean and the service was very prompt. We ordered food after we arrived late from our train journey and the food was good as well. Especially given that this is right in the middle of a gali in Chandni Chowk, this hotel was great.

Safe friendly hotel in good location

I have stayed here 5 times now, 4 times alone, and 1 time with my Family.
This hotel, is a gem, hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of old town. It is very quiet.
The location is really exiting. Old Delhi sights and slap bang in the heart of Old Delhi. Well located near important Delhi attractions: Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli spicemarket, and 5 min walk to the Red Fort.
God view from the rooftop. Excellent to go for the sunset.
The hotel offers free hotel pick up from the Airport, which was there on arrival every time.
It has a restaurant that serves very good food, If your booking includes breakfast, you get like 4-5 options from Indian to Western, and it is very good.. It also has room service from the restaurant 24 hours a day. The Staff, the whole way around from doorman to management, are very pleasant and helpful at all times and make you feel at home, most speak good English.
The room was big and very clean, clean bedding and bathroom, TV, telephone, A/C, all in perfect working order.
Compared with other hotels in Delhi at the same price, Hotel Tara Palace is a winner.

Good For Backpackers

This is not a luxury hotel. This is a clean, safe western-friendly accommodation in the overall messy and chaotic neighborhood of Chandni Chowk. The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the food served on the rooftop deck is outstanding, but you can expect hard beds and to hear your neighbors. The walls and floors are thin. That said, if you're looking to explore Old Delhi on a budget and are excited to be within the energy of the Chandni Chowk neighborhood than go for it.

Don't judge by first impressions

At first arrival (late at night, about 1130pm) we were taken aback. The hotel is down an alleyway behind what we later found out is part of the local bike market. Once inside the hotel it is very clean albeit small rooms. The hotel staff was very friendly & helpful. Overall a nice experience & if you're looking on budget this place was good for that. If you want 4 star US equivalent this is not it though. Oh yes... The food at the restaurant was very tasty! We are several meals there & all were delightful!

In the heart of Shahjahanabad -- Old Delhi!

I chose this hotel for its location! In the heart of the Old city of Delhi, a stone's throw away from Chandni Chowk. From here you can walk all over Old delhi, and then take tuk tuks to just about anywhere.
There are at least eight markets right next to the tara palace location, all of them fascinating, all of them full of life, full of all sorts of people and trades and stalls -- all full of the REAL India!
The restaurant blew me over! I didn't expect anything from the hotel food -- but the restaurant menu is very varied, for all tastes, and the food -- I tried many different dishes and they were all excellent! Well prepared and presented, tasty and copious! Five stars for the restaurant! Only small objection: the breakfast is excellent if you want ( as I did) Indian fare. But if you are one of those picky tourists who can't be without a \"continental\" or \"American\" (sic) breakfast -- well, it's not that good. Bring your own Chocolate coated Sugar bombs from wherever -- you won' (luckily) find any in Delhi!
I definitely recommend this hotel; great value for money, and really , the best is its location!

A Refugee in the Heart of the Bustle

Overall I deeply enjoyed my stay here and would certainly return when I'm again in the area. The only downside was the noise level coming from guests talking in the hallways. Otherwise clean, comfortable, and convenient for walking to the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. The winning element, however, was the rooftop. Killer views of Jama Masjid, the Red Fort and much else while enjoying a tea or a meal. Service was excellent - in fact the staff were all extremely helpful, quick and courteous.
Approaching the hotel can be a bit daunting. A rickshaw or bike cab from Chandni Chowk is the best way to reach the hotel. They drop you at the entrance to a narrow alley with a sign for the hotel above it. Keep walking down the alley until you reach green marble steps on your left. For those traveling with much luggage this may not be a great option. Otherwise a fantastic location for being able to stop by during the day for dropping off purchases or taking a tea break. I'll be back!

Worst in the world

Never come here. They managed to make me pay by cash. When my credit card was declined due to offline (according to him), he asked me to withdraw cash from ATM. But the truth is the network was not offline. I could pay by credit card at last in the room which is behind the reception. They asked me many question, for instance, when we check-out, when my train leaves and how much I have in the bank before he rejected my credit card. While we were talking, he said that \"I already talked with my boss\" and I asked \"What did he say?\" To be surprised, he began his answer with \"Maybe...\" before he started telling me his boss words. I concluded at that moment that he didn't have boss and all what he wanted was cash. At last I paid by credit card in the room which is behind the reception. If you were demanded payment by cash, you can tell my situation to let them again in that room. Complementary, RATS were running in the room because the neighbor is very dirty.

Service was great. Staff were friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. Room was very basic. Linens were like new and crisp and clean, however the mattress needs cleaning, as you can feel particles under the sheets. The mattress is very thin and not very supportive. The AC remote made noises but may not be working and I was unable to sit off the AC when the room became too cool. Also my allergies reacted very strongly after a short time in the room, so the filters may need cleaning. TV was rather small for the room size and television remote did not work. You will either love or hate the location. I thought it was great, being somewhat close to the metro and several tourist spots. A doorman was present and alert at all times. Breakfast was simple, but well presented.
Overall the service was great...but the price was too high for the facilities.

Please read this all the way through to get the entire story. The night we arrived at the Hotel Tara Palace (me and my 2 children), I was terrified when the driver stopped in what looked like a slum and said we were at our hotel. The only thought going through my head was, \"I have made a terrible mistake. How am I going to fix this?\". I thought for sure we would get mugged before getting to the end of the alley where the hotel was located. The next day (in the daylight) we found that the hotel staff was very friendly and reliable, the food was delicious, and the neighborhood was safe. They helped us with everything we needed, including great tours and travel around the region. We hated to leave, and will be back for sure!

Great budget hotel with all the services you need

Hotel Tara Palace received a lot of kudos from budget traveler's and they were not wrong. Located in the heart of Old Delhi down what is an alleyway (your taxi or tuk-tuk will leave you at the end of it; no worries, perfectly friendly alley), this is indeed a cheap hotel with nice rooms and great service. The food is very good and they will carry a table up to the roof if you want your meal overlooking the city. They will book taxis for you, set up a pickup to and from the airport, or book a car and driver for you (which I took advantage of for the next ten days; great driver in Anil Sharma - you won't be disappointed. If you are coming to India for the first time, you can't go wrong booking here.

Convenient for Old Delhi

Right in the middle of Old Delhi, don't let the old lane way discourage you. That is Old Delhi. Pleasant staff, good veg food and room service. A few problems with wifi when we arrived but was fixed once they put in new routers. I don't think this can be helped but there was constant noise from ongoing construction going on in the hotel. Would highly recommend.

This hotel is smack in the middle of Old Delhi.

If you want to experience Old Delhi, this is a great place to base yourself. It is not 5 star so don't expect it to be... But it is clean, roomy and great respite from the intensity and business of Old Delhi. The staff were excellent in helping us. The rooftop gave us a view into the ordinary lives around us and breakfast was a very decent affair to start the day. We enjoyed ourselves and Hotel Tara offered all that we needed to enjoy the essence of Old Delhi.

Tara Palace is located very near the Red Fort. The staff is very helpful in hotel matters, but also in arranging seeing things you want to see. My only complaint is that the wi-fi is hit or miss. Other than that, a great place!

Tara Palace - a gem in Old Delhi

I've stayed here several times and I'm happy to come again any time. It is an oasis in the craziness that is Old Delhi. Their restaurant turns out some fantastic dishes. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The location is close to several great tourist attractions and even the Chandni Chowk Metro station. I highly recommend this place!

This was a really convenient hotel. We arrived into Delhi by plane and the airport pick up service worked perfectly. The hotel is in a very locals area - we barely saw any other tourists but this meant we didn't get many touts and we enjoyed a walk to the Jama Masjid and the red Fort. We also walked to Old Delhi train station which is really close.
The staff at the hotel were really friendly and helpful. The hotel could do with some updating - it has definitely seen better days and the bed wasn't very comfortable but it was all very clean.
A convenient location for a night or two in Delhi.

Decent hotel in bad area with airport pickup

The free airport transfer is very nice and staff is friendly. The hotel is an old midsize property located in a really appalling warren of beggar filled alleys. The rooms are large and have the basics but they are rather poor for the price. Showers and closets and so forth are adequate. Breakfast is a choice of a couple of set menus. OK but nothing great and can be a long wait to be served. Wifi is quite bad for India, I had no signal n the room and only a weak one in the hall. Overall other choices in this price range could get you someplace decent in Connaught Place or a nice place near New Delhi station.

In the middle of the madness

This is a particularly difficult hotel to review. Firstly as with any hotel review expectations have to give consideration for the location, and the standards that we would regard as normal at home do not necessarily apply here. The hotel staff we found to be most helpful and eager to please. The restaurant was rather disappointing, however the food served in it we found rather good and very reasonably priced. The bedroom and bathroom was adequate for a short stay. The flat roof is a great place to sit and enjoy a beer while watching the chaos below. We wanted to stay in the centre of the chaos of Old Delhi. This certainly ticked that box. However it must be said that Ladies and those of a nervous disposition could find the approach to the front door of the hotel a little daunting, especially after dark. It is at the end of a very dingy alley, it is too narrow for Taxi, Tuk Tuk etc. so on foot is the only option.

Decent priced rooms and very central to Red Fort. A little difficult to find on your own as it's tucked away on a side street, so recommend that you get in touch with the hotel and arrange for airport/train station pick up. It'll cost you around 850 Rs, but definitely makes your commute a lot easier.

good clean hotel but in a bad slum. so dark out side that at 10 pm on main road a small truck ran over my foot and no body seems to bother.no doctors around. all services in hotel are expensive spacialy if u arrange a taxi through hotel or hire a car. day time receptionist was polite and helpfull but overall image was bad. only stay in this hotel if u been in india before and know where u going.

Great service, good value, fascinating area

I stayed at the Hotel Tara Palace during an academic research trip - a lone female traveller. I have visited India many times previously so the decision to stay in the 'authentic' and intensely busy Old Delhi area was an informed one. It offered instant access to packed bazaars and incredible (albeit dilapidated) architecture. The hotel is located in a small alley and has no grounds. If you value a view from your room or external space to chill out then this is not the hotel for you. Also, the hotel does not have a lounge, so does not work for meetings. Otherwise it offers excellent friendly service, incredible cleaners, delicious veggie food, spacious rooms, and good value for money. The in-room WiFi was flaky at times, though a more reliable connection was always available in the foyer. The shower is quite basic but does the job. For the price this is an excellent hotel. Don't expect boutique hotel facilities - you're not paying for them!

The Hotel Tara Palace is arguably the best location for anyone wanting an honest colourful taste of Old Delhi. Step out and walk to many tourist hotspots. We were picked up from the airport late evening and arrived at what seemed a scarry neighbourhood. I remember reading \" be brave \" sure enough we were escourted down a laneway to find a charming old building with attractive marbel flooring throughout and a lift to carry your luggage upstairs. We slept peacefully and in airconditioned comfort. While there are no hot bubble baths to be had, room service is good and the meals are good. If you want a view then climb the stairs to the roof top to see the Red Fort & Jama Masjid while you sip your morning chai tea. I will definately stay there again, there is too much to see.

A great location in Old Delhi, all the sites are walking distance away. The best part was the included airport pick up which is fabulous when you arrive to India for the first time. The included breakfast was also one of the best we had in all of India. A great place to stay.

Decent Hotel in Old Delhi

There is not many hotels in Old Delhi, this hotel is one of the few that is situated in Old Delhi, and is a 5 minute walk to the red fort. The only problem with this hotel i found was the fact that there was no wifi in the room, to use wifi you have to use it at the reception area. This hotel gives you a complimentary breakfast which is good and overall it's value for money.

It's a glorified hostel in the heart of Old Delhi, if you want to be close to the real Delhi this is the place. Yes it's in an alley but it's as safe as any other part of town and the proximity to the Red Fort and markets is perfect for exploring on foot. There's free Internet in the lobby, they try really hard with breakfast, the beds are clean and the water is hot. Nothing fancy just a good economic option.

Exactly what we were expecting

We booked one double and one triple room for two nights, and everything was ready when we arrived. The facilities were very basic, but that is what we were expecting. We wanted the location, and that was the best thing about the hotel - walking distance to the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Karim's Cafe and Chandni Chowk!

We picked Tara Palace because of the location which is great, within easy walking distance of the Mosque, the old city, and the Red Fort. (It is easy to get a tut-tut to other sightseeing areas but you need to negotiate). The hotel was clean and the room spotless. Shower worked well and water was hot and even though there was no shower curtain the water did not spritz everywhere. Staff very accommodating including arranging airport pickup. They gave us a 24 hr. phone number for emergencies. Breakfast was fine, not buffet but had several choices. We found the travel agent across the alley from the hotel was very helpful in planning our stay, making hotel bookings, arranging a driver for us, etc. We worked with Mubarak and he was pleasant, had good English, and was not pushy. The hotel put us in touch with him. The only negative I have is that the area around the hotel is not great, and the hotel itself is down a small alley so is hard to find at first. However, it is not an unsafe area, just an old city area. We found the room quiet and we feel the hotel is very good value for the money.

Will stay here again.

While located in the bustling and hectic Chandni Chowk, the stay at the Hotel Tara Palace provides a respite from the day's activities. There is easy access to the Red Fort and Jama Masjid and a few blocks away is a Metro station that connects you with the entire city. The staff and service were superb and extremely helpful with a first time visitor to India. And if you dine at their restaurant, try the vegetable biriyani.

Budget Hotel

As a budget hotel it did the job and was fairly central to all the sights,it was its position down an alleyway and overlooking a slum which let it down a bit,even though we knew about it beforehand.Staff were nice and friendly and airport collection worked well (would never have found the place without it),there is a good travel agent next door to arrange trips and onwards journeys.

Happy days in Old Delhi

Location is good if you can cope with Old Delhi. The hotel is about a 15minute walk to the nearest Metro station. Staff very helpful and the airport pick-up is worth the cost of the hotel room if you are arriving late at night. The Metro still doesn't run to the airport.

Friendly and accommodating

This hotel is a welcome respite from the heat and bustle of the streets.
I was a woman traveling on my own and everyone at this hotel was most helpful.
The surrounding area of old Delhi is not a problem, i was not hassled at all in fact i found it friendlier than other areas.
The hotel is excellent value for money and for my first visit to Delhi was a great start.

Horrible Front Desk Staff & Owner

We had worst experience of our life. We arrived Hotel on very Hot day. We provided ID (Passsport for my wife and daughter and Indian Tax ID card for me). This was not sufficient for the staff. Please note Airline and other Hotel in India accedpted this documents. They demanded my passport and Indian visa for all of us. We didn't bring this. They won't give us a room until we provide this. I have to call my nephew wo live 350 miles away to get his info. He went to bank ocker to get the info. I told the staff that info is coming by Email in 2+ hours. They won't give us a room unless we sign a piece of papaer which states that if info does not come in 2 hours then we have to empty the room and leave. I refused to sign. I spoke to Hotel owner Pradip Goel but he refused to do anything. Owner also was very rude. The front desk person Pawan was very rude to us. We requested to owner and Pawan to cancel our reservation due to this but they said we will be charged one night charges. The front desk didn't offer water or any drink. We sat for 3+ hours. Once document arrive they give us a room. Please note we stayed 3 nights at other Hotel and we had no issue. We literally got harassed by Hotel stadd and owner. No one should at this place. We lost complete day of our vacation due to this, Hotels.com must stop offering thisHotel to thir clients. We will never stay at this place and no one should stay at this place..

NICE HOTEL IN A BAD AREA

hotel is a clean nice place with helpfull staff but location is scary and dirty. there is rubbish dump right out side the alley when you come out to the street. surrounding area is safe but dirty and my mean very dirty. with a good underground metro system in delhi it is advisable to stay some where quite.

Good Spot in Old Delhi

We were pleasantly satisfied with the Tara Palace. The hotel is off of an alley near one of the markets, and the area looks a little rough (but this can be said for most of old Delhi). The hotel itself is very nice, well maintained and managed, and the staff were quick to help when asked. Our room was quite comfortable, and the restaurant serves simple veg fare but the food was fresh and well done. I would stay again.

Nice Hotel

Very nice staff and helpful. It is in a ally way and near a busy area but all is safe and is a quite hotel. You have a very nice travel agent ajacent to the reception of the hotel.
Plumbing needs some work. Food was good and nice breakfast. 20 min walk to spice market and Red Fort.

Located in Old Delhi, and a more genuine experience. But very poor neighborhood, and very crowded.
Our A/C was not working.
Hotel staff are very nice. Free b'kfast is good too. Rooms are clean.
Overall a good deal.

For the amount I had paid to book this hotel along with free airport pick up & breakfast..actually I was not expecting much but ..I was really happy to avail their facilities.At the airport my flight was delayed by 1 hours...Still I found the driver waiting...Check-in in the hotel was smooth ..Room service was prompt..Staff was Nice and helpfull...only slight problem this hotel has got is the neighbourhood issue as it is in a narrow lane..The area is full of activity But great thing is that the hotel is in heart of Old Delhi..

Perfect for Me

All the reviews helped paint an accurate picture of this scuffed up gem. I am a 50 year old woman travelling alone - held on tight to my bag in the surrounding area, first time in India, picked up from the airport, big locks on the door- delicious breakfast

Remember to send flight details

Staff is nice and helpful. The hotel is in a poor area, but a bit off to the side so allows to escape the madness.
Make sure to send flight information to the hotel for pick up. We did not know to do that and ended up scrambling for a cab from the airport.
Overall, for a first time traveler the place felt safe and good for an acclimation to India.

Tara Palace - My Palace

I love this place. This was my third visit in three years. The place is the same as ever - great. The spacious clean rooms are wonderful, as are the staff, even if you are checking in at 1AM!

Great hotel, BAD neighborhood

Tara Palace is a very clean, well maintained hotel and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. However, it is an oasis in the middle of a very shady neighborhood. It is located down a narrow alley off a bigger road, across from a garbage compound. I went with my boyfriend, who is 6 feet tall and a well built personal trainer, and even he didn't feel comfortable walking around the immediate surroundings. It is especially scary at night, so if you do go with Tara Palace just be sure to arrive and leave during daylight hours.

A budget hotel - central in Old Delhi

Despite being a budget hotel, I had a good relaxing time at the hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly. The surrounding was typical Old Delhi, near a loud noisy market but it has easy access to several attractions in Delhi.

The rooms was ok, the meal was ok, the free wifi(lobby only) was a nice surprise. We liked it for one night, dont think we would stay a week or even a weekend at this place, but for one night stop, its great.

Nice Hotel in unlikely location

You wouldn't expect this nice hotel to be in such a location. Located down a back alley of mad old Delhi, this hotel is clean, centrally located for Old Delhi tourist sights, good breakfast included, rooftop gives a great view of Old Delhi. On the negetive the air con broken on the 2nd to last day and it didnt get fixed but there was a fan in the room. It was a bit noisey at times with hotel noise, i.e. sounded like furniture was always being moved upstairs. No natural day light in the room but from other hotels we stayed in in Delhi that is normal.

Very close to Red Fort

Basic but comfortable hotel near Red Fort in middle of Old Delhi. Don't expect any frills or finishing touches and location not for the faint hearted as hotel in a very poor area; but don't be put off, staff friendly and helpful and airport pick up was as arranged, we were greeted by a friendly driver who was already there waiting for us.

We enjoyed our stay there and have booked in for another couple of nights when we head back to Delhi,

Walking distance to Red fort and Sish Ganj Gurdwara

My family stayed at this hotel and I had booked it online from Expedia. So, I am writing this review on their behalf. We had no problems in booking or any other kind. They really liked the place because of its excellent location. Staff was nice and well mannered.

Good value for the cost

The hotel staff was great and very accomodating. The food was ok if you like Indian food. I'm not a big fan and wished they had a bigger selection of western food, but what I had was good. The main problem is the entrance and the surrounding neighboorhood. You enter down a alley that is typical old Delhi. It's not very clean.

In fact the whold area is Old Delhi and you'll see a lot of sights and smells that are not very pleasant. But once you get used to it...it may take a couple of days...it has a particular charm and flavor that you'll not find anywhere else. Chandi Chowk is just around the corner and you'll find a lot of bargain shopping at the local markets. Close to the Jama Masjid and Red Fort and only a walk away from the Metro. All in all it was a good experience and even though the hotel only has wi-fi in the lobby...they also have a computer there for guests to use... I thought it was a good deal for what I paid.

If you like Old Delhi Chaos

\we arrived at 3am and were promptly met by the free airport shuttle. If you've never been to India before and this is your first time, you may want to consider something closer to the more touristic area and visit Old Delhi versus stay there. On the other hand, we acclimated more quickly than maybe we would have otherwise. Very close to Red Fort, but far from other sites. Hotel has tour office next door and we were able to do a tour of the most important Delhi sites in two days with car and driver for about 1200 rupees/day. Not too bad, but you can also get to the main sites for around 100-200 rupees by tuk tuk.

An oasis in the desert!

The hotel is located in an alley full of street vendors etc and it is kind of scary, but once you walk in to the hotel, it is a completely different atmosphere.
The staff is very helpful, great food (fairly priced too), and clean rooms! What more to expect for such a price!
A word of advise, if you are using their travel counter, try to get a good driver as almost all the drivers they gave took us to tourist traps! (gift shops which gives commission to drivers and restaurants (Red Onion New Delhi and Maharaja en route to Agra) who operates a higher priced menu for tourists who are bought in by drivers.

Great Place to Stay for Great Value

Unless you're in search of opulent luxury, this is about as good as it gets.

Staff -- particularly the front desk -- are very helpful.

Place is very clean and comfortable. I stayed for over a week so that should tell you something.

I just wish they had wireless in the rooms instead of only in the lobby.

Hotel Tara Palace in Old Delhi

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is in a great location if you want to be close to the sights of Old Delhi (5 mins walk to Red Fort, markets and bazaars etc) and see a bit more of everyday Delhi. It's 2 stops on the metro to Connaught Place and New Delhi. Room was clean and comfortable. The food from the hotel restaurant was delicious. Happy to recommend this hotel.
