His location reminds me of a launch you would find in the mountain and or ski resort.

The staff was a bit cold and a little bit arrogant. Maybe they need a little more training with regards to personable attitude.

The room itself was cute and cozy. The bedding was good. They don't have the best blackout curtains. Parking is convenient to each of the room buildings. There's a complex of about 9 buildings where the rooms are located.

The sauna and hot tub are a little bit scary and in disrepair. They have this tiny gem. That again looks a little dodgy

But they have breakfast. Buffet is complementary, and it's spectacular. Everything and in that dining hall was top notch.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Katla. The rooms were nice and clean, the property was in a beautiful location, and it served as a perfect base for touring southern Iceland. The breakfast was included and offered different options that were all delicious. The staff were friendly as well. The hot tub was nice, however it did get a little crowded at times. Overall, I would recommend Hotel Katla and would stay there again.

We were happily surprised with our big, modern, comfy, thoughtfully designed room with full kitchen and anything you’d need to cook/eat. Beds and bedding were comfy. The location was just beautiful and close enough to everything while feeling private and quiet. We had some drinks and pizza onsite which was all great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Kind of quaint, comfortable place with relaxing views. Room was well kept and maintained with all you need except maybe a mini fridge. The spa area was nice including a hot tub and sauna along with dressing facilities with shower and towels.
Restaurant was nice and well staffed with friendly/helpful people. As that crazy American, I do wish they has more selection of proteins for breakfast, but able to go without that for a couple days.

The facility is lovely. Rooms and modern and comfortable, hot tub and sauna are a fantastic addition.

But the staff.... yikes. Rarely in my travels have I encountered staff who seemes so genuinely bothered by having to actually deal with guests.

Front-desk agent was incredibly rude, both and check-in and out - dismissive, uninterested and condescending. Everyone else I encountered was simply disinterested.

So, facility, lovely. But the staff really diminished what would have been a great stay otherwise.

This hotel was very conveniently located, just a few minutes drive from the supermarket, restaurants, etc. Also, the rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast is pretty good and the restaurant -for dinner- was great too. We also had to stay an extra night -and stay in a full day- because of a snow storm and we felt secure.

I loved everything about this hotel. It’s aesthetically elegant inside and out. The staff was welcoming and upgraded us to a suite which was a delight after a long day hiking the glacier. The room and bathroom were spacious and felt new and modern. The included breakfast was tasty with a lots of options. We were treated to the most beautiful auroras at night.

Great property located just outside of town. The breakfast was amazing! The only draw back was that there was a large high school group on a trip that took over the hot tub and sauna during both nights of our stay making it a less than desirable way to spend our anniversary; yet not the fault of the hotel or staff. Overall we wilould absolutely stay here again.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and for the most part, the hotel was good but there are several areas that can be improved for a better stay:

The room: can definitely use more storage for 2 people. Very cramped to constantly open the luggages to take out clothing. The pillows were too soft - almost like sleeping on nothing. The duvet covers were ribbed and scratchy.

The bathroom: there was no hook at all to hang up clothes when showering. The small towel rack was just enough for 2 towels.

The breakfast: enjoyable but would be great to have variety for those who are staying multiple days. The only that changed was the smoothie on our last day.

Electricity kept going out in our room. We were told by staff that it was \"not strong\" and to not plug in many devices, however just plugging in our phone to charge tripped the breaker. Otherwise, room was spotless and beds were very comfortable. We had plenty of good towels and the breakfast buffet had very good selections which were all tasty.

Don't let first impressions as you drive in dissuade you - the place gives of a bit of a barn/farm vibe but is a very nice place once you get in. Having the reception & restaurant building disconnected from the building with the rooms was a little annoying - meant you had to bring your jacket and get pelted by rain/sleet/snow when you came down for dinner or breakfast. The restaurant was very nice and large and the buffet dinner offered a really nice assortment of options. The breakfast buffet was kinda lacking some of the staples we found at every other breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage) but was ok nonetheless. The restaurant staff were very competent (if not personable) and seemed to have been trained like a fine tuned machine (it felt like they were wiping away crumbs before they hit the table). Overall a nice place after a very hectic day.

Incredible stay at Hotel Katla! Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Location is very easy to find, and perfect for a driving holiday. We got to see the Northern Lights too!

Breakfast buffet was fantastic - loads of options and dietary information was very clear which made our experience much better. Really enjoyed the hot tub & sauna too. It was a shared ammenity, but was never too busy.

The breakfast bar was really good! And the dinner smorgasbord was amazing!!!! It was well worth the price as opposed to dining a la cart/entree. The room was nice and cozy and the view from the window towards the ocean was very nice as well. The location very convenient for Black Sands Beach. We plan on staying here again (and again).

This hotel was very clean and comfortable. It was outside of town bit and away from the road so it was quiet and lovely. The buildings are a bit dated, but the room was very nice. Our stay included breakfast, which was a largest and freshest continental breakfast I have ever seen.

The setting was beautiful. The breakfast was good. We had an issue with an overcharge and the staff was not helpful and very accusatory. We are still getting the run around from them with three different stories. Also the rooms when by the door entering into the building slammed shut non stop all night long, Not restful.

Pros:
- Friendly, helpful staff
- Delicious breakfast with options for various diets
- Comfortable, clean rooms
- Cozy lodge-style vibe

Cons:
- Gym and spa only open from 5pm–11pm, so morning or - afternoon workouts aren’t possible
- Need to walk between buildings to access rooms, restaurant, and gym.

Notes:
The location is fairly rural, with no nearby restaurants. We recommend dining at the hotel restaurant—the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Got there late and had to leave early the next morning so we didn't have much time to explore the property, but what we saw was very nice. Hotel was conveniently located for us to explore Dryholaey, Reynisjara, Skogafoss, Mossy Lava Fields and Fjadrargljufur.

Love that we booked this place for a night as we make our way around Iceland. Staff at the front desk was super nice, they have a laundry service for a fee but it’s convenient and they provide you a bag and depending on when you drop it off you could get it that evening or on your way to breakfast. Excited for the free breakfast buffet in the morning after eating at the hotel restaurant for dinner. They have the option of a dinner buffet on the menu and the options are amazing. The price might seem steep but try to get apps, salad, entree, and dessert for that same price in town. Wait staff was great. Room is spacious, bed is comfortable, good blackout curtains. Would recommend!

First room smelled like sewage. During the stay the staff was indifferent and manager treated me with such disrespect and rudeness for asking for Togo coffee cups. She tried to make it right after I approached her at check out but still ridiculous. $400 spends much better somewhere else.

Definitely the most disappointing hotel we stayed at during a week in Iceland. The campus is a bit reminiscent of an upscale summer camp, a mid-level college dormitory quad, or a prison farm. Room as large but satisfactory.

Excellent property. Beautiful views. Staff is phenomenal. Great breakfast. Convenient location, while being far enough away from Vik to be picturesque and quiet. Only complaint, is same as most hotels in Iceland, very warm in rooms at night in the summer (no airflow either). You can’t open the windows because of the bugs in this more rural area (no screens like elsewhere in Europe). And windows barely open anyways (I’m sure that’s for safety). We’re from hot steamy Florida and found sleeping here quite hard due to the warmth in the room. Otherwise - amazing place; I’d definitely stay here again.

Website shows there is a pool but there is not. Overall, we enjoyed our room and our stay. The bathroom is crazy tiny, no shampoo/conditioner, and no place to put it if you bring your own. Shower curtain is useless, and the entire bathroom floor was wet after showering. We only stayed one night so not a huge deal. Any longer and it would have been an issue. Dinner and breakfast were great, and staff all seemed very nice.

The property was well cared for and absolutely lovely! The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were very chic and beautifully decorated. Not to mention the hot pool out back and great dining options! They put such care into what they offered in their complimentary breakfast! It was delicious and beautiful, and well done considering how affordable they were! Would definitely recommend! Wish I would have stayed there more than one night!!!
