Positives - friendly welcome, decor and grounds are lovely, decent room in original building , enjoyed the spa facilities.
However, our stay was spoiled by our experience in Charlie’s restaurant. The tables are far too close together - we could hear every word spoken at both tables either side of us. Despite sections of restaurant being quieter, staff were seating everyone in same area. Breakfast was even worse - I was sat on bench style seating where two cushions joined so very uncomfortable. I had to get up and find a waiter to take our order for hot food and the omelette when it finally served looked like a dog’s dinner .
I don’t often write poor reviews but left with no choice as front desk staff were disinterested when I shared experience. We had come away for a relaxing night after receiving bad news but were left disappointed. The restaurant is not the standard of a 5 star hotel.

Really lovely overnight stay at Schloss Roxburgh, we were welcomed by a lovely guy on reception who got us checked in and showed us around the hotel to our room. Our room requests had been fulfilled. We used the spa which was lovely and relatively quiet. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but had snacks on our room. Next morning we enjoyed a swim before breakfast which was plentiful and tasty

Hotel and spa are stunning. Staff are friendly. Had a bad experience in the Charlie’s restaurant and the clubhouse cafe/spike bar. We headed for lunch in the clubhouse when we arrived as we liked the look of the menu, however we were told that a few of the items were unavailable due to a gas fault so this was fine but still depleted our choices. We ordered soup, pizza and haggis Bon Bon’s. The soup and Bon Bon’s were lovely but the pizza looked like it was microwaved and wasn’t very tasty, the meal came to £50 which I thought was extremely expensive for a snack menu. Then we had a reservation at Charlie’s restaurant for dinner, we chose the chateaubriand steak which is listed as a sharing option. However when it arrived it only came with one small portion of fries and a handful of spinach as well as a small peppercorn sauce. It was £95 and I would say it was only enough to feed one person, we had to order extra sides. We also tried to order a bottle of prosecco and were told that they had none left. We were told we could have champagne to which the cheapest bottle was £85 and as a young couple we were not willing to pay that. Overall the restaurant was extremely disappointing for such a great hotel. This is our second time at the hotel and we had a much nicer time on our last visit where we ate in the stateroom lounge but they have since changed the menu and it didn’t suit us hence why we went to Charlie’s.

We’ve stayed at Roxburghe many times in the past but it’s not the same. Since sold to the schloss and Hyatt group it has lost its charm. We will not go back and we will cherish our memories of its past charm.

Major issue was not being able to get a lounger at the spa, and when mentioned to the spa staff very little was done to help (there were many loungers not being used, and proper policing would have made this more enjoyable for all) A handful of others had the same experience. Overall, the spa overpromised and under delivered for us, but stay was otherwise flawless

When we arrived we were blown away with the setting of the hotel it has a very beautiful old woodland feel to it. Unfortunately the cottage that we had booked the tv did not work so we were promptly put into another one. We had originally booked a two bed cottage but were put into a one bed. The cottage was furnished really well but there was a layer of dust on most surfaces.The bed was firm but ok for us. The heating was very noisy and there were no instructions on how to use anything. We were given printed out pieces of paper on how to use the oven. The shower was quite cramped and leaked onto the floor. The terrace outside the cottage was nice but not at all private. I doubt that we will return here.

This is without a doubt the best hotel I have stayed at in my entire life.

The level of customer service is second to none.

The rooms are exceptional, the grounds are immaculate, the spa is beautiful, the outdoor pool is heated to a toasty 32C according to my watch. What an incredible stay.

I find it really hard to find any faults.

If I had to pick one fault. We had an 8:45pm dining time at Charlies on a Sunday night and I will admit that dinner took absolutely AGES! I think the poor staff were run off their feet and you could see how stressed out they were. The food was absolutely delicious. We did have one slightly pickier eater who would have loved a simple steak but there was none on the menu. I loved the food however.

The clay pidgeon shooting experience was booked through the hotel and the man who took us was such a gentleman. We paid £120 for the experience and he was happy to share the shots between our group. I would absolutely do this again when we return.

The golf course was immaculate and beautiful and everyone I had an encounter with was lovely. Even the local members on the course were happy to chat.

We can't wait to return again in the summer.

My 2 friends and I loved our 1 night stay in our cottage. Everything was perfect (apart from the beeping radiators which we turned off before bed but forgot the hall one). Food, drinks and staff were brilliant. We paid to use the spa which we had to wait to use as it was full but it worked out really well as there was something really special about being in the heated pool looking up at the moon and stars. We will definitely be back

I booked a cottage but upon arriving I was told that the spa was extra…£65 each for me and my wife. No where on the website did it say or that rooms in the hotel had it included. Given one of the main reasons for the visit was the spa we both felt let down. I also got charged for breakfast when I shouldn’t have.

We ate in Charlie’s and unfortunately it took one hour fifteen for our starters to arrive after having to ask 3 times for someone to take our order then they arrived Luke warm but we were so hungry we ate them.

Had a wonderful one night stay for a special occasion. Our primary reason for visiting was the spa and it did not disappoint. We used it the afternoon of arrival and the following morning before breakfast. It was lovely in the cold and we hope to experience it in warmer weather too.

We ate dinner in the hotel and it was very pleasant. Breakfast selection and quality was excellent.

Only some minor feedback: I had a cocktail in the State Room and it was fantastic, and when ordering the same drink in Bar 1745, it was very average. We were also charged for the wrong whisky (at a higher price) but this was changed at checkout without hassle.

I’d really like it if the pizzas in Charlie’s were available year round!

- no availability in the restaurants for 2 of our 3 night stays (never experienced that in any hotel I’ve stayed in before) - we weren’t pre warned we would need to have booked in advance
- felt like thy catered for external guests over those staying in the hotel - whilst they helped provide details of two other restaurants locally they were also fully booked
- called down to reception from the room to change the time of a booking and they said they could cancel it but if I wanted to change the time I would need to physically go down to the restaurant myself as they were too busy - do a high class hotel in though this service was poor
- cleanliness of the rooms was great but in some of the areas I would say it was poor - very dusty and in the restaurant the floors were filthy under the benches
- the gin / whiskey bar was amazing and the manager was wonderfully helpful such fantastic service from her

However there were factors that could have been improved such as service from staff being relatively poor and check in and check out times are transient. The room itself was lovely — comfortable, stylish, and exactly what you’d expect from a five-star hotel. Unfortunately, a few details let the experience down. The staff seemed completely overwhelmed, which made service feel a little disorganised at times.

We were told that booking for dinner was essential, but when we walked past later, the restaurant was mostly empty — a bit frustrating. There were also some issues with access to the spa, though thankfully we went earlier in the day and managed to get in without too much trouble.

Dinner was where the experience really fell short. The Chateaubriand, which is a premium dish, arrived still tied with the string on — not what you’d expect from a five-star kitchen. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but a few avoidable details meant it didn’t quite live up to the five-star promise.

Egg station is a good ofdering but on busy mornings large queues, coffee machine cant handle large volumes and toaster inadequate for busy breakfast service. We had such a lovely weekend here as a family! From the moment we arrived, the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The spa was beautiful and so relaxing, and the treatments were amazing.

Our room was spacious, super comfortable. The food was delicious — fresh, full of flavour, and delicious.

If I had to mention one small thing, the hot tub and pool could have been a little warmer — but that’s honestly the only tiny thing in an otherwise perfect stay. The whole place has such a calm, luxurious feel, and it was lovely to find somewhere that feels indulgent but still really family-friendly.

We left feeling relaxed, happy, and already talking about when we can come back!

We bought a bottle of champagne at over hundred pounds for the waitress to pour the first glass then be told to “pour the rest yourself” unprofessional from a 5 star resorts. We had an unannounced \"turn down\" service let themselves into our room at 9pm on a Sunday night. Not ideal, a bit late and no forewarning or apology. Spa was nice if a little busy. Very slow service at dinner which was not particularly busy, was so slow we didn't stick around to get desserts which was a shame because the food was good. The breakfast was good and varied and the chef at the breakfast bar was friendly and helpful making eggs how you like it, omelettes and pancakes to order. A beautiful property, stunning room but a little underwhelming with the unusual turn down service situation and inattentive waiting staff for dinner.

The Jacuzzi was out of order in the spa and there was no steam room which would have enhanced my relaxation. There are 2 saunas which were nice, the outdoor pool exceptional. An impressive looking property especially at night. The Concierge staff are very welcoming and helpful. The hotel has a good feel with lifts to both floors if required. The rooms are well appointed, modern and everything works well. The double shower was perfect. The spa is something else. It starts as you walk down the corridor giving you a feeling of calm with the music and smells. The staff are great, helpful and no silly rules. Once you enter the spa you experience the lovely layout and all the comfortable beds and loungers, almost spoilt for choice. The out door pool is one of the best i have experienced with two saunas a plunge pool and jacuzzi to compliment it all.
Breakfast in the dinning room is very good. An excellent spread of fresh fruit, breads, cold counter and a good quality hot food. There is a chief who will make you anything to do with eggs. There are items they charge extra for which i couldn't understand. Ive never had to pay £7 for a bowl of porridge. Avocado on toast was more. They should look at scrapping them charges.
We stayed at the hotel for a week but only dined in the restaurant (Charlies) on the first night. The portion sizes are simply to small. We came away still hungry. The prices even for a hotel make your eyes water. £19 for the smallest portion of cheese and biscuits i have ever had is not right. The quality and temperature of your coffee is dependent on who makes it.

I stáyed at the Schloss Roxburghe with my boyfriend as a surprise for his 40th birthday. What can i say? For beginners, from the moment you drive through the gates and jead towards the Schloss, your breath is taken away, set in beautiful surroundings, the Schloss Roxburghe looks like something from a story book!
Check in was fast and easy and we were shown around so we knew whete everthing was.
I booked thr kimg suite and.it.was beautiful, very spacious and comfortable and my partner.was.surprised witha lovely hand written card and a birthday message.with cake waiting in our room for him.
The spa is something dreams are made of, we made use of it on the day or arrival and the morning after at 7am, the weather was beautiful so a swim in their infinity pool was the perfect way to begin our day. Breakfast was bountiful, with such a large choice. They literally have everything you could possibly want. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing.
From start to finish, our trip was one to remember and we cant wait to return. Thank you Schloss Roxburghe for an amazing stay.

This is a lovely hotel, staff were great, food was fabulous. They have an excellent pastry chef. It’s a relaxed hotel in a quiet area. Very handy for travelling by car from Newcastle.

One point, some rooms are directly above the function room and there was a wedding on when we were there. They lit fire pits which meant our room quickly filled with the smell of smoke. We had wanted our bedroom window open at night but couldn’t because of the fire pits, even when they moved them round the corner the smoke was still coming into the room. It’s also a bit noisy if you have a room above the function room as wedding guests came outside. However, the weddings stop at midnight so you can get to sleep after that.

Good quality hotel, service mostly good

Lovely accommodation, castle rooms felt a little tired but the bathrooms were excellent. The drawing room space is a wonderful retreat. The bar is not staffed as often as I’d expect and it was occasionally challenging to get a mid morning coffee. The spa staff were pretty unfriendly about small children coming through the entrance due to treatments taking place but they have set children’s swim time of 9-10 and 4-5 so these policies and practices seemed at odds with one another.

We booked this hotel following positive feedback from friends.

I can safely say this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. From the warm hospitality of the staff, to the cleanliness of the room, the exquisite food, and the range of facilities at our leisure, it was just incredible. The spa and its heated outdoor pool was a particular highlight.

It was a simply phenomenal experience. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but worth every single penny.

Seriously Sensational Schloss

Had an amazing couple of nights at Schloss. The staff are so lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The decor is absolutely stunning. Beautiful rooms with comfortable beds and the spa is to die for. Breakfast of champions. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for pure luxurious relaxation! 5 stars
