The hotel is absolutely beautiful. But on the very top is the staff. Monika at the restaurant was always so welcoming with us. Boe and Tobbie were both so attentive, polite and friendly. They help made our stay so very special. Thank you all.

The staff were friendly. However, the pool was very small and seemed quite old. The breakfast also needs improvement. The showerhead in the bathtub was broken, which was disappointing. More proactive maintenance is needed. Overall, it didn’t feel like it was worth the price.

Pros: the staff (Monika and Earth especially!) was amazing, breakfast was delicious and the poolside Songkran activities were fun. Pool area is small but so nice for a dip each afternoon (omg is thailand HOT) and the bar was reasonable and convenient. Room snacks and bottled water were nice touches (thanks for the cookie refills). Laundry was cheap by US standards and convenient. Used Grab to get around most days to beat the heat - also very inexpensive.

Cons: the room, while spacious, was tough for a week. There wasn’t any drawer or counter storage so we had things piled everywhere. We looked like slobs I’m sure. A few extra hooks would be helpful too.

The hotel is centrally located, with nice, quiet rooms and a heated pool. The staff is friendly, but not as helpful as one might wish. Although always smiling, they were unable to (or maybe unwilling to) provide simple food recommendations beyond one or two restaurants...not sure if they are only allowed to suggest certain businesses. The same is true when it comes to activities. They seem to want to book trips for you, but are less happy about helping you with trips you have pre-booked. The rooms were great except the hot water in my room cycled thru extremely hot to lukewarm every 20 secs. So you always had to step out of the water every 10 secs to avoid getting burned.

Amazing stay at Thai Akara. The service was amazing from staff, they helped book activities for us when ever we needed! On our last day we had an early flight and they even provided us with a breakfast takeaway box. The hotel itself is clean, nice and has everything you need. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had a good variety of food- they make sure they cater to vegetarians. The only slight negative was only one bedside table in a double room. We would definitely come back to this hotel as it is close to all the main attractions also.

Lovely little hotel tucked away in the old city. Small and boutique this was the perfect spot to explore Chiang Mai. All of the staff were lovely and helpful and were quick to resolve an A/C issue in our room. The breakfast choice isn’t huge but with the hotel only having 20ish rooms you don’t expect a lavish banquet. Would stay again and would recommend to others

I just spent 4 Nights at the Thai Akara Hotel. I came to Chiang Mai to recharge after 2 hard weeks in Mongolia. As a woman traveling alone, the location was great as I had lots of dining options close to the hotel at night. During the day it is in the perfect location to walk the highlights of the old town and easy pick up for tour operators.

My room was really clean, the breakfast every day was yummy, and the staff was really helpful. They had activities at the hotel for guests. I was not able to participate but nice that they offered.

I was nervous pulling up as there were a lot of bars in the area but when you turn down the little street the hotel is on, it is all quiet.

If I go back to Chiang Mai, I would easily stay there again.

The stay was amazing! We were immediately upgraded to a suite that was amazing. The facilities were well maintained, clean and up to date. The staff was so polite and helpful, when we entered our taxi to leave, we found out the Hotel had provided free taxi to the airport. Overall it was an amazing stay in a beautiful hotel!

Very nice property in an excellent location in the Old City. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We were just a block away from the Sunday Night Market. Lots of
bars and restaurants (both Thai and Western) are nearby. Easy walking distance from some of the better museums if you are interested in learning more about Lanna culture.

Stayed in a room with a pool outside my room. The decking is clearly not installed well with boards disjointed. Use of composite decking in hot climate is gives blistering hot boards to walk on getting in and out of the pool. Note that the pool temp is surprisingly cold despite the hundred degree afternoons.
Floors are very slippery when wet in the walkway between rooms and main office. Rooms are very nice and have lots of great treats though as a side sleeper, the beds are really hard and a bit painful.
Very nice breakfast and the location was good with parking for our vehicle.

The staff were so helpful, nothing was a problem. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and on our last day they had a cookery course style table. We sat eating our strawberries we had purchased from a market and the kind lady asked us if we wanted a salad made using them. It was delicious. Only negative was the lack of lighting on the narrow walk past the pool to room 106.

What a gorgeous property! Just 2 things let it down....1) you can hear everything so the rooms can be a little noisy. 2) no room service after? I think 10pm or something like that, not a biggy but I'd expect top stays to have 24hr room service. Otherwise, fantastic place.

The pool area is very nice although a little small, and the property has a very chill vibe about it. Our room was not very sound proof so we could hear some outside noise but this was not severe and didn’t disturb our sleep.

The hotel is in the middle of the old town its close to the sunday night markets.
They are very cheap!
Food there is amazing.
Be aware of how poluted chaimg mai is the haze over the city is pretty disgusting.
But for a day or 2 its ok.

The room we stayed in had its own swimming pool next outside the room - which was nice.

The hotel also helped with a tour to an elephant sanctuary and recommended GRAB - like uber.
So much easier for a traveller as you know what your paying and there is no confusion on destinations esp good if they cant speak English.

Breakfast was good - a nice mix of western and thai.

Get the concierge to spray your room - for mosquitoes.

Hotel is in a great location tight in the centre of the old town. You have good restaurants on your doorstep and if you wish to go to the Sunday Market it is few 100 meters away, but it’s location means it is really quiet as wll.

-Staff was amazing. Very professional and helpful with advice about where to go and what to see.
-The rooms have charm and character
-The location was perfect for exploring old town Chiang Mai

-Rooms are noisy given older property. So in the morning you can hear doors slamming or babies crying as was the case with my neighbouring room.
-Breakfast was ok, although certainly not the best I've had in Thailand and given the price paid for this room, my expectations were set higher.

Beautiful looking hotel with a very boutique vibe. Rooms are large and comfortable, mini bar incl water and some soda. Staff is attentive and helpful. Although this hotel is slightly tucked away- all taxi, tuk tuk drivers knew where it was. Breakfast is quite basic and uninspiring, but pool was great albeit small.

What a little oasis after coming from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The Thai Akara-Lanna Boutique Hotel was OUTSTANDING! It feels very fancy and is decorated so beautifully! The whole time you’re amazed by the great deal you got from Hotels.com! The staff was so friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic! The location was superb, as well. Additionally, they decorated our room as we were celebrating our anniversary and even made us a cake! I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone I know traveling to Chiang Mai!

This was a very beautiful, chic, sophisticated, boutique hotel. It's set off the street so it's very quiet, but an excellent location for local attractions, shopping and transportation. It's within walking distance to 2 main temples: Wat Chedi Luang being one of them. The hotel has 2 pools, but most people spend their time at only one of them as the 2nd pool has no lounge chairs. The main pool area is relatively small with not enough chairs, but poolside bar is excellent ... we had several drinks and ordered bar food ... and makes for a relaxing afternoon after a day of sightseeing and shopping. Our room was spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We had a small terrace overlooking the main pool. Service was a 10. Breakfast was just OK. Would DEFINITELY go back and highly recommend!

This is a beautiful hotel, quiet, clean, lovely rooms and very friendly staff. Right in the old town but very quiet, like a little haven away from all the noisy city. Breakfast was excellent - buffet and a la carte for eggs etc. excellent coffee. Pool is lovely but as others have mentioned it is cold! We would definitely recommend and would stay again.

When I arrived at Sunday late afternoon, there was a night market. The taxi could not access the hotel. I had to walk 200m with my luggage. But the hotel staff kindly helped to move it to the hotel. Consider check in sunday, except everything was excellent. If I come to Chiang Mai, I should stay there.

This hotel is amazing actually looks better than the pictures. The only two things I would say is that the bed is very firm, although I slept good the bed was very loud from the wood frame and the firm mattress. The second thing is the WiFi worked but was spotty at time it disconnected and reconnected. The pool was beautiful but as anywhere in Thailand bring bug spray and pool was cold as weather was cooler in the maintains

A downtown oasis

We loved our 3 night stay at the Thai Akara-Lanna. The hotel is relatively small in size but is well appointed and has such a lovely atmosphere.

Our triple room on the 3rd floor had plenty of space and was very comfortable. Air con and WiFi both worked well. The rainfall shower was also really nice, as were the toiletries.

Breakfast each morning was fresh and you could select from the buffet or get something cooked to order.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We found the location good and we easily walked to restaurants and tourist sites without any trouble.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and would certainly stay again!

Lovely modern hotel in the centre of the old town

The hotel is right in the centre of the old town, close to all major temples and some very exclusive spas. The rooms are large, comfortable,and very clean, in the spacious bathroom cosmetic amenities are provided. Housekeeping and all the other staff are excellent. Breakfeast offers a great variety of choice from western to asian. The layout and architecture is beautiful, the grounds are well-kept and have two adequate swimming pools. The only disadvantage is the lack of privacy of the balconies due to the design of the hotel, however that was no issue for us.If we come back to Chiangmai we will stay again at the Thai Akara again.

However down a dark alleyway Very nice exterior at night when all lit up but should really be surrounded by nice lawns and gardens not stuffed between other buildings.
There is no public area- no lounge or bar and the hotel foyer is tiny.
The bedroom was clean had everything required but there are sharp corners to bump into and a step to the bathroom. The hotel on the whole has steps up and down and the breakfast room is up a flight of stairs with no lift.so unsuitable for those with mobility issues. The breakfast is limited and the cooked dishes seemed to be produced by someone who was still learning.
This was the most expensive in which we stayed during our trip and we could not quite understand why it was so expensive

Thai Akara is a great little hotel! The rooms are spacious with nice balconies! It is located very conveniently within the old city with plenty to see, eat and drink within walking distance. The staff were great, very courteous and helpful. Helped us with leaving our luggage and sorting out a taxi. Stayed for 6 nights for the Chiang Mai lantern festival and hotel is ideally centrally located in the old town. Had pool access room (106) which was well appointed and the pool was shared with 2 other rooms but was only used by us. Staff were exceptional and nothing was ever too much trouble. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful and quiet oasis in central location in the old city. Immaculate grounds. Rooms are modern and stylish, yet cozy with a local feel. Staff was welcoming, always gracious and responsive in addressing our needs and requests. Would definitely stay here again.

Quiet Boutique Hotel

Loved this little boutique hotel! Spacious and well designed rooms, comfy bed, quite location and fab shower. All of the employees were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, a highlight were the yummy croissants. I would highly recommend this hotel.

A perfect place to stay in Chiang Mai

We had a lovely stay at the Thai Akara! From check in to check out, the staff was on top of their service and very friendly. The hotel itself is beautiful...very chic! It is a peaceful oasis in the heart of old Chiang Mai city!

Our room was very comfortable and big. There were free snacks, sodas, coffee and bottled water. Being on the first floor, we were steps away from the pool and lounge chairs. We also loved our patio to relax on!

Free breakfast came with our reservation...a continental buffet and an entree. Every morning we would sit outside, enjoying lattes, as we waited for our meals. The two ladies who worked the breakfast were also very nice!

The location was perfect for walking! We walked to the Night Bazzar and to the beautiful temples that were near by. Around the corner was a nice pub called Annie’s that served draft International beer...the first we saw in Thailand. We met the owner, Trevor, and came back a few times for pizza (a needed break from Thai food). Around the corner in the other direction, was a huge outdoor area with clubs and bars. There were at least 15 different establishments with DJs, live music, etc. You could hear anything from Reggae to Ed Sheeran! Definitely a fun spot worth checking out for nightlife and people watching.

All in all, we loved our time in Chiang Mai at Thai Akara

A beautiful hotel hidden in the heart of the old city. Small yet with all the facilities you need. Beautifully situated around a courtyard with a small pool, an oasis of white with lovely lanterns as part of the decor. Our room was spacious and comfortable with modern tasteful intereiors. Staff were friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. A lovely 5n stay.

Great hotel with a wonderful staff! They were very accommodating and were attentive to our every need. The hotel grounds were immaculate! I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Very close to the Sunday Night Market and in close proximity to restaurants and shops.

Beautiful hotel with a nice pool and small gym. Our room was massive with a lovely balcony. The bed wasn’t too comfortable though. Breakfast wasn’t very good either. All in all a nice place to stay in the old city.

What a lovely small x friendly hotel! Tucked away from noise
but so close to the city, food , shopping. Nice pool and bar, restaurant
for good breakfast. Polite x helpful staff, everything well kept.
It looked like other guests were also enjoying their stay at Thai Akara.!
