Central location in old Chiang Mai and at the same time such a respite from the street noise. Staff was amazing, great service, and the restaurant was spectacular. The Lanna style architecture of the buildings made it such an authentic experience. The only negative was that the hotel transport was quite expensive.

The room was a bit cramped for 3 people (adults). The extra bed provided was small. Main bed though was comfortable. The bathroom needs more light. The toilet and shower were very dim. The door knob of the room is old school loch and key. Problem is that the know would leave a metallic smell on your hands after holding. This is basically more “rustic.” It’s the vibe the hotel gave me. Location is perfect though. This is what will make me come back. The layout of the property gives it a very resort like feel with the pool being the center of the communal area. Unfortunately, there are better fitted (modern) and bigger hotels in the proximity. However, this hotel has limited rooms making it quieter and intimate. The free temple tour was fantastic. It gave me a glimpse of Thailand as far as 600 - 700 years back with the Emerald Buddha’s history and its role on Thai religion. The old city is all about Temples and food. This is a great place to stay if you want that experience.

I absolutely fell in love with this hotel. The staff are incredible, the restaurant food is delicious, and the activities on offer are great. Room is very clean and cute. The location is premium — super central — and the Sunday market around the hotel is a must-see. I can’t recommend it enough!

Charming Oasis with a Few Flaws

Tamarind Village is a beautiful and serene hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming, the location is perfect, and the restaurant serves absolutely delicious food. The design and atmosphere make it a truly special place.

However, our room’s AC didn’t cool properly, which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable, and the shower tended to overflow, requiring time between uses.

Despite these issues, we loved the experience overall and would still recommend it for its charm, service, and setting.

This is our second visit to Tamarind. We would never consider anywhere else in Chiangmai. It is a tranquil space.beautiful pool area. Great choice at breakfast. Rooms are cool and pristine. Gardens are lush and tropical and of course staff are very friendly and helpful. Top marks.

Excellent as always, i always stay here when in chiang mai. though this time i though it was not good, petty, to charge us at check out, we booked the best room they had, for a bag of potato and mango chips that we were told were complimentary with the room since they were on the entry table with the fruit… maybe we misunderstood that is was only the fresh fruit, but mango is a fruit and one person in my party was Thai and understands Thai clearly… lol… anyway… considering the high expense of the room they should have waived this since i told them we were clearly told it was complementary, unlike the mini bar, and not made me have to deal with paying $4 at check out - it was such a petty amount i paid it without any further protest but nevertheless, it is little things like this that cause bad reviews..i still gave a good review because it was the check out staff persons error and not the fault of the hotel in general - i am sure a manager would have corrected it but it was not even worth the time. My advice to the hotel staff is the to listen more to your loyal customers, especially if they are fluent in Thai.. one note, a customer next to me was complaining about the size of the rooms, they are not huge and that is the way most of the hotels are in the old city in chiang mai are - keep in mind it is a condensed area and the older buildings are from when people were shorter and did not bring so much luggage.

A beautiful gem to stay at in Chiang Mai. The hotel is super charming with a very authentic feel. The staff are so amazing. The breakfast is really delicious especially the sticky rice. Service at breakfast is fabulous. The pool is lovely. And the pool staff are also incredible. The over 200 year old tamarind tree in the center of the hotel is so amazing. The only thing that bothered me were the dogs barking from the neighbors property. Other than that, a fabulous stay.

This property is hidden away in the heart of the old city. It is a calm and quiet haven. The staff are so amazing! They remember you and care to help in anyway they can. We loved the place so much we added 5 more days! Our room was lovely. We had a suite for the first half of our stay and a standard room the second half and both were lovely.

The hotel looks amazing, however the room was too dark, and unfortunately our air con did not work properly and pn our last night completely broken. However, the staff was so kind and moved us to the new room and this room was amazing with balcony and more light. The other thing was the food - not so many options for vegan. But overall lovely hotel and very friendly staff.

This is a small, beautiful hotel that has so many fantastic details. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The pool area is very nice, breakfast buffet was great. The room is a bit small, but it has everything you need. Mosquito nets are provided and recommended at night. We used ours and were not bothered by mosquitoes at all. You can walk everywhere from here. Highly recommended.

Very pleasant and professional staff. Made you feel most welcomed from the moment you arrive to your departure. A few minor quips. They should provide complimentary soaps and shampoos for their guests to take home as they are very nice products. The other is that they should have a more powerful pool filtration system as it seems like there isn’t much flow so the pool water seems stagnant and warm. And maybe some anti-slip taking around the pool would prevent guests from slipping when emerging from the pool

My room was like a box with outside lights on throughout the night. Barely slept for 4 nights. I am very disappointed. There are properties around that I have stayed before and thoroughly enjoyed with same access to the market. Breakfast buffet Meh. There is no gym. Pool is small and is where they serve breakfast from 7AM to 10 Am and the pool opens at 7 AM so could not swim either while people have breakfast around you. Ridiculous really. I booked this Hotel based on the previous reviews, that was blunder. For less money I could have stayed at Le Meridian which BTW is a phenomenal hotel. Oh BTW the staff was amazing 5 star for them. But my room was horrible.

Oasis in Chiang Mai

Feels like you've stepped into an oasis from another time.
Lovely Lanna architecture and Lanna touches in the tastefully decorated rooms, yet it is right in the middle of the Old City, steps from major temples and museums. During our visit we appreciated the calm and quiet after a week in Bangkok; the friendliness and attentiveness of the hotel staff who were full of helpful suggestions for our 3-day stay; and the restaurant with excellent northern Thai food as well as Western dishes. We loved and learned a lot during the free 2-hour walking tour of area temples and historic sites offered by the hotel. The hotel also arranged a day-long tour of Doi Inthanon National Park (highest peak in Thailand) and its beautiful waterfalls and cloud forest, nearby markets, gardens, and a local village and coffee operation. Tamarind driver Suwit Udnhun and independent tour guide Nearun Phanpaiboon gave us a day to remember - stunning beauty, background on the area's history and culture - and took great care to tailor the tour to our interests as we went along. We had a simply wonderful stay in Chiang Mai thanks to Tamarind Village and its people.

Tamarind Village is a treasure in the middle of old town, but set back from street noise. The walking tour of many of the temples (free, but tip your guide) is fabulous. The central courtyard with the very swimmable pool is very relaxing, as is the signature 200-year-old tamarind tree in the next courtyard over. The included breakfast buffet is wonderful, including out of this world homemade yoghurt, tropical fruits and hot dishes. Decor and art set a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. Very friendly staff!

This has been one of the top spots to stay in the Chiang Mai old city for two decades, and it has come through Covid in great form. We had a wonderful time over Easter weekend, and while Chiang mai is slightly ragged, it is a great time to visit without the crowds which made the city a problematic lace to visit in the five years or so up to March 2020.

It is a quiet oasis in the center of the Old City, so it is easy to navigate walking to the major temples, wonderful museums, and historic places. There is a lot to choose from in shops, restaurants, anything is easy access. The Tsmsrind Village offers free walking tours, as well as free Thai craft classes. Their breakfast is wonderful and the dinner menu is wonderful and reasonable as well.

Complimentary village walk was excellent! Included visit to 3 very local temples with alms/food offering and blessing; very informative guide (lady).
Small details, like beautiful, unique postcards in the room.
Nice shop too, but quite expensive.
Service very good - Candy and Wilawan at reception were outstanding (but couple of others need a bit more training).
Restaurant by the pool is beautiful. Food (Thai) was good, especially dinner - wish they have different, lighter menu for lunch. Breakfast buffet satisfactory but not exceptional.
We had two different rooms for two stays (left luggage in the hotel for two days while tracking). First deluxe Lana room which was small but cute with the view of the great Tamarind tree and second Spa room - beautiful terrace, and big, open air, but covered bathroom (mosquitoes could be an issue though).
Hotel has 3 exists, two on the main roads and one behind the spa that takes you almost in front of Three Kings monument, very convenient.

An oasis of calm in handily located in the old town. Plenty of food and shopping in the local vacinity. The property is set in lush tropical gardens with a great pool and restuarant space. The spa was also good. Just a couple of matters that otherwise dented a perfect stay. The bed was fairly hard and the pillows flat and the hotel has the annoying habit of not quoting prices for anything inclusive of service charges and tax, this is left for the receptionist to explain. This is a pet peave , as it’s not hard to quote the price the guest is going to pay thus avoiding the convoluted price explanation upon checkout.

I echo other visitors - great location but very calm. Pleasant architecture ,set around a series of courtyards; staff, rooms, food, all excellent. I struggle to find anything to improve . It is not a bargain hotel, but it is good value, it is is mildly annoying to have to re fire up up the wifi every time you come to use it- but clearly I am struggling to find anything that could be improved!

There is only one negative point to raise which is the cockerel outside our room which consistently woke us up each morning at 5am! Other than that no criticism whatsoever.

Upon arrival staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and remained so throughout. On our first night we were awoken at 2am by a very loud rooster who was on nearby property of a local and the hotel kindly changed our room and things greatly improved. The hotel is greatly situated in the ancient city with many shops and restaurants within immediate walking distance from the hotel. While the hotel is located in a busy area the hotel feels very secluded and calm with lots of greenery and a beautiful pool. The hotel offers a lovely breakfast. It also offers daily entertainment, including a free tour of some of the local temples which we strongly recommend. Overall we highly recommend this hotel as it felt like a sanctuary in the heart of the city and the staff were extremely warm and professional.

Great and courteous service throughout our stay. Great location - Sunday night market is just at our doorstep. Excellent Morning Village tour, which is beyond expectations as it is a free tour. Candy was humourous yet provided insightful explanations and details which made each temple meaningful to us. We also went on an excursion to Doi Suthep and our guide Tana was friendly, cheerful and a fantastic photographer. More importantly, she recommended two spots for food and was easily our best meals throughout the 4 days we were in Chiang Mai. I also appreciate the sincerity shown by the staffs and our guide, Candy and Tana.

We loved the hotel! It was very relaxing! We will stay again when we visit Chiangmai next time!

Wakes you up in the morning when sun is up (sun light coming to the room and chickens crying around the neighborhood)
So many people around the neighborhood and the road will be shutdown during the Sunday market (if you are checking in on Sunday, you should try to check in before 4:30)

Nice grounds of hotel and friendly staff. Great free walking tour and breakfast good. But curtains are not blackout and sun woke me up which shouldn’t happen in a luxury hotel.

Also the tours and transfers of done through the hotel are WAY overpriced. Use the grab app or just arrange for them to get you a taxi for the day to wherever you want to go.

Can't say enough positive things about this week's stay at Tamarind Village. Booking was easy and messaging promptly returned about airport transport to the hotel and delivery of a package UPS, which I arranged from another city.

The hotel and spacious room were clean and pleasantly decorated. The grounds and pool area were meticulously groomed and cleaned. We were warmly welcomed as returning guests (2012). WiFi was strong and consistent. The hot pot and small refridgerator were most welcome.

And then there is the breakfsst. While we didn't choose the made to order eggs, pancakes. etc, other diners appeared to enjoy this option. We chose the Thai dishes with noodles / rice with vegetables and meats. These were accompanied by well supplied fresh fruits, meats and cheeses, grilled and fresh vegetables. breads and juices.

The hotel has \"green\" policy regarding linens and trash, which we applaud.

The staff were pleasant and the afternoon learning activities were fun as well. From this location, it was easy to explore the walled old city on foot. ATMs are available as are 7-11s for a quick snak. The front desk arranged for transportation to venues not in walking distance and to airport or bus station for continued travel.

Highly recommended this accomodation and its gracious staff.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the food at the hotel, it was excellent.
However our first night we couldn't sleep due to the neighbouring property having 10+ cockerels who were fighting and crowing at all hours, so we were moved to another part of the hotel. The spa was excellent and we had several massages. The staff were friendly and keen to help in any way, from organising taxis and telling the driver in 'Thai' where we wanted to go, or organising various excursions. I would recommend this hotel, just not room 1205!

A pleasant, nice, cozy hotel to stay

My first time travelling to Chiang Mai and glad that I selected to stay in this hotel, I recommended my friends to stay here when travelling to Chiang Mai.
I also like their small workshops of painting and flower deco making. It’s relaxing and mind-refreshing.

This is not the most luxurious hotel you can get in Thailand, but if you are looking for a quiet getaway with friendly passionate staff, this is the place to be.

The hotel is almost zen-like - passing thought a bamboo tunnel from the main street you arrive in the property. Smooth check-in, clean and cozy room with access to the lawn with that literally 200 years old tree. Everyday they have different cultural activities (craft, art etc) held at the lawn.

Staff members are wonderful that you can feel they are not just being helpful, but passionate in showing you places around.

Located in the center of old city area, 3 mins walk to restaurants, main templates and hawker stalls.

Great hotel. Great location in old city

Staff is wonderful. Room was very clean and well appointed. Breakfast buffet is superb with amazing array of fruits, vegetables, omelets, cereal, meats etc. Really enjoyed breakfast by pool in the morning and drinks by pool in afternoon. Also, very fun night market on the street in front of the hotel on Sunday when we arrived.
