Easy check in. We had contacted in advance about early check in options as our plane landed at 8.30am but this could not be guaranteed until the day unless we bought in advance the day before. We decided not too and the host contacted us in the morning to say we could head straight from the airport - this was so helpful.
On arrival, check in was easy and smooth. We didn’t receive any sort of handover info in terms of ‘this is how you work heating, this is how you do TV’s etc’ but we managed to work everything out with a Google.
Staff were on site, room cleaned daily, bins emptied etc. there were two gardeners also always on site, and the garden grounds were immaculate and well maintained.
The apartment ( we stayed in the cottage) had everything we could need and was truly self catering including tea towels, washing up liquids, oil etc!
On day we sat out on the sun loungers and the gardeners arrived with cushions without prompting and fitted these for us - very kind!
Felt safe and secure with gated entry, quiet area other than some birds that were noisy in the morning but nothing can help that!

We really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to visit again.

Checkout was quick and smooth too!

My family of 5 rented the cottage and 2 garden facing studios, #3&4 and we all had a great stay.
Comfort in every aspect. Would definitely return. Shopping and eating is within a short walk or drive. Everything needed is provided. Cleanliness is a priority.

The Haystack is a wonderful place to be

The beautiful garden, swimming pool, and walling distance to shops make this already a great location but it geta even better with the air conditioned rooms, backup generator power, and best of all the hospitality of the owner/manager. They were always acomidationg for anything that we needed. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in thw area

Great stay. Apartment was clean and comfortable and had all needed amenities that make you feel \"at home\". The staff was very attentive as well, and the communication was good. The pool and backyard of the facility is very nice as well!

Owner was professional yet friendly (husband’s 4th visit, my first). Spotless accommodation, thoughtful food gift as we arrived late at night. Gorgeous setting, tranquil garden, quiet location close to dining options. A “hidden gem” indeed❤️❤️

I gave them a lower rating because that the water was shut off for a complete day in witch it ruins the fact that could not take a shower nor do any laundry although they did try to help by providing buckets for flushing the toilet I believe that if the water has been on ,it was for the most part close to 5 star rating

Great Stay

Check in was smooth. Room was neat,spacoous and clean. This place is in a good location ,easy walk or quick drive to eateries,shoping centre. It has a pool and braai facilities. I enjoyed my stay.

Unpleasant experience

Firstly meet with unpleasant situation- demand of ZAR1000 deposit- I have never had this anywhere in the world. I waited at the gate for a long time before they opened the gate and people were watching me waiting at the gate.

The coffee maker does not work and leaked all over the counter.

I got 1 small bottle of complimentary water on the first day

When i left i was told by the SECURITY GUARD that i had to wait for him to check the room before he could let me leave the premises- can you believe this.

This place is totally overrated and i will never stay there again.

Brilliant place.

After reading the previous reviews I decided to book up. It was the day before and I arrived early in the morning. The owners couldn't of done anymore, they got my room ready, upgraded me and generally looked after me so well. The room was spotless with everything you could possibly want, shower was powerful and as hot as you could want it, all heaters and electrics worked as they should. The pool was clean and the gardens immaculate.
I felt secure but free to leave at any time and do as I please.
The staff and owners were always about and couldn't do enough for me. Best accommodation I've stayed in for a very long time!
It's worth a lot more than I paid and I shall certainly be returning here soon. Thank you again for the great stay.

Ideal place for staying in the city

The Haystack is a self catering establishment in Sandton. We stayed there for 3 nights at the end of our holiday. The staff were amazing and helpful. Although it is primarily aimed at business travellers it was ideal for us as holiday makers just wanting time to chill out before heading home again.

In a decent part of town.

I was very happy with my choice after I saw the place in person. Sometimes, when looking at pictures on the web for a place to stay, I've been astounded at what some people can do with pictures and what I've actually encountered. This is a fairly new place and much thought has gone into making it very nice. The staff of regulars, which for me was Maya and David, were welcoming and gracious. They took care of my needs in a very responsive manner. And spent time introducing me to the other guests. The owner, Abiola, an outgoing, pleasant man, was always inquiring about how my accommodations were. I don't recommend many of the places I stay at, because I don't normally do that type of thing. But, I have no qualms telling you to stay here. Enjoy your stay. I was very lucky to locate the Haystack in my search for a place to stay where the price was right. And the people were outgoing and happy.

Little gem - highly recommended

What a pleasant surprise! I had a studio room for 5 nights. Even the studio room was big and comfortable. The design utilises the space so well that I never felt cramped. Everything is in good taste and of good quality: workmanship, furnishings, linen and utensils, finishes, etc. The garden is peaceful and well-kept, with a swimming pool. The service is personal and welcoming: David, proudly on call 24 hours per day, radiates a contagious sense of joy and Maya at reception is equally friendly, efficient and helpful. The location is very central, but in a quiet street and with good security. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.

Our awesome little roll in the haystack.

Looks can certainly be deceiving here, what looks like a plain and simple cottage on the outside is an amazingly designed studio garden apartment overlooking the pool and garden. It was really clean, comfortable and we had a great stay! David, the caretaker was extremely helpful and accommodating even though I was delayed and only arrived at 2am. I was extremely surprised at how much better this little oasis was than a conventional hotel. I will definitely be returning here. Thank you!

Nice relaxing home away from home

I stayed at the Haystack for one week and the staff were very friendly. You have a lot of privacy and a quiet setting for relaxation. The internet was OK, not great, but enough to keep me connected. The place is new so it's super clean and everything works great especially the aircon/heater. I would stay here again.

This is my home away from home in Joburg.Modern, well fitted rooms, comfy beds and linen, helpful staff - you actually feel like you are at home with caretakers and a housekeeper, and a fabulous hands on owner who comes to meet all his guests. Well priced, quiet area close to all amenities and 10 minutes drive from Sandton. Stay no place else in Joburg!

Great Hotel Good Value

The hotel is practically brand new. It is tastefully if not exquisitely decorated and furnished. It is roomy and the kitchenettes are furnished with all the things a traveler needs.
I loved the fact that they had electrical outlets for every country. The neighborhood is quite, safe and near Rivonia Village where you can find great restaurants and a good selection of shops.
The staff was very helpful and courteous. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would stay again. Ihighly recommend the hotel.

Tranquility in the City

This was a wonderful stay with exceptional friendly and hospitable staff. The surrounds are quiet and peaceful although not too far from business centre if you have your own vehicle. The room was very comfortable, clean and neat, Only complain I have is that the Spa is still not working but they offered to arrange a masseuse should we need one. No breakfast is included, but you can make your own. Will any time stay here again.
