Inflexible on an early checkout. Did not respond to requests for drinking water. Breakfast not included. Noisy fountain right outside my door turned on at 5 am and staff out there yelling and laughing while I tried to sleep. Just a badly managed hotel.

Overall ok. Noticed black scum marks in bathroom and not well maintained. Why wake up people at 8am to collect towels . Ask to leave them outside upon checkk instead. I ordered an old fashioned in the lounge and i was served a gin tonic like i did the day before. If the waiter had written the order then i would not have happened. Where is the training?

We were pretty disappointed. First, our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. I would have thought they would recognize this and at least air it out before putting guests in. Second, the safe didn't work. I called initially and was told maintenance left after10pm. Next morning I called back. They said they would come. Next afternoon I checked in at the front desk. They told me it was fixed, but it wasn't. I reported back it didn't work, but it never was fixed. The hair dryer cord was drilled through a drawer and was supposed to plugged into an outlet which had been ripped out of the wall. The only way to use the hair dryer was to take the drawer to another part of the room where there was a working plug. Finally it was Saturday night and there was a party in the ballroom. I would have thought they would have stopped the music at a reasonable time like 10pm but it was still blasting when we went to sleep around 10:30.

Terrible experience

First was the issue of wifi. We did not have internet connection in our room, we encountered costs to buy data which was not nice at all. Secondly the phones in the rooms were not working. They cited they were having maintenance working on the two issues but why not inform clients before they book we only got this information after we had paid for the accomodation. You can imagine going all the way to the reception to request or make an inquiry it was really daunting honestly. Generally theres noise at the hotel with so many disturbances in the morning. They did not have do not disturb stickers so every time housekeeping came by the door we had to wake up to answer which was frustrating

Luxury hostels with dorm amenities

This is not a four star property : Internet not working except the lobby area, room service out of most items on menu, air conditioning noisy, bedding quite uncomfortable, Shower pressure very slow, 2 pool chairs for 100 guests lol !! When i asked to speak to a manger, then i am told there is none. That explains everything. This a luxury hostel with south african service, slow, unefficient, not ready, and poorly trained. This property is combination of several buildings and is a real maze at night. No elevator. Good for a one night stay.

Great Sandton hotel

I stay at The Quatermain Hotel whenever I am in Johannesburg on business and have been doing so since 2015. It is central, easy access to Sandton CBD, the motorway as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. The staff are always friendly and the hotel is always clean. One of the great hotels.

I have stayed at the Quatermain Hotel on all of my business trips to Johannesburg since 2014 and have spent more than 100 nights at the hotel. The hotel consistently deliver a first class experience. Extremely friendly and helpful staff that go out of their way to assist, comfortable rooms and fantastic location.

Great Hotel

Just a comment on the television choices in the room. I wanted to watch the Six Nations Rugby but could not find a single rugby channel but yet there were at least 5 football channels (and one of them was duplicated) . I think management needs to review what DSTV channels are broadcast to the rooms. Maybe also look at reintroducing radio channels that used to be available in the rooms. Other than this, a wonderful hotel.

Worst Stay Ever

When i arrived found that they didn't bother to put a full roll of toilet paper in the bathroom and top up the spare holder either. The tube of hand lotion was almost empty and didn't bother to put a new one the next day even after they saw the empty one in the bin. There was no Tea or sugar in the holder. The housekeeping was bad. You would think that they would go the extra mile for their guests as the hotel was not full and where happy to see guests again. The worst part was being woken up about 4am with a couple in the next room having a full on fight. They were screaming, shouting, crying and banging things in the room. No one was there to do anything due to curfew so this went on for over hour and half before it stopped. No one from the hotel bothered to come to the another guests to apologies for the inconvenience of being waken up at 4am....wow what a stay.

Very Relaxing vibe, lovely garden with a very spacious suite. The only issue is that the walls are not very sound proof and you can often hear quite a lot from the other rooms. That being said, the place overall is very nice with lovely staff.

I arrived tired from an 18 hour flight and I was welcomed with wine and some tasty bites and within 5 minutes was in my room. The staff is friendly and courteous and went out of their way to make my stay pleasant. The chef makes excellent dishes at a reasonable price and the bartenders are personable and keep a well-stocked bar. The hotel is on a quiet safe street a couple of minutes from the Morningside Mall which has a variety of good restaurants should you decide to venture out one evening. I would definitely stay here again for business or pleasure.

Great value for money.
More vegetarian meal choices and clean tablecloths would improve restaurant but food was good, breakfast excellent and staff in second morning shift were highly attentive.
Excellent shuttle facility enabling free transport to Mandela Square but Slight mix up with the time we booked the shuttle meant we were stranded and took an hour to get back to hotel instead of ten mins - I suggest double checking times to ensure they have been entered correctly in hotel book.
Recommend more attention to cleaning bathroom door and skirting, getting stain off curtain and sheet (ink stain) but generally was clean and comfortable and everything really good!
Thanks for a very lovely stay ! Would come back again and recommend to friends.
Personalised trip to Johannesburg city, Soweto and museums with Nelson (hotel tour guide) was excellent and would highly recommend despite being more expensive than other avialabje options. He picked us up from hotel and dropped us off at airport which was extremely convenient. Lovely guy.
In summary, great two nights/3 days in Johannesburg!

Very comfortable hotel with large spacious rooms, I had one overlooking the small open-air pool. Air conn can be turned off is you don't want or need it.

Small gym, 1 rowing maching (water based), 1 tredmill, 1 bike and a cross-trainer, plus range of free weights - enought to give you the feeling you should do something but real fitness fanatics will be disapointed. It was fine for me.

Restaraunt (and bar) menu would be limitting if you were saying more than a couple of days. Thankfully the free shuttle bus in to the city will allow you to expand your horizons.

I'd stay there again, so that has to be a recommendation.

A nice slightly old fashioned hotel

Most of the upscale hotels for tourists are not in the city proper and many are in Sandton. Faircity Quartermain is a very comfortable attractive hotel that is warm and inviting--no modern steel and plastic. Brick, carpets, curtains, and a very inviting warm feeling. The food is excellent and the courtyard is very inviting to sit in. So is the lounge. You can walk to one nearby shopping center, but there is a shuttle that will take you there or to other locations. We arranged tours through the hotel and a lovely well-informed man named \"Life\" spent two good days with us. Be aware that service is not like in the US. Hotel had limited ability to make change. Staff in the bar were a bit slow-moving.
But I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone liking a relaxed setting. There is a pool, but it is in the courtyard, so some might not feel comfortable swimming there.

A wise and secure choice

This hotel is spacious. attractive and very well presented. The service was absolutely immaculate, in almost every way. The staff were helpful. positive and prompt. We only ate breakfast there; but it was first class. . The room was large, comfortable and fully-equipped. Overall, we would strongly recommend this hotel to everyone. The only criticism I can think of is that I had to get salt from another table.!!

Secure area, clean rooms. Carpets are a bit worn out though..Overall, not bad.
Older people or others with heavy baggage might not like it as there are several flights of stairs (at least to rooms 510-515 where I stayed). There is no elevator.

Very nice, spacious rooms, good soundproofing. Shuttle service very good, taking you to Sandton centre, and Gautrain station (connects with airport). Restaurant good, and staff very friendly and efficient. Negative point was the limited amount of lounger seating round the pool.

We spent 6 nights here at the end of our holiday, this is certainly a 4 star hotel, clean rooms with a decent size. It was great value for money. The only down side is the restaurant, where breakfast was a bit chaotic on some mornings. We are at the restaurant twice and on both occasions the service was slow (although as we were on holiday it didn't matter too much). Those are only small things as the staff were always friendly and made the stay even better. Can highly recommend this hotel if staying in the area :)
