The hotel is very good overall, but the room has a step at the entrance to the bathroom that becomes uncomfortable over time. Having to go up and down that step, especially during the night, puts strain on the knee joint.

The location of the hotel was really good. It was within walking distance to Kyoto Station (2-3 mins walk) and the Porta Dining area in the Station. There are a lot of malls close to the hotel if shopping is your thing.
The room was too small for two people. Being able to get on and off the bed from only one side was not ideal for less agile individuals. Perhaps this size room could be offered only as a single.
It was not as clean as other hotels I’ve stayed at.

I love this hotel! This is my second time staying here. The service is great! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the wifi is great! The location is also convenient from the Kyoto station or to walk to Nishiki Market or Gion. The breakfast is the best part: fast service and absolutely delicious food!

We arrived about 40 minutes before check in time 2:20pm and confirmed that we had arrived and had reservations. Even though we had the impression that the room was ready, the staff had us waiting until 3 pm and then processed 2 others who just come in at 3pm!
After sitting in front of the check in counter for 40 minutes 10 feet from the staff, we were then subjected to another 40 minutes to finalize our check in before being given the “key” to our room!
There was only one other person who checked in while we waited and the staff ignored us, doing nothing constructive until just after 3 pm when I asked to be checked in!
With 5 APA hotels within 3 or 4 blocks, we picked the worst one!
The room was so small that 2 people couldn’t even get past each other!
Of all the other APA hotels we stayed in and several other hotels, this was absolutely the worst one of all!!!!

I changed hotels midway through stay. I did not like this hotel. Never had pillows so uncomfortable, I couldn’t sleep. My room smelled of curry house downstairs. There was also political alt right propaganda in the hotel room. I then googled why this would be, the owner is a political activist for alt right so this hotel chain is politically allied. I did not like this as I’m an immigrant and have liberal values

The transportation options are great, as you can get to a bus stop without crossing a street, and Kyoto Station is a little over a block away.
Dining options are abundant. There is a restaurant on the first floor of the hotel. Kyoto Station also has numerous dining options, a lot of which are open later compared to a lot of places in Kyoto.
The bed large, especially for one person. I had enough room to store two, possibly 3 suitcases at the foot of the bed. The bathroom was nice and clean. I never once got any hint of cigarette smoke in the room, which is fantastic.
The staff are all very kind. Y. Ishida is a particularly stand out staff member. She helped me with what I needed with a smile on her face, and I never had any communication issues with her.
My only complaint was with the dryer in the laundry room. There are two washers and two dryers. The washer worked fine, but the right side dryer didn’t dry my clothes well at all, and it left a lot of leftover lint.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

A nice quiet hotel that’s out of the way from traffic and noise. The staff made check in and check out easy, even helping me out with figuring out where the amenities are. The room was also clean and not too cramped.

We stayed 5 nights here. Location excellent next to the main railway station, walking distance to many of the impressive sights of Kyoto. Condition immaculate, likewise any other APA hotels, plenty, and I mean it, plenty of free amenities. The staff super friendly, polite and well educated (that's hard to find the opposite in Japan anyway). Extremely helpful and so used to people arriving before check-in time that they have an excellent system to keep your luggage until you return and have a room, and impressively secure too. Nice comfy beds, generally larger than the Japanese standard for a double. But of course being Japan, size matters. Bedrooms are quite small, not to mention the bathroom. Nevertheless I've been to many APA in this trip and a previous one some years back, all are the same, and so are other hotel brands, so this is not a downside at all, it is the fact. The only downside at this property is the breakfast. Yes, I can imagine for a Japanese national must be great, cooked from fresh in the moment, however for an occidental person... we could not eat that in the morning. We missed at least some toasts and marmalade. Only the coffee/tea and juice was there for us to be honest. In any case, meters away you have a 7 Eleven, McDonalds and more where you can get some sandwiches and eat in the hotel's restaurant with the coffee and juice they provide, easy. So do not pay extra for the breakfast, it will be useless and a waste of money.

The lobby and counter service personnel are all great but things ain't quite the same when in the room. Air con/heater are centralised and it can get frustrating to get the comfortable temp in the room.like Winter at times one might not need the heater that much and the machine blows directly at the bed. I got nose bleeding from it cause air is too dry.
The room also has too much mirco fiber flying around in the air and i sneeze quite a bit from it. The pillow is very thin layer and neck ache after sleeping. Need to fold into half to sleep on it. Room has a lot of ads as well. Not coming back to APAfor sure.

I booked 3 APA Hotels for my trip to Japan in Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka. They were all very consistently good, even though the rooms are small. (they're all exactly the same size in each city, a bit smaller in Tokyo). Location and prices are reasonable (especially in Kyoto & Osaka) and once you expect to in your room only to drop off your bags and sleep then it's perfectly acceptable.
Americans are used to big rooms, but all of these are about the size of a cruise cabin (if you've been on a cruise then you can adjust your expectations accordingly).
The ONE thing that I think they could improve that would keep us Westerners happy is better pillows! (Big & fluffy) - I'd even be willing to pay a couple of extra bucks to rent one for my stay. The beds are comfortable, but I have no idea how people sleep with flat pillows.
Aside from that, I recommend these hotel chains. They are exactly the same across all cities so its nice to have no surprises.
