I had a wonderful stay at APA Hotel Kyoto Eki Horikawadori, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The location is incredibly convenient—just a short walk from Kyoto Station—which made getting around the city effortless, whether for sightseeing or day trips.

The room, while compact as is typical in Japan, was impeccably clean, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable. Every detail felt intentional, from the quality bedding to the efficient use of space. It provided everything I needed for a relaxing and restful stay after long days exploring Kyoto.

One of the highlights was the on-site public bath (onsen), which was the perfect way to unwind in the evening. It added a special touch to the experience and made the stay feel more like a retreat than just a hotel visit.

The staff were courteous, professional, and always ready to assist. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient, and I appreciated how well everything was organized.

Overall, APA Hotel Kyoto Eki Horikawadori offers excellent value for money, combining comfort, convenience, and a touch of traditional Japanese hospitality. I would absolutely stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.

Hotel was nice and well-maintained. Entrance had steps and no ramp, if that matters to you. The staff were helpful. The room and bathroom were clean. Both a little on the smaller end if you prefer more space. The location was incredible - next door to 711 and a quick walk from Kyoto Stn. They also had an onsen which I didn’t use but appeared to be popular. Would definitely recommend!

Staff is great. Fairly decent with English. Enough to not need a translator. But very helpful. Rooms are extremely small, even for Japan. Onsen is very nice for a hotel. Just bathe there, it's easier. Convenient store 7-11 basically is connected, that's convenient. Lol. Breakfast is calories.

The hotel rooms are terrible, so small my husband had to jump on my side to get into bed. We asked for a smoking room, it reeked . I totally understand that smoke does smell but this one was not well ventillated everything smelled so bad even as a smoker

Great location, close to Kyoto station and Aeon mall. Coin laundry can be a little tricky as they only have 3 small machines, good enough for under garments. Prepay for breakfast. Rooms are small in size but that is Apa’s contribution to the environment. Just enough to shower, sleep and washroom. Otherwise great hotel.

APA is a great hotel. My only complaint is the room is so small that there isn’t much room to put your luggage. They have space for under the bed storage but if you have large luggage it doesn’t fit under the bed so you end up very crowded and have to move around luggage. The breakfast was delicious and very convenient to have available to us.

We have used APA Hotels frequently and in general we have been very pleased with the service and the facilities. However, the Kyoto Eki Horikawadori did not live up to my previous expectations of APA hotels. First, the size of the bathrooms in the rooms were excessively small and extremely uncomfortable to use for anyone taller that 5 feet & 5 inches or 165.1 cm. This was very poor planning. Second, during our stay, the wife of my cousin who was staying with us needed a little extra space in order to do some exercises that her doctor had recommended. She did them in the evening in a remote part of the hallway, doing her best to ensure that she did not inconvenience anyone. As far as we know, no one complained or even noticed, but one of your staff was extremely rude and insisted that she not do the exercises in the hallway and even threatened to have her evicted. We feel that the attitude of the employee was very inappropriate and showed no understanding of the situation. Hence, our rating of this APA hotel is barely adequate.

The location is fantastic! Only 5-10 minutes away from Kyoto station and walking distance to most shopping centres and food courts. Good breakfast and Japanese bath is a bonus. The standard room size is very small, so make sure you book a larger room if space is an issue for you.

Getting a receipt showing the breakdown of each night stay seemed very difficult for the hotel to provide. I needed it for my work but they could only provide it after I’d checked out. As I was staying 8 nights my work required all receipts within 3 days which caused me some difficulty. I wouldn’t stay here again for a few reasons including the receipt issue, centrally controlled heating and noisey street traffic from my open window during the night.

I’ve stayed at this property many times. I love the rooftop outdoor onsen however due to the central heating being centrally controlled the room is too hot so I had to sleep with the window open. I couldn’t sleep at all due to traffic going past on a busy road. This aside my biggest disappointment is the lack of assistance with my baggage for the airport. The previous time I stayed the staff very reluctantly assisted and I vowed never to stay there again because of their attitude but over time my memory faded and I stated there again. This time when I checked in I noticed a Sagawa desk by the reception which was open 7-12 each day so I assumed due to the over tourism in Kyoto the hotel had introduced this service to remove the luggage burden from them, however when I went to use it I was told they don’t handle luggage for the airport and to see the reception. The reception said they don’t handle it and told me to go to the 7/11, the 7/11 told me to go to Lawson, Lawson told me to go to the Yamato office. Once I found the Yamato office there was a 45 minute line up of tourists all trying to send their bags to the airport. This all took about an hour to sort out while dragging two bags around. I won’t stay at this property again as other hotels still assist with luggage and I find this service very useful and have come to rely on it .

The room was not clean completely. There was a candy wrapper that was missed by the staff.
Air quality was not great due to lack of ventilation. With the hot and higher humidity beginning of NOV was recommend to open window to cool down room.

Room is small for two travelers with 4 suitcases. A bit of maneuvering to access suitcases. Comfortable enough of a stay. Safe and close to Kyoto station for quick travel. Front desk customer service is 5/5 very helpful and polite when addressing questions and concerns. Would recommend.

The room was spotless and they have conistent cleaning for those that ask,I loved every minute in this hotel, get the breakfast option trust me! Being just a few minutes away from Kyoto station is awesome! The staff genuinely care and try to make sure everything goes swimmingly! My check in I was completely lost but the desk literally had seen my name before and were prepared for me! Thats service! Also if you lose you hotel key its ridiculously easy to get a replacement when i visit again ill be booking through APA!!

The only issue is the dryers in the laundry take a very long time to dry a load (1.5 hours). Also the lack of a change machine in the laundry room (you have to go the the front desk to get change).

this was my third APA stay in Japan and second nicest of the three. the first one I stayed at barely had any room to move and this one is huge and a perfect little spot to sleep and decompress for the night. The Little cafe downstairs was really nice buffet style and quiet with lots of people from different countries visiting. There is 1 or 2 other hotels in the area and the staff at the other APA Hotel got me to the right place. great place to stay

The location is good as it's a short walk from Kyoto station. But the bathroom smelled of drainage and it wasn't very nice..
Also, my room was at the corner and I couldn't sleep well because of the noise from outside (even the noise of winds!) and room next to mine. I could hear person moving in the room next to me. They weren't shouting or anything but I could still hear them doing something almost like the room was connected :(

The staff provided fresh towels along with coffee and tea and cups every single day. The staff was also very helpful. Overall, thr hotel was good but it was extremely humid inside our room so much so that our blankets and clothes eere damped every day. This situation made for a very uncomfortable stay. Unfortunately, the air conditioner did not help with this matter.

It’s very convenient that is next to Tokyo Station, makes it easy to get around. I did not used the Onsen, so paid for something I did not used. Clean, some of the staff is very friendly while others just ok. Didn’t do the breakfast or dinner. Many places outside to select it. They ah e bending machines there n the 7/11 is next door.

This hotel is such great value for your money. I've also stayed in this chain hotel in Tokyo. It is very clean with comfortable beds and good wifi connection. They provide more amenities they similar American chain hotels. They are also located in popular tourist areas and close to public transportation. The double rooms are very compact. As a solo traveler I have found them to be comfortable.

When booking at APA make sure you know the exact address where to go for check-in as APA is a chain of hotels and find the right one can be tricky. You can leave your luggage with them after check-out with no extra charge. Overall stay at this hotel was exceptional in all means. The hotel has Money Exchange booth.

I have stayed in a few of these APA hotels, I feel for the money compared to sone other hotel brands i have stayed with these. The APA brand is started to fall behind. This hotel inparticular felt dated. The rooms have 0 noise cancellation. You can hear the TV from the nextdoor room. Any noise made in the hallway you can hear. The room itself could do woth a deep clean.

I feel the mattresses need to be rotated as the mattress was on an angle and I felt I was rolling out of it all night. I’m guessing as it was a single room with the mattress up against the wall that the one side is sat on and slept on causing this uneven wear. I always have problems with Takyubin at this hotel too. It’s time consuming and staff never seem sure of what they’re doing. In addition to this my work sent a letter to the hotel prior to my check in. The hotel rang my work telling them I had no booking which caused confusion and stress. After I provided the booking number they located the booking but involving my work caused some embarrassment for me.

This was my 3rd APA Hotel on a 2 week holiday to Japan. The previous two were of a high standard. In this one the room layout was bizarre and left very little space as there was no way to store the suitcase under the bed. You also could not use the desk due to the direction that the bed was placed.

APA Hotel Eki Horikawadori rooms seemed smaller than other Japanese hotels. It was amazing how everything fit just perfectly in the room.
