The room was OK, but the cleaning job could be better.The bathroom tub had black mold in the corner. It was unpleasant. We had only one bath towel for the two of us. The balcony offered a nice view. You will enjoy birds chirping in the morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool wasn't heated and the water was cold. The restaurant prices are very reasonable and the food was good. We also like the location right across the Nubian Museum. We spent half a day there.

Nice older hotel with a beautiful view of both city and river. Ideal location, walking distance to Nubian Museum and ferries to Elephantine island. Friendly staff, welcoming and providing great recommendations with a smile (thank you Miriam at front desk) We had à la carte dinner- the juiciest tender chicken pieces in shish tawouk and fatty. Daily free breakfast buffet is epic- with fresh food, omelette station and the wide variety of breakfast pastries, yogurts, accompaniments. WiFi could be stronger in the rooms, works fine in the lobby area.

The staff was kind and generally very helpful. They know and understand that most guests are there to see ancient Egyptian sites and to have a relaxing time. The room was fine... wouldn't say incredible, but clean and comfortable. However, the hotel itself is perched on top of a nice hill so you get a great view of the city, and it's fun to walk around with the views, poolside, restaurant, lobby, etc.

The hotel needs a complete refurbishment. The bathroom and furniture are 30 years old!
It looks more as a 3 stars than 4.
The food both at the breakfast and room service is not good either.

The hotel ameneties and room is great. The staff is not friendly at all we had to carry the luggage inside the hotel. No information given about restaurant or food available. Also We had to ask about breakfast because we had to leave early they pack breakfast for us but also we had to ask. We put a sing to make our room since 4 am because we left for our tour and we came back at 4 afternoon and the room was still not ready i had to go ask a lady in the hall way she make the bed really fast and even left behind the plates and stuff from the date before and take the towels and never bring new ones so we had to again go out and ask for towels.

This is a very nice hotel! The staff was incredibly helpful and allowed me to check in quite early. My room had a huge balcony and a great view of the city and the river. Special thanks to Guest Relations Manager Reham, who made transportation arrangements, gave me tips for walking around the city, and treated me like a king. Highly recommended!

Originally we were assigned a room that was below the category we had booked, but the next day were moved to a better one. Except for the terrace the room and the common areas were clean. The breakfast buffet offered great variety and the restaurant, both the buffet and the a la carte was reasonable. Special thanks to Reham who made us feel welcome and at home.

I didn’t have high hopes for this hotel based on the reviews so overall I wasn’t surprised or disappointed. We ended up staying here because our first choice was sold out. The breakfast buffet was really bad… the worst of our entire trip to Egypt. Our room was dated and we ended up with two twin beds. There is not a lot of food in the area when we asked the hotels for recommendations they said they only recommended this TGI Fridays rip off called makinis which was sub par but better than the hotel dinner buffet we had the day before. The prices for beer are good but other than that just be prepared for a dated hotel.

We booked and paid extra for Nile River view. We were give one nice upgraded room, but second room was all the to the other side of the building without Nile River view.

Guest relation manager Reham had contacted us prior to our visit to ensure that any of our special requests could be accommodated.
Maria was very helpful at check-in and offered us a complimentary upgrade and even arranged for a cake to celebrate our son's birthday.
The location of the property on the top of the hill was quite unique and gave a view of the unfinished obelisk and the Nile, with good sunrise/sunset view.
Would definitely recommend this property.

In addition to being a nice place to stay (we stayed there in 2019, and 2024), we love all the artwork in the building and on the grounds--the sculptures and the mosaics and stained glass. NEVER remove them in the name of Modernism. Keep them! They give the hotel a timeless elegance. Also, thank you for relighting your neon sign on the roof, and using the original neon tubing where possible, rather than LEDs which rot in the sun over time, whereas neon is glass, and made by hand. I restore vintage neon signs here in the US, and they are a wonderful craft!

The Hotel Basma was a lovely place to stay in Aswan. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. They helped me arrange tours to Philae Temple and Abu Simbel. They made sure everything went as smoothly as possible. The room was nice and had everything I needed. The views of the Nile from the balcony was the best.

Nice, resort like hotel overlooking the Nile River. The view from the room was spectacular. Rooms are large, clean, cool and very comfortable. The staff is very polite and helpful. The Nubian museum is right across the street and the Old Cataract Hotel and the port are only a seven minute walk from the hotel. In addition, the hotel can arrange transportation to and from Aswan airport for a reasonable fee. We wish we had stayed longer, it was extremely relaxing and enjoyable.

Friendly Hotel

This is a very good-looking hotel on top of a hill with extraordinary views over the Nile and beyond. There is a tasty breakfast, and wonderful buffets for lunch and dinner.
I had a difficulty and this was fixed with an upgraded room and a smile.
There are 2 sign posted bars near the entrance, but both were closed. There was also a bar in the restaurant which I used one evening, but it is lacking in character, even although the staff are great. I suspect the two bars are open as low season comes to an end. As a solo traveller, this would normally be the place I would meet somebody.
The location is great. It is within walking distance of the promenade (corniche) and the markets if you'd like a good long stroll. The Nubian Museum is opposite and the unfinished obelisk is also within walking distance.
I certainly would consider returning should I be in Aswan again.

Ok, overall. For a short stay, shoukd be sufficient. A/C was pretty weak as well as no TV service. Elevators also pretty scary on if they would work once we entered. Restaurant was ok, decent food but buffet like everywhere else. Wish we coukd have experienced pool, looked great.

Drainage of the bathtube needs to be checked by housekeeping to make sure it works properly. In our case we removed a lot of heair to drain it properly. Otherwise, excellent.

Accommodating but less in professionalism

The location and view is great. Staff can be trained to the next level of professionalism compared to the other hotels I have stayed. At the checkout, the guy was so busy so even say thank you. Just handed me a print out and start talking to someone else. When I asked for an envelop , he just gave me one. There were other incidents as well…
Rooms are a little out dated.
Food was good but the cutleries, plates and the buffet area doesn’t meet the high standards.

Contacted the hotel and they said construction was finished and when we arrived it was evidently not finished.
Finger prints on drinking glasses, no coffee mugs, kettle was dirty, stained sink, toilet and bathtub, no hot water.
Food was not fresh, buffet was still plastic wrapped, staff was touching everything with bare hands when organizing the breads and deserts.
Internet was very spotty. Cannot make international phone calls from the hotel phone.

Uncomfortable Stay!! 1 Star Hotel at best

This is not a 4 star hotel!! We were looking forward to getting a good night sleep after a long day trip and to our demise, the bed was hard as a rock!! Not to mention we had boulders as pillows. The hotel does not have queen beds so they put two single beds together just to have an awkward canyon in between my wife and I. There was not hot water for a shower and the power went out around midnight when we noticed the AC was off. I can’t emphasize enough to stay away from this hotel and go elsewhere for a comfortable stay.

This was a great stay at Basma Hotel Aswan. Check in was smooth, and contrast to other reviews our booking through expedia was recieved fine, with all requested extras fufilled. Lobby is manned 24/7 so our 3am check out was easy. The room was fine, for what you pay for we had no complaints. We got toiletries everyday the room was re-freshed/ cleaned well every day. We got a welcome drink and plate of food. Tea and coffee packets in the room and bottled water everyday. The wifi was good in rooms and shared areas. Pool was good, towels provided and beds comfortable. This area could of been cleaner, with the toilets here needing attention. This hotel has a great view of Aswan and the Nile. Its on a hill near the Cataract hotel. A good climb/ walk everyday into the town, about 30 mins to be central. The breakfast was good, buffet, could of done with more variety but we didnt go hungry. Staff are attentive and friendly. For the price point i would reccomend for a cheap and cheerful stay.

Not Worth The Price

I recently stayed at this hotel and was extremely disappointed by the check-in experience. The check-in time was clearly stated as 2pm, and I arrived at the hotel at 3pm, expecting a smooth process. However, my expectations were far from met.

After completing all the necessary paperwork, I was asked to wait in the lobby for my room assignment. 30 long minutes passed, and I decided to approach a receptionist for an update. To my surprise, the receptionist responded with a curt \"Sorry\" and walked away without offering any further information. I had been initially attended to in English, so language wasn't a barrier here.

Frustrated by the lack of communication, I approached another receptionist and inquired about the delay. She informed me that I would need to wait for another 20 minutes as the housekeeping staff were occupied. This was a considerable inconvenience, as I had to cancel a scheduled ticket collection appointment due to the delay.

To make matters worse, when I finally checked into my room around 4pm, I discovered that I had been given two separate single beds instead of the queen bed I had requested. The beds could have been placed together.

The only bright spot in my stay here was a receptionist helped to arrange a taxi for me during check-out.

In conclusion, this accommodation does not worth the high price paid given the extreme delay in check-in, room assignment mishap, terrible customer service and average room condition.

It is a very beautiful hotel in a great setting. The room was nice, spacious, clean. Staff who did the rooms failed to bring towels and a bath mat on a regular basis. Breakfast (included in the room rate), was good and we enjoyed the outdoors seating, with views of the river and their gorgeous swimming pool. I wouldn't recommend dining there. Meals were not very tasty, and didn't meet the menu's description. Having said that I didn't find any restaurants in Aswan that I would recommend. At check-out, they tried to charge US$89, which we did not owe!

It was fine - a bit overpriced for the rooms but the service was wonderful. A few weird things in the shower (the head kept falling off), the floor in the room was pretty dirty, and the AC/cooling system was terrible. The use very firm memory foam mattresses which probably work well for some people. Easy to walk to/from, the staff were great and helped with an early check in and late check out, arranging a guide and airport transfer.

Initially I felt the hotel was dated, a bit dark and could do with an update and a thorough clean. But in saying that, I was met with friendly staff. I was here 3 nights so starting feeling quite comfortable.
Breakfast was sufficient, not a huge variety. Room was spacious with a lovely view of the Nile and city.
If you’re after luxury, then book at the higher end hotels, if you’re looking for comfort, then this is it.

Always nice to come back to this Hotel over the years. The location is amazing, and views are equally amazing. Food is very tasty particularly if you prefer Mediterranean diet. One issue is heating switch is manual not on a thermostat. Otherwise the stay was very pleasant.

The property itself was pretty good. As the nights were cold, I wanted to use the heat in my room which didn't work. I informed the front desk and they were supposed to send maintenance to fix it. That never happened. Had to call at night after coming back from a trip. Maintenance guy shows up and tried to tell that there is no heater in any of the rooms. Took him to my friends nice toasty warm room and pointed out that heaters are part of the AC system. Dude looked at me completely bewildered and left...never saw him after that and never got my heat fixed.

We got off a cruise ship, went to Abu Simbal and were dropped off at the hotel around 1. We were able to check in early, have lunch at the hotel restaurant and immediately go to the Nubian Museum, and the 2-3 hours was perfect for the museum (which was a 5 minute walk down the hill). In the evening, my daughter tried the pool but decided it was too cold (it was Dec 30, 2020) so they went to the room and I played on my phone while enjoying the view from the restaurant area.

In the morning, we had the hotel breakfast (which had a decent selection of hot and cold options). Then I packed while my wife took a Careem (like Uber) to the shopping area near where the cruise ships dock. We considered going to the Nubian Village before our 3 pm flight, but decided to take it easy.

The room itself was fine, although the beds were small. We never got a 3rd bed (roll out or otherwise) for our daughter and she had to share with my wife. I found the door handles to be unusual and difficult to close, but the hotel was nearly empty anyway so we were not worried. It uses an old fashioned key.

There is no WiFi in the room. Make sure to keep this noted. And public WiFi speed is also abysmal. You should just assume that this hotel does not have any WiFi.

It’s a nice hotel in a great location. The pool area and views of the Nile are fantastic. The staff was very attentive and helpful. It would be nice if they had WiFi in the rooms and the lobby/restaurants.

The staff at this hotel was wonderful, specifically Febronia, who went above and beyond to help us out and make us feel at home. The lobby is unique and beautiful, the breakfast was wonderful, and the views from the hotel are awesome.

The property was set high up on the city and had a great view of the Nile. With a great swimming pool. The one thing that I say was bothering me was the lack of internet service there was practically none.

The view overlooking and beyond the pool is excellent. Location is great. Virtually across the street from the Nubian Museum (worth a visit) and an easy walk to the Nile. Buffet breakfast and dinner were subpar. Excellent front desk staff and tour service. Large, comfortable room and bathroom. Clean, but showing its age.

Basma was easily the WORST EXPERIENCE in our entire Egypt tour. Being in a service industry, hotels are supposed to deliver on customer experience & Basma failed on such a grand scale. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT VISITING THIS HOTEL.
We reached the hotel after an early morning flight & while we had asked for an early checkin, we weren't provided one, which is fine, as the rooms probably weren't available. But everything after that was ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY. On asking when can we expect the room to be ready, we were told it'd be ready in 15 mins. When did we get our room? After 1.5 hours. Each time we asked the staff how much longer, they'd insist that the room would be ready in 15 mins. UNPROFESSIONAL.
Little did we know, that was only the start of multiple ordeals. At the time of checkin, we were told that we would have to pay more for our room, because we were not Egyptians & the prices mentioned at the booking site, were applicable only for Egyptians. (All prices listed on the site were for Egyptians only). Now we have traveled multiple places, across different countries, and NOWHERE have we seen hotels charge separate for locals. Reluctantly accepted & decided to go to our room. The staff did not even have the basic courtesy to tell anything about the hotel.
The room we got was even worse. The bathroom was stinking, the main door didnt lock & worst of all, despite saying they provide Free WiFi, we didnt get WiFi in rooms & it is provided only at the reception. PATHETIC
