Loved the free tour to Agatha's suite and sunset view across the Nile from my balcony. Yummy snacks and incredible chandelier in my room. Having a bath was divine. Do it at least once!

Iconic place filled with historical and majestic vibes. Everything was great. Food was delicious. The piano player at 1902 restaurant at dinner was phenomenal playing um Kalthoum and other classic Arabic music. Really memorable. The staff is polite and extra kind and gracious.
The wooden stairs were not so clean and had webs at some corners.

This is a most luxurious hotel with large rooms with balconies, huge bath. And the bed is the softest--like sleeping on a cloud. Love the public spaces. A gem to be found in Aswan on the Nile.
The food was only ok. But the service was great. We had the most expensive martini I have ever had at the bar! $42!
But I would still return if in Aswan.

Magical setting right on the Nile! Beautiful and historic building, fabulous swimming pool and spa for relaxing (highly recommend Donya at the spa for massages and body scrub), fantastic restaurants (3), and the staff was so friendly and attentive. We spent New Year’s Eve and 6 days before on the property and it was a magical vacation. Visits of historic sites in the mornings and then relaxing by the pool in the afternoons. Perfect vacation

My wife and I stayed at this Historical hotel so look over the Niles, to experience a part of history, and also to enjoy a bit of luxury in a classy way. This hotel meets all of our expectation. About the only negative thing is that's a bit far from the airport, and haggling with the local taxi driver requires way too much effort.

Beautiful room with incredible view. Marina from Guest Relations was fabulous, organised a special cake for my husbands birthday which was most appreciated. Housekeeping and room service staff were lovely and helpful. Fabulous service from the bar staff. Gorgeous hotel full of history and beautifully renovated. We will definitely be back.

We had multiple bookings for this property and both were great. Our first was in the original building with a garden view. The rooms are older but very well maintained so they don't feel old or dated in any way, plus they are quite large. Staying in this building is very convenient for dining as all the restaurants but the Egyptian grill are here including the breakfast buffet. Our second booking had us in the newer building with a Nile view. This room was amazing, pretty much apartment size and the balcony was quite large with AMAZING views of the Nile and sunset. Of the two I would definitely choose the newer building rooms as my favorite but both were great. Staff at the hotel were fantastic. Breakfast was delicious but doesn't have any serving stations like a buffet, so no eggs. Dinners were just okay. Their food seems to cater to elderly British tastes. The best of the restaurants was the Egyptian one at the newer building. All that said the stay was amazing and by far the best hotel in Aswan.

This hotel is an oasis in the middle of a chaotic area on the Nile. I can't say enough good things about this hotel and it's staff. This is a top notch place to stay exceeding all of my expectations. The location is terrific, the rooms are oversized in the new wing, and boats are docked right at the hotel for taxi rides up the river. The ambiance is romantic and relaxing, with a spa on site. I will return to this one!

The Old Cataract is pricey but so lovely. The history of the place adds to the charm and sense of going back in time. The rooms we had were beautiful and huge. The staff is friendly and helpful, though we did have a few issues with service at the restaurants. I believe it was more a language issue than anything else though.
We loved our stay here and highly recommend the splurge!

Hotel Is Beautiful, Service Is Inconsistent

First, I'd have to say that the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract is just a beautiful hotel. Maybe the best views in all of Aswan. With that being said, the service and experience was not 5-star. Check-in was a bit awkward. I was working remotely during my stay and the wi-fi was inconsistent, the child seats need to be replaced and some meals were flavorless. Overall, some of the staff just need better training and general ettiqutte to work within the tourism industry. Some staff assumed that because we could \"pass as local\", or, don't look like their typical guests they serve, that that somehow invalidated our right to a 5-star experience. It hurts because you see other guests who look different receiving 5-star service that matches thr aesthetic of the hotel. I do commend management for trying to resolve some issues we had, because they did to a degree. We even got complimentary 5 hour extension on our stay and dinner was covered on the 3rd night. However, in the unlikely event that we return to Egypt, it won't be at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract.

Terrible Food/Service, Sofital Legend Old Cataract

The food & service at The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel, Aswan, Egypt was poor. We arrived after a long day of travel not having eaten. We ordered a margharita pizza. It came not cooked fully, dough with melted cheese. The other food was terrible and then the servers did not come back to the table with the bill. We had to go to the counter adjacent the pool to ask for the bill.

Had a fabulous holiday staying at the old cataract, this hotel was recommended by my travel agency (Go Luxor Tours) and i couldn't be any happier! Great friendly staff, fast check in process, good food and AMAZING Nile view from the new wing! it was my dream watching the Nile from my balcony and i couldn't ask for a better view I toured Egypt (Cairo, Luxor and Aswan) with a local agency called Go Luxor Tours (www.goluxortours.com), they were very efficient, punctual and always on time, brand new cars with great ac (which is a must in Egypt's hot weather) and friendly guides who speak fluent English! Ask for Mike's help and organization...it will be your best holiday ever because of him. Thanks guys for such fabulous, unforgettable holiday!

Beautiful property in a dreamy location

It is a gorgeous hotel in a gorgeous setting. Our suite was huge and the staff is very attentive. My only criticism is that similar to the other Sofitel hotel we stayed in Egypt (in Luxor) the food was just not as good as one would expect from a top notch hotel. Hope Sofitel does something about this.

Very disappointed with check in process. Went with my 11 year old daughter (who has a different last name than me) and would only let me check in once I provided proof of paternity. Claimed their laws wouldn’t allow me to check in without that proof when every other hotel in Egypt didn’t even mention it or seemed to care.

Everything was amazing!
The location, the food , the service were all great.
But most of all the staff, they were amazing. Especially in “The Kababgy Restaurant .” I can’t say enough. They made us feel like home and made us the food that we were craving. They were all so kind and generous.
I was feeling sick with a sore throat and they all went to great extent to make me feel better. In the hotel and the restaurant, they were just amazing. Thank you so much for this memorable trip. We will definitely come back and visit.

This is one of the finest hotels in the world. The old building is dripping with history and the Nile Wing has one of the best views on the planet. The service is old-world and the grounds are magnificent. Breakfast is under the palm trees, high tea is served on the famous veranda. The 1902 Restaurant is spectacular. Do not stay anywhere else in Aswan! The Old Cataract is a destination unto itself. The ghosts of Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie roam the halls...

It is so beautiful. Was sorry we were just spending one night. I would definitely return for a future vacation. Very nice comfortable large rooms overlooking the Nile. Didn't have the opportunity to swim in the pool,but it felt nice and warm and lovely setting. Meals and drinks were costly by Egyptian standards but comparable to US. Grounds were incredible and very clean.

Five star+ room, spectacular view of the Nile, beautiful grounds, an excellent staff, good location, and good food combines to make this the best hotel I have visited in 30 years of business and personal travel. Frankly, calling this a five star hotel is like calling the New England Patriots an excellent football team. This hotel stands out even when compared to the very best.

Everything about the Hotel was excellent with the exception of our meal at the 1902 Restaurant. Both of our entrees were very disappointing. The texture of our sea bass was mushy and the veal was overdone. Other than the meal we would highly recommend.

Marvelous!!!

Full of old world charm but with all the comforts of modern living. Our suite had the most amazing view of the Nile and was beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable (and romantic) bed and spacious bathroom (loved the toiletries!). Breakfast was varied and delicious, as was lunch, but the icing on the cake (literally!) was my birthday dinner at 1902, one of the most striking restaurants I've ever seen! We will certainly be back and highly recommend Old Cataract!

The hotel staff warmly greeted us upon our arrival and upgraded us to a huge suite fit for a sheik with 270 degree views of the Nile, expansive wardrobe areas, marble bath with freestanding soaking tub, and huge terrace. And as if the upgrade wasn’t enough, the staff sent fresh flowers, fruit platter, and pastries. During our stay, we found warm and attentive service in the restaurants, spa, and bar. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy an evening cocktail in the classic bar where Agatha Christie’s writing desk occupies a space in the corner.

The property has the most amazing view of the Nile, and the grounds arejust magnificent. It is everything you could hope for. Our room had views up and down the Nile, and it is an amazing experience to sit on the balcony and watch the river and the landscapes beyond. However, for a reason that was never clear, we were made to sit near reception for 30 minutes when we waited to check in. We had a dinner reservation, which was confirmed in writing, but the restaurant did not know about it when we arrived and we had to wait again. The menu at the terrace was fairly pedestrian with few choices for a hotel at this level. Overall, a good hotel, but not great at this stage.

This is an amazing hotel. It is perfect for an older age client. I have stayed at the Shanghai La Bangkok and The Atlantis Palm in the last 14 months and the staff at the cataract were equal or better. I am a privately funded individual and it must be said my bill at the end of stay was a fraction of the other two hotels mentioned.
Only doing this review because the hotel was so excellent the perfect place to relax for a few days. Outside the charmed walls of this hotel life is very hard and the people are poor and will hassle you.
