When we got there we were told there is no in room dining and there is no food available between 3.00 and 7.00pm and we had reached the hotel after a 6 hour journey. This is a first 5 star hotel I have seen that has no room service.I had paid in full in advance and yet I left the hotel and checked into a nearby hotel and no refund was given.

One of my friends who had been to Kerala years back and actually had stayed at the Taj recommended that I check Coconut Lagoon out cause she remembered the place leaving quite an impression on her back then.

There are some places that have the potential to remain etched in your memory and this experience that I got to share with my mom is one of those! We went for a week in August. Coconut Lagoon is one place to gather some exquisite local experience along with luxurious comfort that CGH Earth promises and did indeed deliver.

It was a last-minute trip so I wanted to pick a place where we could have a good time and the folks at Coconut Lagoon really went an extra mile! It felt like they always had our backs while we were there (and despite the crazy rainy weather). It is described as a ‘treasure in the backwaters of Kerala’ and honestly that did not feel exaggerated from our experience. We had booked the Heritage Bungalow and got an amazing view of the backwaters where in the evenings, we could sit and enjoy a tea ritual, soaking in the serene nature all around us. You get to see eagles (& all their antics!), kingfisher, and all these other birds without even going anywhere! The entire property is very carefully designed to preserve elements of the local environment rather than making it stand out like a sore thumb like how some luxury resorts do. Other resorts could learn a thing or two from their sustainable tourism efforts. Loved it!

Serene experience is the only other name to the stay.
Property is amazing with all the natural resources, rooms, amenities etc.
Ayurveda center, shop, restaurant equally wonderful to the room. We had got the back water view. I would like to mention bathroom. I had never experienced open to air bathroom with a tree inside. I loved the experience.

Coconut Lagoon has a beautiful setting with the lake and canals as a backdrop. The rooms are traditional and made of heritage Keralan wood. The ambience is peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are clean and tidy with an open top bathroom which has a banana tree. The only snag is in summer it gets very hot and it would be good for guests to have a fan inside the bathroom. There are plenty of activities to choose from and excellent restaurants. It would be good to also have Keralan desserts. Evening entertainment is musical or classical dancing which was superb.

Excellent location and services. Staff is very humble and helpful. Must visit if you are planning Kumarakom. Being a CGHEarth property, they support responsible tourism and is serene and plastic free land.
But the food at the resort is overpriced, so try to get the full board package and not custom order. The seafood restaurant serves great food too, but again it is also overpriced. Karimeen is a must eat fish there.

Also, absolutely avoid their Ayurvedic massages, uselessly priced and not worth the cost at all. The doctor at the ayurvedic centre asks to club 2-3 services while they all end up being the same.

Missing "Customer Delight"

Having stayed in a nearby resort few years ago which currently is ranked lower than Coconut Lagoon, we expected much more from this property, but were a bit disappointed that it did not meet our expectations. What gives a property in this segment over their competitors is the quality of food and the service; in both fronts CL need to do some work in order to be able to retain their current ranking.

Watch out for open showers

I had booked this for my elderly parents as a part of their kerela break

The pics they sent us while they were there were amazing

The stories they recounted about the wonderful service were really heartwarming. I was really patting myself on my back that I called right while booking a place on reputation alone without having visited the place

However , this morning my 65 year mom told me an incident which has brought this whole impression crashing down. When shown the open bathroom at checkin , she asked the staff if it was safe and was reassured by them. When she went for a shower 10-15 minutes she saw a person working atop a tree with direct view of her shower in room 210. They called the reception who did apologize and asked the concerned person to stop working

However, in my books this lapse is appalling and unpardonable

I would not visit again despite its excellence

One of the best getaways..

The hotel was amazing. It is one of the most beautiful properties i have been to . Its lush green and very well managed with all desired facilities.
The rooms are very well maintained , the place is situated right next to the lake which makes it breathtaking. You can wake up to amazing view of the lake.
One of the most amazing thing about the resort is their Eco-friendliness. The whole place is plastic free zone and the hotel is making every effort to keep it that way.
The staff was another thing that impressed me the most. Everyone is extremely helpful and always smiling and ready to help .
The place is totally worth it , value for money. This is perfect getaway if you are looking for disconnecting from the technology (since they dont have tv or internet in the room) and connecting with your self and your loved one's. The resort has various activities to engage you throughout the day. We spent 3 nights and we felt it was lesser . This place is clearly my most fav holiday destination.
The food was good too. They have variety of food ranging from Kerala specialties to north Indian dishes to non-veg dishes.
Overall,a great experience.

Great if you want to relax!!

We picked the Eco friendly Coconut Lagoon after researching reviews of hotels for some time.
We travelled from Cochin to Kumarakom ( approx 2 hr drive and Rs2000-approx £20) and arrived at the hotel by boat. We received a lovely welcome, with a gentleman playing a flute and each guest was given a flower.
Our room was clean and spacious, and an extra bed had been already set up as requested.
We loved the outdoor bathroom. The shower was amazing.
The wi-fi is free, and was available in our room.
There was no TV in the room, but there is a recreation room, where access to a TV is possible. There are numerous activities available....yoga, meditation, and there is a lovely pool area.
There is a lovely little shop where you can buy gifts
Both my children had a massage, but be warned, it's not for the faint hearted, and isn't the same as a massage back home!
We had planned to organize a night on a houseboat, but the hotels houseboat was unavailable, and when a member of staff made further enquiries, I was quoted a very high price (almost double the usual rate) for an alternative boat.
Faced with nowhere to stay for a night, i enquired about another night at the Coconut Lagoon, but was told that the only accommodation available was the most expensive villa ( costing approx £140 a night), which, in the low season, in a near half empty resort, I find difficult to believe.
In spite of this, I would recommend this hotel. If you want to relax, this is the place for you!!

One of the finest properties in India

I had a terrific stay at the Coconut Lagoon Resort. The location is ideal just out of a movie scene. The rooms, bungalows and mansions are very comfortable for stay and the staff is exceptionally courteous. The hotel people know how to pamper your senses and blow your mind. The backwater cruise arranged by the hotel was outstanding - an out of world experience. The Boat driver Sunil is excellent. He knows everything about the place since he is a native. The food is scrumptuous and by far offers the best Kerala cuisine one could expect. The SPA was also amazing with some traditional ayurvedic treatments on offer. They make you feel like a royal prince and take utmost care of the guests. The sunset boat cruise was a heavenly experience in itself. The backwater boat ride from the pickup point to the hotel premises was spectacular. It transported me into a completely different world. The property is located on the banks of Vembanad Like and is the most scenic location in Kumarakom. The rooms and mansions are well appointed and open air toilets are to die for. The toiletteries that they use are herbal and made of best quality material. The bird watching tour is something one cannot afford to miss at all. The environmentalist knows a lot about birds and will go all the way to ensure that you see all local species of birds. The butterfly and dragonfly garden is a sight to behold. You will find yourself immersed in butterflies while they freely hover around you. Must visit for all.

Good resort but not elite

We had a good stay at coconut lagoon. The heritage style architecture really helps provide a historic and cultural feel rather than being purely at a resort. I stayed in a heritage bungalow which was clean, spacious and nicely appointed. The grounds are also very well kept.

Service overall was very good and friendly, from the front desk to the wait staff at the restaurants. I also partook in an Ayurvedic massage at the resort spa which was a very unique experience. However I found the free yoga class to be a little bit lacking.

I found the food at the restaurant to be good but not great. I realize that resort prices will be significantly more than anything outside but I did not feel the food could be justified by the high costs. For the price of the resort I was expecting a better overall experience.

Overall a food stay but not quite a five star resort. Keep in mind also that the resort is only accessible by boat so it's not very easy to get off the resort if that's something you plan to do.

Beautiful and serene

It was our first visit to Kerala for a vacation and we are glad that we chose Coconut Lagoon for our stay at Kumarakom. The property is very beautiful and very well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the things which really stood out was the environment friendly approach in every aspect. I will definitely plan to visit this place once again on my next trip to Kerala.

glad that we booked through hotels.com this hotel resort,it is really too good & worth a stay with full worth of money spent for this property,very good quite location,too good rooms,specially open bathrooms,food really exciting,excellant,tasty many choices for veg food also,ambience,greenery everywehere,well maintained &all staff very polite,co operative, well mannered,ready to help in every time,restaurent staff too polite,good with healping us in selecting veg food and chef was eager to prepare for us many new dishes as per our choice of new kerala type veg food--we were looking for some mistake or problem during our stay but regrate to stay that we could not find a single mistake,problem and must visit place in kerala--we can say it is worth every penny spent or more than worth for the charges we paid for our stay with so many activites for full day that we never felt like we are alone on this property

Idyllisch und erholsam unter Palmen direkt am See

Sehr schönes, originelles Resort am See in Kerala.
wir waren in einem der uralten Bungalow mit Blick auf die Flussmündung in den See und trotzdem sehr ruhig gelegen. Die ganze Anlage und Hoteleigenen Angebote sind auf Erholung zugeschnitten.
Superfreundliches und hilfsbereites Personal.
Der SPA-Bereich kann wärmstens empfohlen werden. Ein so breites Angebot an Behandlungen, auch medizinisch, haben wir noch nie gesehen.
Jeden Morgen und Abend gibt es Yoga und Meditation im Hoteleigenen Zentrum.

Der Flughafentransfer beinhaltet eine zweistündige Aufofahrt und am Schluss den Boottransfer in die Anlage.
Das Hotel kann wärmstens empfohlen werden!!!

Übrigens: Dieses Hotel wird auch im ultimativen Weltreiseführer "1000 Places to see befor you die" empfohlen!

Our one night at this hotel was intended to be the luxurious highlight of our India trip, and we were not disappointed. From arrival to departure, we were met with the kindest service, attention to detail, and high quality at every turn. I would recommend staying at least two nights to take full advantage of all that this resort has to offer - we regretted only booking one night. Even during monsoon season, this place was beautiful, serene and utterly relaxing.
