Not at all a resort experience

The experience was not at all resort like. It felt like a basic hotel and the service was average. The food took forever and tasted not good at all, wonder why it took 45+ minutes to prepare. The staff was extremely nice but the property in general was below average. There was not much to do at the resort and the spa didn’t have much options either.

Lovely small resort

A small tranquil resort on a beautiful lake to spend time with your family . The pool access rooms on ground floor was very helpful to be in and the pool is warm and lovely . Food is good too.

This could be a top notch tourist spot bcoz of its proximity to the Vembanad lake. The property is due for renovation immediately so I am happy. The wifi access was bad. Food was average. Wooden flooring is damaged in many places. Staff r friendly but need to be more proactive. The only saving grace of the place is its serene view.Rooms were sufficiently lit & cool. But towards dawn, we were disturbed by some animal running on the ceiling. Weird noises

It's all about the location.

Great view from the lovely infinity pool of the lake.
Delicious food but restaurant lacked any ambience.
Rooms rather tired; hotel needs a makeover.
Hotel staff were friendly in the restaurant and the young man who collected and delivered the luggage was attentive. Shame about the staff in the reception. They could all do with some customer service training, particularly the manager.

This hotel really is dreamy, the sat are incredibly helpful and the location is ideal.. we personally weren’t sure about staying overnight on a houseboat so this was the perfect conclusion.. a lovely hotel right on the backwaters.. the restaurant could be updated but still the food was lovely and the staff were really nice.. we both had massages which realistically weren’t the best we ever had as were in a very strange damp smelling room but still, it was an experience.. the room was amazing. Upgraded on arrival to a poolside room.. honestly all in all I’d highly recommend staying here.. I wish we’d stayed a day or two longer!

Best Location in Alleppy!

This property is in the best possible location right next to the lake. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food can certainly be improved upon especially regional & western dishes. The pool is amazing but the chlorine levels should be reduced.

Mid-range resort in Alleppey, look for better ones

An average resort in Alleppy. The resort condition is \"average\". It is located in an \"out of bounds\" place (although directly on the lake) making access difficult. The Activity Center is really basic (not much to do and keep you occupied). The pool is good, although not sufficient to hold your attention for long.

The food is good. The lunch/dinner buffet at the restaurant were good and priced affordably. The resort presents itself as a \"luxury\" resort, and charges accordingly. Unfortunately, it is a \"mid range\" resort at best, definitely not a \"luxury\" one.

Great location

Located on the banks of lake vembanad, this hotel has great views. The building itself is also very beautiful and our room was comfortable and clean. The only downside is that the facilities are a little old and parts of the hotel seem a little run down.b

Promise Not Delivered.

Our experience fell way short of our expectation. The resort is poorly managed, too many staff but all poorly trained. So, when you arrive, you have three to four helpers in your room doing nothing but expecting to be tipped. The front desk staff are poor communicators. The term resort is a misnomer, with very little on offer in line with a resort. The whole building is in need of extensive repair. Do not get taken in by the photos on the travel site. The surrounding environment is poorly maintained, with a nearby abandoned pool full of scum and mosquitoes. There are no lawns with proper grass cover. The only two big plus for Lemon Tree include a fantastic location, and a very good and enthusiastic cook, Selva. The pool is like an infinity pool, ending nearly on the edge of Vembanad lake, but here again, staff are poorly trained and the whole pool area is poorly designed. Hotel guests wearing all kinds of dresses except appropriate swimming costumes were in the pool. The main staircase railings are creaking and loose, so, it is safe not to hold on to them. It is better to charge guests more but provide a well-managed resort, but for the price we were charged, it was a big disappointment.

Hotel's location is ok.but room (102)was horrible. Bathroom not hygienic, bad smell.blocked manholes shaking watercloset. In room furniture's are not arranged up to guests comfort old model TV no clarity atall. Staff very cooperative. roo service also good

Peaceful and enjoyable trip!

We stayed for 2 nights in Dec and mostly enjoyed our stay. The best part about the hotel is that its right on the lake and most rooms have views facing the lake. We stayed on the ground floor which had a porch overlooking the lake, where you could sit peacefully and watch the shikara's passing by. There's a beautiful pool which we did not use but it was in the open and had an effect that it was merged into the lake. There is a lot of open spaces/lawns to roam around in and also a kid's play area near the reception. The rooms were well equipped with all the necessary equipment. The staff, especially at the reception were very efficient and would always be ready to help and answer any question, also would arrange transport at a couple of hours notice. There is only one restaurant in the hotel, which serves multi cuisine dishes, but the hotel is in need for more eateries, especially because it is a resort and is a while away from most tourist places. Places of interest around the hotel are 2 beaches- Morari and Alleppey, the latter one more crowded. Shikara's and Houseboat day trips can also arranged from the reception and are really worth it... the scenery is beautiful and green and very peaceful you get to see lovely flora and fauna on the way.

Amazing view but housekeeping was on vacation too.

We had a junior suite next to the pool, overlooking the lake. The view was beautiful and the size of the room more than accommodated us. The restaurant was delicious, although slow if you order off the menu. The buffet was nice so a good option if you eat at 7pm or later. I have kids so that wasn't the best option for us. My big issue was the horrible housekeeping. When we arrived the first thing I did was pick up all the dead bugs. I realize we are next to a lake but I shouldn't be welcomed by an insect zombie crew. We were here two nights and housekeeping NEVER showed up. Our room was never cleaned. They called us once at 8pm to see if we needed anything. I should have said toilet paper. The shower was a high tech space module that we never figured out. The water coming out of it did smell bad half the time. This hotel does have some high points and our stay was nice overall but this is NOT a four star hotel.

We arrived in a sad looking uncared hotel.
Extremely overpriced.
Shower had old fittings, painfully low water pressure
water was always cold to lukewarm at its best
Pool was green
Pool surrounding was aged and unbearable
Wall on the pool side was broken down
poolside tiles were all dirty
They didn't tell us anything about the renovation

Magnificent location !

If you like huge, calm lakes...if you want to switch off...this is the place for you! The food is excellent , service a tad slow (because food is always cooked against orders) and the front office staff we're simply wonderful. The food is very pricey and guests have no choice of outside food, given the location . It is surprising that for a resort, they have no bar license.

Good things first, the view from the hotel was great since it faces the lake. So, the sun-rise and sun-set were beautiful. We didn't like the hotel for multiple reasons. The hotel was in the middle of residential area through a narrow road from the main road. So, it doesn't feel like a tourist place. The directions for the hotel, from banners on the main road, were helpful though. When we reached the hotel gate, we were not sure if this was the right one - the security guard was inside and the gates were closed! The hotel looked like a hostel. The furniture in the hotel room was old. We saw 10 year old old bulky CRT TV. The water boiler was almost damaged and was not working properly. We saw some rooms used as a store rooms and were visible from our window. For the price we paid, it was certainly not a luxury resort. Maybe at half-price, it would look alright. We had great opinion about Lemon tree as a brand but we were unhappy. Finally, a note on hotels.com reservation, they didn't include Breakfast as complementary along with this booking while it was always included for other bookings. I would request them to make it very clear during reservation process and in the reservation confirmation that breakfast is not included. Otherwise, it causes unpleasant surprise like in this case. I called hotels.com service but they couldn't help. However, we enjoyed breakfast at Travancore Palace.

Relaxing stay in a beautiful location

The hotel is in a fantastic location right on the lake, great to watch sunrise and enjoy relaxing at the pool while watching fishermen and birds. The rooms are fine, comfortable and fairly spacious but nothing special, we had a pool view room with patio doors opening straight to the pool which was nice. The pool is great right on the edge of the lake and clean. The grounds are nice and we enjoyed using the hotel bikes to explore the surrounding area. The restaurant is good, perhaps a little on the expensive side if compared with general food prices outside of hotels in India however the quality is excellent and over 4 nights we did not get bored of the menu so no complaints, the decor could do with an update and they don't sell alcohol so bring your own. The staff are good, very friendly and helpful, overall a great stay and good value, would happily book again.

Nice hotel by the lake

Pros:

the view is awesome from the lake.
Morning time - the sun, the lake, the quietness and just being a spectator watching nature at its best.

Cons:

we literally wasted 2 hours to find this hotel, no boards, no direction guides, even the hotel staff was not able to provide the directions properly.

everything not as good as it seeems

we felt disappointed.room was well kept but the we found out that the flush was not working properly.it was corrected on day one only to go bust on the second day. after a strong reminder it was repaired again.
the shower just did not have enough water pressure to have a good shower to hearts content.they would need proper maintenance.
don't know if they are changing the water regularly because we did not feel it to be fresh
the food was way too expensive.

Management came through in the end however we had the following problems:

.One duty manger was arrogant, was insincere.
.heavy rain caused bedroom to be flooded near the garden doors.
.Jacuzzi shower was smelly and did not work properly.

.we tried to book aurvedic message three months prior but they did not allow us, told usit was not necessary, on the night they told us booking was essential, however in the end they did fit us in after making complaints to the upper management.

Marvellous hospitality

my stay at lemon tree was quite satisfactory.hotel z good,room service z good, restaurant z excellant and most important note z of people looking after the guests either in reception or in citrus cafe are really very nice.only problem there z connectivity with good locations of kerela z very far off and wifi z not avaliable 24hrs in ur room free as in other hotels of this standard.

Great location and service

We stayed in rooms 108 and 107 which open from the bedroom onto the pool deck. Views of the infinity pool and lake were superb from the rooms and overall, we were very comfortable. What the hotel lacks in decor (slightly dated and in need of some upkeep) it more than makes up for in the views and great service. We had the 'all meals' package and got the 3rd night free which meant that this trip was superb value for money. Well recommended - I would advise potential guests to book through Hotels.com as the special offer (free 3rd night) was not available anywhere else.

Peaceful lakeside retreat

Staff extremely helpful and friendly.
Some of fittings getting a little tired but excellent by Indian standards.
Beware, no licence for beer or wine!
Make us of the boat (motor \"canoe\") service - one hour seems to be complimenary but that is only sufficient to go half way across the lake and back. Take four hours (only about $40) and go into the backwater \"canals\" on the other side of the lake - see the wonderful variety of birdlife.
We flew back from Trivandrum - a taxi to the airport took 3 hours and cost 4,000 rupees

The hotel is placed in a beautiful location with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the staff were not sufficiently trained in Western expectations, however continued to smile and try to accommodate our needs. The internet service was woefully inadequate giving us about 5 minutes of connection out of 30 minutes provided. There was a lack of information regarding the spa facilities. By providing brochures and a price list for the house boat, both over night and day trips, would have been useful. The evening entertainment, although organised, was not well publicised and we were given very short notice to attend. A notice board of daily events at reception would enable guests to manage their time in order to attend and enjoy this.
They had a feature garden at the back , but it was in a state of disrepair and would make an ideal shaded spot to sit and read and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake. The pool was very nice, clean and well maintained. For hygiene reasons the addition of a shower would be nice. a pétanque area would be a welcome addition to the lake side for those not wishing to swim or fish. Information regarding the procurement of alcoholic beverages to consume in the room would be a welcome addition for most Western travellers. We do recommend the masala dosa for breakfast!

Our family had a terrific stay- 2 kids and grandma

Our stay was very comfortable and the service was excellent. The staff was helpful in arranging car service for 2 days at a fair price- Innova 6 seater for about 3500 per day and very good recommendations about where to go with our 2 kids- exploring the backwaters by renting a Shikara canoe style boat and to the beach. Our stay included breakfast and dinner as a part of our package deal for 2 rooms- one for a couple and 2 kids ages 4 & 6 and a second room for two older women (my mother and her friend). The breakfast was excellent, serving both Indian and continental cuisine with omelettes and eggs made to your liking at the grill. Dinner was mostly Indian with some western type salads, fresh fruit and veges. The Indian food was fantastic, most was moderately spicy according to local tastes however, there were always a few mild dishes for those who can't handle the spice. The only room for improvement was that we had to ask that a tea/coffee tray be brought to the room, since that had been overlooked. I had to call housekeeping to ask for the hot water kettle, cups, tea bags, Nescafe, and sugar. It came promptly. The other thing is that the cleaner they use to clean the rooms has a strong smell like lemon but it is so powerful it can make someone like me (sensitive to smells) cough and have to open the windows. Overall our family was quite happy and appreciated the free bicycles available to ride around the area and the friendly service.

I was very disappointed. Firstly the good bit-the view is stunning but that's where it stops. The rooms are mouldy. They want to charge you crazy amounts to go anywhere and despite emailing ahead to ask you can't walk anywhere from the hotel. Food is poor and over priced

Isolation right at the lake

The Hotel is beautifully located right at the lake with houseboats passing by everz now and then. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are also very specious with flat screen TV and DVD player. The pool is amazing, hamoks, u can do boat trips for great value/money ratio. We went there on short notive because we were to late to get on a houseboat. In the end we were so happy and had a great time. Also the breakfast buffet was nice, u can order ur omlett or dosa.

Lemon Tree Hotel Lake Vembanad

Excellant hotel. A bit of luxury in the heart of India! Staff very attentive and I like the fact that they levy a charge on your bill as opposed to tipping each and everytime you use a service. The view of the lake and infinity pool outstanding. Only downside is that it is very difficult to get an alcoholic drink and this hotel does not have a license. They will however source beer and wine although you must drink in your room. When I return to India I will make sure I will look on the Groups' website for other Lemon Tree hotels.

We loved the stay

We were 3 ladies staying at this resort. Our experience was excellent here. The room was clean. All the rooms have the lake view, which I think is very enjoyable.Plus, the staff are very polite, and very friendly. The Citrus Cafe located in the resort was superb, super duper superb. A little on the expensive side, but worth it. For people with sweet tooth, please don't leave without trying their Fried Ice cream. I also liked the fact that the complimentary breakfast served was also of high quality and there were a variety of choices available: from English breakfast to North & South Indian breakfast. If you are planning to stay for a few days and want to relax, I think this is the ideal place.

Some of the cons are:
The gym is too tiny with only one elliptical cycle and one treadmill. Spa has only one table available so you have to book in advance for the service. Expedia has listed down several room amenities, of which many were not available such as hair dryer, slippers, sewing kit. Also, a bottle of mineral water with MRP of Rs. 15 costs Rs. 85 in the resort. So I think you should buy lots of water from outside.

One of the most stunning views

The resort is located on the edge of vembanad lake and offers an awesome view. We were fortunate to have a suite with 3 side view of lake and being at swimming pool deck layer the feel of being there was uncomaprable to anything i have seen earlier.
Very friendly staff and always helping to make the stay a pleasure... Venu and Dino Thanks....
Excellent service, very good food (even if you choose to go for North Indian menu instead of Seafood, you wont be disappointed.. but better try seafood.. it is great) ...
Its expensive (room rent as well as food) but definitely worth every penny...
Access to resort is through a small lane, hence make sure you use google maps on your smartphone, else it could take a while to find the place.

We stayed here for 4 nights and it was a very pleasant experience. Staff are friendly and room service was ace. Food is a bit pricey but excellent buffet. Location is a bit remote so getting around can be tricky and you are at the mercy of the hotel cab service which isn't bad either. Strongly recommended for a getaway!!

Lake front ane the pool maintenance are superb

The adjacent to the lake is really gods gift. The pool is maintained well with a different lemon flavor water treatment instead of chlorine. Small maintenance is required on the steps of the pool. The boat that is parked there gives a beautiful panoromic view. Staffs are good enough and responsive. Looking forward to spend my winter vacation in goa lemon tree resort.
