Lovely location amongst lush green gardens. Staff were great, especially the restaurant team, who made us feel at home. Loved afternoon tea, watching the sunset at the lakeside. Trips from the hotel are pricey, but we walked to the bridge and jumped on boats to explore the lake and backwaters.

A nature retreat, great location with mainly individual cottages, loved their sunset tea and snacks and Great Lake Vembanad views. Food quality and service were excellent. A great idea for a nature retreat! Also, their arrangement for an early morning Shikara through narrow canals of backwater was superb! I wish they took care of our driver as well similar to other hotels

The setting is magical, and perfect for our smaller kids with activities and a kid-friendly swimming pool. Property condition felt a little dated and dining options were few and expensive, esp given the indoor option was very small and the hotel has no spirits licence (so only beer and wine available)

This is a small resort with about 30 rooms. its nice and quiet and does not have the hustle and bustle of a busy resort. laid back is the right word. very limited dining options with a limited menu. the hotel bar only serves beer and wine but there is a bar nearby where you can buy liquor. only a couple of rooms have lake view. a nice place for a couple of days or till you run out of options on the menu.

The hotel staff are very friendly and polite. However, the internet connection and service is far below standards for any hotel. It was intermittent at best and not available for few minutes at a time😡
The food was ok for a 5star hotel.

The food/buffet was very nice, very well managed by executive chef Manoj and his staff. They took great care of my kid who was being very picky. Housekeeping was great.
It would be great if they can provide accommodation and good restrooms to drivers. Our driver could not sleep and had to drive 90 Kim’s to his home to sleep.

Beautifully landscaped property with a pond in the center. Afternoon complimentary tea and snacks were nice. Naimeen Fish for Ala Carte dinner was very good, vegetarian option was too small and overpriced. Staff service was not bad but sometimes had to call twice to get things done.
- Didn’t expect lizards to be running around the room and bathrooms
- Problematic WiFi to some extend compensated by an Internet card
- Non-working kettle for boiling water
- No US-ready plug points for iPhones and laptops

It is a beautiful property, but kinda of outdated. Their evening program of music and dance is excellent. Their food and facilities are also very good. The staff was very helpful. They don’t serve free dinner, like other hotels nearby. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!

The property is beautiful and the rooms are comfortable, clean and well equipped. The hotel was crowded while we were there and at times it felt as if the staff were not ready to operate at capacity. Old world charm, service, culture modern amenities

With only 28 rooms/stand-alone bungalows this is a 5-Star experience with unbelievable service in the backwaters of Kerala. We had a bungalow overlooking the large lake and it was luxurious- like a private house on a hotel property. Private pool, outdoor bathroom, shower and bathtub with an overhead fan was charming.
The grounds used to be owned by a family 6 generations back and the grounds are spread out over a narrow plot - plenty of bicycles available to shorten distances from room to breakfast/dinner.
Mix of Indian and western menus, quite enjoyable. Ayurvedic services were comprehensive and reasonably priced. We had the hotel book some off property activities and would recommend reconfirming what your getting with the actual provider once they.
Kottayam was worth the visit and gets you out of the property bubble to see how the locals live either in the water or on land.

Tranquility and relaxing resort

The resort is beautiful and a very calm place to get away from the hussle and bustle of the Indian cities. It was a lot of character with colonial features to the cottages and rooms. The resort is not new and things are a little tired but the nature and ambience enables you to look past this. The office manager is exceptional and looked us so well so we got the most out of our Taj experience. There is a lot to do at the hotel from cooking classes, local dancing and music, boat ride across the largest lake in India - all out on complimentary. The room is quite pricey in the restaurant compared to local prices but that’s normal for a 5 star hotel. I would definitely come again for a relaxing break.

A wonderful place to stay

The hotel is set in such an amazing location. The staff are so friendly and helpful. There is lots to do with the bird sanctuary just minutes away and going on the houseboats that stop at the hotels jetty. The backwaters are superb in this area. We also had fun on the hotel bikes and rowing on their lake. The bats that came around at dusk were massive!

So, this place was constructed around 1977 or so, and doesn't really seem to have gotten an update since then. That's generally OK for the main house: nice colonial architecture in the main hotel, however the whole thing needs a massive upgrades. Pretty grounds which are filled with swampy, mosquito-ridden pools. Decent restaurant, esp if you stick with the Indian food. If you are going to insist on chicken nuggets or a caesar salad, then you are on your own.

If you come here, you must do a boat tour. It makes a perfectly fine base for exploring the backwaters, but is honestly not a place I'd want to stay more than a night or so.

Plenty of animals (rabbits, flying foxes, geese, birds) to distract the children, if that's your thing.

Lovely hotel in a nice location.

This is 3rd time we have stayed at the Taj, Kumarakom. The deluxe rooms with lagoon view are well appointed and very comfortable. The staff are excellent and cannot do enough to help. The food in the 2 restaurants (same menu) is first class. The view across the lagoon is outstanding both during the day and at night when it is surrounded by oil lamps. We would return without hesitation.

The rooms were really spacious and clean. I liked the ayurvedic massage - the staff were great, although it was significantly pricier than what you get at most decent places (probably a Taj markup). A little disappointed with the bar - they only had beer and wine, and the wine was a brand called SULO - never heard of it before and I did not think much of the red. Checkin and checkout took some time, but overall a good experience.

Amazing customer service and beautiful place

We stayed for 4 days at this hotel towards the end of our India holiday and we had an amazing time. There were lots of different things that made our stay enjoyable which included the great service we had. Our son had a lot of allergies and the staff and chef went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The surroundings and main building had an old world charm and the daily activities filled up our time there. We really enjoyed the complimentary evening boat ride, evening tea by the lake bed, cooking demo and the bike rides around the resort .

Unforgettable experience

We were picked up promptly by the hotel car and the room was ready when we reached the hotel late in the night. They had lots of activities for children like pottery, duck feeding, fish feeding, boat rides, cruise tour etc. They had entertainment programmes everyday in the evening. The hotel rooms were very spacious and ambiance was excellent. The food was very good and room service was prompt. We enjoyed every bit our stay at the resort. Loved every bit.

Not 5 stars, but still quite nice

We had a very pleasant stay here and the staff is really helpful. By Alleppey standards, it's got to be near the top, but certainly don't expect the 5-star style of hotels in the bigger Indian cities. There are signs of the place's age, frequent electricity failures and the occasional bird in the room (a funny experience in hindsight). On the other hand, you get to enjoy a very old mission house on the grounds of a bird sanctuary. Overall, would absolutely recommend, just be prepared for the handful of inconveniences that come with rural India.

The deluxe villa rooms are very clean and have an old charm. The outdoor bathroom was very fascinating. We got personal care from the staff. Food was really good at the restaurant. There are several cultural activities that you can experience. The property is beautiful, by the Vembanad lake and even has a lagoon inside the property. The spa was disappointing and wasn't very professional. But, other than that the overall experience was something we'll cherish for a long time.

An overall pleasant experience. The ambiance, especially with the artificial lake was quite attractive. Fortunate to have a cottage facing the lake, it made all the difference ! It was a marvelous concept to keep bicycling facilities available for guests, the children really enjoyed it !

My memorable experience at Kumarakam Taj Vivanta

My experience in Taj Vivanta-Kumarakam was awesome. It was a big relief from my busy business schedule in Abu Dhabi and flat life in Abu Dhabi and Kochi. The whole hotel premise is \"clean\", quality of service was \"excellent\" and the location facing the lake water is \"cool\". Amenities and welcome arrangements can be improved.

Peaceful easy feeling

Vast expansive property with less than 30 rooms, by the Vembanad lake and encompasses a lagoon. Despite the obvious challenges to maintain, the hotel and rooms are in excellent condition. Service is sublime, and really enjoyed the live classical music performances by the lagoon / restaurant, as also the complementary boat ride in the lake.

Hotel in a great setting but better trained staff

The hotel was great, fantastic location, great surrounds. The staff were always trying to do their best and I have not a single complaint about their desire to do well, however i expect better training and attention particularly of the restaurant staff in a Taj hotel. The housekeeping staff were great.

Three out of the four rooms my family and I booked were nice but the room I stayed in was terrible.The room was located in the main building and it had a horrible stench - it smelt as if someone had peed in the corner and the hotel staff had tried to mask it with bad smelling cologne. Even when we called room service, the smell did not go away and we had to bear with it through the night. Furthermore, The breakfast was very poor and expensive. My poached eggs were not runny and the yolk was hard. They did not serve me my sausages that was supposed to come with the meal. The service was awfully slow and some of the waiters couldn't even take your orders. My uncle had to ask four times before he received his butter.

Nice slice of paradise

We were greeted with cool damp towels and fresh coconuts to drink out of upon arrival, which really started things off on a nice note. The staff definitely went out of their way to make sure everyone is having a nice stay. We stayed in one of the more budget-friendly rooms in the main building. From looking at others' pictures, the villas look much nicer, but the room was still lovely- very spacious and clean with a nice view of the lagoon and the outdoor restaurant.
The property is beautiful - we spent a fair amount of time just walking around looking at the different plants. There are a few different boat tours you can do of the area (we just did the complimentary evening one) and some activities on the property such as cooking demos and a teahouse experience. Very good place to go to relax - I'd say 2-3 days is sufficient to do all of the activities/ tours in the area. Advice to management: perhaps include more daytime activities in the middle of the afternoon for guests with prolonged stays to help pass the time.
The food was also not bad at all, albeit pretty overpriced. A tip if you're coming from the airport: we got a much lower price for a car to the hotel using the pre-paid cabs desk at the airport than what is charged if you arrange airport pick-up through the hotel.
