Very nice, very helpful staff. Lovely property—especially the villas with private pools. Good gym, good restaurant. Only downside is that it’s pretty isolated with not a lot to do nearby. But if relaxation is what you want, you’ll get it.

We were very impressed with our 4 days at The Zuri Kumarakom.

We were surprised to be told that the property is about 25 years old, because it's superb maintenance suggested a much younger age to us.

As we rode into the property, we were a bit shocked to see a lot of policemen around. And that turned into panic when they accosted our taxi cab at the hotel porch. I was looking for hotel staff to help us avoid the policemen and to whisk us into the reception. As the policemen unloaded our luggage from the taxi, we broke into laughter realizing that they were actually security staff from the Ambassador Security services!

At the reception, Ms Sanu greeted us and readily accepted my request to see the other room types before we occupied the one I'd booked online via Expedia. We liked the villas the most, but it was way more expensive than what the two of could justify splurging. So we settled for an upgrade to the cottage and Ms Sanu helpfully processed the charge of the difference amount. It was an amazing experience to be in the quaint cottage right on the man made lake adjoining the mighty Vembanad Lake.

At 4:30pm we went to the Lime Cafe for the complimentary high tea. There, we were offered a sunset ride on the shikara boat. It was quiet inexpensive at Rs 250 plus taxes per person. When we boarded, we realized we were the only ones on board. It was an amazing ride and Aswin was our impeccable host boatman.

The resort is beautiful. Very well maintained gardens and external areas. The whole resort feels quite cool with the greenary all around.
The pool and the gym was excellent. The Maya spa was nice. It's a very relaxing and rejuvenating. Overall avgreat resort to stay.

Worst and pathetic service

This was the worst stay we had. The service is too poor. Arrogance or mr. Abhishek ( duty manager) and his behiaviour and attitude is absolutely not acceptable. Also non of the department accepts ther mistakes. It also takes nearly 45 min to have bath towels to the room and nearly 2 hours to have food.
☹️☹️ very disappointing and horrible service.

Property is great. Lovely in fact. Wooded, nestled amongst trees and a lake. Picture perfect. Service was slightly less than expected. We could check in only at 5 pm. Service at the tables were slightly slower. Staff made every effort though. Did massages at Maya Spa - awesome. I will stay again for sure.

Nice Kumarakom resort

We liked the stay here. Very quiet and the breakfast was good too. The staff were friendly and helpful (although we had to manage our luggage ourselves on and off the buggy which was strange for a 5 star hotel).

There are tons of spa options and enjoyed the treatment that we had was good. The water wasn't getting warm enough and when checked been told that it is set to a temp of 45 degree but it wasn't hot enough for the bath tub.

The cottages have the balcony with the lagoon view but the poor design of the roof means we cant stay there while raining (or after rain till its dried out).

Majority of the place was still closed post lockdown so we couldnt explore it all but it was well worth the money.

Liked the cottage style rooms and views. Loved the spa. Great massage by Ambili!!!
There was not much to do there. The 2 small boat activities are kind of boring and no guests were seen doing them. There is an amphitheater area but no dance or performance was done while we stayed Mon - Thurs. This could be a really nice place for guests to gather and be entertained.
The bar with happy hour is hard to find and kind of hidden so hardly anyone comes there. It is really nice and would make a cool place for guests to hang out. Make it more accessible!!!

Based on site information, I expected the small lagoon boat ride to be included in the daily rates but it was an extra Rs. 3000.
Overall nice property but it could use some more entertainment or community gathering activities.

Zuri is beautiful, relaxing and set in stunning scenery. The staff are wonderful, the food is really excellent, and you get to try Keralan specialities each day as well as a wide choice.

I particularly enjoyed the spa and gym where Sinoj Pillai the trainer was so kind and spent time with me every day helping me through some injuries, full of excellent advice on stretching, and leaving me after 13 days convinced and positive about the progress I had made.

The house boat experience on offer was a huge treat, going to Allepi and experiencing the backwaters and the incomparable wildlife and bird life is memorable. Couldn't recommend it more highly, as a whole or part of a trip to the wonderful state of Kerala this is somewhere I will return

Once you are past the property gates it is beautiful. Getting there could be a task especially if it's the person visiting is not familiar with the area. You need to go through narrow lanes. The Staff of the hotel really need to up their game. There's a lot lacking before the hotel can call themselves a 5 star property.

Time to update and refurbish!

Room was worn-tables, cabinets etc were very dated, some even chipped and fish worn off. When bath tub was filled, it leaked an inch or more water to the floor. We had to play janitor. We were getting ready for bed so didn’t want to be disturbed by a cleaning crew- we had to deal with a very wet floor all night. Dried mostly by morning.

Stay at Zuri Kumarakom with Friends

Resort start was good. It would have been better if they have more indoor activities like pool and table tennis. Ensure you don’t book this place during the Monsoon season. Even though the place was flooded, the hotel was ready to cancel my booking. Resort food was not that great and all the restaurants outside were closed because of flood. Check in process was easy and the room service was also excellent. Check out didn’t go well as we had to carry all our baggages ourselves as nobody turned up even after making a phone call. May be a unique case for us..overall the stay was just average.

Staff are not friendly at all . We had difficulty contacting Zuri Kumarakom for reconfirming the reservation since their online phone number is wrong . We booked the hotel for one night and there was a mismatch on the dates we booked. Even with plenty of vacant rooms due to off season and raining , they were unwilling to accommodate us . When we decided to leave after 2 hours of waiting in their lounge, they offered a room and we declined it. They overcharge for their food and rooms. You get a better hotel accommodation in US with all convenience compared to their room rate and other expenses. I was planning to go back next year with my family but I decided against it due to our bad experience with staff members at Zuri Kumarakom and also due to their overpriced rate. I do not recommend this hotel at all. .

Peaceful lakeside hotel with excellent spa

This was our 3rd visit to Kerala but our 1st stay at the Zuri. We chose it over the Kumarakom Lake Resort as it was slightly cheaper and we wanted to go somewhere new. We were not disappointed. Stayed in a cottage which was large and very clean with an outdoor shower area. The cottages back onto the internal lake, whereas the suites have a plunge pool and overlook Lake Vemnabad itself. It is a beautiful setting and very relaxing. The food was excellent, although there are few healthy options other than fruit. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful; in fact the service was some of the best we have experienced anyway included much more expensive luxury resorts. The spa, swimming pool and gym are clean and of a high standard. We booked a week of treatments and were very satisfied with our experience. All in all, this is an excellent resort which we can thoroughly recommend. We will certainly stay there again in future.

Really enjoyed our 3 days at The Zuri. The chalet was fantastic, the view was exceptional, and the private pool was great. The food was delicious, and the staff very friendly and went the extra mile.
The only negative was the comfort of the lounge furniture. They were old and very upright. Not great for relaxing or watching TV.

Pool was closed which is one of the main attractions. Half the property is dug up with repairs to water pipes (?) so pathway is blocked at many places. Beautiful grounds other than this, but rooms are aging. Mattress not very comfortable. Really doesn't merit a 5 star rating.

Nice Hotel but not up to mark compared to high cha

We stayed in a cottage from 28th to 31st. The property is really well maintained and the crew is friendly and polite. However they lack communication skills and professionalism.
Room service was late every time and we have to call up for to replace used towels. The ceiling fan and couple of lights were not working and the staff took a good one hour to fix which caused us inconvenience.
The main restaurant is good and buffet spread was sumptuous, however the Fish Restaurant was pathetic. There was only a limited menu to choose from and the chef's expertise is just ok.
Owing to the price it charged we believe that the service should have been much improved. So We could not give a higher rating than 3.
Taj vivanta is a similarly priced resort but it is way better than Zuri.

A couple friendly resort - we checked into the hotel our wedding day and they surprised us with a cake. Amazing ambience. My wife and I stayed there in the month of April; it was very hot and sunny. This did refrain us from doing any outdoor activities. The Lagoon View room we checked into was perfect. The spread for the buffet breakfast we had for 2 days were exactly the same. But all the meals were fresh and tasty. The high-tea provided was simple, yet very traditional. We did not have a smooth checkout; had to wait around 40 mins for the buggy service to help us with our luggage. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would definitely come back.

The Zuri is a top notch hotel in Kumarakom. The basic aspects of the hotel are very good (Room, Spa, Pool, Service, staff etc). We also organized a house boat session on the backwaters that was phenomenal. It's a great price/value from a USD perspective. The one issue we had was the second restaurant (Laguna Bass). They tried to make western seafood but we really only wanted to eat the south indian style food. If you go to Zuri i wouldn't recommend going to that restaurant. I would only eat the buffet or a la carte at the coffee shop (Lime Tree). The quality of that food is spectacular and the buffet has many options on a daily basis. The Pool and the Spa is fantastic. I swim quite a lot and the pool is very long and relatively empty for swimming laps. Everyone in the family trip had some sort of aryuvedic massage and everyone thought it was amazing. The bar is good too but it does close at 10pm which is a little early.

It was about 2.5 hours long drive away from Kochi airport.
The resort it self was clean, quiet and pleasant place, even though we only stayed for 2 nights.
Breakfast was okish for a 5 star resort.
Surprisngly and a bit odd that , Pork or Ham etc were not laid out openly in order not to upset some guests from another region.

Overall the staff were very helpful in making sure that our short stay was pleasant.
Hopefully, will go back and spend a bit longer to try all the other facilities.

Over priced hotel with rude management

The hotel and ground staff was nice. The hotel travel manager was rude and hotel does not have consistent guest service. The hotel practice is to offer welcome drinks as a new guest arrives but it is not consistent. When mentioned to the travel manager at the hotel his answer was you will receive the welcome drink when you come back. It is not a matter of the drink but the hotel service. If someone can afford to pay about INR 12000 per night they can also afford to buy their own coconut that is offered as a welcome drink for 30 rupees. We purchased a water bottle at breakfast in January 2016 which had either packaging date or use by date stamp of December 12th 2014 that shows how the hotel operates.

ARRIVAL:
Took my family on a vacation. Booked 3 rooms for two days. The female receptionist who greeted us was weird. One of the rooms was ready and 2 other were not. It was 2.55PM and checkin time is 3.00PM. She goes, \"Sir, the other two rooms are being prepared. You are early by 5 minutes, it is not 3.00 yet\" as if blaming us for being 5 min early. Instead of offering us a buggy ride to the room, they sent the whole family walking in the hot sun(95 F) for a good 300-400 metres. When asked, I was told you have to request for one. We just checked in, how the hell were we supposed to know that a buggy ride exists?

ROOM:
Being from Boston, we had just come to India from a house which is constantly maintained at 68 degrees. Apparently the temperature in the rooms of this hotel are controlled by the management and not by the individuals renting the rooms. I was unable to reduce the temperature. When asked, I was told that you cannot reduce temperature below 74 F (23 C).
The tub in our room (#116) had brown/pink stains on it which was disgusting. I think even a hotel without stars would maintain a bathroom clean.
RESTAURANT:
Good quality, great tasting food. The restaurant staff was also very attentive and helpful. That is the only reason I am giving this hotels 2 stars. The only thing I recommend is that outdoor seating should be avoided when bugs are a nuisance. Due to the AC space being full, we were seated outside and had to fight for our food with the bugs

Compared to other resorts at Kumarakom, Zuri property has more backwater frontage.

There are 10 private (infinity) pool villas (single bedroom).
Other category rooms with lagoon views are also nice.

It's the picture of the beautiful pool which feature always when the hotel is searched online, unfortunately the main pool was under maintenance and it was not mentioned while booking and the only option was to use the private villa pool which is very small.

There is no pillow menu and the mattress provided was below average standards.

Other resorts (KLR, Taj, vasundhara sarovar at Vayalar etc.) provide an evening boat ride which is complimentary. At Zuri it is charged.

The complimentary high tea session was cancelled due to the rains and no alternative was provided. Other resorts in the area used to have alternate arrangements since Kerala always used to have heavy rains.

The fruit basket provided had oranges which was about to decay/in bad condition. This was reported next morning at the breakfast counter and the manager in charge apologized and did offer a pack of fruits, which was a nice gesture.

The umbrella provided in the room was already with a broken handle.

We were about to walk from the pool villa to the reception/restaurant area and the pool-boy suggested a buggy-ride. He called 3-4 times, but even after waiting for nearly 15-20 minutes the buggy dint turn up and then we decided to walk.

It's not expected from a resort in this category to make such careless mistakes.

Whether I will go back again ?
1) Yes, hoping the service will improve.
2) because of the location (it's still better than KLR and Taj Vivanta)
3) the friendly staff

Great Resort.. Extremely poor service..

I stayed at Zuri for a couple of nights and while it is a great hotel to stay at, the service was extremely poor. Here's why 1. On two different occasions took an hour to get food if you order a la carte. 2. On a rainy evening, we could not get the golf cart for 40 mins. Therefore, our plans of going out that evening got delayed. There are only two golf carts in the entire property and even though there were only 24 rooms occupied that day, we couldn't get the cart to get to the reception. Cars can only drive up to the reception entrance. 3. We were told that the salmon dish we ordered would be a grilled salmon fillet. Instead they served frozen smoked salmon. There were a number of such silly incidents that made our stay less memorable that it should have been. In comparison, the service at a much smaller hotel in Munnar and a much much bigger hotel in Kochi was absolutely fantastic.

A nice place

The stay at Zuri Kumarakom was good. The place was what we had hoped for, quiet, clean and the staff was courteous. Finding the directions to the place was slightly tricky, due to lack of sign boards from the hotel. On the bright side, the check in process was swift and the front desk was quite efficient.

Their 24 hour restaurant Lime Tree was good with nice view and sitting. The staff of the restaurant was extremely courteous and helpful in guiding with the local food and tastes. Specially the manager, Abhilash and serving staff Silu.

The location of the resort also gives a nice view of the water body inside and outside the resort. The only minus is that given its remote location, with heavy rains, electricity goes off, that too for ten minutes maximum.

The spa was again clean and calm. The services were good and they had a broad range of therapies both ayurvedic and western. The spa visit is a must.

Overall, the stay was good and refreshing.

Excellent Resort Hotel

This was a great place to enjoy a backwaters resort experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay. the staff was very accommodating and everyone we contacted did everything possible to make our stay exceptional, and provided customized services when required (e.g., being able to order from the menu of their other restaurant to meet my wife's needs). The spa services were also excellent, and the spa was lovely. the grounds are meticulously kept and the Presidential Pool Villa is a wonderful setup - with a private, large, infinity pool overlooking the backwaters, where you can watch the sunset and all the various boats ply the waters. We'd highly recommend this hotel, and this room is worth the extra cost.

we stayed for 1 night at private pool villa, it was amazing view. In front of private pool , the backwater so beautiful. Could see boats sailing in morning. Amazing beautiful resort. Big room with 2 tvs. fast service. fast check out. Nice food at restaurant and good service. However be careful of mosquitos and spider web as its big resort and lots of greenary.

One of the best resorts ever!!!!

Zuri Kumarakom is one of the best resorts that we have visited. The staff is extremely courteous and friendly, they cater to all the needs of their customers right from the stay, food, facilities, etc. I would highly recommend Zuri to anyone who is visiting Kumarakom. Stay there to experience it and am sure you would definitely want to go back.

Serene and peaceful

We had the Deluxe Cottage for one night and the Presidential Pool Villa for another. The rooms were great, had all the amenities, service was on point, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful relaxing time. One tiny thing we found annoying was the placement of light switches - a lot of them were counter intuitive. We also weren't too comfortable using the private pool in the villa. It is private as in only the occupants get to use it, but it is protected from gazing eyes only by bushes and shrubs. There really needs to be walls on the sides at least.

perfect resort for escape

pleasant, nice and enjoyful. I stayed my wife at the Zuri for 4 days before we moved onto Munnar. The resort has a very graceful staff. we loved our stay. Zuri has enough to offer even if a travrller doesnt want to step outside.
