Staff are professional and friendly. Food is delicious and price is amazing. One thing was unhappy: the hotels.com and this hotel were not flexible for the refund due to flight delay. Decent stay

It’s good hotel to stay in if you’re there on business. We were there for a wedding. The room was nice and spacious as well as clean. Everything was very well presented. My main issue was that housekeeping would knock on our door 3-4 times a day even though we had the do not disturb sign on.

Breakfast poor, air conditioning is working as they want and not what you set. The staff barely speaks English, those who should assist you with taxi, don't understand nothing and hope you will leave and not ask for their assistance

Overall, all good.

Location was great. The room is advertised with temperature control, but it's not the case. I asked why the air wouldn't go on and I was told this time of the year, the whole system is off. I said, it's a very warm day, and they shrugged their shoulders.
Also, not plug-outlets near the bed. Hmmm.

it could be better

the hotel is OK, clean, location but there were two things I don't like: first when I arrived the hotel late evening out of taxi with three suitcases, no one help me even there were three employers standing and looking at me. I guess they were thinking I was a delivery person which is low-class in China. After finished check-in at counter no one to help me to bring all my belongings into my room. Second, there was no air-condition(cool) in room which is standard procedure for hotel in Shanghai after November. It is OK in normal weather condition but this December was warmer than normal with good weather. My room was too warm for me and no way it can be cold down with open windows, no air circulation.

The hotel is very outdated. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. Water is complimentary and they strive to be green so recommend you use their toiletries sparingly, which I was fine with.
The hotel staff were not friendly. They would openly avoid me and let people skip in front of me in the line.

Lastly, their gym facilities need a serious update. The equipment is incredibly old and worn out.

I have been staying here for past 3 years when traveling for business as it is convenient location for me. I have been always happy, however this time I have returned after 4-5 months and hotel looks run down, lobby bar shut as well as lobby shop, reception stuff looked scruffy, I have complained about room as Internet did not worked and room was extremely hot with not air-condition option to take it lower then 25 degrees
My 2nd room had bad smell and towels seen better times stayed 3 nights only this time, but for my next trip I will definitely look for different hotel

The hotel is centrally located and within 5 minutes walk to Jinan temple and again 5 minutes to line 2. In saying that you need to be familiar with shanghai to find the train or just ask. the Hotel is on the main road and easy to locate. The breakfast is very average and the restaurant is not connected to the hotel so you cannot add it to your bill which is a pain and something they should sort out.

We had a mix up with our reservation and they literally told us we are lying and they had to check the cctv to make sure we were there. Hotel is old. Rooms are clean and OK. Staff is awful. Never picks up phone, we had to double pay because they couldn't find our exepdia reservation when we first arrived, then marked it as no show... Still resolving the issue... Forget problem solving. Wifi SUCKS. If you are relying on Wifi for business don'r do this hotel

Reasonable hotel at reasonable prices

Pricing is reasonable, and you get what you'd expect. Clean room, moderate size, decent comfort all round. Bed is not as hard as some other reviewers have complained about. Only downside is that hotel is a solid 12-15m walk to the nearest subway, but taxis are reasonably priced in Shanghai. Service staff were excellent.

The WIFI in the room is extremely bad

The hotel advertised free WIFI in the rooms. Don't believe it.
The WIFI in my room is so bad that it takes 3 minutes just to get onto your home page. After I changed room which the front office promised will be better, it was still the same. For those who needs WIFI, don't stay in this hotel

There was absolutely no Air Conditioning or air flowing though our hotel room for the ENTIRE stay. With the air being stagnant at 82 degrees Fahrenheit we were extremely uncomfortable. We talked to staff, we talked to managers but nobody was willing to help. Instead, we received ridiculous responses from various individuals. They gave us a fan, but that didn't help. One person even told us to open our window! We were on the 23 floor! Nobody offered to come to our room to experience for themselves just how warm the room was. And nobody offered for us to move to another room. We were ridiculed and treated like second class citizens, essentially like idiots. We would have been better off at a motel which wouldn't have been as costly.

The hotel was well located and within walking distance of two train stations. Beware of any hotel that claims a view, it is probably another high rise. Taxis are abundant and usually very inexpensive. I used a transportation pass and traveled by train quite a bit. You can go almost anywhere in the city for about 50 cents US. If you visit the main attractions for tourists, you will find the city is clean, beautiful and quite modern. Venture away from the main attractions, maybe by walking a half mile to catch train and you will find the other side of Shanghai - slum areas, garbage in the streets, and smells that are hard to take. I got many strange stares in these neighborhoods, probably because they had not seen an American up close. But at no time did I feel threated or unsafe. An interesting observation was while there were many police everywhere, none carried a firearm, and seldom enforced any of the laws. Cars running (slowly) red lights; bikes, motor scooters and motorcycles apparently can travel the wrong way on a one-way street. No place to park your car - park it on the sidewalk. Many sidewalks were impassible because of the cars and motorbikes parked there. So you walk in the street. Coffee is hard to find except in tourist areas. Coffee was twice as expensive as beer. Most drinks, water and soda are sold at ambient temperature, but there were many fresh juice stands. Despite your conclusion from the above description, I enjoyed the trip very much.

I have stayed at the Shanghai Merry Rendezvous on many occasions over the years and find it quite pleasant. I do feel, however, that the building and finishes is starting to look old and tired.

Best Sub-$100/night hotel!

I was searching through all the sub-$100/night Shanghai hotels and this one was the best. It was recommended by a co-worker who usually stays only at 4-star and higher big name hotels. Upon check-in, the staff was friendly and spoke English which was great.

They had a lot of tourist pamphlet guides in the lobby, in addition to a currency exchange machine which had pretty good rates (better than the airports I believe). For example, I paid $1 CAD = $5.5 RMB whereas the machine was giving a rate at about $5.26.

The room was very neat and clean which I liked, and it included North American style electrical outlets in addition to the traditional China ones.

The only bad thing is that it's sort of hard to get a taxi in the morning so make sure you ask the front desk to call one for you upon check out (not through the pamphlet in the hotel room, those ones are more expensive).

Overall, if I was to stay in Shanghai again I would definitely stay at this hotel without any hesitation.

I don't really know where to start because nothing was right. lets start from the time I got there. It took the taxi driver a long time to find this place because it was not on a main street. its inside a little alley surrounded by residential buildings. I got in there and the front desk did not speak a word of English, instead of wearing uniform they were in their t-shirts and flip flops.Great! I hand in my passport that's when I heard all the banging, they told me they are under renovation. Great X 2! The room did come with a stove and sink, no pot no pan no utensils. I mean what is the stove there for? Am i suppose to carry a pan and a pot to go on vacation? Great X 3! Now lets get to the best part of all. I stayed there for 7 days. by the 3rd day they told me the elevators were having problems. So mid-July in shanghai when its 100 degrees outside im running up and down the stairs multiple times a day. the day I check out i had to drag 3 of my large luggage down the stairs. Great to the MAX! I am not a picky person, I stayed in many hotels around the world this has to be the worst of all.

In a city with so many hotels, why stay at one that is so sub-par? If you are in town for business, the wifi in this hotel either (a) doesn't work or (b) is too slow for use. The staff isn't trained to fix it, or even help with basic things like \"whats the password for the wifi in the lobby?\" I received answers like \"we don't know and the person who does know, doesn't come back till tomorrow.\" Other services, for example room service wasn't available after 10 pm and breakfast not available before 630 am. When I booked the room through Hotels.com it said free wifi, the hotel then tried to charge me for it. Essentially, nothing was good about this hotel, although it was clean enough. But, why settle for something so sub-par and over priced? I won't again.

Needs to pull its socks up!

I have been staying at this hotel on and off for about 6 years. My stay this time may have been an one-off but both service levels, staffing levels and equipment all seemed tired and the hotel is in need of better management to bring it back up to satisfactory levels.
Its location is fine, the rooms are well appointed, its quite and it could recover its former good value for money reputation. My first room the air conditioning did not work despite a poor attempt to get it working, so had all of the hassle of moving next day. Food quality was only average for breakfast. Needs to pull its socks up!

I paid for the cliub room which was closed on the day of checkout so no breakfast there. No Drinks etc
The food selection in the club room was not as good as the main dining room
The overall food was fair but not great
The club Room closed at 8 pm every day
The air conditioning did not work very well
The high speed internet was 1 mps over dial up
The floor above me was under construction so not only was the heat bad but it was noisy also

Gone very much downhill

From reading past and current reviews, I would suggest this hotel has changed for the worst in recent times. All merits from reviews I read were not found during my visit.

To reiterate what I summed up from previous reviews, yes the hotel does smell a bit like sewage at times, especially in the lobby and corridor areas, really not pleasant.

The staff are very rude and abrupt, constantly pointing me in the direction of the concierge desk whenever I asked for help of any kind (map/directions/book a taxi) my reply each and every time was simply 'there's no one on the desk' -poor service levels.

The staff outside the hotel, again rude and useless, happy to stand there and ignore you, we ended up getting our own taxis of the street after that, much quicker.

The room itself, a twin, was cramped and wouldn't of held 2 persons luggage, lucky enough we were only booked for an overnight stay.

Can't recommend it and not impressed in the slightest.

Hotel staff are not professional. They were sort of indifferent to guests checking in. The parking staff were sort of rude. Internet access is the most expensive one in all hotels in China. They cared more about night clubs (KTV), restaurants, and other sort of not-hotel services than the hotel service. Highly not recommended.

Both the room and bathroom were small. Rug was extremely dirty and worn! Bed was like sleeping on the floor! Service was good and people were friendly. The hotel is run down!! My room came with breakfast and Happy hour in the executive lounge. Service was terrible at breakfast. We had to actually walk over and pour our own coffee. The food was just ok. Because business is so bad there, they had the executive floor shut down. Happy hour was in the regular bar on the first floor and offered limited drinks. My associate drank Heineken which was on the menu, they ran out after two!!
I think in the past the hotel must have been very nice. Currently it desperately needs a overhaul!! But I will say one more time, the people were very nice and friendly!

Location was not good - too far from the \"Centre\" i.e. the river (the Bund). Concierge service was excellent. Hotel refused to turn on the air conditioning but did bring fans, which were more than adequate. Restaurant is incredibly overpriced for the quality and quantity of the food.

Be warned, some of the en suite bathrooms have glass walls to the bed!

10年前に1年ほど上海の定宿として泊っており、5年ぶりに宿泊しました。
大通り沿いではあるのですが、少し奥に入っていることもあり、騒音も気にならないです。
また、通りには飲食店からコンビニまでそろっていて便利です。
ビジネス目的であれば、十分、目的を果たすことができ、上海にも関わらず、安価に泊まれるのでよいと思います。
10年前は、1階のロビー横に売店がありましたが、それがなくなっており、ちょっとコーラが飲みたい。とか不便に感じましたが、静かになったので、良かったのかもしれないです。
また、次回も泊まらせてもらいます。

浴槽の湯を抜いたら排水溝から逆流してきた。
室内に流出しないようタオルでガードしながらでヒヤヒヤした。シャワーのほうの排水口からも逆流有り臭いもした

정안사와 장수로? 지하철역 두곳과 약 10분 거리라서 시내 이동이 매우 편했어요 71번 버스도 바로앞에 내려서 와이탄 쪽 갈때도 편하고 공항이나 디즈니 갈때 등 모든 관광지 이동이 편했습니다. 호텔리어분들 영어도 어느정도 가능했고, 숙소 퀄리티도 가격대비 좋았어요.

Expedia での予約時の写真の通りの部屋で、清潔感は一般的な日本人には問題ないと思います。
スタッフの方々も感じが良かったです。
予想より駅からの距離がありましたが、朝は静安寺駅までシャトルバスがあるようなので、計画的に行動するなら便利だと思います。
静安寺駅には静安寺という観光スポットがあり、もう一つの最寄駅にはガイドブックでよく見るお手軽な焼き小籠包のお店があり、楽しめました。
価格を考えると、とても良いホテルだと思います。
