The kiosk was interesting for a desk clerk. But there was no staff to make breakfast, so I asked if I could dig through the cabinets to get cereal or oatmeal. They said yes.

The bedroom coffee machine had old water and bacteria in it.

The hotel was largely vacant, with several areas boarded up. The entrance had dirty floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and there was no attendant at the front desk; instead, a kiosk was available for assistance. Inside our room, we noticed a few hairballs on the floor, and the mirrors were dirty. When my daughter accidentally spilled her water bottle, I used a towel to dry the floor, but the towel turned black after wiping up the spill. It was clear that the room hadn’t been swept or mopped in months.

The only way to check in was via video kiosk. There were no staff present in the building and would not be until morning. Half of the building is boarded up. The floor in the room was dirty. There was hair in the bed. The bedding did not appear to have been changed. The bathroom door was difficult to open and close. The fountain in the lobby had no water. There were hair balls in the hallways. The building and parking lot are not being maintained. Peeling paint, broken up concrete in the parking lot. I'm not kidding about any of this. I took a look around and did not stay at the property.

Room seemed dingy and muggy, lights and outlets didnt work near bed only in bathroom. Bathroom door wouldnt close all the way. Hotel room door was hard to close. T.V remote didnt work. We paid to have free breakfast included but did not have breakfast at all after being told on check-in that it would be served from 6:00a - 9:00a. I dont like the kiosk we use to check in with a live person on video. I would much rathersee a person live behiind desk very creepy. Our bathroom had a leaky toilet so we had to shout off the water hose. I would not recomnend this hotel.Very disappointed.

Upon arrival, there was no staff present, nor did I see any staff the entire stay. A virtual agent appeared on a kiosk after about 15 of waiting.
The room was filthy. Dirty sheets, smears of white stuff on the mirror and the bathroom was the worst.

When they say you get what you paid for that is a true statement when booking at this property. Friday there is no one at the desk but a guy on a robot to check you in. Once I got checked in the light did not work, holes in the wall, sheets were stained with god know what, holes in the sheets and worst of all a bedbug was found in the bed. All the property offer was a new room and my deposit. I was there for 5 minutes and left to a different hotel. Run far away from this place as fast as you can. Do not even take a look at this place. I would not have my worst enemy stay here that’s how horrible it was.

I accidentally booked twice 2 rooms on my account . I purchased a one night stay and I completed purchase on Expedia. Then I was sent a notice to add Expedia site to my phone. In doing so it asked to reapply my booky. I re summited my billing information and I found I had accidentally booked two rooms. I mentioned it at my check in as I was advised there was nothing they could do and I should contact Expedia.
Why staying the night I received a phone call from same motel advising me my room was ready. I told him I was already checked in and it was a mistake. I had to move from room 205 to room 202 because the heat was working at all in my room. After being switched the heat in the next room didn't work to heat the room . So tile floors were cold all night. Before check out time I asked disk if they were going to clear the 7 inches of snow at of their parking lot. He asked for manager she came down and told me if she could get out, I should be able to get out my self. As she left the building. I complained to front disk automated check in and check out service. I was advised their snow removal was sent up north and they could doing nothing about it. Manger finally tried to shovel drive way. I ask what happens at 10 o'clock checkout. We had to be out of our rooms. They shut my key down at 9:55 and I wasn't checked out yet. We had to shovle out our cars and still had to drive throw 7 inches of parking lot snow. I see they billed me 2 for rooms. I was very displeased with my stay.

There are no real people at the facility. I had to check in speaking to someone over a computer screen and not in this country. Then i went into my room and realized i did not have a remote for my tv and again because there is not an actual person on the property they could not help me. I had no tv for the entire time. He said he would print me a room key for a different room so i can get a remote and then said there were no rooms available. It was a Monday night and the place was dead. I asked to switch rooms and again he couldn’t do that. I was to wait until someone comes in at 7am but no one was ever at that front desk other than the computer screen. When i checked out at 10am there was still no one there. You can’t run a motel from another country and give any kind of customer service. There was also no shampoo or soap in my room and again no person there to give me any. It was ridiculous

The room was dirty and had one light at the entrance as well as it took them 8 hours to make the decision with several callls and a final prompting from the maintenance man to move me .. the tv didn’t work at all and the desk staff was non existent. It’s a computer screen you talk to someone who isn’t even in Illinois… the surrounding area was sketchy as c well seeing what appeared to be drug transactions in the parking lot .. there were cars that came and left without getting out of their vehicles .. I was so disappointed I left without being able to get a refund on my last two days and rented a room at the Holiday Inn

I really don’t know how to begin to explain how pitiful this hotel is. It said it was $55 on hotels.com but when we went to book it, it was 150+ tax, which came to about $172. When we came into the hotel, there was about three cars there and was not well lit. When we came into the hotel lobby, there was no one there to greet us and no one working the desk. There was a kiosk and when you walked up to it, a person came on and asked you to pay an additional $100 your card for a room deposit. The first room they gave us room number 114 was like the size of a closet. It was filthy, there was a nasty bathroom. The water was running and it smelled like sewer. A little tiny bed with one pillow one light worked in the whole room. The TV didn’t work. It was just really pathetic. I went back to the kiosk and told the man that we couldn’t accept this room and he told me that he needed to speak to the manager and they gave us another room. We would’ve left then if it hadn’t been for homecoming and Carbondale, there was no rooms available anywhere and it was late. They offered us another room, which was much cleaner two beds, but the bathroom water still ran and smelled. The TV did not work at least there were lights. I told him man at the kiosk and he said he would send a maintenance person over to fix it. I checked back with him in about an hour and he said that something had come up and they’d be there soon. They never came. This place really needs to be condemned.

Was only served breakfast one of the three mornings we were there. The breakfast only had stale cereal, milk, and bread. The room was covered with stains and streaks. The underneath of the bed was disgusting, the bathroom curtain rod was covered in rust. The parking lot is disgusting, covered in glass and trash. Atleast the bed sheets were fresh and clean, plus the A/C worked! I saw one worker the whole entire stay, which was the house cleaning. They have no on site staff, except a kiosk with 24/7 employees that are on the other side of the world. I will not stay again, and do not suggest anyone else should

Broken a/c, we couldn't adjust, when we asked for more pillows and blankets, we were told there was no housekeeper in staff and I saw a house keeper cleaning a room at that time. I was also told the hotel doesn't stock extra clean blanket or pillows. The parking lot light was in our window all night, illinating the room so we didn't get good sleep. We couldn't shut the curtains, they were \"decorative\" the smoke alarm would not stop chirping every 2 minutes. Very dissatisfied with the deposit, was not informed there would be a deposit, was was told the deposit would be refunded upon leaving, was told when I was leaving that it would be deposited in 4 days. So I was lied to on the deposite. Very unhappy I booked 2 rooms. There were no humans working to talk to and help aside from the housekeeper who \"wasn't there\" to help with linins. The WiFi and TV both didn't work. There was only one outlet for the entire room, we had to unplug the mini fridge to use the coffee pot. The vending machine was broken.yhe toiletries were used by previous tenets. You could tell because it was half empty in one room.

The check-in and check-out process was terrible. It took 15 minutes to check-in and 20 minutes to check out using an electronic kiosk.
At check out the person insisted the hold fee I was charged upon checkin, was paid in cash and I would have to wait until a person thats comes in at 9:30 to get reimbursed..I paid the fee with a credit card..he kept saying no, you paid cash..he was arguing with me about it...he finally called his manager..after several more minutes, he finally comes back and says, your credit card will get credited..no apology..nothing

If all you are looking for is a cheap place to sleep for the night, this can work. Otherwise, it's garbage. It's a dirty and beat up facility. TV didn't work, lights were out. Also, don't let the free continental breakfast fool you. It was the absolute bare minimum. In fact, they had open gallons of milk and Sunny D in the small refrigerator. Seemed pretty darn unsanitary to me. I didn't touch it.

First thing, there was no person to check us in. It was done via a remote kiosk with a person probably out of the country. Had never experienced that. The hotel overall needs some TLC. Painting, entry doors and pavement outdoors is bad. Rooms need to be remodeled. Our room was dirty had stains on the lamp and trash from last guest. if i could give zero stars i would. first. no one works the desk. it's an automated kiosk with people in another country checking you in. it was hard to understand what he was saying and took way longer than it should.
second they gave me a room that had never been cleaned. so i had to go back to the kiosk and then a lady with a notebook told him which rooms were available and clean.
third... these rooms are rough. damaged walls, doors, furniture. the bathroom door would not close at all. i would recommend sleeping in your car before staying here.

The room had dog food on the floor by the bed and by the fridge and the floor was dirty and all the corners were filthy gross. The Tv wouldn't turn on and was damaged with multiple large cracks on 2 different sides.

When i checked in there was no staff just a kiosks with a person on the screen working remotely. They took the seperate $100 deposit via a credit card machine sitting on the desk next to the kiosks. Never recived a receipt for the deposit only a piece of paper with the room number wifi info and their charges for smoking or undeclared pets.

Cheap place to stay but beware….

You could tell this building used to be something else cause it is definitely aged and not in a cute charming kind of way. They have tried their best to make it look historical. I saw signs for guest laundry and fitness center but they didn’t actually exist. My room was next door to the bar that is I didn’t hear anything coming from in the bar but those walls are so thin you can hear people talking in the lobby and out side. Oh and the continental breakfast is literally toast and cereal.

The good: One of the cheaper hotels in Carbondale; convenient to both SIU and Shawnee National Forest; kiosk staff were friendly and helped where they could; breakfast was 6:30-9:30, a decent window so most people should be able to grab something.

The bad: They use remote kiosks at the front desk instead of in person. Since they're remote, if there's a problem with your room, the most they can do is pass the issue to management. Rarely saw anybody behind the front desk in person while I was there. My bathroom lightbulb needed changing and I had to ask twice to get it changed. On the second to last day of my stay, my toilet developed an issue where it wouldn't flush and would leak water on the floor. Told the front desk about it but the issue wasn't corrected before I left, had to use lobby bathroom instead. The soaps they give you are tiny and fragile. The soap in the lobby bathroom is basically a pump bottle of water. While I never had the breakfast, from what I could see it was pretty much toast, bagels, cereal, milk, and sunny D for orange juice. No sausage or eggs or anything like that. I could hear thumping music in the lobby, likely from the bar next door. Lobby chairs are a bit run down.

Well, should have read other reviews before going to this place that felt like I was in “The Shining”. Sadly, our place was non-refundable and we decided to stick it out. Ran out as we could after our night. The club nearby makes the parking lot into a block party and there are definitely squatters at the abandoned building behind this place.

The neighborhood is very sketchy. The only staff was a guy on a kiosk. He wanted me to pay although I had already payed through Expedia. I slept in my car that night and found another place the following night.

Expedia refunded the money to me, so no complaints there.

Cheap for a reason. Not for families

Right next to a rowdy bar that lets out around 50 people at 1:30 am. Room has damage galore and no actual attendant on duty, just a kiosk. Breakfast is decent though and it's pretty quiet during the day. Also a kid breaking bottles against the abandoned building next door after 1 am is a lil wild. I told him chill out and he left though so all good I guess.Water pressure not great.

Spent a weekend in town visiting SIU - the entire time there was no one at the front desk! Instead you are greated by a KIOSK. No surveillance at the front door and an old broken dusty air conditioner as soon as you walk in. As soon as you walk in the humidity and smell are overpowering and the room was even worse. We ended up having to go buy linen and towels as we found several bugs thru out the room. The windows were filthy and the curtains stained with could have been mold or really bad stains! We ended up leaving after the first night and will never be back when visiting our child at school. Needs a lot of minimal work but I guess you get what you pay for.

I had a fantastic stay at the University Inn of Carbondale! From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel welcome and went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable experience. The room was spotless, beautifully designed, and had everything I needed. The location was perfect, and the breakfast buffet? Delicious.

Worse place ive ever stayed in!!! No hot water, the tub wouldn't drain and the toilet seat was broken, no breakfast and no people around to help with anything! I will never stay here again!
