This hotel has the worst management we have ever experienced. They are horribly rude, they do not honor reservations made on Expedia and they do not treat their guests with respect. They will not help you at all if you need to make a call or book a car. The hotel is dated and the hallways are used as storage rooms. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

This is are the best i found in this hotel after check in. I would like to suggest this hotel to everyone best in town and best to stay for your shopping around the area. Only thing i didnt like is that they didnt have controller working nicely for the air condition its too cold and chilling so i have to switch on and off all the time to adjust as per my requirement which made my health a bit uncomfortable. They also didnt provide any facial tissue even after i ask the house keeping. So i have to buy my own. REst no more complain the hotel is best and i would like to stay there in every visit to kolkata for shopping.

Convenient and clean hotel

I was upset upon check-in that my locally living friend was not being allowed to stay as my guest, but that's a policy that many hotels have there, it seems. Finally, he was allowed to stay. Otherwise, everything was perfect..Very nice and helpful staff, great breakfast buffet, and perfect location within New Market. The hotel was nicely decorated, as well.

Just okay hotel next to New Market.

Overall our experience with Sapphire Suites was okay, but the main entrance to the hotel is horrible, very dirty, smelly, and very inconvenient. We didn't get double bed as reserved and confirmed .We were just given two portable single foam bed on the floor after requesting three times. Same goes for Wi-Fi access. Outside foods were not allowed which should be lifted, because hotel foods were not always available and extremely expensive (almost four times of outside).

Our 'City Tour' through hotel was okay, driver was knowledgeable, and very nice. If you plan for city tour get him (Mr. Motin), he is very nice and friendly. First taxi driver who brought us from the airport to the hotel was extremely unfriendly, rude, unprofessional, and unhappy person. He dropped us 1/4 miles away from the hotel said he was not allowed to get on the street to the hotel which we out not to be truth. He didn't help us with luggage to in his trunk or get off the trunk. He also demanded more and more tip.

The City of Kolkata needs to improve the image of Yellow Cab drivers' image, provide them with more training in passenger friendliness, professionalism, courtesy, and politeness. Also, have all cabs air condition, especially Yellow Cabs. Airport is the first impression of the city when tourists arrive.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel, the 1st being when it 1st opened which I thoroughly enjoyed, however on this occasion I found the staff very rude and unhelpful. the management have also introduced a new rule which outside food is not permitted which is fair enough so the only option for a meal if it's late and your hungry is the hotel room service....yuck! the only dish I could eat is the fish and chips and it was basically two fish fingers and a hand full of French fries drenched in salt at the cost of 400.07 rupees which equals to about £4.00 and not worth it! The room they were going to put me in on arrival was small and horrible but luckily my relative who could speak the language made them change it which I liked. if I ever visit again I may not visit this hotel due to the lack of customer friendly staff. message to the management and staff at this hotel....please learn some customer service skills and smile!

I liked the locality

Very bad experience, Never faces experience like this.
Entrence of this hotel is very poor,rooms are very small, no cleanliness at all, no manners and courtesy at reception desk at all.

On the whole no value for money and very disapponting stay. I will never recommend to stay in this hotel.There are much better hotels in this area to stay.

worst experience ever

I had stayed in this hotel for a day and the worst experience of my life. The staffs where rude especially the lady receptionist, how come people like her get the job of receptionist. she cant speak proper english and lacks ethics. I was not allowed to invite my guest to my room on top it the reception rang me to cross check if i have got the guest in my room or not. it was really humiliating that i had to check out on the same day.

First shock was entrance way. A claim for having parking when they have 1 single parking spot on the street! It is definitely not a 4 stars hotel. At best this is 2.5 stars. Totally unimpressed by the hotel location, layout, entry way, facilities, and what not. The best thing they have going for them is their staff. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Rooms are decent. Food quality is very bad. Hotel prices at time of booking included buffet breakfast - buffet was bad. options are not available in the buffet spread and more importantly quality of food is pathetic. Same applies to lunch or dinner .
Overall comparing charges to facilities - it is disappointing. Would not refer it to anyone.

Very nice hotel room with professional managed staff who even explained the fire escape plans when we checked in. But other wise also, very neat hotel with excellent interior design, professional staff and centrally location. Highly Recommended.

We had a pleasant stay! Only drawback is the surrounding neighbourhood which is not at all clean and fully crowded! The restaurant was very good! The location is perfect! The Esplanade metro station is within walking distance! Overall nice stay!

Ok for india, not like the pictures, VERY LOUD

Dont plan on sleeping, earplugs wont help. One of the best things about this hotel is the location, but this building was originally offices, there is no sound proofing AT ALL. Drums will be beating round the clock (a break of nicer silence occurred only btwn 3-5am) horns will honk, general madness. The walls / sheets / pillows were not exactly white... A very large (3\" cockroach) was quite at home on our blinds. Staff is very very nice & super helpful. Dont do your laundry here, it will get ruined.

Noisy new market location with friendly staff

The staff at the hotel were great, especially the porters and wait staff in the breakfast area. Our room was only on the 2nd floor and at the street end so we had constant honking, street noise, music, etc. until very late at night and starting early in the morning. But that is New Market for you. I had to wear silencing headphones at night to sleep but my husband didn't find it to be a problem. The room is modern and clean but the bathrooms (showers especially) need some work for cleanliness and updating. The water got cold gradually in the shower and we had a small ant problem. Otherwise we found ourselves lucky to find a nice place in this part of town that was walking distance to many places, though be careful of the route you take for the sake of your nose and general stress level.

new market convenient location!

Staff were helpful. Food was very good. Location was very convenient but a bit difficult to find. So happy it had a lift. Beds were comfy. Shower was great but did not stay hot for long. I'd definitely return to this hotel. A bit expensive, but so much better than many Kolkata hotels I've visited!

The Adventurous & Cozy Gem of Kolkata !

There are times when the adventurous spirit needs rest, the comfort of one of the best beds in India, excellent service of Management and Staff, relaxation and then still, some excitement - this type of stay is very hard to find unless you book this true Gem of Kolkata ! Rickshaws, the hustling bustling New Market and S.S. Hogg right outside our window, a beautiful extra clean suite equipped with bath to soothe our achin' adventurer bones, AND by far the best main access-point to all Kolkata destinations (and others within India) is just a little of what our stay at the Sapphire was like :) Some great hotels have insincere staff that can place dampers on what should be a sunny experience, but not here! We're lucky, our days have been so bright! You will do yourself a favor by booking here now :)

Amazing location with some kinks to work out

This is an odd hotel and a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing: although it markets itself as a 4-star boutique hotel, there were frequently moments when I was reminded of my backpacking days way back when. Avoid the rooms on the first floor -- especially those in which the door faces the noisy lobby. The location is phenomenal if you want to experience the heart of Kolkata and the fittings are generally nice, although the decor feels as if it's trying a little too hard to be modern.

Pretty good for an Indian hotel

It wasn't the most upscale of places but gave me everything I wanted to make it a hassle-free time in Kolkata. The rooms were modern and clean and the services was good (I had asked them to hold onto my luggage for an extra half day as I was touring the city and they helped me fetch a cab too). The juice upon arrival was a nice touch as well. The only slight downside is that the neighborhood, was right next to a super busy market and was going through some slight renovations at the time.

My stay here was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was great and the rrooms were modern, clean and well looked after. The location was in the heart of the very busy market area, which meant there was everything you need close by. It did tend to get a little noisy in the evenings but died down by a a reasonable hour. Highly reccomened.

perfect location, everything available outside!

What a lovely new hotel with very friendly staff. I stayed for a week and didn't want to come back as everything was available just outside including restaurants, money exchange shops (with very good rates), bars, nightclubs, clothes shops, shoe shops, etc. The room itself was nice and big for a standard, (not that I minded) flat screen TV on the wall and the best thing was my bed was next to the window overlooking the whole of Newmarket which I loved looking out every night. Didn't have any breakfast as I slept late every day as the bed was very cosy and the air conditioning was adjustable in the room. I would advise anyone going to Kolkata to try this hotel as great value for money and deserves two thumbs up! I look forward to going back to this hotel soon.

Business hotel - a very poor choice

Was supposed to stay there for 2 nights but checked out in one day as the room was pathetic. The room had not been aired at all and smelt of mould & fungus. Reason not far to see as walls were damp due leakages. Fell sick with the damp. The rooms are too close to each other and all sounds travel. Torn towels in the bathroom. Basic amenities such as a toothpaste or shampoo were missing and had to be asked for. The hotel is located in an awful place and finding it took ages. I would avoid it like the plague

Clean hotel but not an escape from the smells

It's a brand new hotel and has been maintained very well. The staff are incredibly helpful. Unfortunately, we were required to wait a while before we could get into our room. The room was very clean but had a very unpleasant smell. Although we do not really blame the hotel as it is situated right on top of New Market and the continuous inflow and outflow of people would keep bringing in the stench from outside. We bought incense sticks ( caller agorbati in bengali) from a streetside store outside which sells pan and masala and used that to get rid of the smell in our room. I would advise better daily cleaning of the rooms too. The clutter on our side tables and desk was left the way it was with no cleaning and linens were not crisp and clean.
