A great and nice place in a bustling neighborhood. The hotel and amenities are good for a peaceful stay. The staff is very cooperative and helpful. We only ate the breakfast, and it was a great spread with variety of options for gluten free also. Overall, a great experience.

LaLiT is a historic building, near the colonial seat of power when Calcutta was the capital of the British Raj. The traffic around the hotel is chaotic, not to mention crowded. But the staff were wonderful.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay, and will stay there again when we are next in Kolkata.

Although I arrived late, and the hotel was at capacity due to the IPL opening game, I received very quick and efficient service from the reception staff. My suite was beautiful (Victoria suite) and every moment at the LaLit Great Eastern felt like a journey through time and history.

The food was also good and the staff at Alfresco were helpful and friendly. I would absolutely recommend here for foreigners.

The stay in the hotel was average. We are very disappointed by the overpriced food in the hotel restaurant. The ala-carte food price were exorbitant. We have traveled many places in India and stayed in five star hotels but nowhere we had this experince of overpriced food. Either you take their buffet or pay exorbitant ala carte price. Many people are not fond of buffet food but there were no options but to take it.
On a positive note, Rajib in the dining area was most helpful and went over and above his duties. Kudos to him for such a great customer service.

We stayed at this hotel twice during our recent stay and received an upgrade on our return visit which was very welcome. Very well located for exploring the centre of old Kolkata and very good facilities. Staff are very helpful and an excellent concierge in particular who could not have been more helpful. Good selection in the dining room and extensive buffet option. The only downside is that the bar is in a separate building and lacked any atmosphere when we were there. Would happily stay here again.

Good top end hotel albeit rather a way out of Kolkata city centre in an area with little to do but convenient for airport. Recommend Club rooms for good quality lounge access and free airport transfer. Rooms well looked after with good cleaning staff, less so around pool area where difficult to get a drink before 1pm as staff still clearing up from night before despite residents trying to relax

Staff is trained to be always cordial and greet every guest, must give lots of credit to the employees. But the property itself doesn't have high quality amenities as they seem to be wanting to save some bucks. Water comes in plastic bottles unlike glass like Hilton or Vivanta limited selection of tea's and dinner is quite pricey for the area in my opnion.

I would have given 10 stars if it was an option. You get a magnificent view from the Roof Top bar on the 26th floor. They had great food mixed with local and international cuisine. The DJ played awesome music to keep the guests entertained. I would definitely recommend to my friends and I will stay again on my next visit. I stayed there from June 18 thru 23rd 2024. Anil K USA.

This is a very beautiful historical property. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping was on top of making sure the room was clean along with water, tea, and coffee stocked daily. Bicky is amazing at taking care of the room and makes sure everything is perfect when he cleans the room. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again for future visits to Kolkata.

A very stylish, modern hotel in a very good location. Though noisy early evening, it quieted down around 9pm which ensured a good night’s sleep.

Friendly helpful staff though was a bit hectic checking in as everyone was looking to check in and out at the same time. As this is a luxury hotel I would have expected a cold drink on arrival whilst waiting (developed world problems I know, but this is down as a luxury hotel).

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We arrived half an hour after check in time and were told our rooms weren’t ready. We asked to wait somewhere we could get lunch and were taken out onto the street to a cake shop/bar/restaurant. Service there was very slow and my food was cold when it arrived. Not a great start to our stay in LaLit. However we got upgraded rooms to compensate. Rooms were very spacious and beautiful though the safe didn’t work and the bath water was brown. Also I only got one towel. Food in the restaurant was very good.

Being a heritage hotel I liked the style of the rooms and size. Towels were stained and not white as they should be. Breakfast staff not trained to serve tea etc properly and don’t speak English. Front office staff were good and could communicate with international guests. Food selection good. Hotel overpriced for what they offer.

Clean and courteous, convenient hotel.

A quiet hotel which was clean and central. I stayed at the back of the hotel so had no view but had no city noise too. Breakfast was good but not enough vegan food. Staff courteous and they even wore Pride badges in January, which was a wonderful initiative by the hotel. They had a pride flag in the front of the hotel. Thank you.

The check-in experience for someone who is used to excellent customer service in US, was just mediocre. We checked in pretty late around 11 pm. The gentleman who helped us did not put any extra effort to make us feel welcome. No offers of water whatsoever. He insisted on putting a credit card on file, repeatedly, even when I mentioned that it was late and we would like to go to my room after a very long flight.
The staff at the restaurants, janitorial staff, porters etc. are very nice. I loved interacting with them.
The breakfast and the in room dining were good and we really enjoyed the variety of food.
The staff at the reception completely ignored us and any requests we made. Toilet paper arrived in 2 hours, after three calls to the reception.
However, the worst part of the stay was that two nights before we are scheduled to check-out, we receive a call at 10 pm from Mr. Faisal at the reception asking for feedback on the stay. That was really in very bad taste. I requested to speak to the manager the following morning but that did not materialize. I am disappointed that such a pricey place could not exhibit basic decency in dealing with their guests. This has most certainly left a bad taste in my mouth.
I travel via Kolkata very often due to work, but will not be returning here.

Got very sick at this hotel

I returned home after a week at Lalit Great Eastern extremely sick. I was sick while there and constantly being visited by doctor. At home I was diagnosed with rotavirus, and two strains of Ecoli. I am extremely ill and on strong antibiotics in US. At least some of these bugs came from the hotel breakfast and/or dinner buffet, I feel. There is a lavish spread of food but I question the hygiene standards in the kitchen and don’t know how many times food is reused or how well fresh fruits and vegetables are stored. The hotel is attempting to do more than it can handle. Also there is only one restaurant under a glass roof. At breakfast time I think the sun shining on food that is kept out for several hours causes spoilage. The hotel looks neat and clean, but I got very sick eating here. I didn’t eat anywhere else but the hotel. On a side note, it was very disappointing that the historic section of this hotel seems to be closed for renovation for several years to come. But even that would have been okay if I’d returned home in good health.

Though they had about 80+ very high profile guests from the cricketing world, they still were able to look after all is us with equal importance. Breakfast was not the best, but was a good one. Overall experience was okay compared to other hotels of the same rating. I normally like Lalit and visit their Delhi property quite regulars. The kolkata one waa a disappointment. I booked a legacy floor room after discussion with one Mr. Agniva that i will get access to the lounge (to conduct some interviews which I was traveling there for) and after reaching there was rold that the lounge was booked for a private function and cant get access. With no formal place to dk the interviews, i was forced to book a meeting room for 12k which was very high. To top it the internet didnt work and was interrupted several times during the interview. So in short I made the mistake of taking the word of Agniva and ended up with extra charges which again was not served well. I would have chosen other hotels if I had known this befoee. A waste of money and sure i will never visit this property again. Forgot to add the breakfast area is a nightmare and so narrow you will be lucky if you don't someone while picking food.

We had an issue with the shower in our room, the young man who serviced out room was extremely helpful and did his best to resolve our issue. We complained on check-out but it fell on deaf ears, they were not concerned at all.

Most of the staffs are very friendly and professional. But I had such a bad experience at the restaurant downstairs. The environment was very unpleasant. I heard the restaurant team leader named Adytta, to shout and cursing member of staff in front of the guests. It happend every time I visited the restaurant. At one point I had to ask him stop, and that was at 7:30 AM in the morning. Apart from that I believe it is an amazing hotel.

We had an amazing 36 hour stay in Kolkata due to our stay at the Lalit Great Eastern. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. We were able to check in early and check out late. They held our bags for us as we explored the city after checking out, and the orange juice at the breakfast buffet was something to text home about. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

It's the hotel with a glorious past. It is here the "Jungle Book" was written by Rudyard Kipling. The hotel is now trying to come to the 21st century. What I did not like was: upon arrival, totally shattered after a awful flight from Dubai to Kolkata, I was asked to pay INR 20,000.00 as security deposit!!
The room itself was just basic. Everything else was just excellent,

It was really nice and clean and I recommend the luxury legacy room because of the really cumfy window seat which is great for reading. The buffet restaurant was really yummy and also well lit. Overall, I think this is an amazing hotel and I really recommend it.
