This is a wonderful hotel that makes any visit to the Bayreuth Wagner Festival extremely special. Little touches include the little note at breakfast announcing the forthcoming performance, the apéro in the afternoon before a shuttle-bus trip to and from the Festspielhaus and the option to dine after a performance. Even seeing the music on the stave above the beds is charming.

We were there for the annual Opera Festival. Many of the guests were there for the festival also. The hotel arranged bus transportation (for a small fee) for everyone, and each night had a champaign get together before departing. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, and the staff was very helpful in every way.
The room only had 2 twin beds, so that was the only negative.

Room and bathroom clean but rather dated. Woodchip wallpaper painted yellow. Crack in one wall. Furniture a bit dated. A bit like staying in student accommodation from 30 years ago. Bar and reception staff very helpful and efficient. Didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel because it was fairly pricey and alternatives within walking distance. Hotel was in a good location.

Reasonable with Some Shortcomings

Hotel Rheingold was generally comfortable and well-appointed, but there were some shortcomings. The fitness center was disappointing, with only two aerobic exercise machines, including one very squeaky bike. There wasn’t a tea or coffee pot in the room, which required “borrowing” one and carrying it from the front desk. And, with no room refrigerator, the only option was storing items in the communal refrigerator in the front desk office. And, be sure to bring shampoo, as only liquid soap is provided in the shower. Though friendly enough, the staff wasn’t overly warm when fielding these issues. The hotel is located a bit away the old town area, but it’s a fairly easy walk to enjoy the charm of Bayreuth. So despite some inconveniences, Hotel Rheingold overall is a reasonable choice for the price and location.

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and found it quite convenient. The hotel offers a shuttle to and from the Bayreuther Festspiele and included in the shuttle bus price is a small aperitif while waiting. The hotel is very close to the city center and we also found a very nice walking/bike path along a river behind the hotel. Some of the rooms don't have air-conditioning so if you are there over the summer you may want to request a room with AC. If none are available, they do have fans to help keep you cool. The breakfast had many choices and the staff was attentive. There is a private parking lot attached to the hotel and we paid 10 euros per day. The front desk staff were very efficient and helpful plus they are there 24 hours.

There was no food option in the hotel after breakfast. If they have staffing issues having a list of suggsted restaurants nearby would have been nice. Nope, not the case.
They don’t clean the rooms every day unless you ask (there is a note in the room about this); this doesn’t make sense now after covid! The bathroom has one soap for all purposes (hand, body, hair) and no lotion.
No iron or ironing board.

The staff were sweet enough to call me taxis both times I asked. Room was clean and working AC wall unit, and clean towels.

Hotel Rheingold was a very nice, clean and safe local hotel. It was easy walking distance from the train station (19 minutes) and just across the main road to Old Town Bayreuth. We walked to the Festspielhaus and only took about 20 minutes. We were in Bayreuth to see all the Richard Wagner history. This hotel was a perfect hotel for easy navigation and close walks to all the museums and attractions. It is also a 5 minute walk from the Maisel's Bier-Erlebniswelt...Great local beer!! We certainly recommend this hotel.

Perfect hotel for our stay in Bayreuth. Check-in was a breeze. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The desk and dining staff were friendly and helpful. Stayed for a few days during the festival time. The hotel manages this exceptionally well. It operates a charming service that provides champagne and canapés before the opera, then shuttles you to and from the performance. It offers an excellent post-theatre dinner served by charming staff. Highly recommended.

Stay for opera at Festspielhaus

35 degrees outside and no air conditioning in first room I was given. I thought I was going to pass out. Luckily I was moved to another room. I don't know how anyone could have stayed in previous one.
Breakfast was very good.
Staff at reception and at breakfast very helpful.
Bus transfers to/from Festspielhaus for EUR5 per person. The first day we departed in a black coach which was comfortable and cool. We returned in a yellow coach which was hot and uncomfortable.
The second day we departed in a yellow coach, the driver refused to put on air conditioning until we departed. It was 35 degrees outside and same (if not hotter) on bus. We were all dressed in our fine clothes for the opera. The bus did not at all cool down. Around a dozen people got off bus before we arrived and walked as it was so uncomfortable. The rest of us arrived hot, sweaty and not happy. The same that evening for the return. The drivers could not have cared less. The Festspielhaus is famous for not having air conditioning and it was hot in there. To not have air conditioned transport to/from there is unforgivable. I don't remember the name of the bus company but if you see a yellow one and its hot get a taxi instead!

This hotel looks after their clientele one hundred percent. From the piano playing as we arrived downstairs to have a quick sparkling before boarding the bus to the Festpielhaus to the supreme breakfast the next morning. Every aspect was perfect. The staff showed every enthusiasm in our stay. Our rooms were very comfortable. It was easy to acces the town which is very sophisticated and catering to a constantly changing range of tourists. We loved the nearby cemetery, walking up the hill and wallowing in the gardens of the Festpielhaus and along the main greet to Richard Wagner Strasse where Wahnfried and the grave site and adjoining park are situated. A lovely relaxing holiday here in Bayreuth. And of course the opera. Superb!!

Efficient and convenient hotel

An efficient hotel with helpful and professional staff. We had a quiet, comfortable room, which could have been slightly improved by providing two pillows, rather than one per bed.

Like most guests, we were there for the Wagner festival, and the hotel provides a bus to and from the festspielhaus at a modest cost.

The hotel is very expensive, but that would be true of anywhere in Bayreuth during the festival.

Breakfast was very good, with a lot of choice available.

Not overpriced for Bayreuth during opera season

Hotel off a road outside the ring road and very quiet at night, noticeably as the windows had to be kept open because there was no air conditioning.
Room adequate size and water bottles supplied. (Also water bottles given as we checked out.) Bathroom okay with enough surface areas for all our toiletries to be spread out.
Tea/coffee making facilities not offered even though there was room for them.
2 chairs - unusual.
Breakfast excellent. Mot massive selection for hot (scrambled eggs, bacon & small bratwurst only), but plenty of continental choices - 2 types of herring (2!) smoked salmon, umpteen cheeses, sliced cold meats smoked and otherwise. Cereals, fruit, yogurts - you name it.
Checking out took about 5 minutes and the cab I had requested arrived a little ahead of time.
Having stayed at 2 other hotels in Bayreuth, this is the only one to which I would want to return - but please get air conditioning installed.

Room is bare bones, but you have everything you need and the Reception is ready and willing to help w/anything else you require. Make sure you have a room w/AC if attending the Wagner festival. You'll need it. Nice to come back to a room w/AC. Champagne before and shuttle to opera house is a wonderful plus.

Only some rooms have air conditioning - and ours didn't. We were seriously overheated during our two night stay (1-2 August, 2017), even with the window wide open and no bedclothes. Recommend specifying a room with AC if the weather promises 30+ degrees. Otherwise quite good, but in need of decoration upgrade. Breakfast is superb and staff more than helpful.

Air conditioning is promised, but actually not all rooms have it. It depends on what direction the room faces. This is absolutely false advertising on the part of the hotel and Hotels.com, and I was extremely disappointed. I had a sleepless night because the room was so hot. This site needs to take away the promise that all rooms are air conditioned!

Chbre réservée depuis 1 mois, arrivés l'apres-midi pour 3 nuits : eu chambre attribuée au 7eme sous toits très pentus, réduisant l'espace, et bien sombre car éclairée juste par petites fenêtres : notre demande de changer contre une des chambres à l'étage (plus spacieuses et plus claires car avec baies) a été refusée car \"hôtel complet\" > pourtant vu des arrivées plus tardives.. et de nombreux départs le lendemain matin..
Autre pt - : salle de bain vétuste, avec baignoire et manque d'étagères et porte-serviettes > les serviettes pendent au-dessus de la cuvette wc !!

Bien dommage car sinon le reste est parfait : emplacement proche de l'agréable grande zone piétonne du Bayreuth historique, petits-déj. à volonté typiques allemands et fournis, bouilloire et sachets café-thé ainsi que bouteilles d'eau dans la chambre, propreté (ménage par de sympathiques étudiants Ghanéens), parking souterrain payant mais pratique...

- pt: Booked 3 nights. were assigned a room on 7th floor under very steep eaves, reducing the space, and very dark as lighted by 2 little windows. Our request to move to another one was refused =\"hotel is full.\" > ?! much later arrivals and the day after departures...
Another - pt: bathroom dated, bathtub and lack of shelves, the bath towels hang over the toilet bowl !!

Das Zimmer war dem Standard entsprechend, leider fehlte ein kleiner Wasserkocher, um sich einen Tee oder Kaffee zu machen. Der Frühstücksraum hatte eine ungemütliche Atmosphäre, die laute und hallige Akustik störte. Das Frühstück war ok. Es gab nur Filterkaffee und keine heute übliche Kaffeemaschine mit Cappuccino und ähnlichem.

Wir waren zwei Nächte dort, es war wirklich klasse, das Frühstück war top. Die Zimmer waren sicherlich okay, nicht so extrem modern, aber uns hat es gefallen. Wie immer, in fast jedem Hotel ist das der Fall, dass WLAN auf der Zimmerebene ein wenig schwach, aber es gibt Wichtigeres.
Ein tolles Frühstück, sehr umfangreich zu einem wirklich sehr fairen Preis. Auch das muss hervorgehoben werden. Die Leute, die uns bedient haben, waren sehr freundlich und die Atmosphäre auch nicht als Abfertigung zu sehen.

Sehr einfaches Hotel, zentral und ruhig (wir hatten ein Zimmer zur Seitenstraße) gelegen. Weder Bayreuth noch das Hotel haben uns besonders gefallen, aber bei dem relativ günstigen Preis ist das Hotel wohl akzeptabel.
