Great hotel for a stay in Tokyo - basic but has everything you need. Staff were helpful and the hotel was very clean. The area is quiet and has all the amenities you need, with bustling Shibuya just a 15 minute walk away. I’d definitely recommend to those visiting Tokyo!

This is a wonderful, family run, small hotel nestled in a sea of tranquillity right in the heart of Shibuya, 15 minutes from the Scramble Crossing. It recently went through some renovations, and the rooms are just beautiful. I had a traditional tatami matt room. I last stayed here in 2018 and had such a good experience, I booked again on this trip. Added bonus, the newly renovated private bath on the main floor. Highly recommended.

This was a nice modern Ryoken style hotel. The room I had was very spacious. The hotel was very quiet despite being close to a main road and elevated highway. It’s not far from Shibuya but far enough to be away from the crowds and noise.
I wish there was a kettle and mugs in the room. The only option was the self serve beverage station in the lobby.

My stay at Hotel Fukudaya was great! This was my very first time in Japan, so I opted for the Japanese room. It was very quaint and calming soothing. The staff was very nice and informative. The surrounding area was quiet but close enough to walk to Shibuya area. Great for staying off the beaten path a little but close enough to immerse yourself in the vibrancy of Shibuya. I’d definitely recommend to friends and family!

It is disappointing that our toilet did not have a bidet because Japan is known for its hi-tech toilets. While the room had a heater, the toilet was very cold especially the floor which makes taking a bath very uncomfortable

Wonderful property with amazing service within walking distance of all the shopping and tourism you could ask for. The hotel was undergoing renovations as we stayed but not once was it intrusive or made to lessen our experience. The rooms are old and the age shows, but again the hotel is mid renovation. I fully plan to return once its completed! The staff were kind and helpful and the area around the hotel is so quiet youd never expect to be right by the hustle and bustle.

My first room wasn't particularly to my liking so they changed me to a different room and even offered to bring my luggage to the new room. That was really nice and and I was more than prepared to do it myself.

The hotel staff mainly speak Japanese, so for the average person I would recommend having google translate on your phone; for the more worldly travellers (or huge fans of Japanese culture) you are going to have a great time conversing with them in Japanese. I cannot stress how friendly they are.

The hotel's location might feel a bit out of the way, but the truth is it's perfect. It's RIGHT next to a bus terminal so you can get to Shibuya station easily; plus there's a lot of things within walking distance. Perfect placement

overnight stay after arrival to Tokyo

Good location , rooms are small but perfect for an overnight stay . Staff doesn't speak a lot of english but they try to be very helpful. We came on a family trip and this was our first stop. Got in very late at night and despite the hours they said to check in as long as we let them know we were going to be late they had no problem. Convenience stores and a family market just around the corner.We would stay here again.

I really enjoyed the traditional japanese aesthetic, it was small but made up for in scenery. They provided free water in the lobby and had daily housecleaning. The staff was super friendly always welcoming us and saying have a great day when we left. I would reccomend for a cheaper option, its fairly close to shibuya crossings.

This is such a special place and it gives you a little taste of traditional Japanese hospitality, while being in walking distance of Shibuya Crossing and Meguro. The staff here are incredible and make you feel so welcome. I stayed in a room without private toilet or shower, but it was honestly fine considering I never had to wait for the ones in the hall (which were individual and had locks in the inside). On the nights that I stayed here, I was mostly around the Shibuya crossing / scramble area. One night I went out to a bar and was able to stay out really late which was nice, because I could easily walk home. If you sty here, definitely check out the many lunch spots in the neighborhood within a five minute walk behind the hotel. It was a super cute, quiet neighborhood, which was a nice change from hectic Shibuya. Definitely recommend! One thing to note is that there is not an elevator, but this was not a problem for me.

Everyone was very kind and nice at the hotel. Rooms are slightly bigger than normal hotel rooms, which is a plus for winter travels as you’ll have bigger suitcase and more clothes. The bathroom however, are quite small and tight. Perfect for little me, but I can see problems for some of my bigger friends. As an idea, you can probably sit on the toilet, while brushing teeth. Overall, a very comfortable stay, 2 bus stops away from Shibuya Station, or a 15min walk.

I Have book the 5 bed, and yet they gave me as 2 adults room.Then worse of all they charge me two more adults. staff is very rude make excuse calling if want to make up room. Their check out time is 10am. I managed to return to the hotel five minutes before that. I was traveling by myself so not much stuff. I have done the packing previous night. Just need to get it from the room. However when the owner saw me, she showed me a very upset look. She complained that I might delay their cleaning of the room. When I went to the room to get my belongings, she even sent a worker to ask me hurry up. This all happened before 10am. I understand their concern but why can’t they wait until I was actual late! The face is while I was waiting in the lobby, I saw at least five groups of guests from other room checking out after 10am. Some of them actually checked out after 10:15am. The owner didn’t have the guts to complain a word. Just because I am a single woman traveling alone?

Another concern is the cleaness. The room looks OK. I accidentally dropped something so I bend down to the floor and found it under the bed. It was quite a scene under the bed. Very dirty. They can totally reach that part with a mop. However, since people normally will not see it, they don’t bother to clean it. It’s my typical impression of Japanese.

Will not recommend this place to other travelers!

Using Shibuya as your main station means the hotel is a little far away (15 min walk). Staff spoke enough English and were very friendly and helpful. The Japanese style room for 3 people was quite small when all the beds (futons) were laid out - not much room to walk around the futons. I’m not sure if our sheets were changed every day, or if our towels were just replaced. So the hairs on our pillows and sheets may have been our own, but some were a different colour so definitely weren’t. Only 1 key for a group, but you can leave the key at reception during the day. We were also able to borrow and knife and tray to cut up some fruit, which was helpful. Take shoes off upon entering and leave them in a locker with a key, which was very good and safe. Overall a nice experience, just would have like a little more room (very hard to find in Japan) and closer to the station.

The hotel is exactly as advertised as a ryokan. The main problem is that it allows smoking in the lobby, which is the only place to do work comfortably in a chair. In almost every way Japan is cleaner and healthier than the United States. But allowing smoking almost negates this advantage. We loved the ambience of staying in this style of hotel, but will never return because of the smoking.

Hotel was generally good. Our flight was severely delayed meaning we didn't get in until 3am luckily the taxi driver was able to call so we could get in. Despite having booked for 4 nights we were hounded from 7 am onwards on the morning we arrived to be ready to move rooms at 10 am and rudely moved at 10 am the morning on the first morning with minimal sleep. Other than this rudeness on the first morning and the inconvenience of needing to change rooms despite 4 days being booked the stay was otherwise good.

This is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay the night. I stayed in a single bed Western style room; it was small but comfortable and clean. The toilets and shower are communal but also very clean and nice, I hardly ever ran into other guests there. Free rice crackers, tea, and hot/cold water is provided. Staff was kind and could speak English well. There is a convenient FamilyMart right outside the hotel for food, and it’s only a 15 minute walk to Shibuya Crossing! I would definitely recommend this hotel for those on a budget.

Loved my futon, so much more comfortable than I expected. The bathroom was quite old fashioned but the water pressure was amazing so my shower was super.. Loved the Japanese style bath too, once I worked out how to use it. Again, the bathroom furniture is extremely dated but don't let that put you off, it's clean and the bath is incredibly soothing.

Very well manner staff team. This is a small hotel so do not expect things to be done for you. Room is nice and functional. We went in winter so the air-con was working very hard and did not always reach the desirable temperature. Otherwise it was very nice. convenient store is just right outside and a 24 hrs supermarket is just 3 minutes away. The strip towards Shibuya is full of restaurants, bars and cafe, very lively at night. The closest coin-laundry is 15 mins away near Shibuya so not too far.

Fukudaya was recommended by friends and they were right. It’s budget priced, but everything we needed. Lovely staff, great location, close to Shibuya, but we also explored around Shinsen Station. It’s nearer than Shibuya and a rewarding place in itself.

If your looking for a old Japanese style hotel.

If you are looking for a traditional Japanese style room. You found your place. When you walk in your room, you are welcome with a old room smell( kinda like your grand parents house). The restroom feels like a kindergarten bathroom and it's shared shower room. Overall if your looking for experience this is a good place but if your not. I would just look for a modern room.

Apparently preferred by those who go to Tokyo for martial arts practice. Austere. No food service. Tatami floor is in good condition. The bathroom not clean. Don't expect \"conventional\" hotel services. The location is not well known among taxi drivers. Need to carry the street address when outing. Not the traditional \"ryokan\" hotel.

Fifteen minute walk to downtown Shibuya

Very basic room--tatami floors and floor bedding in traditional Japanese style. Very small bathroom and somewhat cramped for a family but if you intend to use this hotel simply to sleep and bathe and spend most of your time out in Tokyo, then this place is very suitable. Warning: there are no chairs or tables--just a small coffee table. Two large closets available though and a television for Japanese shows. Most important--there is free Wi-Fi that worked excellently. Bus and taxi stops are just in front of hotel but we simply walked the short distance to Shibuya (15 minutes tops), to Shibuya station (Hachiko statue) and took the train to other parts of Tokyo. Hotel staff reasonably friendly and helpful--most speak good English. There is a vending machine in the lobby that dispenses free coffee and tea (hot and cold), as well as cold and hot water. Overall, we were happy with our choice and enjoyed the neighborhood immensely.

Japanese Inn for a traditional experience

If you prefer a Japanese-style room, it is a great choice. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the tatami mats fresh, and the futons as expected. They use traditional Japanese pillows, so anyone who prefers a soft one will be a bit disappointed, but this is a traditional inn not a cookie cutter hotel. A good choice if you want a traditional experience in Tokyo. (English assistance available.)

Good price overall ok for comfort

Location is great, a 15min walk or 5 min bus ride to the famous Shibuya crossing. Family Mart on the corner is super convenient as well. The futons were really not comfortable but that is what you get for a Ryokan so I can't blame them for that. Maybe not for a 6 night stay as we had but for a few days it's tolerable. The rooms were very humid and had an odor that was not very pleasant but it was clean. The hotel staff was not very vigilant with the smoking vs non-smoking room and we had to endure the smell of cigarettes. Staff was friendly enough and spoke enough english to answer our questions.
Overall good for the location and price

Really good location and nice staff. Rooms are comfortable. Only complaint is moldy smell from the bathroom...was pretty bad actually. I noticed there was an earlier review stating the same thing so the staff obviously haven't paid attention to this. Hope they address it.

Hotel Fukudaya is a nice place to sleep and bathe. That's about all you'll have time for at your hotel in a city like Tokyo, which has so much to do and see. The staff was incredibly friendly and the location was a walk or quick bus ride to Shibuya and Shibuya Station. From there you can basically get to anywhere you need to go in the city and surrounding area. Will definitely stay at Hotel Fukudaya again when I go back to Tokyo.

Fantastic hotel close to the heart of Shibuya

I stayed here for a week with my wife and brother-in-law in a Japanese style room. This meant tatami mats on the floor, shoji panels separating the restroom area from the main room, and no chairs. This was perfect for us as it gave a very nice and cozy feeling to the room; just like a second home! The mats were very comfortable and the blankets and pillows were perfect for a full night's rest. I absolutely loved our room!

This hotel shines in its fantastic service. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were also able to speak English without an issue, which is great because our Japanese is limited. They always greeted us with a friendly smile and a warm welcome whenever we returned from journeying through the city. What was also great was, as I am diabetic, they had a place for me to store my insulin at the front desk. Without any issues I was able to bring my medicine to the front desk and I was confident in knowing it would be waiting for me the next day.

As far as location goes, it's fantastic. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya's center, ensuring a quite night's sleep, but it's close enough that a 10-15 minute walk gets you to the station. There's plenty of food options and convenience stores nearby as well as a laundromat within 15 minutes walk as well. The location was absolutely perfect and I couldn't have been happier.

Everything about this place was fantastic and I would definitely stay here again!!

Good location, clean facilities

My mom, brother and I stayed here, and were quite pleased. Although centrally located (within about 15 minute walk from Shibuya Station), and close to a major thoroughfare, I didn't find it that noisy. Also, The ofuro/shower and toilet were both cleaner than some I've seen, although I missed the excellent \"washlet\" toilet found all over.

Traditional Hotel with it's flaws and upsidess

Hotel is in good location near walking distance from Shibuya crossing. It's traditional Japanese hotel, which is pretty nice experience if you haven't ever tried one. The down side was, that our room smelled like mold after water damage. If you don't mind about that, give it a go!

Hard to Find - Close to Tokyo Hot Spot

Take a taxi from the station - although it was not a long walk, we tried to follow directions and got a bit lost - in the rain. A taxi would have been worth the $7 - $10 to get there versus walking around with suitcases in the rain. The hotel is a great quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The bathroom was small (as was expected) but it is private and the room was sufficient for 3 or 4 adults. Front desk folks were nice, helpful, and always ready to assist when we had questions. I would return to this hotel because it was not a \"corporate\" hotel, it was reasonably priced and the staff were so nice.

Nice traditional Japanese inn

A very clean traditional Japanese inn located in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood close to the shibuya train station for use of JR train pass. We stayed in a traditional family room and we were comfortable.
