Unfortunately I have to say that this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had, in particular considering the expectations and the price paid (I paid USD 500 for two nights in the Junior Suite).
I’ve traveled extensively in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines) and for USD 250 per night you always get an amazing white glove experience.
The only outstanding feature here was the breakfast (although even here freshly squeezed orange juice instead of a tetra pak would have been nice considering the price).
The room was unfortunately not up to scratch. It wasn’t the advertised 45 square meters. The bathroom was just absolutely underwhelming and in need of renovation and maintenance (see pictures attached). All the details were just not up to standard (e.g. instead of some brand toiletries or at least nice ceramic dispensers, you had the cheapest IKEA plastic containers; no surprise given the Swedish ownership I guess).
They obviously bank on the location, but given that Luang Prabang is a peninsula between two rivers, basically half of all places have river view. And it’s not like it’s a private shore. There’s still a street and a park in between with lots of random people gawking up at your balcony.
Unfortunately this place was an absolute waste of money and disappointment. There are lots of other nice places (either at half the price or at a much higher standard) in LP.
Lastly I want to say that the staff did their best and are not at fault.

This property is outstanding in every way! The location was on the Mekong River. A beautiful location to enjoy from your patio or terrace. The room is clean, comfortable, unique and roomy. The staff are awesome! Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping and restaurant. They all were there to make my stay the most enjoyable and memorable time in Luang Prabang. The front desk staff helped me with many things. They secured train tickets, private tour drivers, taxi and similar services needed during my stay. The restaurant, wow! It oversees the Mekong River with a beautiful view! I feel best in Luang Prabang. The restaurant staff are amazing! The breakfast and dinner menu was so delicious (sap lai). Whether you are wanting Asian or western food. All is delicious! This property is a must for staying in Luang Prabang. I enjoyed it so much. I extended my stay TWICE!!! For a total of 13 nights!

If I were to return to Luang Prabang, I would definitely want to stay here again!

I absolutely loved staying at the Mekong Riverview Hotel.
It was in a great location, came with a free breakfast that was very nice, the woman in charge and her family did an incredible job of taking care of everybody’s needs and providing a great experience for all of us staying there. I actually felt like a member of their family by the time I left.
If I came back to Nong Khiaw , I would only stay with them and not even consider another place. I’m still thinking about the wonderful time I had there.

Excellent room with a balcony overlooking the Mekong river. Bedding is comfortable. The best surprise is the breakfast location outdoors along the bank of the Mekong river. Very pretty and relaxing. Delicious pure fruit juices and fresly baked croissants and baguettes worthy of Paris.

We've stayed in the Mekong Riverview Hotel several times over the past 7 years and it continues to be a lovely place to spend time. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable and we love the large balconies. The friendly staff are a highlight and they always do their best to accommodate any request you have. Breakfast is simple but delicious and comes with lovely views at the riverside restaurant.

Note: I recommend requesting a second floor room as vans tend to park out front during the day and block the river view from the balcony.

Mekong Riverview is an excellent option if you want to have a unique experience in Luang Prabang. It may not have the amenities of a five-star hotel, but I enjoyed it a lot more than staying at a cookie-cutter five-star hotel. The architectural distinctness, the sense of privacy, and most importantly, the helpfulness of staff made the stay so pleasant. In particular, they let me use my room after I checked out so I could stay in an air-conditioned room (not common in LP) until the taxi driver to the airport arrived.

I had a truly wonderful stay at this property and would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the entire team for their exceptional service. The staff were not only kind and welcoming, but also incredibly honest—a quality that stood out during my visit. On two separate occasions, I accidentally left cash in my clothing sent for laundry, and both times, the front desk promptly contacted me to return it. That level of integrity is rare and deeply appreciated.
The only minor downside was a temporary issue with the hot water and the water pressure in the bathroom. Fortunately, the hot water issue was quickly resolved, and it didn’t significantly impact my overall experience.
Highly recommended, and I would absolutely stay here again.

Excellent Hotel in Luang Prabang

Located right on the river, this hotel has excellent views and easy access to shops and restaurants. The breakfast was phenomenal and the setting was very scenic. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Now, not all reviews can be perfect so if I had one complaint, it would be that the water pressure in the shower could be slightly better, but as it was, it was fine.

This is by far one of the most beautiful hotels we've stayed! We absolutely love the arquitecture and the furniture. Our room faced the river. The room was spacious and so was the bathroom. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Every morning I looked forward to the breakfasts because they had lots of options, even for a vegetarian like me. In addition, the staff was professional, kind and very helpful.

Great location in a quiet area. Easily accessible to main streets and attractions . Especially enjoyed the free bikes offered. They also have a cute buggy they can take you to nearby places. Get home on your own. Rooms are spacious, clean and had a balcony with a view of the Mekong River. Breakfast place across the street overlooking the Mekong River. Service was excellent. Plenty of coffee offered. I especially enjoyed the mango and Pineapple shakes. Breakfast was mediocre and not much of a variety. Overall, I rate it 4.4 stars out of 5. I would highly recommend this place.

The location of this hotel is perfect. The hotel restaurant is on the river, where you can breathe in the beautiful scenery. breakfast is very good. The hotel rooms are charming and clean, the personal is amazingly friendly and useful. The are bikes to borrow . There is also free transportation to bring you to town, although we never used it as everything is at a walking distance from the hotel. We would definitely go back!

This hotel was excellent. Noi and his staff were outstanding. Their service could not have been better. They would help with anything that I needed. They arranged great transportation for myself and two friends to Nong Khiaw in the north and a return. Upon my return I also stayed there. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. For an added treat, the beds can have the head or foot area, raised and lowered with power. It is a short walk into town, and the hotel also provides transport in their own open air electric cars. All in all 10/10.

The hotel is located in a great location; close to all the eateries, coffee shops, night/morning markets. Our balcony view is overlooking the Mekong river which we enjoyed the sunset/sunrise daily. Spacious clean room with items in the refrigerator are complimentary to our stay including shampoo, conditioners, body gel, comb, shaver, toothbrushes, slippers and robes. Delicious breakfast is provided daily across from the hotel at the viewpoint cafe which includes fresh fruits, croissant, crepes, pho, omelette, and coffee. Also, the hotel provides excellent laundry wash services at $4 per kilogram (2.2 pounds) with the same day turnaround time. Noi and Bounpheng at the hotel has been outstanding with their service in helping us book our tours and arrangements for transportation to/from the airport. Very pleased with our stay; until next time.

Nice breakfast at their riverside cafe located just across the street, which also offers lunch and dinner. Easy walk to the attractions in the historic area. Hotel staff arranged transportation to Kwang Si waterfall and Pak Ou cave. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t have changed anything.

We are so happy to have found this hotel. Great location, wonderful room but the service was best part - absolutely incredible. Noi was a star and helped us arrange taxis, recommended things to do and helped us with booking train tickets.
The toilet and shower are in separate rooms and it was nice to finally have wooden doors (don’t know why other hotels think glass doors on toilets are necessary). The shower room comes with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. As well as toothbrushes and a comb. You also get dressing gowns and slippers for your stay.
The bed can be adjusted, so you can raise the head or the feet and the mattress was comfortable. The balcony was lovely with views of the river - I loved sitting out there to read my book. Mosquito spray is essential.
Breakfast was included in a little restaurant over the road. I loved the banana pancakes. We asked to wash clothes and the hotel did it for us at $4 a kilogram. We handed it over in the morning and it was in our room, washed and pressed, by lunchtime.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Everything is likable about this hotel. It has that wonderful old world, with wooden floors, antique cabinetry in the rooms, and a great great location. In addition to the hotel, its restaurant sits nicely at the convergence of the Mekong, and another River, offering a great viewpoint and offering great food. My favorite of the Journey. So I'm taking a long vacation with the Wife and we've been to Paris, Amsterdam, Vientiane, and Loung Probang. This is my favorite hotel of the journey, its a beautiful hotel with every modern amenity reasonable for this area. The view is breathtaking, more than that its a historic site a former royal vacation palace that has been converted to a hotel but they kept the old royal accents and heirloom items in the rooms so each suite is slightly different. If you love history or dynamic views and super easy walking access to most of the Luang Prabang area this is the spot, its walking distance to a sacred shrine, the night market, and great food places as well.

Yet, there were some mishaps/flaws: e.g. the rainshower was broken and unusable, the room door was left wide open after cleaning and also the announced and seemingly very nice restaurant (also pool and spa) are not on site, and the restaurant was not even open for breakfast at this time.

One of the best independent hotels in the world; personal, classic chic with one of the best breakfast rooms (photo) you’ll ever have.
I would like the hotel to work harder to cut down on the number of plastics used (maybe give guests the option to have a single water drum for their stay instead of 5 smaller bottles a day?)
The owner has done so much good for the heritage and the community the above comment should not take away from that.

Perfect quiet stay in the historic part of town. The breakfasts on the Mekong were epic and most trips could be arranged to your liking. I found the hotel staff to be expert in understanding the needs of different guests and giving them what they ask for, not always the most expensive option. Staff is able to arrange about anything, and will hook you up with great drivers that make the vacation more enjoyable, because they are not just drivers, but will quickly become friends. Laos has wonderful people with an open heart, this hotel was a great place to exprience Luang Prabang. I would return again next year if I have the option.

The hotel is well maintained, attentive, with views of the confluence of the two rivers especially from the viewpoint cafe. I felt taken care of the whole time. The hotel is at the very top of the isthmus and thus quiet and away from the little hustle and bustle there is, and also farther to walk. If you take one of their bikes, everything is just a few minutes away. We would definitely stay again.

This is one of the best hotels I’ve visited anywhere. The room was beautiful, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and the view was amazing. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again in Luang Prabang!

Clean and comfortable overlooking river

Great location at the confluence of the two rivers. Room had veranda overlooking the Mekong. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom nice and clean. Staff was nice and helpful. Owner had a wine reception at the hotel's restaurant, which sits above the riverbank, right at the confluence.

A perfect stay

We had a fantastic stay here. The hotel and the staff are wonderful. Every aspect of our stay was perfect. The staff are all very pleasant and accomodating. Our room was very spacious, with a comfortable bed and spacious living area and bathroom. The room was clean and well maintained. We had a lovely view of the river from our balcony. We would love to return to Luang Prabang and stay here again. Thank you for your hospitality.

A great experience

There may be hotels that are nicer in Laos, but this one is plenty nice. It is right on the Mekong ever so slightly out of the way (by 2 blocks), but I think that makes it a bit quieter. There isn't major construction going on at all times because of the location. Also, the Manager has built a cute little park area. I adore the fact he has evenings where the guests all meet each other. Also, he greets people at breakfast. Such a nice touch. The lobby and staff are wonderful. They give you a lift around town, which makes an issues with the location a mute point. They also have bikes that are free for guests to use. The fridge in the room is well-stocked with a host of beverages, also included. This place was just lovely and worth every penny.

Solid stay, just not worth $200+ a night.

Solid stay. Great service from staff. Nice room. Only complaints are the hotel is right on the street and is noisy. Conclusion is that with noise, hotel is not worth $200+ per night in spite of all other solid aspects of the stay. Also, a previous occupant of our room must have been a smoker ... even if they did not smoke in the room, they leave a trace of their smoking.

Wonderful location and outstanding service

Beautiful location. A bit outdated lobby and rooms but clean room and comfortable electric beds. There is a fridge with complimentary daily water and soft drinks. Bathroom has toilet in a separate room. We stayed at two rooms consecutively and one of them had a tiny space enclosing the toilet.
The staff are wonderful and service outstanding and this is what made our stay enjoyable and memorable. Free bikes and also free drop off by electric carts to places in the city.
The Cafe has an adequate breakfast and wonderful view.
