A historic building just off the square, this beautiful B & B never fails. The owner, Ruth, goes out of her way to make sure that you have a comfortable stay, bathed in luxury and quality. places like this are few and far between these days. Superb!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Old Stores B&B in Montgomery. From the moment we arrived, we were given such a warm and genuine welcome that instantly made us feel at home. Ruth went above and beyond to make sure every detail is perfect, including the amazing Welsh cakes.

The property itself is beautifully decorated, with a perfect blend of charm and comfort. Every room is thoughtfully styled, spotlessly clean, and incredibly cosy – you can really tell how much care has gone into creating such a relaxing atmosphere.

The breakfast was fantastic, with high-quality ingredients and plenty of choice to start the day right. Combined with the peaceful surroundings, it made for a truly memorable stay.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Old Stores B&B and will definitely be returning. A real gem!

A little bit of fairytale luxury

This has to have been one of the loveliest places we've ever stayed - every single detail had been thought of, and Ruth, the host, was just fabulous.

The bed, bedding, free-standing bath, decor, snuggle bathrobes, decor, styling, cleanliness, warmth and welcome were all 5-star. The breakfast was also amazing; freshly-squeezed orange, locally-sourced full Welsh breakfast, accompanied by homemade bread and marmalade and countless cups of quality tea, and all served on the most beautiful china.

Montgomery itself is a little fairytale village, and The Old Stores feels like an extension of the story - visiting in the spooky season, with gold and red leaves painting the trees and pavements, rain pattering against the window, and Hallowe'en decorations everywhere, just added to the perfection. Next time we'll stay longer than the one night!

Outstandingly Beautiful House

Not sure how old this place is but it's fantastic to have the opportunity to stay here in a place that must have seen so much history.
Montgomery itself is a gem - declaring an interest I grew up a few miles away and am fairly familiar with \"Monty\" - and though this visit is a wedding crashpad, we'll definitely take the opportunity to bumble around after we check out.

Bottom line? Stay here, you won't regret it in the slightest.

This is a superb b and b in fact the best I’ve stayed in. The room was large, comfortable bed, large shower and bath. Fluffy towels. Wide choice for breakfast which was excellent. It is in the upper price bracket but worth it. I would return here.

Fabulouso!!
Ruth was a lovely hostess, very warm and welcoming.
This period property was very well maintained, cosy and decorated tastefully.
Amazing bathroom, comfortable bed, Welsh cakes a very nice touch and a breakfast full of fine ingredients - down to the homemade marmalade which we bought a jar!
We will most definitely return!

Really beautiful B&B. The house has so much character and lovely antique furniture. Brekkie was fab too. We are at Checkers on the square in the evening and the food was great, but service was really slow, so if you’re thinking of doing the same, book an early table. Thanks very much for having us!

Treasure of find in mid Wales.

We had a wonderful night stay at The old stores. Ruth was so lovely and welcoming. The room was beautiful with a large bed and gorgeous furnishings, the ensuite was huge with a separate shower and stand alone bath, with large fluffy towels, wonderful. Our breakfast was the best we have had staying in boutique B&Bs. We will go back and stay a few more nights in the future.

Booked two rooms and they were fantastic, Ruth is the most hard working host I have ever met, her attention to detail is brilliant. I will stay again as it is so relaxing and peaceful. Room, breakfast and host cannot be beaten, ten out of ten every time. Home made marmalade with fresh local produce, so tasty.

Amazing Host

One of the best places I have ever stayed, Ruth is fantastic as a host. The rooms are really clean and provide everything you need away from home, little touches like Welsh cake on the side, a fridge with milk, bath robes and slippers. You also have access to a lounge with TV and also a rear courtyard. Rooms are spacious and bathrooms have shower and bath. The linen is wonderful, great quality and so quiet, did not hear a thing which is great considering you are in the middle of town. Ruth cooks an amazing breakfast and also provides home made marmalade. Lovely building.

Booked in for an overnight stay while attending a wedding at Garthmyl Hall. Great welcome and very flexible on an early check in to drop our bags and change clothes before the afternoon wedding. Really impressive property, every bit as good as the photos. A hearty breakfast made to order. Highly recommended for a stay in a quaint Welsh village of Montgomery.

Beautifully presented distinguished building of real age that had been purposed for the present century. Most comfortable bed, brilliant shower and a huge tub. Breakfast was excellent - great local produce (sausage was very special) and home made marmalade. Host was friendly but didn't crowd me. Montgomery is charming (excellent bookshop!) so I hope to visit again.

Ruth was a lovely host, treating us so kindly from the moment we got there. We were given homebaked goods, leaflets on the locality, trails for walking and tips on the events going on over the next days. There a lovely local shops, and any amount of cycling and walking trails, all made very accessible by the town.
The house is gorgeous, the bedroom was luxurious and homely at the same time, and made you feel really at home.
There was a very convenient and cheap bus from Shrewsbury that stopped right outside the door of the B&B.
No doubt about it we will be back!!

The Old Stores is a beautiful property which is well looked after by the proprietor Ruth.
Ruth gave us a very warm welcome, even giving us some homemade Welsh cakes on arrival which were very tasty and welcoming after our journey. Our room was quite large , spotlessly clean and furnished to match the age of the property. The bathroom was enormous with a lovely freestanding roll top bath and a roomy rainfall shower.
Breakfast was really good, we both opted for the Welsh breakfast. Every ingredient was very tasty and locally sourced.
I would thoroughly recommend The Old Stores and Ruth to anyone wishing to stay in Montgomery.

We had a lovely long weekend staying at the Old Stores in Montgomery. Our hostess was really nice and helpful. The room was spacious and clean with really useful features such as the little fridge. The shower was nice and large and the bath really good for relaxing after a long walk. The breakfast was great every day with a number of options available. There was plenty to do locally. We would certainly happily return here again in the future.

Fantastic accommodation. If every B&B was like this we would never stay in a hotel again. Amazing luxury property, individually decorated with great taste. Sumptuous sheets and towels, spotlessly clean, spacious bedroom and enormous bathroom with separate bath and walk in shower. A choice of delicious breakfast options cooked and served by Ruth our wonderful host and interesting lady. Sunny weather and idyllic private courtyard with chairs, lounger and cushions. All the luxuries of a nice hotel with the added bonus of a B&B personal touch. Ruth helped with recommendations and was generally very accommodating our whole stay. We enjoyed hearing local stories.
