The place is amazing, really well maintained and decorated. The staff were really attentive and helpful, especially Karen who did breakfast - she was fantastic with our kids and they couldn't wait to see her on our second morning! Food was lovely and room was very well equipped! We will be back!

My wife and I stayed here for two nights over a weekend. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the lasy looking after breakfast. The room was lovely and clean and well furnished. The grounds around the hotel are amazing and so well maintained.

The room was comfortable albeit a little small. Kept stubbing my toe on the bed frame. The fan was a small desk fan, suggest these be upgraded to tower fans that are a little quieter. Breakfast was tasty and there was a good selection. Great views, great scenery. Suggest you highlight the woodland walks more.

Stunning place to visit.

Everything was wonderful. The staff were great. Just the bed felt like it was the original from the 18 hundreds. It was seriously uncomfortable.
Such a pity as the rest of our stay was absolutely fabulous and I commend the staff for how attentive they all were.
The building from the outside is absolutely stunning and I would really recommend visiting.

Underwhelming and poor value

In a word 'underwhelming'. Lovely looking building, ideal location for me, but very overpriced for what it was (I stayed in a different hotel 2 nights later which was 25% cheaper and several times better) and generally poor. OK dinner but lousy breakfast. The two clues was there at the start 1. Outside such a beautiful and grand building was a little metal 'swing sign' for the brand of coffee they serve - extremely tacky, not in keeping with the environment and made worse by is being pretty horrible coffee! 2. Man on reception had details ready which was good and quick but then led me to my room without even offering to carry my suitcase. Set a poor tone.
On the plus side, the ground floor rooms were lovely - very cosy and comfortable, comfortable bed and a good strong shower.

A winter treat

Our visit to Mellington Hall Country House Hotel was fantastic. The property is amazing, the staff were really attentive and amazing also. The food was superb and the service throughout was exceptional. After the meal we sat in the lovely building which has quiet rooms or an open fire. We went just before Christmas and so the property was probably quieter than during the summer months, but we definitely would return to enjoy walking in the surrounding countryside. A fantastic hotel and fantastic staff, we really enjoyed our visit.

Stayed in Room 1 The Mellington suite which is a lovely room, fabulous views, feature four poster bed and a huge jacuzzi bath. Had both lunch and dinner and the Food and drink were very good. I can recommend the Porterhouse steak, absolutely delicious. All local produce and excellent wines from tanners of Shrewsbury. Cask ales and flagon cider were also very good. The staff and the locals are friendly and welcoming . Also met the owners who were also very welcoming and told us all about the history of the hall.
Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Check in nightmare

I arrived later in the evening to check out, firstly the sat nav took me down lots of one car lanes and kept taking me to a gate at the rear of the property that couldnt be acessed. Then when i arrived around 10pm ther hotel was pitch black and locked up. I was banging on the door and windows in the dark and cold for 15 mins, then I went round the back of the property in darkness and found a number to ring a guy called Paul who managed the caravan park, he was very kind and managed to get in the hotel and sort a room for me, i was cold and distressed at this point. I did try to call the hotel numerous times to let them know about the late check in but no answer on the phone.

A stunning property in a gorgeous location. We we're in roon 9 overlooking the rear lawn & towards the caravan site, which sound incongruous but the site is stunning. The room was recently renovated in a French style, which was beautiful. The towels & dressing gowns fluffy, the bed firm & cozy and tea, coffee & biscuits in the room. The Welsh breakfast was extremely tasty & the staff helpful. Amazing 👏 ❤️

Lovely stay at the Mellington Hall Country House Hotel. The food was excellent, the breakfast was lovely. Staff all brilliant too and rooms comfortable and spacious. Everything you cna expect from a good country house hotel. The manager went out of his way to make sure we had a pleasant stay and was extremely warm and welcoming. The whole experience was a credit to the beautiful surroundings.

We stayed in a family suite for an evening, I have to admit the bed was really soft, so much so any movement made it wobble like a water bed! Gave us a good laugh. The view was amazing, the grounds astounding, and the hotel picturesque and so quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves walking around the grounds, and mobile home site as well.
Staff were amazing! So friendly, couldn't fault them. We even had help carrying bags to our room, which we've never had anywhere else we've stayed before.
The breakfast was delicious, one thing I would state is that the breakfast bap came as a sesame seed bun (I didn't see it stated on the menu) but once I'd removed the seed layer it was delicious! I had seconds on the croissants as they were so fresh & light.
One or two minor niggles, the room was dusty in areas, the sofa under the seats had been missed when cleaning, the bath panel was cracked, & there were tea/coffee stains on the unit drawers below the hospitality tray. The sheets didn't fit the bed, & the quilt was a bit small, but as I said minor niggles.
The one I did forget to mention is there was no access to any hd channel on the t.v. hence there was no access to any bbc channel. Plenty of other channel options though.
One word for those who don't like spiders, we had quite a few long legged friends but the hotel is a countryside one so that can't be helped.
We would quite happily stay again.

Character and good service in a splendid setting

We stayed here for one night after attending a wedding near by. We arrived at 10 pm in heavy rain and were warmly welcomed at the door by the owner who quickly checked us in and showed us to our room. Next morning we woke to sunshine and wonderful views to the surrounding hills. Breakfast was very good and service was excellent. Fellow EV drivers may be interested to know that free charging is offered to guests upon request - according to the hotel directory in our room. We didn’t register seeing this on the hotel web page. The building has many historic features and has the normal quirks of an old building such as slightly sloping floors in places. We would certainly be happy to return here and stay longer as there is plenty to see and do in the wider region.

Staff very kind and accommodating. Large wedding in progress blocked the entire front of hotel and front entrance(where signs indicated check-in). I was walking and very ready to reach my room, but wandered around back, sides of building, before finally entered through some back door...By this time, wedding guests had seriously clogged the entire lobby and pub. Fought my way to the bar, finally, and found staff immediately very sympathetic and as obliging, as possible under circumstances. An email warning of scheduled event would have been appreciated, and/or appropriate temporary signage directing diversion for check-in. Staff was super, but wedding party too large for venue. Grounds and room lovely and very comfortable, except seriously, and quickly overflowing, shower stall. Old building and unlevel plumbing, I was explained, but again, a head's up needed and some kind of fix really needed, as there were, literally inches of water outside shower before I realized. Breakfast was excellent, and, to repeat staff, as well.

Really beautiful property and grounds. Staff at check in and departure were nice and friendly.
The bedroom was clean and comfortable.
Travelling solo but the place felt safe.
Breakfast was ok, the solitary pastry (more had appeared when I was on my way out so it was probably my timing although it was only 8:30) was quite dry but lots of juice on offer along with yogurts- but not a fan. Other guests seem to have been offered the option of a cooked breakfast, but I was only give the option of tea or coffee and toast when someone serving finally appeared.

Slow service let’s it down

Good reception when we arrived. We needed to get an evening meal, so tried to book a table and was told just to come to the restaurant when we were ready!
Upon arrival at restaurant we were told they had no room and lead us to an adjoining room that was quite small and dark!!
Not very happy, although after complaining they then found us a table in the main restaurant area
After then ordering the food we had a wait of over an hour before it arrived although it was very nice when it did arrive
The room was a bit dated and run down with most of the furniture being laminated chipboard that had become damaged, but the bed was very comfortable
Breakfast the following morning was very good and plentiful , and the service a lot quicker
Overall we would recommend that if you needed to get an evening meal that you look at the menu beforehand and then retire to the bar for a drink, and get them to seat you in the restaurant when the food is ready
Which would have been a better idea for us!!

Beautiful surroundings, large bedrooms, and bathrooms, comfortable beds, breakfast and evening meal very nice. Afternoon tea excellent. Only problem was two guests had mobility issues and stairs were challenging, but that is our lack of research rather than anything else. Vicky was in particular excellent, nothing was too much trouble, very professional whilst being friendly and helpful.

Wow, what a fantastic hotel. Exceptional in every way. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and informal in that they made you feel like you were at home. Food and drinks were very good and reasonably priced. Location great with plenty of walks around the local woods and fields.

The property was majestic as you drive in, the room was spacious and had all the amenities you may require. The grounds were beautiful Great atmosphere in the bar, found dining in the small second dining room a bit bar, some of the cutlery was not clean. Bit of a hassle checking out had booked through a company and took a while to sort out. Staff were great.

Very tired and needs some investment

The hotel location was excellent and it’s a beautiful period building .
We stayed in room - the only room without a picture (other than the headboard) which should’ve been a sign .
Room was small and very tired , stained carpets and bathroom was horrendous . The other rooms recently refurbished did look a lot better .
The food was reasonably priced and good , the staff helpful and friendly , but the room was not worth £160 per night
Would not recommend and will not be going back .

Very clean & comfortable. Amazing historical hall in a beautiful location. Good service from very friendly staff. Food very good & reasonably priced.
Only minor problem we were given a check in time off 2pm to 10pm. On arriving at approx 2.15 we found the doors locked. A call to an out of hours number posted at the door went to a messaging service to which we have never had a reply.
Fortunately a fellow guest who happened to be in car park informed us it was a 4pm ckeck in. We therefore had to alter our plans.
All in all though a very enjoyable stay.

lovely Stately home, but with excellent plumbing!

The rooms have recently been referferbished to a high standard.

The menu was not particularly exciting, but the food exceeded expectations.

When you visit go into the William Morris room. It is amaizing.

Wow wow wow! Amazing hotel!!! Honestly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in! Hotel was absolutely immaculate, the deluxe room was totally amazing, the view was outstanding and the staff were amazing!

We also had afternoon tea and it was the best we ever had!!! They gave us a selection of the gentleman’s afternoon tea and the normal one…. There was so much food we couldn’t eat if all and took the rest to our room!!

A really truly beautiful hotel that is run by truly amazing people!
