The only complaint was no air conditioning. They had a fan in the closet, but it didn't help.

A great hostel with very friendly staff. They helped store our bags both before check in and after checking out. The room we had was comfortable and large and although no air-conditioning a fan was supplied.

BEST CHOICE FOR SANTIAGO
Rey Fernando was one of the best places we found in our trip around Spain & Portugal. Our flight from Bilboa was delayed so we arrived very late after the 10:00pm curfew for registration. By phoning them they kindly arranged for our late arrival and entrance in such a courteous way that our nerves were calmed. Wonderful location, Wonderful facilities and just great people all around.Hope they can accommodate us next time. We had a private room for our famlly of 3.

Very central location, easy walking distance from railway station and the airport bus stop. Slightly strange being inside a block of flats, but the room was comfortable with a lovely bathroom. Slightly noisy with the window open, you can hear activity in apartments below and above. Very friendly welcome at reception, shops and restaurants closeby. Not far to walk up to the main cathedral and sights.

As far as I remember, during the reservation process through Expedia, no information was provided about the location of the hostal on the sixth floor of a building. For us the worst thing was the very small elevator it has. We could not fit with the wheelchair on it. They are now building another elevator bigger than the current one. Supposed to be ready for this coming summer. We want to mention that the staff attention was excellent any time. They took care of us in the best way possible for them. The office and rooms are on the 6th floor. Unfortunately for us, the day we arrived, the elevator was being serviced so we had to walk up with our luggage, up and down, 6 floors if we wanted to go out. On the 3rd day, we were able to use the elevator and what a difference! If it was like this the entire stay of 3 nights, I would have given a higher rating. Advantage is the closeness to bus/train station, literally a 5 minute walk. A bit of a walk to St. James Cathedral, but it was fine. It was maybe 10-15 minutes. What I didn’t like, was the one long pillow for 2 people to share. I would like, and I’m sure most people would like, 2 separate pillows. It was a basic room, nothing fancy, but did the job.

Not really a hotel, as there are no facilities like restaurant or bar, but our room was basic, but pleasant enough. We were facing the street and had big windows, so it was light and airy, but, from what I could glimpse from the inside rooms, they were a lot smaller and darker. Very good value for money, though, as Santiago is expensive and after all, there is a lot to see and do, so very little time is spent in room anyway. Good distance from cathedral (main attraction) and old town. And very near bus and train station. Also plenty of little cafés nearby, for breakfast etc.

Hidden gem!
Great place! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious, quiet, and the bed was SUPER comfortable! Easy walking to old town. The neighborhood has lots of supermarkets, shops, and restaurants nearby. We were there on a rainout day, and there was a great pool hall one block away to pass the rainy afternoon. Good burger restaurant across the street. Highly recommend!

Typical, pleasant, small private room perfect for the end of the pilgrimage when needing quick or early access to the train/bus station. Clean, friendly and easy night entry even after the reception closes. Quiet, never heard any of the neighbours. Fan in the room which was nice given the heat of the late summer.

Great place for a short overnight stay. Arrival a breeze. Staff don’t speak English well but managed well. Room is basic but having to remember it’s cheap and location for us to train station is perfect. Only a short 10 minute walk to cathedral area. Will be happy to stay again next year when doing another Camino.

Very close to train station, and I had a very early train to catch. It was also outside the main Camino tourist area.

Our stay at Rey Fernando was great. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, gave us directions, booked our taxi, and gave tips on where to go in Santiago to help make visit even more memorable. It was a bit farther from the cathedral than our tired feet (after the Camino) had hoped for but the walk was very manageable. I would book again.

This hotel is located on one floor of a multistoried building. The staff is very nice and helpful and the room was clean and had everything I required except a quiet place to actually sleep. I am a light sleeper apparently and the noise from the other floors went long into the night - as is the norm in that part of the world. There is no air conditioning and in the spring/summer in Spain it is much needed. It was incredibly hot during my stay and leaving the windows closed was not an option which only increased the noise level. Wifi was good at times - best in the common area.

The staff and owners are wonderful, warm people who will make you feel at home instantly! They let me store my luggage, after flying into Santiago, staying a couple days with them before heading out to start the Camino in Sarria; then to walk back to Santiago. They didn't charge a storage fee.
All the other sights of Santiago are a short walk, or bus ride away. Train station is two blocks away. Many restaurants and market very nearby. Great coffee and continental breakfast for nominal fee. They go out of their way to guide you, and give you directions to anywhere you want to visit in town.

The parking is free but the security is rather awkward and tedious. The location was just over 2km from the Cathedral on a quiet street. There aren't many food options in the immediate vicinity, but there are many within 15 minutes walk.

Difficult to find. Hotel is in a residential building but no signage I could find to say the hotel lobby was on the 6th floor. Book a single room, got a room with three beds but no chair or table. Tired and needs update. Just clean enough.

Average hotel in a decent place
It's a very average and aged hotel in a strategically good place - a minute walk from train station and 10-15 minutes to the city center. Room walls are quite thin, so the comfort of your sleep will heavily depend on your neighbors. Rooms are clean but everything inside is showing it's age. All in all, if you are looking for a night or two in Santiago with an intention to return to hotel only to sleep and rest and don't expect a lot, this might be a good choice.

Don´t expect anything
The bathroom floor got flooded after taking a shower, and it didn't dry during our one night stay at the hotel. The hotel was quite empty, but you could still hear everything that was said and done in the close-by rooms. It's ok for one night, but that's it.

Staying awhile after walking the El Camino?
I finished the camino faster than expected and had a few extra days to play. I chose the Hotel Rey Fernando strictly for its location to begin, however, I have been completely surprised and inspired by their willingness of the reception staff to help. They gave me a great rate for this area, showed me how to get to the train station which is 5 minutes walk..very convenient if you are traveling elsewhere as I did and they even kept most of my backpack gear so I didn't have to lug it to Porto, Portugal. I just returned a day early, the staff remembered me and immediately made space for me. Also, all my belongings including my iPad, four compostellas and hiking gear where returned intact and clearly not messed with. Today, is the World Cup Finals and I didn't want to deal with the crowds so the staff recommended I order in Chinese (can't believe it) and stay in the lounge to watch the game. Great location, lovely staff and less than 10 minutes walk to the cathedral where I have spent the day but the nights are too noisy, crowded and expensive. Consider Hotel Rey Fernando if you aren't afraid to walk an extra few minutes to the historic district and have quality service. ASIDE: The shower in the bathroom fell off the hook and sprayed the ceiling. I was worried about this and today the ceiling was all clean, Someone had to work to get to that. Thank you to the very friendly and kind staff. You made my extra days extra nice.

I intended to stay a week. Bad start as hotel on 6th floor. Very basic small single room with very small bed and old TV, limited channels. Could not connect to Wi-Fi.
No option for the continental breakfast, just a croissant and a roll of bread left on a plate, that's it and coffe or tea.
All in all very disappointed and checked out as soon as I could with their 24 hours policy.

Happy with our accommodation
The address which is shown is the side of the hotel and our first impression was not the best however on turning the street the front facade is quite acceptable. We were very happy with the interior and were very happy with the cost of drinks, laundry and breakfast. Most of the staff spoke English and were very happy. Very happy with the value for money.

Camera angusta troppo piccola per tre persone, avevano infatti aggiunto una brandina, se pur comoda, in una stanza matrimoniale per due persone. Personale gentilissimo, purtroppo al colazione non era compresa ma nella hall sono presenti dei distributori di bevande fredde e calde e di snack. Nei pressi della stazione treni a 15 minuti a piedi dal centro.

La struttura è una pensione (non un hotel) posto al 6 piano di una palazzina. Personale molto scortese al momento del check in. Le stanze sono completamente prive di insonorizzazione, si sente tutto, dai passi su corridoi, alle conversazioni Bell stanze accanto ai mille caffè del distributore nella hall. Impossibile dormire. Al llegar me dicen que no tengo reserva, me tengo que poner a buscar la reserva y aún así la recepcionista me dice que NO, que no tengo aquí y que es posible que me haya equivocado de hotel

Hace llamada a la compañera que estuvo por la mañana y esta sin pedir documentación ni nada aloja en mi habitación a una persona de Hungría, en una reserva con un nombre claramente español sin más.
En resumen, me cambian de habitación por otra que no era la mía, de peor calidad y sin poder atender a las peticiones que hice al reservar el hotel, porque las mismas las tenía el ciudadano húngaro que en ese momento no sabían ni quién era.

PÉSIMA EXPERIENCIA EN REY FERNANDO
Nuestra experiencia no fue la mejor. Nos asignaron una habitación super pequeña, partiendo del hecho de que habíamos cambiado la reserva de dos noches a una y en la página de Hoteles.com fué aprobada, pero al parecer a ellos no les apareció reflejada y nos quitaron nuestra reserva. En ese momento la situación se volvió algo aspera de parte del personal de recepción, fué de lo peor y despectivo. Nos ofrecieron entonces una habitación a regañadientes SUPER PEQUEÑA (COMO DE 2,5x2,5) pero fué lo peor, el ruido, el calor, el colchón super durísimo, las almohadas peor, en el hotel ( que se hacen llamar hotel pero en realidad es como una pensión de un piso 6 de un edificio cualquiera) el personal de limpieza hace mucho ruido, en fin tuvimos mi esposo y yo una experiencia super horrible, para nada los recomiendo. Lo único que podría decir a favor es que sí era muy limpia la habitación, por lo demás nada nada fué satisfactorio, prácticamente no pudimos dormir esa noche de la incomodidad.
La verdad es que tuvimos una muy mala impresión de la PENSIÓN REY FERNANDO. NOLA RECOMIENDO.

La sensación final es que es una pensión a precio de hotel. Lo mejor el colchón, muy cómodo. Mi habitación, pequeña, daba a un patio de luces, con lo que éso conlleva de ruidos del vecindario.
