Our stay at the Sand Dunes Motel was such a pleasant experience. The staff were so helpful and kind, the rooms were clean, and the beach view (even on the first floor) was stunning. The pool was also very clean, and the beach access was very convenient. Looking forward to staying here again in the future!

Excellent location. Easy access with sufficient parking (on both sides of the building). Very friendly, attentive staff. Full kitchenette (full size fridge, small gas stove, microwave, coffee maker). Surprisingly large room and bathroom (\"oceanview\", 2 queens) and good size balcony with fantastic views. Good amenities. The only \"mismatches\" are \"shot\" upholstery on table chairs (put some seat covers on) and small and useless Roku TV (couldn't get out of the main menu: remote issue? But who needs TV with such views and things to do?). IMPORTANT (save the confusion): the hotel services are \"remote\", but the shared (contracted?) front desk is right next door (The Admiral's Quarters, blue building). Your door code won't work until you pay $3+tax of local tax, and that's something not added to the bill online (I don't recall specific instructions: add to the email and text message). Park, go there and pay something like $3.74, and then proceed to your room. Our personal finding: door lock keypad is \"slow\" on waking up. Press the \"check mark\" button (bottom left), wait few seconds for \"grumbling\" to finish, and then type your 4-digit code and press the \"check mark\" button again.
Overall, well worth of our time and money, and we'd stay there again. Thank you.

Great location, right on the beach and walking distance to the pier and a few shops/food. Short drive to more stuff at Carolina Beach. WiFi was fast enough for my demanding family of tech workers and teenagers.

The kitchen didn’t have much in it—if you’re planning to cook in the kitchen, I would bring pretty much everything from home. The coffee maker is a regular drip and requires filters, which we needed to buy. The coffee provided is the kind that’s like a teabag you put in the drip maker, and is therefore not great. There’s no kettle. The bowls were plastic and I wouldn’t microwave them. No can opener. Sharing these details not as a criticism but as info for others to know what to bring.

The room very clean beautiful scenery and didn't have to worry about carrying a key . They had a key pad with a code. I thought that was neat. The kitchen had the basic things you needed. The staff very friendly and nice and very helpful. 3 floor but the down fall was no elevator. They have a few restaurants in walking distance and it's close to the pier. It's a old looking place but looks can be deceiving ,very very nice I would stay again

It’s at the beach. What more do you really need to say . The whole point of this property is that it is beachfront. Your room has a view of the beach. Your balcony has a view of the beach and you’re literally steps away from the beach. Due to the humidity, you do get a bit of an odor in the room. Kind of musty. But clearly the air conditioner is too large for the space. So that makes it a little worse for the humidity and the clamminess in the room. And the air conditioner is very loud.

While we did not use it, the pool looks fantastic clean and warm. There was plenty of people enjoying the pool.

It’s kind of old and the maintenance is a little deferred, but everything is functional.
It’s located in a very quiet part and there’s only a couple restaurants around but you’re a five minute drive down to Carolina Beach where there’s tons of activity. And only a couple minutes away from Fort Fisher Museum, and beach. Which is pretty cool to see.

The beds were extremely comfortable. The TV is terrible, but you’re not there to watch TV. And to John and Janet, you should not leave your prime account logged in. I could’ve rented or added any service I wanted. lol

The room was clean and big enough with good access and view of the beach. Kitchen was equipped enough of useful utensils. Somewhat of an oversight is the loud smoke detector almost directly in the vicinity of the stove and oven where smoke will definitely rise if you are cooking. Hence, the alarm blared while we were cooking.

You can tell that they are making efforts to modernize the rooms, so in that sense it was better than the pictures made it seem. The biggest gripe I have about my stay was the adjoining rooms and the zero sound insulation between the rooms. The whole week there were loud people in the room next to me that made it quite unenjoyable. The other thing that I don’t love is because they don’t always have a staff member working onsite, we were kicked out of the pool area because they were closing it at 5pm. In addition to that, my rental car was hit in the parking lot, which of course is not their fault, but the cameras that they have in the lot aren’t functional. It is a very convenient location if you want to explore the Kure beach and Carolina beach area, it’s too bad they have a giant ugly black pipe running the entire length of the beach but hopefully that won’t be around for too long.

Arrived at 4pm check in time (listed on website), when recieved text that room was ready a bit early just to find a still torn up, dirty room. Went to the front desk to inform them & woman at the desk just looked at me like I was crazy for not wanting a dirty room & arriving on time. No appologies, no possible solutions, no idea when the room would be ready. Any response was like pulling teeth. What I did get, was told there were no managers on site to speak to & blamed for reserving the room a few hours earlier that day on the room still being dirty. After waiting 1/2 hr I tried to check back in about a manager or answers & the desk woman just walked away mid sentence & slammed herself in a back room somewhere. After that a manager who had been on site all along magically appeared.
An hour after the stated check in time I finally was told the room was ready. & the room was beat up & the bathroom a joke. It was so narrow the door couldn't fully open without hitting the cabinets, & the toilet so close to the wall your knees hit the wall.
Overall unpleasant experience, rude & unprofessional staff, complete inconvience in the situation & would not come back here or recommend for anyone else.

The view was incredible and the close beach access was wonderful. I loved the online check in and door codes so we could get right down to vacation and no key to lose! The renovations are nice and the beds were cozy. It’s so close to everything in Kure beach.

This is a great old school place at the beach. The small kitchen is great for saving money by cooking your meals. Close to pier and restaurants. No elevator so 3rd floor can be tough on some so ask for lower level if you need it. Parking in back can be a bit tricky for a full size truck or SUV.

I usually don’t leave 5 star reviews. My wife and I decided to take a day trip to the beach and booked a room at the Sand Dunes hotel. It was ocean front room, two queen beds, full sized fridge, microwave, balcony with two chairs. Stayed on the third floor.
The only bad part was there was limited opportunity to wash feet before heading back in after walking on the beach. We found a hose near front of hotel. Other than that it was perfect.

The sink was not draining. Bathroom has no sink you have to walk around the room to get to it. The room smelled like a strong carpet freshener trying to cover moldy smell. The AC u AC units are super loud, we had to turn them off. The garbage pick up came at 6am on a Sunday!!!

Pluses: front desk staff was very nice. Bed sheets were clean and proximity to the beach and Kure Beach pier was perfect!

Great location, disappointing accomodations

I was really disappointed by the quality of the room, the cleanliness, and honestly even my experience checking in. The check in instructions were unclear and confusing. After a long day of driving it was not the relaxing stop that we were hoping for. The kitchen was very minimally equipped and there were stains on the walls in the main room and the bathroom. The beds were uncomfortable and taco shaped. Cigarette smoke wafted up from the parking lot to the balcony. It generally smelled like mold. I could go on but I’m over it. Great location and beautiful view.

The room was dirty, dead flies all over, the parking lot shined their headlights right into the bedroom, the bed was pushed right against the window. There was mold all over the ceiling and bathroom, I have pictures. They double charged me even though I paid through Expedia and finally they ended up reimbursing me. If I didn’t get a good deal via Expedia I wouldn’t stay here ever. Saw cockroaches on their boardwalk and the walkways to the rooms.

We live the sand dunes. It is a quiet family place to stay. Convenient to everything. There was an issue getting the light timer to come on before dark but otherwise good. Staff was super nice and helpful. Could use some oven pans in the room instead of aluminum foil but worked in a pinch.

Everything was ok until we tried to leave the room. The lock didnt work. When we returned we were locked out. No one was in the office or answered the phone. After a while we fpund someone putside smoking who was the office person. Because hotels.com couldn’t charge is a $3 fee and Sands didn’t tell us they locked us out. Tv didnt work. AC was like a freight train. Not a great anniversary/birthday trip. Bathroom door didn’t close. Circuit breaker scary

Walls are marred and dirty everywhere. Curtains are old and faded. When I walked around barefooted for a little while, my feet became black with grime. Two pillows had dirty spots with either poop or blood? The AC was loud and literally falling apart. I went to the desk to get some duct tape but I was told “no”. Went to Walmart and bought some and taped it back together. Did get a one-day refund for that. Requested an upgrade to another room on the property but was told no because I booked through Expedia. Never again! BTW, I have photos for all of the above and would be happy to share
