Breakfast took a long time and not enough pastries so we had to wait for them to be cooked. Stayed 3 nights and only 1 out of the 3 was my bed re-made, water and milk refreshed and there was only 1 toilet roll in my room. The stay for Sunday night was value for money but Friday and Saturday night it's definitely not worth what we paid, unfortunately.

Best value around (booked direct when Expedia hiked the price - worth checking if it's close to stay date), v helpful manager and staff, sorted a TV problem quickly. Good traditional restaurant and bar. Good parking, and eye candy across the road for yachties.
Standard room clean, quiet, and comfortable, with fridge and iron, and better-than-average tea/coffee making. Bathroom a bit on the small side, and plumbing rather tired, but not a problem.

Always comfortable rooms, great steaks and breakfast. We always stay here when we are going on a cruise as the later check out time is good, plenty of parking and you can have another coffee/ relax if your embarkation is later in the day.

Lovely room, very spacious and with a large comfortable bed.Bathroom has an overhead rainfall shower and/or a handheld shower head. Shower tray was rather slippery when wet. There was a hairdryer provided but it only had cold air no hot air facitilty. The coffee, tea and biscuits were a nice touch as was the bottle of fresh milk in the fridge. Good size car park and we were able to park right outside our room.

The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly — unfortunately, the hotel itself let the experience down.

I originally stayed in Room 8 on the ground floor. After returning from dinner, I discovered the window wouldn’t close or lock. I reported this to the night staff, and one member of staff mentioned they were already aware of the issue and had previously called an engineer. I was offered an alternative room, but it was a downgrade and there was no offer of a price reduction.

The new room (Room 15) was very small and had a large cobweb in the corner. The fridge was extremely noisy, sounding like a washing machine on spin, and the extractor fan ran constantly. I eventually had to turn off the isolator switch just to get some sleep, only to be woken at 4:45am by a delivery lorry outside.

It’s a real shame because the bar area was clean and the food was amazing, but the hotel accommodation itself was very disappointing. Sadly, I wouldn’t stay here again

Clean room, clean towels each day. First time staying above the function room. Walls very thin so heard everything going on next door as well as downstairs but not too bad. Only real negative was the electric air freshener in each room and hallways. Smell was overpowering so we had to unplug ours and put it outside the room and open the windows to get some fresh air in the room.
Saying that overall the stay was pleasant and rooms were a decent price.

We were happy with everything. As well as the usual clean, warm, welcoming etc. It was also the small touches - handmade shortbread gift, a small fridge in the room containing drinking water and fresh milk. Also reasonable toilet roll!

Lovely hotel - highly recommended.

The room was fantastic, very spacious and a lot of thought had gone into the decor. The bar and food was also lovely and the staff could not have been friendlier. I've scored 5 for everything except eco-friendliness, as I have an EV, a charger in the car park would have been very useful. Hotels of this quality are normally also much more expensive!

If we could give 6 stars we would! The service was impeccable. All the staff were obliging and attentive. Special mention to Steve. What a gentleman who went above and beyond to ensure our couple of nights here were enjoyable and that we had everything we needed.
Also thanks to Emily. Polite, helpful and cheerful. She is very good at her job.
All the staff were wonderful- bar staff, housekeeping and wait staff.
Food was delicious.
The rooms… after 5 months on the road traveling it ticked all the boxes.
Parking, power points, fan(that actually works quietly), heater, coffee maker, comfortable bed and pillows, hooks to hang your towels the list goes on!
Thank you for making our last nights on our journey comfortable and enjoyable.

This is a great place to stay. The rooms were motel style so open the door straight outside which was perfect as we had our 5month puppy with us. Dog friendly too, could take her into the pub. On arrival, in our room was a dog bed, two dog bowls, dog towel and a doggy welcome pack - great touch. Our room was comfy and had everything we needed. Good Wi-Fi (free), smart TV and a small fridge which was useful. The room was clean and tidy and despite being on a main road, it was quiet overnight. The staff in the attached pub were friendly and helpful. We ate both evenings in the pub, reasonably priced and varied menu. Some lovely local walks in the area which are advertised on the pub website. We will definitely stay here again, a gem of a place.

Everything very smooth. Polite friendly staff. Room lovely, excellent pillows. Everything u need in a room. Ironing board, iron, fridge even a dyson air blower. Plus the usual everyday requirements. The convenience of having a restaurant all in one was great after a long journey. Breakfast very tasty and served on piping hot plates always a plus in my book. Would find it hard to deduct any marks from this venue. Definitely would recommended.

My room was called the “cupboard” by the manager who checked me in. No elevator to help with heavy bags. Narrow stairs to the floor. No AC in room and just a tiny window for airflow. Decorations in the room were nice. I could barely lift my arms in the shower. They should merge rooms 1 and 2 to make one normal sized room.

Fab find!

We had a wonderful one night stay at Harpers Steakhouse. The room & breakfast was value for money and to a very high standard. It was refreshing to see attention to detail and little touches in the room like plentiful tea, coffee, hot chocolate & biscuits and a mini fridge with water and fresh milk - so many hotels no longer offer this (often as a cost saving exercise).
We had a huge super king bed which was very comfortable and a pull out bed for our 12 year old daughter.
The little table & chairs outside the room was a nice touch for warmer weather.
Two minor complaints were that the room was hot & stuffy (and it was not a hot day) and the Dyson fan was useful but too noisy for sleeping. Unfortunately some other guests chatted loudly for a while at midnight right outside our room and shouted for their dog - rather rude & disrespectful to other guests and kept us awake.
This was a minor inconvenience and not a reflection on the hotel.
All the staff were friendly & helpful too. We enjoyed dinner and drinks too and our waitress, Emily, was wonderful - warm, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. A real asset to the place.
The location is ideal and we enjoyed a long walk from Swanwick Marina towards Warsash along the riverside. Beautiful views.
We would definitely stay here again as it’s so refreshing to find great rooms that are well appointed & comfortable with the added bonus of decent food, friendly staff and free parking.

Steve provided a friendly, informative and quick check in service before showing us to our room. The room was in very good order and spotlessly clean. It was adjacent to the parking. We ate and drank in the restaurant which offered a reasonably varied menu at a \"middling\" price point. We didn't have breakfast there but it looked good and was quite cheap. Altogether a very enjoyable overnight stay.

I was put off by the name at first being linked to a steakhouse. However given the other reviews I gave it a try. It was great for my stay. Staff and service were great and room had some great amenities. Free parking was great.

I didn’t venture out for a walk as it was on the main road.

Food at the steakhouse was great and good value mid week offers.

A good value short stay!

A very convenient place to spend a couple of nights. It seemed a little motel like, since most of the rooms were in a single block at the back of the restaurant and entry was directly into the room. The decor was perhaps a little drab, but both room and bathroom were very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable, with good quality sheets and duvets and we slept very well. There was a kettle and coffee machine, with plenty of tea and coffee, and fresh milk and water were in a small fridge. The inclusive breakfast was outstanding, especially the very generous full English. The evening meal selection was good. The chicken and steak dishes were excellent. Maybe choosing a Sunday roast was not wise in the early evening, as the beef and roast potatoes weren't at their best. All in all I would recommend Harper's Steakhouse for a short, good value stay.

Middle of winter and had to have the window’s wide open as well as a fan on constant - the room was like a sauna, (so no sleeping that night ), this wasn’t aided with the towel rail being constantly on as well as near a busy road, which with open wide windows meant noisy ( wasn’t noisy when closed ).

Arrived and like most, cup of tea time. Couldn’t open the lid of the kettle due to limescale on the ridge. Managed to boil some water, however the limescale must have been in the base also as the tea was visibly undrinkable.

Didn’t eat at the location due to Christmas parties and being very busy, for me this is a good sign that the food is good, so disappointing but completely understandable.

The room was tastefully furnished and very modern, which was the reason for my choice.

The staff on arrival were very friendly and helpful, however again due to the time of the year, very busy.

Was disappointed, when leaving that I wasn’t asked how my stay went.

This place could be cracking but for me, on this occasion, I came away underwhelmed.

I have stayed in many hotels but have to say that Harper's in Southampton have nailed it. The staff are happy and efficient. The food is lovely. The rooms have the little extra touches and the bed and pillows are perfect. If I could score a 12 I would. Very pleasant stay. We will Def return and try others in the chain.
