Probably the best hotel in Sidi bou said. Stayed in a few there now, there all pretty good but Dar said has a bit of everything and is more reasonably priced compared to the likes of Villa Bleue. A little tip there are taxi apps now one called in drive and the other Bolt, all taxi's are allowed to drive upto to the hotel, so if they try to drop you at the bottom of the hill refuse to get out, they soon remember the way. Failing that you can use the hotel taxi but my only complaint is that it is very over priced.
I think if it is your first visit to Tunisia Dar Said is the perfect introduction. I have been travelling backwards and forwards to Tunis for around 12 years now and can honestly say its one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Also don't pay for breakfast through the booking app, breakfast is always included.

We really enjoyed our stay, very peaceful. The property is 4 stars but service is closer to a 3 star hotel level. Fine with me generally, as I typically don't expect to be waited on like luxury hotels like to do anyways. One other note, coordinate your taxi transportation with the hotel. It's cheaper than a taxi running its meter and more importantly the hotel taxi will drive you right to the hotel. The road is blocked for non-residents so a normal taxi will drop you off at the end of the road and you'd have to walk a bit to the hotel.

PROS:
-Perfectly situated in the middle of Sidi Bou Said, you can walk to the beach easily or around the area with no problems.
-Amazing sea view, with a nice garden and cozy pool area.
-Nice breakfast buffet.
-Spacious rooms.

CONS:
-Staff is a bit lackadaisical, it's never very clear what's going on at the front desk or pool area.
-Pool area is a bit too intimate when there's more than about 4 people there at the same time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dar Said. The garden is breathtaking and the breakfast was delicious. All of the staff were wonderful to interact with. They even did a small currency exchange for us on the weekend when banks were closed.

Nice hotel but be cautious

The hotel itself is clean and pretty. Breakfast was great also. What we didn’t like was that we were harassed by a local shop owner. He insisted we buy something from him and we told him we weren’t interested, he took it upon himself to find out our hotel (around the corner) and was told our room number by a staff member. We felt unsafe and uncomfortable the rest of the stay. Every time we passed by he harassed us, he wanted me to trade him a knit sweater I had and went to our hotel to insist I go out and pick something from his store because he really wanted the sweater. This was very unprofessional on the hotels part to allow someone to harass their guests and give a stranger access to our room number.

Rooms are beautiful traditional style but no light so quite dark. Other major comment for hotel is the disappointing breakfast quality when in Tunis we can get the best croissants, the ones served was dry and inedible. A bit of a traditional Tunisian touch (droo3, ftayer, cake traditionnel par ex would have been nice to complete the boutique hotel traditional experience. Service and staff great though. Thanks I will be back 🙏

Very nice hotel at the heart of the white blue city. My room has no view but reasonable at its price. The whole property has an excellent North African atmosphere with an open garden overseeing the whole town. Breakfast is good and included and given its center location it is very convenient indeed. Hotel can arrange airport pickup at 20 euro but on the way back, you can just grab a cab at half that price paying local currency.

A little piece of paradise in a busy town

We arrived early and were able to check in within about 10 minutes after a lovely welcome drink. Our room (9) was large and spacious, although a little noisy in the morning as people were talking in the courtyard and there seemed to be lots of banging coming from next door - not a room but a service area I think. The breakfast was lovely and the pool was very refreshing. We sat outside on the terrace area and watched the world go bye. We were also allowed a late checkout which was a bonus. You walk out the door and the shops, cafes and restaurants are right there. WiFi signal was not the best unless you were by the window or outdoors. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Tunisa

A true oasis of peace and beauty

A true gem - excellent attention to detail, true hospitality and gorgeous grounds teeming with flowers you truly feel as if your in an enchanted oasis of beauty. The staff were wonderful and they could not have been more sincere, and welcoming. The rooms are beautiful and the cleaning staff are sweet and being in fresh flowers and jasmine petals and your room is like a fragrant cocoon of comfort. I cannot wait until my next visit.

This hotel is in the perfect location for visiting Tunis. Our room wasn’t like the picture, it was much smaller, but it had a very comfortable bed, and the most wonderful view over the sea, if I was booking again I would definitely ask for a room with a sea view.

Out of this world beautiful

We were blown away the first sight: this place is sooo beautiful. Jasmine bush bursting with fragrant flowers, other red, yellow, blue flowers in the garden, overseeing the Tunis bay, a grenade tree with hanging fruits, a swallow nest with chicks in the interior courtyard: everything concurred to the pleasure of the eyes. When too hot, a quick dip in the nice pool would cool our skin and freshen up our souls. Deeply recommended

Great view, beautiful grounds and nicely renovated building. But... terrible sewage smell which ruined our stay. The staff tried to address the problem with scents but it’s clear that there is a serious plumbing problem that needs to be fixed. They shouldn’t rent these rooms until the problem is fixed...

Comfortable but not Luxury

The view from the hotel is amazing, and the location is great, but hotels.com should really update their description as there is no bar onsite (there is one in front of the hotel, but not onsite, and it would have been lovely to enjoy a glass of wine with the great view), there is no library, and the staff isn't multilingual. They don't speak English very well nor Spanish. It is also not a luxury hotel. Our room smelled a bit like sewage from the pipes. The staff members never smile or greet you, but instead just often walk in front of you without a word. With exception to the breakfast staff member who was very friendly, and the young man that directs you to the taxi. The worst thing of all was the communication. I had to send many emails before I got a response to questions before our trip (again not luxury service). I finally got a response, but once we arrived they acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. We had to ask about 4 more times once we arrived until we were able to get our guide to see Carthage. The guide was great, but again the communication was off. We asked at the hotel how much it would cost and they said 25 dinar, but what they meant was 25 dinar an hour. That is a fair price, but we wanted to know in advance to make sure that we had enough cash on us. The basics like hot water, wifi, and ac worked. If they want the hotel to truly be luxury they need to change some things (starting with training). If not, the price needs to come down.

A gem.

Possibly the most beautiful hotel we’ve stayed at. Clean confortable rooms and a setting to die for. The staff were very hepful and pleasant to deal with. Some didn’t have a lot of English, but everyone spoke French so with a smattering of French it was
possible to communicate. Breakfast by the pool was delightful. The one downside was a newly installed shower screen in our room failed, but that could happen anywhere. We’d stay here again and would recommend Dar Said to everyone.

Staying at Hotel Dar Said is a must when visiting Tunis! This hotel is located in the beautiful town of Sidi Bou Said. The staff members are super kind, professional, and welcoming. Our room was clean, comfortable, and simply beautiful! Hotel Dar Said boasts spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. I will definitely come back to this place and recommend it to everyone. Only complaint was that no facial tissue or bathroom tissue were provided. I had to ask for it 2 days in a row & we wound up purchasing our own kleenex.

Beautiful Dar in a stunning village

Lovely stay for a third time in this beautiful old Tunisian house. Could do with a little more attention to detail, water should be left in room every day and the staff should know that tourist sites in the village are closed (if they are). Small things, but otherwise a beautiful place to stay and relax. Don’t book taxi via hotel - suggest you take a yellow cab from airport and ask for it on the meter. Hotel charges 40/50 dirham - price should be 15-20.

A little gem in a beautiful location!

Overlooking the Bay of Tunis this hotel is well placed to be perfect but it has a way to go to deserve this rating. On the positive side the staff were lovely....helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were adequate but one day we went down at 9.30 only to find that the buffet was half empty and there was no coffee! Our room which was the most expensive had a fabulous view and was very clean with fresh flowers and fruit. The bed was very comfortable but the sheets were very scratchy...not nice smooth cotton but probably some synthetic mixture...really unacceptable.
We were unfortunate with our timing in that the hotel grounds and a number of the rooms were undergoing major renovations so we were in the middle of a building site. It was not possible therefore to sit outside comfortably by the pool....it was being rebuilt! even though Mekram was very helpful with regards to taxis etc there was no written information on offer about the incredible sights in the area even though they have UNESCO status. We did not feel that we got value for money.

Beautiful jasmine scented, tiled courtyard. Kind and courteous staff. Breakfast by the small but pretty pool. Views of the sea (just one building obstructing the view with building works going on- other than that gorgeous. Sun bathed on the grassy terrace and were brought towels and fresh lemon juice. Small but fresh and pretty room with painted wooden bed frame and ensuite facilities.

A jewel of a hotel with a jewel of a view

We arrived at 2 o'clock in the morning, much later than expected, and got the same warm welcome that one would expect at a more reasonable hour. The staff had us settled in our charming room in minutes and off to sleep we went. in. The next morning, we got to see how beautiful the location of the hotel was. It has a stunning, unobstructed outlook onto the Tunisian Gulf. My friend and I extended our stay by a night rather than go to one of the trendy, all-included hotels in Gammarth as originally planned. We loved the peaceful, traditional feel of the Dar Said.

The Dar Said is a boutique hotel perched near the top of Sidi Bou Said, a Tunisian village made famous by Paul Klee, Chateaubriand, Gustave Flaubert, Alphonse de Lamartine, André Gide, Colette et Simone de Beauvoir. The village is a glorious jumble of white-washed buildings with blue doors and shutters, and it looks out over the Tunisian Gulf.

No traffic goes by the hotel, so guests hear nothing but birdsong. The staff is friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Our room was sparkling clean and included all the touches - shampoo, bath gel, blow dryer, minibar, safe, a good sized closet and chest. The room was fresh and pretty.

It was just amazing!!!

Upon our arrival, we were surprised to have been upgraded to a superior room automatically since the hotel was not at full capacity. What a nice gesture!!! We were greated with attention and care. We were helped to our fantastic room by the staff. A minute later, while we were unpacking, the door knocked and two staff members brought in a huge flower arrangement, very fresh and extremely beautiful, along with a gorgeous basket with fresh fruits and two glasses of seasonal juice. Which was strawberries at the time.ur bed had fresh jasmin petals on it. The jasmin flower is the tunisian national flower. I can't describe how wonderful it smells. A very personable touch that we greatly enjoyed. My wife and I will go back to Dar Said, WITH NO DOUBT!!!! And we highly recommended this place to all our friends and families. Rest assured that will leavevthis boutique hotel with fantastic memories.

This is a very nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay overall. It is a real treat to be in a lux lodging with superb views that can't be beat. It is just a bit of an effort to get to the top of the hill where the hotel is located, Some signage (there was none and we had to ask many people to find our way), and improved stairs leading up to hotel (the stairs were well-worn and very slippery) would help. When one does finally arrive at the hotel on the top of the hill, one is amply rewarded, it is breath-taking. The staff are friendly and helpful. We got a free upgrade to a 2 level loft suite which was wonderful. The breakfasts were wonderful, particularly the fresh fruit.

An Exceptional Experience

This is truly a wonderful boutique hotel in beautiful village that has a charm rarely have I encountered. I am well travelled and have covered most continents and a variety of hotels from the the international chains to bed and breakfasts. A very good friend who is Tunisian by birth recommended this hotel and village within greater Tunis. I read the reviews and although some questioned this hotel, I booked my 3 night stay. I really did not want to leave. It is a real special hotel for those who want to be pleasantly surprised and experience all that is beautiful about Tunisia and the Mahgreb. And of course, the location cannot be better surrounded by very nice restaurants, coffee shops, galleries and pleasant gift shops.

This hotel is just LOVELY. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to help guests. Breakfast is good quality and is included. Also, the hotel has fantastic views to the Mediterranean and it has a very cute and peaceful garden. It was the highlight of my trip and definitely recommend!
