Classy hotel with a couple surprising shortcomings

Overall, we had a very good experience at this classy hotel: Very attentive and polite staff and lovely accomodations. But you would expect this at a 5 star hotel charging over $500 USD per night. Unfortunately, I will need to focus on a couple things that left us unimpressed. The first is structural: our garden side room provided almost no sound protection from the courtyard below. Conversations at tables just below us were loud and clear. This was especially disappointing because i messaged the hotel ahead of time to request a more remote, private room, but we were on the first floor overlooking the busiest part of the courtyard. Even so, the sound should not have carried the way it did. Basically, they need to upgrade their windows!
The second concern was a service failure that was pretty absurd. We needed a direct transfer to Casablance airport (1.5-2hr away) and I consulted at the front desk one day in advance. I was told they didn't have the number for the special cab company that could handle intercity transfers but that I could hail a big white cab day of and it shouldn't be a problem. Day of, we received no assistance with obtaining the cab, never saw one and finally walked up the road to another hotel which promptly called a cab for us. It arrived 5 minutes later. Only in retrospect am I realizing how absurd the situation was with the front desk staff saying they didn't have the number to call and sending us to hail a cab in the street with no assistance.

They do have good service, staff who can speak different languages but the room upgrade we had was very disappointing. It needs to be renovated. They need to lower the air fragrance , it is too strong, it causes head. They charge too much for a bottle of water over $8. I had chicken couscous from room service and that was $62.

Recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Rabat. The staff was very kind, easy parking available. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as they wanted 350 MAD per person which is a lot. There’s no shower curtain in the bathroom so water goes all over the floor that would be my only complaint.
It’s about a 15 min walk to Mohamed VI museum and the boardwalk. Great location.

Although it was technically the winter season it was still very hot during the day and in the room but it was not possible to have the air conditioning on as it was heating only. The room was therefore extremely hot, also throughout the night which made it difficult to sleep.

While the hotel was clean and well located, the pictures are deceiving. The hotel is outdated and not quite as it appears in the pictures - for example, the pool does not have the private cabana beds. The friendliness of the staff varied from polite to very rude. I definitely would not stay here again.

The stay was nice. Very expensive, especially the food. The refrigerator did not work but it was changed. There is no air conditioning during winter, so they brought up a fan. It was too hot. My wife liked the bed, i hated it. Too soft for me. The hotel looked impressive. The people were nice.

Fantastic Stay in Rabat at La Tour Hassan Palace

La Tour Hassan Palace is a wonderful hotel — beautiful rooms and common areas. Amenities include a pool, spa, lounge, and 2 restaurants. The entire staff — from reception to housekeeping — were helpful and thoughtful. When getting help making a restaurant reservation, we mentioned that it would be a 56th wedding anniversary dinner. The next day the hotel sent a bouquet of roses and a basket of fruit to our room. I would like to specifically thank G. Taoufik for his assistance. When the hotel had to cancel our first night’s reservation, he booked us in a comparable hotel and provided transportation from the train station to that hotel and then to La Tour Hassan Palace the next day. He also arranged a daytrip to Casablanca. His hep was invaluable. The service in the hotel was far beyond what we expected. A wonderful experience.

Beautiful hotel ideally located a 10 min walk from historic sites (Hassan Tower) and a 5 min walk from downtown Rabat/train station and old town (Medina). Well appointed rooms (I took a deluxe), I recommend to add the breakfast option (nice buffet before a busy day). Relaxing indoor garden. Excellent internet connection (was key for me).
Staff was very pleasant and eager to help. Will use this hotel again.

Loved this hotel! The bed was very comfortable and I didn't have any problems sleeping. Spent a lot of time at the outside bar area lounging with coworkers, and the staff was very attentive and friendly. The spa is very nice also. I enjoyed the hammam and massage.

We loved the pillows....not stiff and bulky like some other hotels we've stayed in. Both restaurants had good food. We stayed earlier that week in Kenitra and Tangier the Hotels were fabulous. Then we stayed in Hassan Palace was not what we expected for the price we paid. Front staff was not very friendly. Our room card did not work each day and we exchanged money and the staff was not warm or welcoming. I know that sounds petty but I felt uncomfortable there. Our girls stayed on the first floor and we stayed on the third floor every time we went to their floor there were gentlemen sitting on the couch in their barefoot right in front of the elevator every time we got off the elevator no matter what time. Lots of just men hanging out. I just did not feel comfortable there. The room was clean and the hotel was clean just old. It was warm when we stayed there and no air conditioner the room was very hot. I would not judge it bad but our other hotels had air so there is no reason why we should not have had air for the price paid. I just would not pick that particular hotel again, find a better one for that price.

We initially had an Airbnb that was cancelled on us and Airbnb provided us with a credit to use towards any accommodation. We decided to book at La Tour Hassan Palace. I have to say the stay was excellent..partly because we went from a $26/night Airbnb to a $270/night hotel!

We were upgraded to the garden view room which had a king bed, and view of the garden. Everything was very clean, sheets were nice and washroom was big. They also had a currency exchange available at good rates(better than Casablanca airport).

Staff were friendly and they helped hail a cab for us. WiFi was excellent. Location was decent..about 15 mins walk to the Medina. You can always take a taxi for about 15dh which is like $2.

I highly recommend this hotel but would only stay here because our stay was complimentary and would not pay $270/night.

The entrance and lobby are beautiful, the rooms are a bit tired.
Air conditioning was not available in the rooms apparently because they still considered it winter time. I was forced to open my window for fresh and slightly cooler air. The music from the bar located directly beneath my room prevented me from being able to leave the window open. When I attempted to call the front desk to request a fan, the phone did not work.... {I found out later it was simply not plugged in.} I had to go back down to the desk to inquire about it.
After being told a fan would be delivered to my room I waited for 35 more minutes and called the front desk to inquire as to when it might arrive. I was told there were no fans in the hotel.
At this point I had been up for 35 hours straight. I just wanted to shower and try to get some much needed rest. I was very frustrated.
This hotel was not cheap considering others available in the area.
After expressing my frustration to the manager on duty I was offered a full breakfast via room service the next morning as an apology for the issues I incurred.

Very comfortable hotel in nice area. Comfortable room. Loved that you could walk from here to places and it was safe. The city itself is lovely. At the hotel the “senior staff” like front desk and guys who stand around in suits outside we’re not very nice or helpful. The rest however were great- staff in restaurant, bar and people who cleaned the rooms did a great. Food is decent in the regular restaurant but did not try specialty restaurants.

Nice poolside. Good drinks. No towels in exercise room. Bathroom lights are too dim and make up mirror too high to put makeup on. Room was very cold and no way to adjust temp—thermostat didn’t respond. Amazing buffet, but costs $55 USD with tax.

Moroccan decor on ground floor, modern bedrooms

It was smallish room that looked out onto a housing estate so it was quiet. I had to have the TV retuned in order to get English tv. The bed was hard so I had to resort to sleeping on pillows. The bedding was 50% / 50% cotton polyester sheets. The Wi-Fi was good so Skype was possible. The hotel provided good sized towels in the bathroom. There was a big safe but it was not attached to cupboard. There was good cupboard space for unpacking. There was no comfy chair to sit on in the room. The breakfast buffet was large with lots of choice including freshly cooked eggs. The hotel was in a good location so most of the sights were within walking distance (the old Medina and fort as well as the Mausoleum). I managed to park on the street just outside the hotel. I decided to change some money in the hotel and was slightly surprised to see that they changed the rate from what had been listed on the board. The doormen had wonderful large cloaks and the entrance area was decorated in traditional moroccan style. It was a pity that didn’t extend to the rooms or breakfast dining room.

I checked in and my safe was missing from my room. Then gave me a safe that was not even working. I tried to over look, but my room could not reach thier wifi box, so i didnt have wifi.
I ended up switching my room for the safe ans the internet. Hotel smells good but the shampoo and lotion in the rooms, doesn't smell pleasant. Also basic rooms are really tight.

The front desk day personnel were extremely unfriendly as well as the conceirge. They were supposedly upgrading our room but in fact it was a horrible location being right above the front desk area. The door people, bell hops, and night front desk personnel were nice and helpful to the guests. The map given was illegible and challenging for a tourist. When requesting a recommendation for restaurants we were given hard to find options; whereas, we stumbled upon an excellent option 2 streets from the hotel with a talented chef and rated #1 in Rabat. We attempted to pass this information to the front desk and they were less than receptive. Room condition was average with a key light not working and when the man fixed it he simply hit it to make it work which only lasted a short time. We tried the same process which resulted in the light falling out of the socket and leaving sheetrock debris on top of our head and clothes. Overall not a good choice for the money.

Nice hotel with a lovely courtyard, but this is not a five-star hotel by European/North American/Middle Eastern standards so be prepared. The bathrooms are old and there was no water in my room. I travel frequently in Morocco and the region, and five star hotels should have water in the room. Even the riads provide drinking water. I had to take a bottle from the mini-bar to brush my teeth, etc. I mentioned the issue at checkout, and was told that there should have been a 1.5L bottle of water in my room. He still charged me 40 dhs ($4) for the 50cL mini-bar water, but gave me a tiny bottle of water to take with me. Keep your expectations low and enjoy drinks in the courtyard.

This is a perfectly alright place to stay if you get it at a discount price as I did. it has all it needs to be great but;1- they're remodeling on the same floor I stayed and the hammering started at 8am, not great if you're on vacation mode. 2- the staff is friendly enough but not very helpful. For example, I needed a taxi to the airport and even though they said they would call one, one waits awkwardly 10 minutes before they do so wait ten more minutes and if you point to an idle taxi outside they say, sure, you want to go to the airport? Um, yes, I would. 3- wifi sucks.

I have visited Rabat for business multiple times in the past, but this was my first stay at La Tour Hassan. It is centrally located and quite comfortable for a business traveler. The rooms are well appointed, but are showing a few signs of wear and tear. It is quieter than the Sofitel, but does not offer as many dining options. The buffet breakfast was satisfactory, but not of the standard I would expect from a 5-star hotel. The hotel bar is quaint and has an old world feel - plus, it offers excellent late afternoon sandwiches. I would stay at La Tour Hassan again, but only if I could get the room at a very reasonable price.

The hotel was very nice and comfortable. The rooms were clean and the front desk stuff were very helpful. My wife and her mom used the spa and loved it. The food was excellent at the Bistro and at the Moroccain restaurant.The grand taxi service outside the hotel,however, will charge you 10 times the price to the train station just couple blocks from the hotel. When I confronted the taxi driver with the facts, he said he has to split it with the doorman at the hotel. That was upsetting and disappointing at the same time.

This is a hotel I first stayed in 25 years ago. It was then a little dilapidated and rundown, but its central location and the beauty of the inner courtyard were ample rewards. What a transformation today! It has been lovingly updated and restored, and it is an oasis of peace in a bustling city. The courtyard is gorgeous, and the traditional tiles and decor really make you feel that you've entered a different world. I only wish that the front desk had better maps of the city to give its clients!

I've stayed in Tour Hassan previously and loved the physical building, but was disappointed in the service. I decided to try again on a recent family trip to Rabat. We reserved 4 rooms for 3 nights. The entire family remarked that the hotel was beautiful but the service was VERY DISAPPOINTING. The staff is generally unhelpful and disinterested. After staying in Riads in Marrakesh, Fez and earlier in Rabat, we were thrilled with their service It made the service at the Tour Hassan seem even worse in comparison. I've now had two unsatisfactory experiences at Tour Hassan. It is beautiful, but not worth the sad service.

Clearly the best in an amazing city, but only OK

La Tour Hassan almost gets to 5-star in my book, but not quite. The Deluxe rooms are large, spacious and comfortable. The cuisine is excellent. The little garden is well-maintained and very beautiful and breakfast was delicious - well prepared and great choice.

This hotel was more expensive than some of the other 5-star hotels I have been staying in Morocco. The entire staff should attend a series of courses on how to attend to guests in a 5-star way. They should smile, be far more courteous and ensure each guest is always looked after. I kept having to chase for drinks and felt the boys in the bar were in a dream-world and need wakening up. The reception staff were better, as were those in the Moroccan restaurant and the concierge - but all need to improve. Also, I would welcome a hot towel and drink immediately on arrival.

The bathroom in my Deluxe room needs a total refurb. Its tiles looked dated and the shower could have functioned far better. I think the Manager of the hotel needs to stay in a few other leading Moroccan hotels to experience his competition for himself. Also, I'd ask him to look at replacing the entire stock of towels and dressing-rooms as they seemed old/worn, not fresh/fluffy.

That said, the hotel is clearly the finest hotel in Rabat and it more or less lived up to my expectations. Finally, if you are debating whether or not to visit Rabat - then go! It is amazing. And don't miss the Chellah - what a fascinating and dramatic experience!

Great Hotel and Good Value

This was our first night in Morocco after traveling Atlanta-Madrid-Casa. We wanted a hotel with character (no chains) but without unpleasant surprises. La Tour Hassan was a great choice! It has beautiful reception areas, a lovely courtyard with pool and fabulous breakfast (included). It offers a Moroccan vibe with excellent amenities for the weary traveler. Although we had booked a standard room, a polite request for an upgrade was generously granted, without charge, since they weren't fully booked that evening. While not inexpensive, we definitely thought the rates were reasonable considering the service, appearance and cleanliness of this hotel.

Clean, comfortable, historic hotel centrally located in Rabat

This hotel was very nice. It had a historic, tasteful, Moroccan decor and was clean and comfortable. Reception and concierge staff were very helpful and kind. Restaurant staff was a little slow and brusque, but efficient overall. The hotel has a beautiful, well cared for garden with lovely pool. It also has a fitness room that overlooks the pool. There was a spa, but we did not take advantage of it. It was also centrally located to downtown and the Souk was within about 10 - 15 minutes walking distance. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if I make it back to Rabat.

La Tour Hassan Rabat - my favourite hotel

As a business traveller I have stayed several times in this excellent hotel whcih has
style, charm and excellent facilities. For this reason I was amazed to see that you have rated it with 3 stars. It is by any standard a real 5 star hotel.

Contrary to this I saw that you rated the Golden Tulip Farah with 4 stars ( formally it is a five star) but is no match for laa Tour Hassan. Please change your rating. Completely incorrect.

Un peu déçu pour un palace , petite chambre ,
petite sdb , le patiot du jardin piscine , beau , mais autour :des salles de réunion , donc , plutôt , un hotel d'affaires que de tourisme . le 2ém jour , terrasse pdj ,
en préparation pour un dejeuner de metting .donc pas de pdj en terrasse.

MAGNIFIQUE !

Le palace est devenu notre pied à terre lorsque nous nous rendons à Rabat. On s’y sent toujours aussi bien. Nous avons eu la chance d’être surclassé. Tout était parfait durant notre séjour. L’equipe est très serviable et professionnelle.J’ai eu l’occasion de fêter mes 50 ans autour d’un brunch familiale. Tout était parfait, tant le service que le choix des plats. Un grand merci à M.Allaoui pour cette magnifique organisation. Je ne peux que recommander les yeux fermés.
