Wonderful historic hotel with 3 restaurants bars outdoor beer garden in heart of the town. No better location exists.
Andrea
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The dinner that we had in the library was top-notch. The service was on point the next meal we had was in the pub. It was delicious as well. It's a well-thought-out property that they have three different restaurants depending on if your family or adult or bargoer, the only complaint I had was that the bed had a spring that poked in my back all night long. And someone had set the thermostat to automatic, because it was nice and chilly when we got there. I didn't think to look at it, but about 2 in the morning. It changed to 78°. Heat which was a little warm to say the least
Also, the blackout drapes were extremely ineffective and it was pretty much daylight in our room. All night long, other than that, we had a wonderful stay. I would go again. I just would not stay in room eighteen ninety eight again.

A very nice older style hotel in the heart of Nelson. Great location for amenities. Nice shops everywhere. There is not on site parking- but a city parkade next door. Street parking is free from 5 pm to 9 am and it was available. There is a loading area parking at the hotel side door which was handy. The pub food was very tasty with a good menu.
Jasmin
The highlight of my stay was the wonderful staff. They were kind, accommodating, and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. From the meal recommendations to the early check-in, and even helping me print some documents, they made my stay in Nelson that much more enjoyable!
Gregory
Hmmm… we’ve stayed at the Hume a number of times over the years. The price has gradually increased but the experience hasn’t kept pace. This trip the parking was silly.
Park in the city parkade at your expense or take a chance parking on the street. “We’ll help you with the app.”
One parking space to unload or risk double park.
It’s a small thing but if this is a boutique experience, they need to do better.
I think we’ll try a different lodging next summer when we pass thru Nelson.

Beautiful hotel with excellent staff, personality and food

Our stay was top notch. The hotel has so much character and charm. The restaurants were excellent and the service top notch. The biggest plus for us was how accommodating the staff was and how happy they seemed to be in their work. It speaks to a great team and first class management. Congratulations on a great product.

Absolutely loved this hotel, would stay here again! The staff were amazing, the rooms were comfortable and the location was amazing!
Debbie
Charming historic hotel in great location.
John
The best thing was the staff. So very helpful in moving our belongings to our new room when we extended. They took care of everything while we explored the area. The hotel itself is great and in a super location to all the restaurants and bars in town. The pub, library bar, and outside alley bar are all great. The breakfast, if you book direct, is complimentary and was one of the best meals we had in Nelson. No joke.
Marc
Beautiful hotel with great eating/drinking establishments. Loved the old world character. Only downside was that when the last renos were done, no soundproofing was added between rooms. Heard the conversations of the people next door late into the night and early in the morning. And it didn’t seem they were talking more than at normal levels.
Scott
Overall good experience. Room was clean, staff in the Library and outside in the Beer Garden excellent. Front desk staff, disinterested and not friendly. Too bad otherwise really good!
Tammy
Great hotel , one of the nicest hotels in the area...

Great place to stay in downtown Nelson.
Very friendly and helpful stuff.

The staff did warn me that we had a small room, but boy was it small. We really had to jam in, but the bed was good and the noise was zero. I did have a chance to sit in the beer garden beside the hotel and that was really fun. We didn’t try the restaurants other than that. The elevator is tiny and barely fits the luggage cart, but it was fine. The one thing that I wished was more clarity on the Parking as we purchased Parking and apparently we didn’t need to. Also, the entrance that is accessible isn’t clear so we had to fuss about a bit and then we finally found it.
F
Always an enjoyable stay at the Hume Hotel. Central location and completely walkable. The hotel restaurant never disappoints - great food with options for everyone.
Highly recommend.
Highly recommend.
Michelle
Great location, very friendly staff, good sized rooms and enjoyed the variety of eating drinking places. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful property
Brenda
Lovely historic hotel right in a convenient location. Staff were, friendly and helpful, would definitely stay there again. Parking was not included, but was conveniently located right next-door.
Ravana-Sue
Fantastic boutique hotel that feels like a quaint historical \"all inclusive\". The 2 restaurants and pub feature delicious and unique creations served by the friendliest servers I have encountered! Location in downtown Nelson is perfect for exploring on foot. Rooms have been modernized but feel cozy. There is a bar fridge but no microwave oven. One cup coffee maker included.
Feels like a home away from home. Love it all!

Very nice place! The beds were so comfortable and very clean and beautiful! We always stay at this hotel in Nelson!
Patricia
It was a very cool vibe. Would definitely stay again
Katherine
Absolutely the worst room possible- above the pub. But what they don’t tell you online is that it’s an outdoor patio with the music speakers directly under your window. They treat Expedia bookings like second class citizens. They actually told me I should have booked on THEIR website and asked for a premium room. Don’t stay here.
Greg
Hotel was awesome staff were very helpful and the pub was excellent
Henk John
A very unique old styled hotel which has been kept up very well over the years. The rooms were not spacious but had plenty of room for one couple. Everything was comfortable and clean. The place itself has so much character along with the lounge down below. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The only drawback is the limited parking, but there is a parkade nearby.

Great location. Parking was a bit of an issue though.
Andrea
Excellent location. Although we didn’t enjoy paying for parking, the parkade was very conveniently located
Eileen
Everything was absolutely perfect!!
Judy
Like the location close to town. Beds really comfy. Parkade close by. Prime rib dinner in the Library was fantastic! Yorkshire puddings were huge!!
sophie
I really loved the style and décor of this hotel. Everything was very clean, well maintained, and the room itself was lovely and comfortable. Prior to our arrival, we were informed that there was no on-site parking, which was appreciated as it allowed us to plan ahead and make use of the loading bay for unloading.
Unfortunately, the arrival experience could have been better. My friend went to get a trolley, but no staff offered assistance while she struggled to hold doors open and maneuver it through the hotel. She was also left waiting at the front desk for some time before anyone attended to her while I went to park the car.
The lack of parking is definitely a drawback. The nearby garage only covers parking until 7:00 a.m., meaning you either have to pay for two nights or get up early to move your vehicle, which isn't very convenient.
That said, there were plenty of positives. The downstairs restaurant was extremely convenient, the food was delicious, and the restaurant staff were fantastic throughout our stay. I also appreciated the thoughtful doggy treat bag provided for my dog with our room —it was a lovely touch.
One improvement I'd suggest would be installing smart TVs that allow guests to cast or stream content from their phones, making it easier to access apps like Netflix and other streaming services.
Overall, despite a few frustrations with parking and the arrival experience, I enjoyed my stay and would consider returning.

Great location. The only negative thing is parking next door and make sure you get text reminders to extend the parking time .
Clifford
I enjoyed the classic style of the hotel itself and the. comfort and cleanliness of the room . The staff and amenities were on point. One hundred percent will return!
Faith
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The room i stayed in was right above the oub ao it was loud. They do prove ear buds in the room but did not help much. I know its wn ild building which i understand but it did umpact my sleep but that is the only thing i can impacted my rating to 4/5 overall stay.
I would still recommend it and would stay there again

What a grand historic hotel!!
Perfect location to walk the downtown area. Restaurant staff were great and food came quickly. Very friendly front end staff too.
Nicely appointed rooms and comfy beds. Note the earplugs in the desk drawer if you are a light sleeper, it is downtown!

This hotel was a delight to stay in for two nights over the memorial day weekend. It's a very old hotel from 1897 which was restored back into its earlier grandeur in the early 1980s, The decor, woodwork and attention to detail throughout the hotel is like stepping way back in time yet it provides modern conveniences, like up to date, on-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds and insulated windows. It has a rich historic character which is very restful and quiet. The front desk staff was very attentive, professional and friendly. The in house restaurant provides breakfast, lunch and dinner with innovative and tasty menu choices at reasonable prices. There is also a bar and two other eating choices inside and outside of the building. It's right in downtown Nelson so shopping is very close by. We very highly recommend this hotel and hope to return.
Emily
Amazing accommodation!! Historical but modern enough for a pleasant stay, including air conditioning.

Staff were wonderful at the front desk and in the restaurant. We were in town to coach at a soccer tournament so our stay was short. Next time we are headed for Nelson, we will stay at the Hume, hopefully for a bit longer!!

What a beautiful restored hotel with remnants of it’s previous grandeur,
The restaurants were great and staff so friendly.
We’d love to come back!

It is a beautiful hotel with a ton of character and history. Loved our stay
Janene
The room was clean and well stocked. There was a knocking and tapping noise off and on during our time in the room. We could not tell if it was in the building or coming from outside on the building. It was annoying.

The food service was very quick and tasty! I recommend the beet salad...wow! The pub was a great place to hang out and watch some sports, play some pool and just chat with the local people.

Our room was exceptional. Hitel is within walking distance of everything. It us a heritage hotel and lots of stories behind it.

We came up for our 15 year wedding anniversary from North Idaho. We had an absolute wonderful time in Nelson. The Hume hotel was fantastic!

A bit disappointed that the continental breakfast was not included because we didn’t book direct. You would think for that amount of money you would at least get that… Probably won’t stay again because of this.

This is an old historic hotel. It does not have parking so you have to park at a public structure a block away. They do not have a Bell stand to help you unload your bags.
With that said, it is a cool property and a good experience with a fantastic staff, a great pub and restaurant right in the middle of downtown Nelson, which is a fantastic city.

Very clean room. All staff very welcoming and very helpful as I've never been to Nelson. Helped with directions and suggestions on what to do.

The Hume Hotel is simply magical! From the historic elements, to the variety of dining options, the Hume is a little slice of heaven. We were visiting Nelson on our honeymoon, and the staff was kind enough to upgrade our room to a double suite. We will absolutely stay there again on our next visit to Nelson!

Overall, it was a good stay. The hotel is well-maintained on the main level (originally built in 1898) and the upper levels are tastefully renovated and clean.
When we checked in, we were told Expedia had oversold our room (2Q suite with a sofabed) and that we would be placed in a 2Q suite room. This was not ideal since we are a family of 6. We asked for a cot which they accommodated. I asked if I would be refunded for the $30 room cost difference and the lady said \"it would be looked after\" (it never was refunded). When I checked on their direct site, I noticed the suite with a sofabed was still available.
The General Store restaurant located on the main level offered delicious food and great service. We went back for dessert after enjoying a walk downtown and our previous waitress recognized us and again, was pleasant.
Upon checkout, we were told we had a charge of over $80 without explanation of what it was. I refused to pay it and asked what it was. They said it was because of our extra guests and I said we would have walked out had we known we would be charged for our children to stay in the room (an extra 30% of original price). They ended up removing the charge.
Note: they charge over $20 per person (including infants!) for any guests over 2 staying in a room.

We have been staying at The Hume for a number of years every winter. We always used to book a basic room and it always included breakfast. This time I chose a bigger more expensive room. How disappointing the room had frosted glass so no view and when opened the window to get some fresh air the reason for the frosted window became apparent the room looked into the machinery area, which was extremely noisy.
So after a terrible nights sleep we went down for breakfast and were told it would be extra even though our friends who booked at the same got there’s included. When I queried this they said it was because I booked with Expedia.
When I booked on line I was sure I was on the hotels website.
Anyway when I mentioned this at checkout I was told it was all my fault and go and argue with Expedia. As for the room apparently if I had of rung them they would have told me that looked on to the machinery shed. So why do charge extra for a bad room I thought by paying extra I would have got a better room.

We stayed in the Junior Suite and it was extremely comfortable. The bathroom is very well designed, the bed comfortable, and the sitting area nicely set up. Had a cocktail in The Library (highly recommend the Hemingway). We will be staying here again.
