Stayed at Hotel Casa Aluge in Zona Colonial and had a great experience. The location is perfect — you can walk to restaurants, historic sites, and cafés within minutes. The rooms need an upgrade, but are clean, comfortable, and well air-conditioned, which is a big plus in Santo Domingo.
Breakfast was included and very fresh each morning — simple but delicious and homemade-style. Staff were friendly and helpful, making the stay feel welcoming and personal. Would definitely recommend for travelers who want charm, convenience, and great value in the heart of the Colonial Zone.

So I stayed with them 4 nights before I book this 2 nights with hotels.com. And for what you pat was great, had hot water, fridge, breakfast. Staff is really good. Location is amazing you can walk every where. Relatively clean. So was kind of worthy what I paid. But the 2 days booked through hotels.com was not good. It was a big power outage in the area and they had a generator which we had power but there was no water nothing. The other hotels around they had the water and was hot also. Had to shower at a friend which was in the city. And the. The next day was ok but the second night water was again. They brought a 10 kilo bottle of water but is not easy to use for toilet or shower. Good i showered during the day. Till the moment I checked out there was no water still.
It is a shame because the staff is so good and kind of has what u basicly need to be in the colonial zone. But the watee issue need to be fixed and did not had to do only with the area.

Hotel was trying to charge me more than Expedia shows. They refused to accept c/c. Room was dirty and never cleaned during my stay. No hangers for cloth. For three days they never expected me for breakfast. I left one day earlier since can't stand it any more.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They really look out for you, and that is what stood out the most for me. They looked out for me with Ubers, navigating around the area, and even were worried when I didn’t wake up in time for breakfast. In fact, they kept the cafeteria open for me to make sure I got to eat. (They can bring it to you for a modest fee, FYI.)

The accommodations are basic but adequate, which is fine if you’re like me and not planning to spend a lot of time at your hotel. The shower had hot water and decent water pressure.

I also like the location, being just a block and a half from El Conde (pedestrian street) and a few minute walk from Parque Colón, where you can always find restaurants to have a coffee or meal.

The room was very unkept, and dirty. No matching anything, only gave us a bar of soap and a roll of toilet paper. When we asked for another roll of paper we got one that was already halfway gone.
Also one towel per person and was very strict about them. Not even a wash cloth or hand towel just TWO towels. The air conditioner was old and musty/moldy smelling.
The fridge was disgustingly dirty.
Spider webs all over the place and not to mention mosquitoes that we kept killing.
Breakfast was also not great.
We DID like the location.
Close to almost everything within walking distance. Needs updating and better customer care

The staff was friendly, but didn't act on my request to clean the room. The room was not maid once during my five-day stay. The room itself was in a bad shape. It wasn't clean to regular standard and in a desperate need of renovation. Wholes in the walls, dirty walls needing painting, just feels way below the price.

I do not like the fact they try charge you a fee for having a guest. They told 15 usd for brining guests to your room. The guy working there literally said if you’re gay you can’t bring guests for free. 👎

The hotel is conveniently located from all the famous locations (cathedral, plaza espana, etc.) and has a variety of restaurants, shops, and a supermarket all in short walking distance. The staff was really friendly and supportive whenever needed. Some speak really decent English as well. It's a great deal for the price.

I liked that I had a good interactive relationship with the staff and that they were more than willing to consider my requests. I think, the initial room that I was assigned to perhaps was not ideal in general including the decor, lighting and facilities such as a non working refrigerator. Half way through my stay, the staff assigned a much better and superior room.

There was mosquito in the room. Most terrible was running the television at 2-3 am at the reception in high volume by hotel staff that disturbed sleeping. I went out put off the television but then, sound coming continuously from the mobile of the same staff on duty at the reception

It was disappointing based on other hotels in the area. The floor of the shower stall was severely cracked but it was partially coveted with a mat. One flimsy towel, no bathmat, or glass in the room.

Convenient to tourist locations

This is a typical Dominican place. The description provided by the site needs to be updated, amenities are not as listed. Maybe they existed at one time but not now. The staff were friendly and courteous, but the hotel needs many repairs.
It’s a place to sleep, that’s what you get along with some coffee and a preplanned everyday breakfast.
I would not recommend it to North American travellers with expectations.

If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. My stay was a complete disaster, and I regretted it every single day. None of the services promised on Expedia were provided.
To start, they don't even have a swimming pool. I specifically chose this hotel because their listing showed a pool in both the photos and description. When I brought this up with the staff, they admitted they were aware of the misleading information but had no plans to fix it. Several other guests I spoke to were just as frustrated, having booked for the same reason. Despite their promise to remove the misleading pictures, nothing changed during my 5-day stay, and it was clear they had no intention of doing so.
On top of that, the WiFi was atrocious. They had three different networks, and none worked properly unless I stood in a specific corner of my room or near the door. Any movement in the room, and the signal would drop completely. The management did nothing to resolve it, offering a range of flimsy excuses like \"it's an outside issue\" or they \"hadn’t noticed it was unplugged.\" Their indifference made it impossible for me to work or study, costing me even more. Despite paying the full price, I left feeling completely cheated, and they showed zero interest in addressing any of these issues. Thirdly, the towels are dirty, the rooms are filthy and stinky, the bathroom is covered with plaque, and there is no hot/warm water.
Terrible hotel, do not stay there!

La limpieza.un le hace falta una pinturita al fondo de la entrada unas matita bien bonita botar lo que está ocupando espacio.. o pintarlo..cocina mala condiciones desde arriba hasta abajo. La alfombra de la bañera..y por dónde se va el agua no se ve delicado..vale la pena que lo arreglen para recomendarlo

The picture reflected a beautiful Queen size bed, which is what I thought I had selected. When I arrived, the room that I received had was a full size bed against the wall. Not easy to get off bed without crossing my husband. The towel was the worst towel I had even seen. Overall, I ended up paying and additional $25.per night extra, to obtain a king size bed. The pillows were dirty and really wormed out. Not decent pillows. Was bitting by mosquitos all night long. Not able to control AC temperature as is so old that you can only plug and unplug. Not a very good experience.

My room was a complete disaster cobwebs on the wall,the AC leaked on the mattres, There was Black mold on the ceiling and walls. The windows were old, wooden, frosted, and probably non operable, the pillows were old, there were many mosquitoes and ants. The whole hotel smelled of cigarettes, the kitchen was always dirty. I stayed because I had already paid everything for 7 nights. I would not return to this place.

My overall review of my stay was okay meaning they family of people who’s use to own was my main reason for coming to this hotel to stay… I enjoy visiting them but as for the staff of the Hotel Layla host that greeted me it was very disappointing not very helpful not very friendly most times his assistance was very bad not like he really want to do much for me. And of course brought up the fact that he never asked me to come to stay at the hotel which was very disappointing I never expected the host to say that to me

The owner is very friendly and always give good advice. This hotel is located in the center of Zona Colonial which is safe and very touristic are. Do not expect a 5 star hotel for this price. This a hotel to spend a couple nights and explore the monuments.
Tip: use Uber. It is cheap and convenient.

The hotel was absolutely nothing that was stated was correct. NO hot water, no air, no breakfast. They consider hot water and coffee breakfast. When I called Orbitz to change out of the hotel, they tried their best and the property manger would not let us cancel or get the waiver. We ended up having to spend additional money to stay somewhere. We ended us at the Barcelo Santo Domingo that was perfect and fit all needs. We were so upset because the Hotel Casa Aluge looked so cute, description sounds great, reviews were good, and the reality was a disaster.

Our host, Miguel, was a lovely man who was extremely helpful to two Americans who speak little Spanish. He helped to ensure our car was parked safely (which turned out to be a paid public lot around the corner as there were no spots on the street in front of the hotel), allowed us to switch rooms when the first one was a little below par, and cooked us a nice fried egg breakfast in the morning. There is a nice little courtyard where you can sit and enjoy drinks or conversation (Miguel was very engaging and does offer drinks from a small bar in the courtyard as well as purified water as needed). The room itself was decently clean, but the amenities were lacking—there was no top sheet, no mattress pad, and the bottom sheet was to the point of being somewhat see-through. It looked clean, but perhaps a bit wanting for a really comfortable sleep. A note also that if you are in a downstairs room, you will likely hear the on-goings in the courtyard, which did carry into the night. Not a problem for us—we actually enjoyed the lively nature of the place, but perhaps could bother others. Would recommend this hotel to travelers looking for a local experience and a chance to engage in Spanish conversation. Overall a nice stay—not fancy, but what it lacked in amenities it made up in culture! Thanks for making our stay enjoyable, Miguel!

I will never recommend this hotel to anyone the place was disgusting dirty smells like a dead person,the customer service was ridiculous, the front desk person wanted to fight me and my brother we were supposed to stay over there we didn’t even get to take our luggage’s out of the car just because the way we were receive. We ask for a refund because we didn’t want to stay over there and nobody got back to us,we’re still waiting for an email about a return.

The man at the front desk was very courteous and helpful. Apart from that I was very disappointed with the place. It was very old and dingy , the bedroom smelled like mold, the bathroom was not clean, the towels were threadbare and scarce, there was no toilet paper when I checked in , the bed was old and uncomfortable, the safe was broken ( no door ). There were zero dining facilities, and there was a lot of noise at night. I was so disgusted I was going to leave the first day. I decided I would give it a chance but ended up leaving after only two nights. I had originally intended to stay over ten days. I did not want to offend the nice man at the front desk so I told him I had to leave due to work issues. I contacted Expedia as soon as I got home but the management would not even give a partial refund. I can not recommend this place at all. Stay away.
