very sweet place. we were a family of 9 and stayed in 2 large cabins. breakfast was wonderful. dinner was also great. we saw the northern lights just as in the photos!

Clean room. Nice breakfast. Pretty location. Staff was nice. Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night a couple of times and staff was no where to be seen for what felt like a long time. It was faulty not a fire. It was a bit frustrating at 3am. Nothing was mentioned the next morning. I would think a discount would have been given or an apology but nothing.

Beautiful views! We went in hopes to experience the aurora borealis (we had two nights previous luckily) even in their absence this place lacked no picturest moments. Horses in the field 10m away, the moon rising, and a peaceful time spent in the hot tub and sauna were beyond my hopes.. safe and friendly

This is the kind of place you want to stay at when you stay in Iceland. Cabin near a running lake, gorgeous views and Icelandic horses to pet. Very comfortable cabin for 4 with beautiful views from the large glass windows. Do not miss out on this place. Its very close to Seljalandsfoss. Highly recommend it, you will not regret it.

By far our favorite place we have ever stayed! The cottages are adorable and very clean. The horses were playful and friendly and the views were so great from our rooms. The staff went above and beyond for us. We had to leave early one morning and couldn’t make breakfast and the staff went out of their way and made us to go bags of breakfast! They made plenty and gave us extra snacks and a sweet note to enjoy our day! Top notch!

Family of six from Boston, stayed for 2 nights during Spring Break (April 2025). We stayed in the cottage which was very comfortable. There are plenty of beds for us six, and we got to see northern lights in the first night! Overall an amazing stay and would definitely go back again! The hotel has couple Border Collies on site who are super friendly. We enjoyed petting them :)
A few things that could’ve made the stay over-the-top awesome: 1) microwave in the room, 2) on-site or in-room washer/dryer, 3) more food selection for the breakfast buffet. But these aren’t deal breakers for us. We enjoyed the stay a lot without them.

March 2024 - Very nice place to lodge away from it all. Pleasant warm rooms and amenities including hot tub and sauna. Be prepared for the wind. Breakfast was great. We appreciated the wake up call for the auroras, but unfortunately it was too cloudy to see very much of it. We enjoyed our two night stay very well.

Very beautiful property. Really loved the three twin bed option. Please make sure you take advantage of their breakfast! Very good quality. Highly recommend and although no aurora our night, they have someone in watch until midnight and will call you to let you know. A few minor complaints which is that the shower curtain was disgusting at the bottom and had all sorts of rust colored staining, Bedspread green topper had a stain, and the water felt slimy due to a little too much water softener. Otherwise, absolutely gorgeous and highly recommend.

This was our favorite accommodation. We chose the cottage and were so happy we did. After staying in small hotel rooms, this gave us a chance to stretch out and relax. The farm is beautiful and was surrounded by majestic mountains. We took a walk around the property and were greeted by a friendly little border collie who showed us the way. The cottage itself was new, very clean and bedding was comfortable. The variety of shows on the Smart TV suited us perfectly. I would highly recommend staying a couple of night at Hotel Laekur.

The staff was very warm, welcome, and inviting, but the room we were in left something to be desired. The door was extremely finicky and several times we were unable to lock it at all, and perhaps the staff couldn't either, because we came back from day trips to find our room had not been locked two times. Our TV had a blown speaker, the faucet was loose, and the mattresses were pretty uncomfortable.

A lovely hotel in middle of nowhere which we were looking for. Very warm welcome from the owner which was great upon arrival. The breakfast was amazing, few homemade things which was great! The only thing to improve would be to have a proper blinds in the room as we had a corner room and people could see into our room. Otherwise really great place to stay!

If you need a great place to see Northern Lights in Hella, this is the place. We saw Northern Lights for the first time on the first night we arrived in Iceland. We received warm welcome by the owner, Stuart when we arrived at Hotel Lækur after 8pm. He prepared late night dinner for us. The tastes of soup and Char fish are excellent. Our room was facing north. We saw Northern Lights in the front of our room for almost 2 hours. We could go back to our room anytime to warm up. The skies were clear, revealing thousands of bright stars including The Big Dipper, and it was rather windy and cold. We will stay in the same room next time we go.

Two days in the south to see the sights and Laekur was perfect for that purpose. We loved the quiet rural environment the amenities offered by the hotel and the easy access to Vik and the sights in betweeen.

Brilliant little hotel; we had a cute little room up in the roof with a view to the surrounding landscape and a place to sit outside. There’s an island in the river and you can wander along the banks. Breakfast was great, as was dinner, both good home-cooking (and filling too!) which was also good value. The staff were all friendly and helpful, taking the time to make sure we knew which route we were heading for. Sad to leave and we would definitely come again.

Hotel Laekur was a dream place to drop in after 3 long days of hiking. Their service far exceeded our expectations. Their restaurant had already closed for the night but there's nothing else around and Alecia (woman at the front desk) arranged for the chef to cook us two meals. They were ready within 20 min, tasted delicious and were overall incredibly accommodating. 10/10 would recommend!

I arrived fairly late for my check in after a long day driving from the east coast. I was exhausted from a lot of hiking and just wanted to have a small bite, shower and bed. I asked if I could have dinner in my room and the girl who checked me in agreed without hesitation and even offered to deliver it. So kind and accommodating! I appreciated this so much and love that \"sure, why not?\" attitude. The photos doesn't do this property justice. Although my single room was small by American standards, it was so efficiently designed with everything I could need. The only small warning for other travelers is be aware prior to getting to the hotel, the road is unpaved so drive slower.

The hotel is located about 10km from the main road, so it's not in Hella. The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to get you settled. The restaurant is really nice. They have a hot tub which we didn't get time to try. Unfortunately we didn't see the Northern Lights whilst we stayed here but we did have the knowledge that someone would wake us if they put in an appearance. The cottage we stayed in was really nice and comfortable.

Hotel Laekur is an amazing place in a tranquil setting. if you want to see the Northern Lights (when they are out) you literally just walk out of the door. the location is well away from light pollution. The food is all homemade and delicious. The rooms are very modern and clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. we have stayed twice at the hotel in the past three years and would recommend the hotel to anybody. you do need a car but driving, many of the attractions such as the Golden Circle are in easy reach

Hotel Laekur is amazing! I cannot say enough good things about this place and the people who own it. My husband and I traveled to Iceland for our wedding along with our family and friends. They made our wedding weekend incredible. After our day long adventures it was so nice to come back to comfortable, quiet, and beautiful place. The owners were so accommodating to us and our guests and went above and beyond any expectations we had. We had our \"rehearsal\" dinner and wedding reception here. The food was DELICIOUS! They also made our wedding cake which was so pretty and so good. They worked with our wedding planner and florist to turn the dinning room into a romantic setting and we were floored when we came in. The service was outstanding. They met every need we had and even ones we didn't know we had - like bringing a beautiful breakfast tray to our rooms on the morning of our wedding so we had something to eat while getting ready. We stayed in one of the cottages for our trip and it was so cozy, clean, and modern. We felt right at home! Truly, I do not think our wedding would have been what it was had we not stayed here. If you're coming to Iceland you must stay here! You will not regret it. Thank you Hotel Laekur! We miss you guys already!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Laekur! We stayed in one of the cottages separate from the main lodge. The view of the creek and farm land from the cottage was amazing especially nice touch was the sky light in the loft. The cottage was up to date, very clean and had everything we needed. The thermal heating was more than enough to keep us warm. The breakfast was very ample and provided a good start to the morning. The staff was great throughout the stay. Our only issue was connecting to the wifi from the cottage. Of course we were on vacation, but it is kind of essential in order to double check road conditions, weather, tickets for plan excursions, etc. We were able to go over to the lodge and pick up the wifi though and usual did this right after breakfast to make sure of our plans for the day. Overall, we would highly recommend Hotel Laekur.

It's a great family operated hotel. They provided a great breakfast and dinner menu was excellent. The only draw back is that like many hotels on the south coast drive, it location is set well back from Route1. So you gotta have a car and you gotta plan your meals. If you are out and return late you may be too late for dinner. That being said, I was there when a guest showed up about 15 after meal service ended and they got him dinner.
The rooms are spotless and roomy, with all that you need: TV and lots of outlets. The staff was very helpful, yes I would go back.

We spent 14 days in Iceland and this was by far the best place we stayed. We only wish we had more than one night there. Clean, friendly, small but comfortable, and a delicious breakfast. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Horses and mountains in the back but the best part is it is away from everything and dark enough that we saw a wonderful display of the northern lights here!

Beautiful family run property
This is a beautiful family run property that is located on a farm. Everyone was really friendly. The dining/breakfast room windows overlook the farm and you can walk across the field to meet some friendly horses. Also there is a stream that runs along the property and a wooden bridge has been built across it so that if is warm weather there is a hammock in a small grove of trees. Wish we could have spent another day to enjoy all the amenities.
