This is a brand new hotel but with a major flaw in the design: huge expanses of glass in every direction meaning that on a hot day it gets very hot inside. I can see the attraction of making the most of the views, although why it needed a scenic lift facing the rear and the most drab view of car parks and buildings is beyond me, but this is really the worst example of bad design, totally unsuited to raising temperatures. Even with the aircon on you have to close all curtains when the sun hits the windows. Otherwise a standard modern hotel. Very helpful staff, particularly at reception where they make sure they warn you about the scenic lift which might take people with vertigo by surprise.

We stayed in Cherbourg before a ferry home after a 2 week tour of Brittany. The hotel is new and clean, staff friendly and helpful. We had a large room on the 6th floor overlooking the harbour so we could see all of the comings and goings of the fishing boats. We didn't use the hotel restaurant as there were quite a few seafood restaurants along the harbour. The ferry terminal is about 5 mins drive away so it's a good stop if you're here to catch a ferry but sadly Cherbourg itself isn't worth a visit

Modern hotel, rooms well appointed. A short walk from the town centre, and a large shopping centre right next door.car parking is secure and free.

Staff were very welcoming. Would recommend this hotel if you are staying in the Cherbourg area and is about 6 minute drive from the ferry terminal too.

Very convenient to the Brittany Ferry terminal. Extremely clean and comfortable rooms. We ordered the room service breakfast which was all cold foods and nothing special. Restaurant was ok, tiny portions and flavorless. I would definitely go elsewhere for food and drinks.

It was just ok. Not an amazing place as the 9.4 rating would suggest. Room was clean and comfortable and location is extremely convenient if you're getting the ferry. I'd recommend the hotel but I wouldn't say it was amazing.

Choose this hotel as a stop overnight stop, before boarding our ferry back to England. Beautiful clean modern hotel. We had dinner at the hotel great food. Staff nice, we did have to find a staff for a drink at the bar. I notice a few people waiting at the bar and walked away because there was no bar staff.

Absolutely one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect after arriving from Guernsey at 17.00 it’s only 10 minutes from harbour.
Lots of places in walking distance for dinner and drinks.
Super shopping locations a short drive up the road.
Cherbourg is not so hectic as St Malo so a great option from the Channel Islands for a break.

Lovely hotel, very close to the ferry port. The rooms are spacious and clean. We had rooms overlooking the harbour which was perfect. The restaurant menu was varied and the food of very good quality. A tad expensive at the bar particularly for hot drinks €4 for a coffee and €2.50 for a small milk ! Overall, a very pleasant stay and if in Cherbourg again we would definitely stay at this hotel.

A luxurious stay in Cherbourg as you should expect. Conveniently located near a major mall and SNCF station, guests can access most locations on Cotentin peninsular at ease. Excellent hotel in great location.Modern design with comfortable and well provisioned bedroom. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the whole experience was fine. Only slight criticism was that breakfast was overwhelmed by the numbers using it and somewhat chaotic. Food in the buffet quickly ran out and the space allowed at the buffet is too small and customers were having trouble getting to the serving areas.

A really nice clean and new hotel in a lovely location with nice views from the rooms at the front, within 3 minutes drive of Cherbourg car ferry port. The hotel also has free parking, good standard of rooms and really good customer service and 1st floor outside roof terrace. The free WiFi was very good and the room also had a fridge with free bottled water. The hotel is next door to a nice little shopping centre with supermarket to grab any last minute things or to grab something to eat on the go. Cherbourg centre is only a few minutes walk away. The room we had on the 4th floor was a little cluttered with free standing lamps, chairs and table which made the room feel a little smaller than it actually was, but to be honest this is an attempt at trying to find fault rather than an actual problem. We stayed for 2 nights while visiting family locally and found it very convenient for the car ferry and as a base for exploring Normandy D-Day beaches.

My wife and I were made to feel very welcome by the reception team and restaurant staff during our stay. We are currently learning how to speak French and are greatful for the patience of the staff there. We will definatley return to this hotel. Great modern hotel. Convenient to ferry and then an easy 5 minute walk into town for restaurants, shops etc. Rooms are spacious in a modern style and have views over the harbour. Hotel has free parking which is relatively (not totally) secured. Conveniently located next to The Eleis shopping centre and Carrefour supermarket. Ate in the restaurant one night and found the choice a bit limited but what we got was tasy, well presented, and with a good service. Top tip - Walk across the bridge into the town centre for a larger choice of restaurants.

Welcome site (sight) at the end of a long day

We had just come from a frustrating experience trying to fuel our rental car (Cherburg is a maze of one way streets) and had to walk from the drop off to the hotel as it was just starting to rain. We got in the doors and were warmly greeted by the desk clerk. I speak a little French, but she clearly explained everything to us with a genuine smile. The hotel was perfectly located for us, with a view of the old town and the fishing boats.The next morning a quick walk across the pedestrian bridge put us among the shops and open air markets we love to visit.
We chose to eat dinner at the hotel and watch the rain from a warm environment. The meal was good, the service typical ill-prepared American helped by the patient staff, and we had a wonderful conversation with an English woman just starting her holiday. The only negative I could say was when we went to the bar for a nightcap it felt like the staff was trying to finish up and get out. But I would not say they were unfriendly.
Finally, we walked 20-25 minutes to the ferry terminal with our bags. I wished there was a shuttle service from the middle of town rather than from the edge of the port where it is currently located. No reflection on the hotel, we would gladly stay here again.

Really nice stay at the Mercure in Cherbourg. It's walking distance from everything you need for a weekend getaway. As foot passengers on the ferry from Portsmouth we took the free shuttle bus which drops you at the end of the road where the hotel is located. It took us less than 10 minutes walk. Really clean rooms and friendly staff. We didn't have breakfast there so cant comment on that but we had some drinks in the bar which were nice and bar staff very attentive. The overall experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all four of us. Thank you!

Great first night!

My wife was a little sceptical about our first road-trip hotel in the port town of Cherbourg, but there was no need. The hotel itself was one of our best of the week, and is ideally - yet quietly - located a stone's throw from the centre of town.

The room itself was superbly comfortable and very quiet.

There is a good-sized free car park and our rate included breakfast comprising a great selection of typical French fare.

Considering the star rating it is a pity that the hotel could not provide china cups in the rooms as tea out of a paper cup just does not taste right. In addition the room air conditioning was stuck on heating and the extractor fans in the bathroom and toilet areas did not work.

Overall this was a great weekend break. As non French speakers, it was impossible to understand the menu in the restaurant as they didn't have an English description available and as hard as the waitress tried, she didn't know what some of the options were in English so we ended up ordering just a meal & went to the Chinese buffet restaurant opposite the hotel. Our breakfast experience could have been better had we received assistance and guidance. My partner wanted a boiled egg and picked an egg from the bowl that was next to the cooked breakfast, when he cracked it, it was raw and went all over his breakfast. We didn't get any assistance from the staff so we were rather disappointed. I guess I have to learn French.

Great Hotel very close to the City Centre

A terrific hotel within walking distance to the city's centre for great restaurants and shopping. The hotel is only a year old and has all of the upscale amenities that one might want or need. Very clean and modern rooms with very comfortable beds and roomy showers, which for those that have travelled in France or Europe in general, this is a definite plus! The hotel staff are knowledgeable, marvelous and friendly. We were there last week, July 12-14, 2016 and the weather couldn't have been nicer. Temperatures were in the high 60's and lots and lots of sunshine, which for a coastal city right on the English Channel is rare. The Leffe beers at Les Boucaniers outdoor café were awesome! A must visit place to sit outside and people watch while enjoying a beverage of your choice.

L’hotel Mercure di Cherbourg è posizionato sulla marina del porto dotato di parcheggio privato è molto vicino al centro della città, e a pochi minuti di macchina o 15 minuti a piedi dalla Citè de Mer.
Ho apprezzato l’architettura moderna, le camere nuove, silenziose e molto spaziose con tavolo e sedie, la vista sul porto con tramonti imperdibili. Il prezzo è eccezionale per la qualità dell’albergo. Consigliatissimo se ci si deve fermare a Cherbourg, dove non dormirei altrove.

Très bel hôtel, récent et donc très bon état général.
Personnel très poli et accueillant ce qui est agréable.
La literie est top, la vue mer et sur le port géniale.
Quasiment que du positif sauf:
Le checkout ou une personne seule pour un départ de week-end de 3 jours avec touts les terminaux de paiement en panne. Il aurait fallu quelqu’un qui la seconde pour ce rush et aider à la remise au point des terminaux.
Et le petit-déjeuner qui a la fois excellent en termes d’offres produits et gentillesse du personnel mais avec, la aussi, un gros problème pour gérer les rush aux horaires de pointe. Bilan, énormément de rupture (je pense 30 a 40% des produits le deuxième jour du séjour) et bien que 10/12 minutes plus tard ce soit à peu près rempli en produits, la vague des ruptures a fait que notre pdj et ceux de nombreux autres clients s’en plaignant autour de nous était passée. Bref, il faudrait anticiper la rupture pour ne pas la subir.
Donc au global content du séjour mais avec de vrais bémols.

Zeer mooie kamer met mooi uitzicht. Alleen niet erg verduisterd. Airco bediening scherm bleef ook heel de nacht licht uitstralen. Airco deed het ook niet erg best. Eten was heerlijk, maar iets wat weinig. En persooneel leek totaal onvoorbereid op de komst van gasten. Des ondanks deden ze erg hun best en waren ze erg aardig. Aanrader dit hotel.
