I would definitely stay here again, it was such a great location to catch the ferry from Cherbourg and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We checked in quite late, around 7pm, parking and taking my dog were no problem, it was all so easy and in an incredibly impressive historical building. There is a restaurant in the hotel which we didn’t try and also quite a few other places to eat within the town. It felt very safe and quiet.

Not flexible with check in

Our plane arrived late and we had significant issues getting a taxi or Uber to the hotel. I called the hotel to ask about checking in later and they said get here before 9 pm or be locked out. We were not able to make it and there were no vacancies within 40 miles. My sister and I ended up sleeping outside because by the time we got to the hotel no one was there and no one answered the phone. We also did not get a refund for the night we slept outdoors. The hotel is not accommodating to unexpected travel delays. I would strongly suggest booking somewhere else or making sure you can 100% make it before 9pm.

Alone in a chateau!

As it was late January we were the only guests. After about an hour there were also no staff at the hotel, so we were alone until someone came in to prepare breakfast. This felt very strange and uncomfortable. We would not stay there again.

This hotel has been a firm favourite of ours for a number of years, and continues to be so, however, parking is now not permitted in the grounds of the Chateau and it is necessary to park in the town square, which has a major detrimental affect on the attraction of this hotel.

Regular here, but they're on a last chance!

Stayed here with my wife, on our way back to Cherbourg to catch a ferry.
Service was pretty patchy, as I was initially assigned a standard room, having paid for a higher level room. I had to go back to reception and fight my corner with a receptionist who initially suggested I was just looking for an on-the-spot upgrade. Luckily I had my hotels.com confirmation, so they had to put me in the correct room.
Cleanliness was not perfect, but bed & pillows very comfortable.
Parking in the ground is now an issue, and again, I had to fight to be allowed to leave the car in the car parking area in the courtyard.
I have been staying in this hotel every year for the last 6 or 7 years, and despite the change in ownership 2 years ago, the uplift in the hotel standard has not kept up with an initial improvement.
Really not sure if I would stay again, but the location is exceptional.

A characterful property in a pleasant village. It is within easy reach of all the places we wished to visit - e.g. Mont St Michel, the WW2 beaches, Bayeaux etc.The restaurant is particularly evocative and the dinner served there was excellent. Without exception the staff were efficient and courteous.
This was our second stay at the Chateau and we certainly look forward to staying again in the future.

Not as good as expected

We got off to a bad start as our Expedia document said we could check in from 2 pm. We arrived at 3.30 to be greeted with a paper note on the door stating that reception was closed until 5pm. The hotel is very old and characterful but very dated and really could do with a spruce-up. However our room was very clean as was the bedding and towels. We had a good meal in the very attractive restaurant, but did not have breakfast so can't comment. Overall a reasonable one night stopover.

Really lovely!! Totally recommend!

Such a lovely place to stay for the start of our holiday. The staff are all charming and very welcoming. We ate in the restaurant which was excellent, the service was exemplary and the food of a very good standard. We understand that the place has been under new management for a year and changes are being made to improve the customer experience, but we were very pleased with the way it was! The surroundings are really interesting and picturesque..all in all, a truly memorable stay. Thank you to all the staff for making it so.

Stunning Medieval Castle with Superb Staff

We stayed in this historic castle for one night in a family room (Queen Victoria's!). We got lost on the way due to a local fete and the hotel staff even came out to find us and guide us through the medieval archway into the castle courtyard. They were very friendly and helpful and have also posted on my son's precious toy penguin who had gone exploring under the bed. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was excellent. This was a very memorable stay that I recommend highly.

If you like Q for Quirk you’ll like this hotel

Stopped here as it’s a short drive from Cherbourg and wanted to chill before doing the long drive down to the South of France with my dog. Hotel is a bit frayed round the edges but I like that, friendly staff, no frills in the room but in the heart of this small town so you can get a dose of being authentically in a working town as soon as you arrive. Easy parking in the courtyard - wasn’t too struck by the food but loved the restaurant itself. Excellent pit stop if you’ve just arrived and you’re not Uber fussy about quick service etc

Chateau hotel, close to Cherbourg ferries!

Location in an old castle in the centre of the town, truly unique! This is an older hotel, which is being upgraded under new management, and seems to be going in the right direction. Beds now replaced, and very comfortable. New outdoor area with tables, chairs, parasols, etc.
Stay here on a Sunday night and you can enjoy the local market on Monday morning!
Very handy if you are heading back to Cherbourg for a ferry, and want somewhere close-by to stay the night before.
Have used previously, and will use again. Highly recommended.

Very nice historic hotel with excellent service

This is a beautiful hotel in a historic setting with a good restaurant and friendly service. The hotel and rooms are nicely decorated and the whole place makes you feel your are in a castle. We were a given a family room with one double bed and two single beds and plenty of space to move around. The hosts were very welcoming and attentive to our needs, including in the restaurant where our large family was given a dedicated table. A great stay in a charming location!

Another great stay at the Chateau Du Bricquebec

The hotel is situated in a Castle in the middle of town. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and beaches are only a short drive away. The highlights of any stay here have to be the friendly welcome and the amazing (and reasonably priced) food in the restaurant.

Great welcome, proper chateau, comfy beds

This is a proper old fashioned country house style property with old fashioned furniture and perfectly adequate facilities. (including TV and free Wifi). We had a splendid welcome and ate in the restaurant, 2 of 3 were vegetarians and instead of the dreaded plate of unseasoned steamed vegetables so usual in France, Chef has taken all the interesting veggie components for main dishes and complied a very tasty and interesting plate. Joy.
I have to note the beds were very very comfortable and the linen expensive.

Lovely Overnight Stay

Stayed for one night after arriving on the ferry at Cherbourg and en route to our cottage in Brittany. Our room, number 2, was superb, very spacious and possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The bathroom could do with updating but didn't spoil the experience in any way. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Staff pleasant, we would definitely stay here again.

We loved this Chateau!

We were trying to find a good place to stay overnight while touring through Normandy. We really were lucky to find this place, which was well worth going a little out of the way to stay. It was pretty neat to stay at this Chateau, which did not lack in modern amenities, including wi-fi. The staff was very friendly, and a big plus was the wonderful on-site restaurant, at which we had a superb dinner. Especially enjoyable was the opportunity to meet other guests and share travel experiences. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Charming, medieval inn with excellent food

L'Hostelerie du Chateau is delightful. It is in a medieval building in the center of Briquebec, Normandy and offers, I believe, 12 rooms. Bricquebec is a small town with pleasant streets for walking, a few cafes and shops. The staff is expert and cordial. Every staff member has some English and everyone is patient with one's attempts to speak French. My party and I are very glad to have stayed there and would return happily. The rooms are immaculate. The building is very old, the furnishings are also old--not medieval-- but comfortable and attractive. The beds were very comfy (new mattresses). The food is outstanding. The wine selection is a well-selected small list with bottles ranging from moderate to a bit expensive. The chef's recommendations are good. There is a pleasant library where one can read and enjoy tea or other drinks. The dining room is elegant; breakfast is served in a smaller, pretty room. Breakfast is a buffet of crusty bread, flakey croissants, fruit, fruit juice, cheese, and sliced ham and sausage. There is also cafe au lait with properly warmed milk if you wish. Plain coffee and tea.I recommend L'Hostelerie enthusiastically.

A favourite stopping place of ours

Our 5th visit, an overnight stay, en route elsewhere, was just as good as previous visits. Lovely welcome, comfortable room, and, as usual, one of the best meals to be found in France. We cannot speak too highly of this hotel, which in our experience has been top class and excellent value over many years.

Stopped off en route to Dinan

My sister and her husband are over from California and we thought it would be a great place to stop off overnight on our way to our home in Dinan for a few days. It proved an almighty success as there is nothing that old in the US! We also had dinner in the restaurant which was buzzing and it was a very reasonable way to start our holiday.

Overall the meal in the hotel was pleasant but the beef rump steak was so tough I could hardly cut it, never mind trying to chew it! Ideal first stop after arriving at Cherbourg

Lovely historical hotel in centre of the town (Prince Albert stayed there) with fantastic restaurant. Ideally located in the middle of the peninsula so can visit both sides. We were interested in the 1944 events so this was an ideal base for the first day allowing us to visit the west coast (eg Carteret) as well as Montebourg and Utah beach before we headed on down the coast. It is a very friendly and welcoming hotel with delicious food. Ideal first stop as such an easy car ride from Cherbourg.

A Big Let Down

The welcome and hotel staff attentiveness was good but thereafter things were not good. The roof was under repair which meant dripping water on the bedroom ceiling, workmen starting with great noise at 7.45 ! in a morning; no safety netting to stop nails and small bits of wood falling on us as we exited the front door of the hotel. The room itself had several problems; a hole in the wash basin plug so water just drained away, blood stained bed cover, a messy lay out, a small and uncorfortable double bed, dirty shower curtain and mirror ,small bottled water at 4 euros ago.

Thank you!

This hotel forms part of a castle, it has an associated impeccable restaurant in the knight's hall, and the family room we stayed in was very generously sized. The owner and staff were extremely welcoming and polite.

So there you have it: warm hospitality, a great restaurant, great accomodations, all in the context of a castle. If you are in the area, your family wil probably love it as much as we did.

En route to Le Mans

This hotel is built into the ramparts of the old castle, the location is stunning & it's a very beautiful, short route to or from Cherbourg. The rooms are a little dated but more than compensated for by the fabric of the building, the fact that they are built into the old building and by the enthusiastic staff. Staying here is an event not to be missed!

Stay at a Chateau

What a dream to stay in a building built 500 years before there was an America. A little rustic but you can't go wrong. The staff was wonderful, the restaurant gourmet, and the history is everywhere you turn. Small, intimate, romantic, like living in a fantasy for the evening. And a great location for exploring Normandy. You can't go wrong here

The hotel provides excellent food and service in a unique environment - not many hotels are sited within the grounds of a medieval castle. The management and staff are very friendly and helpful and the cleanliness of all areas of the hotel is good. Hotel and restaurant inside a castle

The hotel occupies a unique location within the walls of a medieval castle in Bricquebec, a small town south-west of Cherbourg. It has very comfortable rooms, a good restaurant, pleasant and welcoming staff and, overall, offers very good value for money. The interior decoration, especially in the lavatory in our room (2) would benefit from freshening-up and some attention paid to the woodwork, which is a little flimsy. Generally, however, I rate this hotel very highly.

Good experience to stay in a chateau and perfect for a stop off before Cherbourg Ferry. Rooms were OK and clean and the staff were lovely. Food wasn't really for kids - better for couples who had time to enjoy the experience. Lots of things for the kids to see and the experience of staying in a chateau probably worth it.

Unexpected Delight!!

We needed a 1 night stop-over on our return to the UK & found this hotel - i thought the kids would enjoy staying in a Castle (a bit of fun) but my expectations of the standard weren't high. When we arrived in Bricquebec, not sure of how to find it, there it was standing proud in the centre of the village, couldn't be missed!! It was a beautiful setting, the kids loved it & the bonus was that the standard was great!! We had a lovely welcome at reception, our family room had 2 beautiful, comfortable double beds with a clean en suite, large windows overlooking the castle grounds, flat screen TV, sofa and armchair. We assumed that we would eat in a restaurant in the village but that was my only disappointment - there wasn't much else in the village so we decided to eat at the hotel. They were very accommodating to our kids (i was worried as my kids were aged 5 & 7 and this restaurant was 'fine dining' as opposed to Pizza or Moules & Frites). The dining room was very atmospheric - suits of armour and coats of arms and appeared to be popular & busy. There was a kids menu which was good. And our meal was delicious! It wasn't cheap, but we considered it a last night treat. Continental breakfast in the morning was back in the dining room - just what you'd expect from a French hotel; juices, pain & croissants, fruit & yoghurts (don't expect a full EB). Total bill was expensive for one night in the end but worth it as a treat. I would recommend this hotel, better than expected.

Character and Convenient to Cherbourg

We wanted an overnight stop close to Cherbourg prior to catching a ferry. This hotel was ideally situated and set in a castle, stained glass windows, old wood, character furniture, comfy bed, it provided a lovely, quiet, overnight stop. We didn't use the restaurant as we only wanted a light snack, but there were bars 100yds away which served those. When we got home we discovered that we must have left a bag in the car park. I e-mailed the hotel, they had found it and posted they it to us that afternoon. Fantastic service.

Lots of character

If your idea of a good hotel is crisp and modern, this place won't appeal to you at all. It is full of charm and quirky character, with squeaky floorboards and vintage furnishings and long and winding hallways. And of course it's in a real castle. The view out my window was of the adjoining tower - unbeatable! The bathroom was newly remodelled and the breakfast was reasonable. All in all I enjoyed my stay here.
