Lovely overnight stay

Lovely overnight stay. Small room and en-suite but fine for one night. Good buffet breakfast had everything we needed. Good location for bars, shops and restaurants but not noisy. We didn’t have a car, but the public car park was 5 minutes away. We will stay there again.

But when you get there you discover its a car park that is down the road and around a corner, that is only free after a certain time and if you get there after this time, you have very little hope if finding any parking.

The room had been renovated beautifully. Fully rewired with usb charging points and a plethora of lighting options.
The bed was very comfortable with a bolster, two pillows and a decorative cushion per person, the most pillows we've ever encountered in France!
Despite Cherbourg undergoing significant utility and road revamping, it made little impact in the hotel. Free parking was easily available within a few minutes walk 😀

Quiet hotel in Cherbourg town centre

Pleasent little hotel in a back street in Cherbourg town centre.
The hotel is in a charming old building and my room overlooked a quiet courtyard out the back.
Service was great and the room was clean and comfortable... but quite small.
Absolutely fine for a single person for 1 night. But might be a bit cramped if you are sharing or staying a bit longer. I imagine they have bigger rooms available too though.
I would happily stay here again.

Nice hotel with great breakfast (though a bit pricey) family room was on the top (3rd) floor- hotel has no lift and a spiral staircase with some loose fitting carpet - so not the best after a long days driving. The room was a bit small for 4 but was clean and the beds were very comfortable, hotel in a quiet location and a good nights sleep was had by all.

A good, reasonably priced clean and friendly hotel

We were on a short break and this hotel exactly fitted the bill for our overnight stay. Friendly, comfortable and clean. We particularly liked the internal courtyard/garden area with a well which would be lovely on a summers evening. Some rooms overlooked this and would be very nice. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and varied. The hotel was close to the port so easy to get to when the ferry arrived and is in the central Cherbourg area allowing us to walk to our various destinations once checked in. Would stay here again.

Good hotel, but noisy at night

Nice clean hotel in the process of being modernised. The service was friendly and good. The carpets are showing their age, and need to be replaced. We stayed three nights, and the bed was comfortable. However, the nights were warm, and we needed the windows open, which meant we were exposed to a lot of noise from the night club just down the road - until the early hours.

Nice hotel in great location

We needed an overnight stop in Cherbourg. We normally stay in one of the big, soulless hotels out of town. The Moderna is right in the city centre, close to restaurants, bars and shops. Despite this, it is easily accessed, a short drive from the ferry terminal. The hotel does not have its own car park, but there is plenty of free parking in nearby public car parks, and in the street outside the hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet, with a new bathroom.

Small, but tiny.

WiFi was very challenged. Room was tiny. Enough room for the bed, but not much else. The bathroom was so small, I found it difficult to brush my teeth. The shower was just large enough to stand in it very still with my arms at my sides, but not big enough to move enough to wash. I suspect it may be a repurposed coffin. I slept reasonably well.

No thrills Super Value.Hotel.

We popped over to Cherbourg to watch the Tour de France. The hotel is great if all you need is a quiet, comfortable clean room for a short stay. If your needs are for a more Luxurious Hotel with all the facilities, and a then you had better go elsewhere. The Money we saved on the Hotel went towards a very nice meal in a more expensive restaurant than we would usually frequent....So a great weekend away.

Lovely one-night stop

I stayed one night as I I was visiting my son who is working locally. This reasonably priced hotel was a very pleasant surprise. I had a single room overlooking an indoor patio area which I thought was lovely. The room was small but well appointed and freshly decorated. The bathroom was also quite tiny but again looked newly refurbished. The staff were pleasant, chatty and accommodating. For 7 euros, breakfast was a good continental breakfast with a small buffet of fruit, yogurt, cereals etc. Again, perfectly pleasant . The situation was very central, only a few minutes from the shops and restaurants, yet on a quiet street.

The Hotel Moderna in Cherbourg is conveniently located on a downtown street just around the corner from the harbor. It is in walking distance to several restaurants and stores. There was no designated parking area but we did find a spot almost right in front of the hotel, free until 9 a.m. Overall Cherbourg was not one of my favorite places we visited but our stay at Hotel Moderna was certainly pleasant! Despite checking in late we received a friendly welcome from the owner. The room was basic but spotlessly clean and comfortable with a nice sized bathroom. One thing I want to mention, and this goes for all the hotels we stayed in France: The water quality & pressure are excellent!!! A really lovely breakfast was offered for a reasonable charge, served by a kind, attentive hostess. There were freshly picked garden roses on each table which was a nice touch!

Excellent location about 100 meters to a row of restaurants on the sea front. Very friendly hotel reception lady. For a two star, I thought it was pretty good. Clean rooms. There is a bar opposite so you do hear some people milling around on a Saturday night. Parking available right outside the front door. Stairs are not child friendly but my kids loved sliding down. Did not notice a lift and I was on the third floor. Don’t expect bell boys. At 2 star, it’s not that sort of place. Breakfast was I think 8 Euros. I gave that a skip. Nice shower.

Great hotel for short break in Cherbourg centre

Nice clean hotel with friendly efficient staff. Beds were comfortable, room basic but adequate for a one night stay, Very convenient for exploring the city as the centre is literally a 5 minute walk away. Parking was available immediately outside the hotel and was free which was a bonus. Only five minutes away from the ferry port and easy to find. View from our room was into the street, not very inspiring but we only use our room to sleep, so wasn't a problem for us. There was no street noise and the hotel was also very quiet so we had a very peaceful night's sleep. We would definitely use this hotel again for 1-2 nights stay, any longer and I think I would become frustrated with the lack of space to relax, lack of proper dressing table and power points etc. We didn't eat breakfast so can't comment on the food, there are plenty of places to eat very close by. Generally, good value for money so we were happy with our choice.

The staff (such as there were) did only the bare minimum on check-in. There is no elevator/lift, so if you've got heavy suitcases, prepare for a long haul up stairs. Our bed was simply two singles shoved together. The only thing saving this from me rating this one-star is that the wi-fi worked, we had a nice view, and the hotel wasn't too far from the ferry terminal or train station. If this is the best hotel Cherbourg can offer up, it clearly isn't focused on encouraging visitors to linger. Serviceable for a one-night stay, otherwise avoid.

Very pleasant people and a good place to stay in the centre of Cherbourg. The only downer is the lack of parking but this is a common problem with a small hotel so close to the centre of a wonderful town. Great for shopping and eating out.

Returning from Classic Le Mans & would stay again.

The room and en-suite were modern and attractive, with a large comfortable bed. The owner was very welcoming and helpful regarding local restaurants, shops etc. Breakfast was rather disappointing; only coffee, juice and bread/croissants (no cereals, fruit or cheese/ham) and cost 7.5 euros each. Location for the ferry- excellent. Parking could prove a problem, although we were lucky to be able to park immediately outside.

Perfectly clean and comfortable B&B near port. Near port still means a short taxi ride (less than $10) - there did not seem to be anything any closer. Room was perfectly comfortable and clean. Manager spoke enough English to help me with the few questions that I had. Many cafes and informal places to eat within a couple of blocks. We only stayed one night as we transfer from late ferry to early morning train. Ideal place for simple night of sleep.

la salle de bains, avec de longs cheveux dans la douche ainsi que sur les murs qui on du être frotté avec une serviette sale .. sans vous parler des poils !!! (Voir photo)

Bref, au prix de la chambre, c’est triste…

Séjour très désagréable à l'hôtel Moderna. Pas de parking et chambre au troisième. Personne pour vous aider à porter les bagages (j'avais trois bagages dont une valise la personne de l'accueil m'a regardé monté sans aucune remarque). Salle de bain très vieillote, lunette des WC à moitié défaire...

Pas d’incident majeur, mais globalement en dessous des standards de l’hôtellerie pour un 3*, autant pour l’aménagement du lieu que le service du personnel. Peu fidèle à la description : un accès aux chambres extérieur façon motel américain où les fenêtres donnent sur une coursive. Propreté impeccable, à part un cendrier avec un mégo sous ma fenêtre.

3 jours a Cherbourg au Moderna

2 nuits en famille, chambre, wc, douche, tout etait tres propre. Une fois dans la chambre, c'est calme mais petit ! La literie est excellente. La jeune receptionniste accueillante, la femme de menage gentille, discrete et professionnelle. Hotel proche du site du sous marin le Redoutable, du centre ville, des petits commerces de proximite. Places de stationnement gratuites a 5 mn proches. Nous avons tout fait a pied. Hotel tres bien pour quelques jours.
