We splurged, hoping for a top of the line experience. The hotel is very attractive. The staff was friendly. However, corners were cut in ways that didn't make sense for a place that costs well over $300 night. The complimentary breakfast was very basic, Hampton Inn variety food. There were not actual coffee mugs. Just those foamy paper type cups. The Earl puts a lot of effort into maintaining two bars. Martini glasses abound. Couldn't we have a simple coffee cup?

Typical, rather nice boutique style property. Well maintained, pleasant front desk staff. We requested accessibility, found the bathroom good, nice roll in shower.
Comfortable bed. One minor issue was the thermostat, apparently would not allow room to warm higher than 70F.
Only major negative was our location on first floor. We could hear every step of party in room above us. Dropping shoes late at night woke us up, just a major distraction. I suspect the property wasn’t that soundproofed combined with guests that were very careless and noisy.

Absolutely loved the Earl. The location was perfect- walking distance to all the shops, bars, restaurants etc. The room and bed were comfortable, the amenities were on point and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable- would absolutely recommend and would stay again.

We found the Hotel Earl of Charlevoix to be a gem! Our room was clean and cozy, and the staff was super helpful and quick to answer any questions. The breakfast of hot waffles was tasty, but what really made our stay special was the electric vehicle (EV) charging stations right there. They made our first trip from Central Virginia to Northern Michigan in our EV so much easier and less stressful. Plus, the hotel’s great spot near downtown Charlevoix was a big plus. We could just walk around Charlevoix, and the on-site EV charger was a huge convenience, since we also had to commute a few times to Petoskey for our daughter. We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Earl of Charlevoix and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a luxurious hotel experience in the Petoskey and Charlevoix area.

Love the unique lobby area with fireplace. Very well put together. I stay every year. Great ecclectic rooms and decor. Wish the rooftop firepits worked. Was told the fire marshal said not allowed. Was mayfly season so great rooftop area still couldn't be used. Says rooftop bar but it's never in use, not a big deal, go downstairs to get drinks. Don't know why they don't figure out a net system to keep the mayflies out of the rooftop so it can be enjoyed and great views up there. Rooftop bar and firepits are one reason I choose Hotel Earl but can't enjoy that. Decent breakfast and bar and 24 hr coffee/tea bar.

I stayed at Hotel Earl Charlevoix in May 2026. This hotel is in a perfect location to walk around the city, and the staff are very nice. At check in, I received a complementary upgrade to a room with balcony. Room was very spacious and very clean. But, here are the problems during my stay:
Water pressure was very low in room on third floor making it difficult to shower.
AC noise was very loud, and I had to turn it off.
Noise from adjacent rooms and hallway was really bad which woke me up several times at night.
Breakfast was very basic. No bread, and no hot items. Low quality stuff. Coffee tasted terrible. Cut fruit was bad and not eatable.
Rooftop bar should be nice. But , I couldn’t use during my stay because the first day they had sprayed insect control, and on the second day it was rainy.
Overall, based on my experience, I’m not sure if I can recommend this hotel with such a high nightly rate.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Property is well kept but parking is insufficient to handle the number of guests' vehicles. Breakfast is continental but is complete enough to be a good full breakfast. We wish the bedroom had a door on it for privacy from the other living/sleeping area. We hear all the suites on site are that way.

We have an annual tradition of staying at The Hotel Earl for my daughter’s birthday. This was our third time doing so and it was as fantastic as ever! Every stay has been flawless. The staff is always top notch and works so hard to make sure my daughter’s birthday that we always celebrate in the lobby is amazing! They treated her and my son to ice cream this year as well! The rooms are so spacious and clean and the bathrooms are so nice. There are so many nice touches throughout the entire hotel. Our kids love the pool and we love the outdoor hot tub as well! We look forward to coming back again next year!!

Bring your own pillows. Pillows at hotel are absolutely awful. Guests from other rooms agreed. Nice place overall. View has been overgrown by trees and surrounding buildings making it difficult to see anything. Most places and hotels bikes don’t start or are open until May. Breakfast was acceptable to good, but nothing special.

The Stay was ok, The hotel has a lot of rooms and only 20 parking spaces, they were telling people to park on Dixon a side street. The problem was it was snowing for days and the road was all slush and water. I asked why they didn't use the two vans they have as courtesy shuttles because people were parking up to a half mile away. The response from staff was they can't. Made no sense. The room was ok, except the open wifi didn't work the signal wasn't strong enough to work a moment I had to go to he lobby area with all the kids and families it was loud. I was on the 3rd floor. The breakfast had some issues, the waffle maker was not clean, it looked like a bbq grille that hadn't been cleaned. Its all they had too, no eggs, bacon or anything. Cereal and bagels, and waffles. It wasn't a horrible experience but I expected more from Charlevoix.

While the Hotel Earl is a clean, modern, and perfectly located gem near downtown Charlevoix, my off-season stay was a mixed bag due to winter conditions and maintenance hurdles. The room was immaculate and the front desk staff was incredibly polite and accommodating, but the experience was dampened by an unplowed parking lot and the loss of major amenities, including a closed pool and hot tub due to a leak and an unattended lobby bar. Because I booked through a third-party vendor, no compensation could be offered for these missing features—and I even ended up paying for my full two-day reservation despite checking out a day early—but as I wasn't there on vacation, it was a manageable trade-off. I would certainly return during the peak season to experience the hotel at its full potential, especially to enjoy the rooftop bar overlooking the lake.

We had a room with king bed and comfortable couch/sleeper. Room and bath were tended each day and everything was clean. Only hot breakfast items were make your own waffles or oatmeal, but pastries looked above average and fruit and hard boiled egg available also along with juices and yogurt. Fun coffee/latte/hot chocolate maker. Staff always responsive. Enjoyed the fireplace in the lobby too.

We were placed in a room next to the main drag of town, so it was incredibly loud with semi trucks all night. It wasn’t a restful stay. Wish we could've experienced a different part of the hotel.
