We stayed in many hotels along the circle but Vest Mar was the best of all !
My family was very impressed with the location and nicely done room arrangements with dining table. The kitchen had all necessary plates and dishes. We all agreed if we re-visit Iceland Vest Mar will be the only hotel we need to book for the duration of stay.

The Vestmar has nice rooms overlooking a working harbor, not “breathtaking ocean views” as advertised. Large, clean, updated rooms are on the second floor. They say they offer “unparalleled service,” but be prepared to carry your suitcases up the stairs.

In room coffee is good and they give you some chocolate. This is a very nice hotel but they should alert guests that there is no elevator and handicapped stay isn’t possible.

What a delightful place to stay! We had a large room with huge bed overlooking the fishing docks and bay. If we had a room on the other side of the hotel, we would have seen mountains and the Baejarfoss waterfall. The room had a large TV, loveseat, chair, desk, and room for extra storage. The bathroom was well equipped. This is a great place to stay for a few days if exploring the Snaefellsnes peninsula (comfort, food, gas, grocery, excursions). We ate dinner in the restaurant below, and this was a fantastic dinner. Check-in was literally arriving, going to the room, and entering the given code. Super easy. Highly recommend staying at VestMar!

The town is a great stopover during a road trip, though its food options are limited and everything closes on the earlier side, so check hours before you go. Property was nice, staff was friendly, room was big and clean. Restaurant in the lobby was great for relaxing after a long day with a glass of wine and an appetizer. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The restaurant below offers a small discount if you are a hotel guest and isn't bad.

The only problem with this place is that there is no one to check you in and help you. The wifi password was hard to find and the door doesn't close properly. The restaurant is the \"help\".

There are steep stairs going up to the second floor where the bedrooms are - no elevators. Even a carry-on luggage was difficult to haul up.

This is by far the best hotel we stayed in Iceland. Nestled in the northern side of Snaefellesnes peninsula in Olasvik, the hotel is a very reasonable distance from Kirkjufellfoss. The room was spacious, and very clean.
When I called up the customer service and asked to move me to a room with kitchen, she gladly did that for me. Such a nice gesture. We are a family of 4 and this was a family room with ocean view. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Never received code to check in. Upon arrival had to call number, owner found us, was very friendly, and got us checked in, The hotel seemed to be one floor on top of a strip mall. We missed it the first drive by. I had reservations at first. No lobby, no amenities. Upon entering the room, we couldn’t have been more surprised. Stayed in a different hotel every night. This was the most spacious and comfortable room. Sitting areas for us so we don’t have to sit on the bed. Coffee maker for pods or tea. Room very clean, bed very comfortable, ocean view a little obscure, but good. Room is not oceanfront. It is ocean view. Area fantastic, charming little walkable village. Great for watching sunset. Restaurant only open 2 hrs for breakfast (not free) so we did not get to it. most disappointing but nothing to do with the hotel about 11 PM, there was a screaming child in the room next to us who continued to scream & cry most of the night, so almost zero sleep. Again nothing to do with the hotel. Our room was fantastic. Loved it and would stay again. Area fabulous.

Normally, the property sends us the access code 24 to 48 hours before our arrival, but we did not receive it. On the day of our arrival, we tried calling their phone number multiple times, but no one answered. Concerned that it might be a scam, we decided to arrive early, around 3 PM.

When we arrived, there was a phone on-site that we used to call them repeatedly. Eventually, a lady answered and told us she was busy and couldn't provide the code, instructing us to come back after 4 PM.

When we returned at 4 PM, a man was there who helped us call the lady (presumably the manager). We finally received the access code, but it was only after entering the room that we received an email with the room number and access code.

This experience significantly disrupted our travel plans and diminished our overall impression of the property. I would advise against booking this property due to the poor communication and lack of timely support.

An inn located by the sea, you can check in by yourself with a password sent to you. The guest rooms are on the second floor, and the restaurant is on the ground floor, so it is very convenient for food and accommodation.

First of all, it’s a non-refundable booking. We booked the room day at the first, found it out right away. Tried to cancel it and book the next day. On the phone with Expedia; unable to cancel it at all. Expedia gave us partial refund; then we booked it again the next day. Received the confirmation emails with no check in instructions. Arrived before 9pm, called via the phone provided at the doorway, that lady spoke too fast and I had to ask her to slow down to get the code. Then she made me like an idiot…
No elevator. Not convenient with large suitcases.

Spacious room with couch and tablet! Four real beds as we booked. That’s a plus. Some pots and pans in the kitchen, but no salt or oil.

It was roomy enough. The curtains let in a lot of light, which made sleeping rough since there is so much daylight in May. No elevator. I had questions before checking in and tried to call the provided phone number, with no answer. The self check-in did work fine, though. There are few restaurants in Olafsvik, so be aware this hotel does not provide breakfast. We got yogurt and pastries at the local supermarket.

- something in the room have myself and my wife food poisoning; either the coffee or the spoons/cups.
- the blinds don’t really cover the windows properly so during summer when the sun doesn’t set, lots of light comes in and it’s hard to sleep.
- the shower is tiny- almost unusable.

This hotel has all the basics and it was clean. That said, we felt like we were scammed by the management. 30 minutes before check in I received an email that they had trouble processing the payment through Expedia. I called them and they said they couldn’t use another card over the phone, only Expedia could update it. So I contact Expedia, and they wouldn’t update it. After an hour between Expedia and the hotel, the only thing we could do would be to cancel it and rebook, however it would be in the 24 hour window of no cancellation, the hotel said they would wave the fees. They assured me they had plenty of rooms even though the website said they did not have the same type and rate. Once I cancelled, my rooms would come available. However this didn’t happen, and I could only book the larger room at a higher rate. So. This very basic room cost me 300$ more because they wouldn’t allow me to change my payment method. Also we needed to book two rooms because we were a party of 5, it turns out the room that we had had 4 beds and a sofa bed, so we only needed one room- and ended up paying for two ) at a higher rate).

The property itself was fine, simple but clean and close to restaurants, grocery store and gasoline. The check-in was very confusing and I was told I needed to call at least 72 hours in advance to get the access code, yet no one answered the phone until after 4 PM on the day of check-in; we were very concerned about having to sleep in our car that night which was very stressful during our vacation.

- dishes are not cleaned professionally. Based on discussion with the cleaning service we realized that the guests have to clean the dishes before leaving. That is unsanitary as anyone could just rinse and place it back with out proper washing.

- check in and check out times (4 pm/11am) are incorrect in the email that is recieved with code. Upon arrival there are many signs stating checking time is 3pm and out is 10am.


Overall the location triumphs the cons but just be aware of the above.

Lovely place, but hard to find. Only one small sign on building and easy to overlook the sign. Centrally located and on the best side of the peninsula which does not get the rain the other side gets. Located in a lovely little town. I highly recommend it.

Staying in guest houses for most of our trip, it was such a nice surprise to have a massive room and private bathroom to yourself. There is also a kitchenette if you want to cook. There is no formal check in or check out. You get emailed your room and door code, so have it ready. Short walk to the supermarket, restaurants, and the waterfall in town.

very basic apartment but value for money

the apartment is very old and you can even see power cables exposed on the wall. the frying pan is palm size, its so small that you can only fry one egg at a time. no lift in the building and i need to carry my luggage all the way up the stairs. i think the microwave is out of order as 15 seconds is the longest i could choose. i need to find something to support one of the table legs to stop the dining table from shaking.

Welcome apartment Ólafsvík is in a quaint little town right across the street from a great restaurant, where we ate two nights in a row. The hotel itself is older but spacious and clean with hard beds. One of the bedrooms didn’t have curtains, so bring an eyemask! Also, we were given a very partial roll of toilet paper with a full roll that was locked up. I emailed the people about getting to the toilet paper(since it is important!) and still have yet to hear a response. They will not get back with you if you need anything. Excellent place to stay

Best part is that it is entirely automated. Lovely rooms, kitchenette, lovely location near the Orca watching tour harbour and a lovely waterfall. Clean, 24x7 checkin. Good bathroom. I would gladly book it again

Very happy with this place

This place is a little hard to find as the company who owns it seem to have a few buildings. This property is on the harbour side above a row of shops, you will probably see the other property opposite, before you see this one.

Good communication from the agents, decent parking, felt very safe and secure and modern. Had everything you could want or need.

Would stay again and would recommend.

The tv DID NOT WORK and shower curtain dirty

I was disappointed because I kept asking to the woman that works there and she didn’t help us at All with a different remote . The tv was not working at all and the shower curtain was dirty like it hasn’t been clean in weeks .

The apt was in a good location .

The hotel is dated there is no lift or reception area or staff available, however the rooms are large and have everything you need. The beds need replacing the mattresses are so soft you sink completely.

Budget but good, and great for self-catering

Budget accommodation. Not the best beds, but clean and great facilities for self catering (no oven though). Warm and spacious. Harbour can be a bit noisy early morning, however the price you pay for a nice location.

Run Down and Unkept

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - although the room was very spacious, and had a kitchen area, it was extremely old and outdated, it gave you the feel that you were going to get bedbugs (although we did not), the couch was dirty, there were lightbulbs out in the room, the shower curtain had mold on it and the shower floor was peeling, the sink was tiny, and the towels had stains on them. The also didn't give you any soap to wash your hands. Even though there was a kitchen, there was nothing provided, so for those traveling and thinking there will be silverware or plates or even paper towels or kitchen towels, literally there is nothing. The wifi was pathetic. Theres not much to do in the town, so can't speak to the location. And there is no front desk staff, so if you needed anything, there was no one to ask. You get a code to access your door and so it is a very low budget process. I would never stay here again and would not recommend this to anyone.
