We had a lovely stay at Visakha. All staff were lovely and very helpful. Our villa was clean and the pool was so nice. Breakfast was delicious! Shuttle to and from Sanur centre was very handy also. Highly recommend!

The cottages are older but with Bali charm. If you want a laid back traditional experience. With exceptional friendly service you stay here.
Close enough to Sanur beaches and cafes and a lovely bike ride into town. Most enjoyable.

Not what I expected.... not the hotel's fault

Pros:
- Staff was very friendly and accomodating
- Issues were tended to in a quick manner
- Bed was comfy

Cons:
- The rooms are basically outside, mosquitoes coming thru the door slates
- The AC was only good for one spot because as mentioned; the room is basically an indoor/outdoor space
- Shower and toilet water pressure kept having issues
- Bathroom is \"open air\" with the humidity was no joke

We stayed here for two weeks. First impressions of the laneway leading to the hotel was awful but the gates opened up to a little garden of paradise.
Our room had a 9m private pool and beautiful garden!
It was our own little sanctuary :)
Yes, it’s very tired but there is expansion underway and it’ll be interesting to return to see what the updates look like.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and tidy.
If I were to find a negative, it would be the menu, it didn’t change and after the first week it became monotonous, especially breakfast. However, it seemed most visitors only stayed a few nights so probably didn’t notice!
It is a fair walk to the nearest restaurant and beach, 15 mins, the beach isn’t the best but I’m sure will improve as there’s extensive building happening on the sea front.
My advice would be to wait until 2027 if you’re after action, but if you want to unwind, kick back and relax, you can at the Visakha.

The rooms are dated and need some repair. When ordering food they put the service and government tax on the food which is fine, but when you check out they again hit you with the 2 taxes. The staff are nice and friendly.

Cute resort, not so cute accomodation.

Some of the other reviews for this property speak very highly of this resort, which is why we chose this property. Unfortunately, it was not what it seems.
Check-in was wonderful and staff at the property couldn't do enough, they were the saving grace for the stay!
Unfortunately, the private pool villa are in a poor condition and desperate need of upgrades. The small air-conditioning unit in the room struggled to keep it cool, with the holes in the grass ceiling/roof and poor seals around doors. One would think I had may have had the unlucky villa, but no, my friend who I travelled with had the villa next door, and it was the same.
The bed was comfy and did have decent sleep. The main property pool was very inviting but the private pool very sad. Rust all around and unkept. Even the main drain hole was literally a big hole with pipes, no cover! The outdoor bathroom was always full of insects, especially caterpillars and ants. A power hose would do wonders to give the bathrooms a new lease on life. There was also some inconsistencies between the rooms that should be seen to.
The restaurant served a decent breakfast and the complimentary shuttle to the main strip a nice touch.
This resort is in a great quiet location with beautiful amenities, and with some genuine care can be a great place for longer stay. Please update the rooms/villas... would be such a shame to just let them deteriorate, so much potential.

Walking through the gates of Visakha was like walking into an oasis.
The staff are welcoming and happy. It was lovely to see the same faces and talk to manager Jay.
My family of 4 stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. Everything was clean and inviting. With an outdoor bathroom downstairs and great space, mini bar, robes and slippers we felt relaxed.
The pool was cool for dip anytime and with the lovely garden surrounds everywhere, it was very tranquil.
We ate a few meals on premises as well as the complimentary breakfast and enjoyed traditional Balinese dishes while the boys could also get a pasta or burger.
Each day we caught the free shuttle into the centre 5min drive to enjoy some shopping and the beach.
We experienced onsite massages and pedicures in a beautiful peaceful beauty space and got some washing cleaned which came back folded and ironed.
Reception is only an internal call away and we’re there for all our needs.
Transfers to the airport and late checkout was arranged.
We will return here, for a tranquil relaxing stay and 5mins drive to the centre.

We stayed here on our last night of trip. We had the private pool villa and the house was huge. We were welcomed with friendly staff. We ate breakfast and dinner here and both options were tasty for two picky American eaters. We used the shuttle to get to downtown Sanur since it is about a 5 minute drive away. We really enjoyed our stay here and the property is beautiful

The staff were exceptional! The villas were stunning with private pool. We had a family suite with 2 separate bedrooms that was updated and very spacious. Only a few minute taxi ride to restaurants. They also have a shuttle service to Ubud during the day. Very pleased with the immaculate grounds, central pool besides the private pool and their restaurant was very good.

A useful guide if you are thinking of staying here

I found this Hotel on this site and we arrived late ona flight from London - it is at the end of a dingy badly lit street whose neighborhood is best described as a slum. On arrival I went albeit reluctantly into the front courtyard and was simultaneously shocked and appalled by the basic nature of the Hotel - dirty concrete slab as reception - badly lit and frankly terrifying - the only redeeming feature of my visit to the Hotel was the kindness of the taxi driver in ensuring the speediest of exits to find a real hotel for us.

Great get away from the busy world and just escape to peace and quite. Great location and the staff is amazing and the food is great too. You must try the Balinese breakfast. It’s amazing. On the cautionary side ...the water pressure for the sink and shower are a bit low but manageable and it’s sort of located off the beaten path.... but I would recommend this place.

My husband and myself stayed here for four nights as the start to our 10th anniversary celebration,but it wasn't a good experience.
We had booked a two bedroom villa on Expedia with private pool .
From the time we arrived we were appalled by the state of the approach and entrance to the hotel .The entire resort lacks upkeep and maintenance.Stained garden umbrellas,dirty torn tray cloth on which our welcome drink was served,Airconditioning which didnt work well at night,bath tubs which we couldn't use as the plumbing hadn't been checked ,dirty pools in the common area and our private one, and foul smelling water when using the shower for bathing.The traditional Balinese style room was beautiful but the photographs on the net do not accurately depict the rundown state of the resort.
We wanted to check out after the first night and Kadek the manager helped us to search for alternate accommodation, but being peak season in Sanur we were unable to get anything suitable.So we ended up staying here all the nights.Kadek was very helpful but our stay here was a big disappointment.

This hotel is badly overpriced for what it is able to provide. A real scam. The buildings and grounds have
been badly let go. The gardens are not cared for. The swimming pool isn't very clean. The photographs online are not recent. The location is very isolated and 'luxury spa' is not an accurate description. Do not believe the great price reductions online. Some of the employees try to help but some of the employees were very rude. With all the guests miserable and trapped it can't be a fun place to work - but the website advertisement and room costs are outrageous for what they are able to offer. On some nights you will have planes that sound as though they are landing on your head the entire night - and the airport does not have a cut off time for incoming or outgoing flights so the noise does not stop.

This was my third time to Bali but my partner's first. We chose Sanur because it suited our lifestyle and chose the KaMaya as it looked beautiful, which it really was. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was a problem. We had the best time and can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed our Lanai room with plunge pool. Very refreshing. Also the main pool and setting. We had a couple of trips in to Sanur, where there are smart shops, also a great, little shopping center.
The hotel shuttle drop you in town and you take a taxi back for $3.00.
We went to the beach one day, and have to say we did not like it one bit! We much rather stay at the hotel.
I had a very nice, relaxing massage at the hotel spa. We found the prices on everything very reasonable.
At least one person at the hotel spoke very good English, and all the staff were very friendly and smiley.

The Best Hotel Experience Ever

We recently stayed at kaMAYA for 8 days and it was absolutely the Best Hotel Experience. We were originally booked into a Villa with private pool which was beautiful. The following day, they upgraded us to another Villa (The Kesara) and that was absolutely amazing. You can view the photos of this room in the Gallery on their website. The staff were so helpful with anything you required. The breakfast each morning was perfect. We only had dinner twice there but it was delicious every time. We had massages everyday at the resort and it was an hour of bliss every time. The resort is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for the ultimate relaxed atmosphere, totally private and true Balinese style with attention to detail and outstanding service. It is a little hidden and a half hour walk into the centre of Sanur but the resort has it's own Driver that will drop you into Sanur anytime you like and complimentary. A taxi back to the resort is only $3. Eka is the main lady at Reception and she was fantastic and made our stay so wonderful. If you are after the PERFECT getaway.... This is it.

Nice traditional Balinese style hotel

We stayed for 8 nights in a Lanai with pool. The room was decorated in Balinese style and was very comfortable. It had a king-sized bed and very elegant cotton drapings. The bathroom was well appointed, and an outdoor style, which was a great novelty but did allow lots of mosquitos to enter the bedroom if the door was left ajar. The airconditioning was excellent. The pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable, but the mattress was firm, yet comfortable. There was no TV, which was nice, but wouldn't have detracted from the room had there been one.

Given the distance from Sanur, we were anticipating very tranquil, quiet surrounds. This was not the case- almost every day there was a man on a PA system, we think organising a local festival, and a concert on our last night that went until midnight. The days there wasn't the man bellowing instructions in Indonesian, there was loud construction from a nearby villa.

We were also told that we weren't entitled to breakfast as we had booked a cheaper room rate with Expedia. I thought we were, but left it at that. Found out on our return that we were entitled to breakfast. Not impressed at this as they insisted we pay US$15 for breakfast, which we declined and bought from local supermarkets instead. Access to WIFI would have solved this as I could have retrieved my booking to show them.

All in all, it was a lovely stay, but given the distance to everything, we would probably not return.

Absolutely loved our stay at KaMaya. Could not recommend this resort enough. It is a very peaceful place to relax and unwind. Our Villa with a pool was amazing. Lovely gardens, large comfortable rooms and no TV. Was nice to feel cut off from the outside world (there was excellent wifi though). All the staff were very friendly and were always willing to help with any queries.
Can highly recommend the spa treatments as well. More expensive than those available elsewhere in the tourist areas but far superior.

A hidden gem!

Loved every minute of the stay at kaMAYA. The originally booked garden villa was upgraded to a villa with a pool, and what a difference that made! The room was comfortable, beautiful and even luxurious. The bathroom is outstanding, even though is somewhat exposed to the elements, so dragonflies, mosquitoes and other moths constantly buzz around. After all that, taking a bath was the most relaxing and enjoyable (and romantic) time! Also, loved spending time in the pool! The hotel is within walking distance to the beach, but it's not evident from the start. The hotel car took us to the beach club, and that place was very simple and rustic but great for those who are looking for a bit of peace and quiet (away from the popular Kuta and Seminyak locations). The hotel food is superb. Took a cooking class and sincerely enjoyed the afternoon being silly in the kitchen with the head chef!

A must read before booking

A get away from everything, not close to anything but they will drive you to shops and you take a taxi back ($2.50 cad). We had our own pool which was filthy but they added some chemicals and by the 3 rd day it was not to bad. Do not order the food!!!! Our first meal consisted of raw ( cold and red on the inside) satays and unfortunately we ate 3/4's of our burgers before noticing the black mold on the bottom buns. So that was our first meal the second one was not much better we got raw bacon and our butter had a squished cricket on it. The place was quiet as there was only one other family there but my biggest problem with this resort was the lack of water pressure, there was not enough to take a shower so we decided to run a bath but after 25 minutes of sitting watching it fill ( cant leave as lots of frogs so you gotta make sure they do not jump in) it had only filled up one inch. If you are planning to stay here I would strongly reconsider.

The hotel is very cozy and beautiful.The services were wonderful and the staff helped us with all our enquiries. We had a private pool and we barely met any other guests. It felt very secluded and real. We feel like we had the real 'balinese' experience. The hotel has a lot of nature, perfect place to disconnect from your crazy daily life and reconnect with yourself. A perfect place to rest.

Typical Balinese style hotel. Whole hotel looks special and different from other 'standard' ones. Friendly hotel staff. A 20 minute walk from center of Sanur. Overall experience was nice.

There are flies in the open restaurant and mosquitos in my room. But I would take it natural in a rural and sanctuary style hotel, more fact stating than complaining.

Loved Kamaya resort. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the Sanur strip and beach but easy to get the free shuttle bus into town or the beach (5 minutes) and if the bus is not available, a taxi costs only a couple of dollars.
We had a beautiful lanai room with a private pool - our own peaceful sanctuary - where a delicious breakfast was served for us each morning. The staff were friendly and nothing was too difficult for them to arrange. We will definitely go back to Kamaya next time we are in Bali.

This was the first hotel we stayed at during our vacation at Bali. We were attracted by the hotel because it was near a beach. The hotel is near a body of water, but I would not consider it as a beach. There's a lot of areas were you can walk around, but that's about it. So the second day, we stayed at the hotel. We had a wonderful massage and we did a delicious cooking class. Overall, we had a wonderful experience.

Stayed in the villa with private pool. Very nice rustic feel with Balinese style roofing. Why stay in a western style hotel that feels like you're in any other random country, than experience Balinese styling with all the comforts. Location was a little far from the western side attractions of Kuta and Seminyak etc, but taxi's are a plenty and reasonably cheap. Plus Bali is a small island and it doesn't really take long to get anywhere.

Ideal location for a total chill

Lovely welcome from staff. We stayed in Standard Villa with private Pool and really appreciated the seclusion and privacy. The room was large and although the bathroom was in need of an update was clean. The complimentary transport to the Beach Club and town was a bonus, however we enjoyed the walk passing through the residential area and watching the locals enjoying their family time. Breakfast was offered to be delivered to room but we enjoyed having it in the tranquil dining area beside the pool where we felt like the only guests!

Nice Attap House styled resort villa.

Queit and serene enviroment. Not too much of guests (or we didn't bump into more than 5 guests, probably due to low season). Raining most days. But overcast and sunny for a fair bit. Laid back beach town. Missus and i spent alot of quality time. No distractions such as television or etc. Was a gd holiday for us both.

This resort first opened in 1999. Half was sold off last year and they changed the name from Wakamaya to Kamaya. The photos on Expedia made the place look pretty good, but the reality is that it is old, rundown, and needs a good cleaning. The resort is not far from the beach, just two or three kilometers, but their \"beach club\" is part of a little coffee shop and is the closest place to the outlet of the river. It is dirty and smells. You can take a short walk along the beach and find all sorts of resorts that are much nicer, and newer, and right on the water.

But, the real problem is that the resort is in the wrong place. Anything you will want to see in Bali is some where else. It would have been better to stay in Kuta.

The hotel advertised it was near the beach. It was in fact, behind Benoa Harbour with a mangrove swamp/creek between and a 3 km hike to the lower end of Sanua. The hotel was not attractive to look at needing new paint and the thatching on the roofs was disintegrating.
One guest said that half of her bed was soaked in a downpour.
Staff were, on the other hand were really good, polite and efficient.

Very Peaceful and Pleasant place

I was here for Honeymoon and we were vegetarians . The staff were so good that they completely prepared a new Menu based on our requirements .

Food is excellent and I think I never tasted like that before . Staff were very pleasing and helpful. Even though we didn't opt for honeymoon package they offered as free honeymoon cake and decorated room and bath tub with flowers .
Never opt for Taxi transfer from the hotel as it will be expensive rather you can go for regular meter taxis which they can order it from the hotel .
Only disappointment is the Sanur beach which has no life in it . Kuta is the place we should have gone for . No complaints to Resort as it was exceptional :)

Great romantic hotel for couples

Nice private boutique hotel and villas that offers a special romantic and traditional Balinese architectural setting. We booked a Lanai with private pool and thorougly enjoyed our stay and accomodations. However, the only drawbacks are that this hotel is not within walking distance from Sanur's restuarants and shops and does not offer direct beach access but the hotel is happy to shuttle their guests to and from the beach.

Gorgeous hotel, private rooms and a quiet getaway.

Fantastic experience with kaMAYA. Service was excellent both from staff and any 3rd parties they suggested. Hotel is clean with more then adequate rooms (highly suggest going for a villa with private pool). The shuttle that is provided easily makes up for the slight distance to Sanur.

My wife and I literally spent days just lounging by the private pool indulging in room service which is a first for us as we usually prefer to wander around. Go with a private pool and give it a shot.

I would stay here again.

Great service, good facilities. The main pool is not very big, but nice enough if you want to laze around in. There is a hotel shuttle that can take you to Sanur Beach or Sanur city, which actually gives you the best of both worlds - the villa is in a quiet residential area, and the beach and city are just a convenient 5-10 minute drive away. We had some problems with our room (light bulb in bathroom went out, we didn't like the smell of the air purifier), which were fixed within hours of us telling the staff. The bathrooms are huge! There is a shower and a large bath tub. The traditional Balinese massage we got at the villa's spa was superb, well worth the price. Kinda nice to stay in a place with no TV (they have wifi). The room service/food options at the villa are pretty limited though, but obviously there are a lot of other eating options nearby. We only ate our breakfasts at the villa - these were really good and had a number of options.

Sanur Location without the resort feel

Hotel has beautiful Bali Villas with outdoor bathrooms. Pool was superb and staff were very friendly. Supploied breakfasts were excellent. Shuttle service to town but we mostly walked because the boardwalk along the Sanur beachfront is a highlight.

The hotel was as we expected from other reviews. It is a 30 minute walk to the nearest restaurant which we didn't mind, but others may find too much. The Resort does offer a free shuttle into town but you have to get your own transport (or walk# back. The meal prices at the Resort were extortionate. The staff were very friendly but the cleaner assumed that any money left in the room was a tip - even on the first morning when she hadn't done anything. We didn't get the money back. The ambience was great - waking up every morning to the birds trilling in the trees was wonderful but then the sound of two children fighting in the pool #right next to our room) was not so pleasant. Overall, an enjoyable place to stay

It's a good hotel to relax

We reached there in low season, Jan 2013. The hotel is clean. I feel that it needs a little bit more of maintenance. Linens and towers are clean. We have no problem with it. There is only one power outlet inside my room (it’s a lanai with pool). Thus, I had to arrange timing to charge my gadgets such as phones and cameras.

It’s a wonderful garden hotel. I fell in love with Balinese architectural style and it arrangements. During my stayed, having breakfast beside my private swimming pools made me forget my busy life.

The spa in the hotel looks nice and clean. I just miss out my chance to try spa as my arrangement are too rush.

It would be better if I can get more lighting in my room. Even I switch on all lights; I found out that it’s still dark. Introducing adjustable lightings could be a solution.

It’s rainy season in Bali. Mosquitoes are everywhere on the island. It may be ok of locals but we can’t stand for it. It’s so painful though. We don’t like insecticide smell in our air-conditioned bedroom. The hotel should find better solution to tackle mosquito problem for rainy season.

It is 30 minutes drive from busy and crowded Denpasar city which is good. It has free shuttle bus service to Sanur beach. It is more family friendly beach compare to Kuta. The restaurants at Sanur are so good.

For all in all, I feel so happy of staying there. Staffs are friendly. It worth what I paid. I already recommended my close friend on this hotel.

Wonderful hotel & very relaxing stay

This is a wonderful sanctuary hotel type hotel with beautiful luxury rooms which are created in kind of natural / traditional style with straw roofs, but all the mod cons behind this. Our room had a private pool and 4 poster bed. Walking into this hotel is like walking into an ancient kingdom. The room is clean. The only drawback is that the hotel is not in the centre of Sanur or right next to the beach but they provide a free shuttle car. I would go back to Waka Maya.

Amazing place to relax, within easy taxi from the airport, so especially after a long haul flight.

The pool area is amazingly beautiful and the rooms absolutely amazing. The sunken bath tub with private garden view was a very pleasant surprise.

Absolutely perfect - ideal for honeymooners

I thoroughly recommend Waka Maya to anyone. This boutique resort was quiet, peaceful and well maintained. The staff were superb and the food was divine. We will definitely be going back. It IS out of the way, bordering the mangroves, but there are several drivers ready to take you to the main street in Sanur which is only 5 minutes away. Besides, we stayed there to relax, not to shop, so it was perfect.

Villa was in the Balinese style and very comfortable and the bed very romantic with all the netting, only complaint was lack of drawers or a cupboard to put Tshirts etc. Hanging space was in the bathroom. Had to live out of suit case.

A very relaxing stay

I had a great experience at the WakaMaya. I was a little surprised at the location and the fact that it wasn't on a beach front, but the hospitality and the sheer tranquility of the place made up for lack of a beach front. The beach is couple of minutes drive or a five minute walk and they have a pick-up and drop service to the beach. The room was amazing. I loved it for its local flavor. It just didn't feel like a commodity hotel room. Loved the bathrooms and the private pool. It was raining at times and during the night the sounds were not like that of any touristy city. It felt as if I was in the middle of tropical forest. The staff were very helpful, the breakfast was great and I will definitely go there the next time I am in Bali.

Very nice...

Very nice relaxed environment. Ideal for the lazy traveler who just want to relax in privacy. Is about 3km for Sanur town centre, so if you do not mind walking it is good, otherwise, get some wheels. :-)
