A little underwhelming

A little underwhelming, it's a nice enough hotel, but it's a little dated, the bed was very squeaky and not very large and we weren't impressed with the way we were greeted. First time travelling with our 4 month old so I forgot to put them on the reservation (that's on me for sure) but rather than an understanding, accommodating welcome, we were greeted with an dismissive, accusatory tone that I would not expect from a 5 star establishment that cost over R2000/night. They didn't set up a cot or anything, unlike other hotels that we stayed with on this trip who understand the pressure of travelling with small children and were incredibly accommodating. I'd say this hotel is not bad, but you could get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Finally, it isn't the hotel's fault, but there are a ridiculous number (at least 10 depending on the roads in) of large speed bumps on all roads that lead to the hotel which is just a bit of a pain.

Busy at breakfast and forgot about me. Was sitting there for a while before they remembered. I had to then remind them about the toast! Able to stay by the pool and. Leave bags after check out and make a cup of tea. Otherwise a good stay- friendly and clean.

Delightful.

Really friendly with good advice. Comfortable and roomy with a good shower. Easy Uber to Sandton and Rosebank. Sebo and all staff were more than friendly and went out of their way to help. Decided to go back at the end of the week as it was so easy on Gautrain from the airport.

Good stay, small things can improve.

Room needs general maintenance. Bath fitting leaking when trying to switch on shower attachment. Ceiling cornices in rooms need touching up. Kitchen arrangement not 100% clear. Dining table leg is loose. Parking lots should be better controlled, other guests park incorrectly and rob others the chance of undercover parking.

Must stay over many 100 dollar hotels/Airbnbs

Been in Joburg a few times for business and normally try AirBnBs. This was well above any experience I have had any previous stay. It is incredible for the price and the best perks in my opinion are not a lot rooms, heated floors, good gate system and the service was amazing. I was met at the entrance and they addressed me by name. Many people don't rent cars due to most being stick, steering wheel on the other side and driving on the other side so being able to easily call uber and ubereats though the gate is a god send.

Having stayed at a chain hotel in Johannesburg earlier in our trip, I was eager to see how different the bed and breakfast route might be. I was not disappointed at all. This was so much better. The property is beautiful and the staff so friendly. The room was surprisingly big for the same price as the hotel. The fact that you get breakfast on top of it (continental or cooked for you) puts it over the top. I would very happily stay here again.

Amazing accommodation would highly recommend this place. All the rooms are big modern and clean. I’ve stayed here twice now and when in joburg I wouldn’t stay anywhere else now. It has a very homely feel. Jackie the owner is lovely and super friendly.

The Hyde Park Villas are located in a safe and tranquil neighbourhood. Shops such as the Hyde Park Corner are a short walk away and Rosebank Mall is a bus stop away. The place itself is neat,rooms are clean with well tended gardens outside. The host is on hand to cook a home-made sumptuous breakfast. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the place. It offers a luxury stay at a great price.

We had a fantastic stay at Hyde Park Villas! Clean, comfortable, and well equipped room in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Beautiful garden. Rich tasteful breakfast. $3 Uber drives to great Rosebank / Standton restaurants as well as to the HOHO bus, thereby having an efficient way to tour the city. And then, when we taught the guesthouse had everything we needed, then came Samantha, the manager. We consulted her regarding a few issues - she gave us great advice and did above and beyond to confirm our issues were resolved. It was great to have a trusted local in a foreign city. Hyde Park Villas aims to provide guests with a home away off home -- and they deliver, big time. Thank you so much!!!

We received a very warm welcome. Room had a huge terrace overlooking a tropical garden and the pool. Excellent breakfast.
Couldn’t have asked for more. Easy access to good restaurants. We used Uber rather than taxis. Efficient and cheap!

Lovely location residential but easy Uber access.Room was very modern huge bathroom and very comfortable.We had a interconnecting door and shared balcony which wasn’t expected but wasn’t a problem.However could here next door through the connecting door a bit.Owner very nice and accommodating.A little odd the security man on the gate shows you to the room!! No phone in the room and often couldn’t see anyone around.Enjoyable stay though.

We really enjoyed the place. Glad we didn't book a hotel.
Quiet and safe neighborhood.
We used Uber to go everywhere. E.g. Sandton city is about 10 minutes ride and costs about R30-40 (about USD 3).
The place is built in high standards, the room and the bed were very pampering. Breakfast was pretty good although it ends quite early on weekdays (09:00). Don't forget to order your French toast or omelette.
Don't be doubtful between this place and a city hotel. You'll get much more here for your money.....
Jackie the manager was always helpful. As we had a night flight she allowed us to check out at 7pm with no extra charge (as the room was unsold that evening). Very convenient.

Nice villa hotel in a safe neighborhood

Located near down town of Sandton, very good for anyone with a car, since public transportation is not reliable in this country. I drove to this villa hotel with GPS, and quie impressed by the well maintained facility and yard. It's an ideal hotel if you want a good rest after a long day. The lady manager is very friendly, and breakfast is good.

I was here for 2 nights and had a great stay. Jackie kindly picked me up from the station and later dropped me off too. She also organised a tour for me with a reliable and informative guide. The room was very comfortable, spacious and well fitted out. The area feels safe and quiet.

Beautiful and quiet, located in a ritzy area. Jackie, our hostess was very kind, helpful. Extensive breakfast in a pleasant and bright room. Spotless bedroom and bathroom which had a big shower area as well as a bathtub. A little bit far but Uber comes to the rescue.
Went there to rest after a 10 day safari and before returning home.

Great place with amazing staff

They were able to receive me when our flight was late (3am). The accommodations were very nice and we were able to get assistance with retrieving sim cards so that we could have phone service during our stay in SA.
The only thing that I would be alert of is that the in room internet requires an account with a local provider. You need an email to have it setup but can't set an account up if you don't have access to that email. A bit of a catch-22.

The customer service here was wonderful. Missed the one night stay because of flight delays/missed connections but was warmly greeted on check out day and invited to stay as long as necessary to shower and rest before continuing on. The property is listed as 5-star but I would actually say it is 4-star (property is in good condition and comfortable but not as luxurious as you would expect from a 5-star), but the service is definitely 5++ stars which more than makes up for it.

I stayed for 1 night and had such a lovely time! Jackie made sure I was well taken care of. I felt very safe and comfortable. I really liked how huge both the room and bathroom were! One thing to keep in mind- this is a guesthouse and you are in a residential neighborhood. If you are hungry and it's late you will need to order food in or stop somewhere before you arrive.

What a fabulous place to spend a few days. Wish we could have stayed longer. Jackie was such a treat. She has a wealth of knowledge for a hapless traveler like me. She even drove us to the rental car place to order our car. The room was impressive. Largest bathroom I've ever seen, The breakfast was to die for. Make to order just how you liked it. This beautiful bed and breakfast was just what we needed for our trip to Joburg. It was close to a mall that had a hop on hop off tour. The breakfast was amazing with omlettes and French toast as well as a continental style option. The owner was so kind. She even gave us a ride to one of our destinations. Security receives you at you vehicle and shows you around the property and to your room, a bit odd, but efficient. The security guard was very friendly and helpful, even washed our car. The staff was attentive and friendly and the manager was awesome at breakfast. One of the best breakfast we have had at a B&B ever. Wide variety and excellent quality.

Great B&B type establishment, in great part of JNB

Location is great, located in Hyde Park area. Property is kept clean and up to date. Rooms are spotless, housekeeping great. Security is maintained with a gated/walled off electric fence. (As is common for most house in JNB) Jackie the manager is wonderful, and because of her the property has won either top in South Africa or the province for past few years. In fact she just took another award this last week.

Breakfast is cooked to order, with whatever you want.

Staff go all the way. I stayed a little over year ago for first time. They remembered me when I called to make a change to reservation. In fact when I got to my room there was a fan in place. They remembered that I like having air circulation in the room. (The AC/Heater works fine, I just become uncomfortable without air circulation)

Great Guest House Hotel

The owner is on site and takes care of everything, Breakfast was included and it was very good. No buffet, individual orders of hot items. Great beds. I like firm but not too hard. Laundry service is 3 hours! Small lap pool, nice garden. Gate guarded.

We rented a car and the GPS was kind of funky getting from the airport. Remember it is on 3rd Road 28B near 11th. Has a small driveway and a lighted sign. Taxi or limo should have no problem.

We had a lovely stay! Beautiful area. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious with a private balcony as requested. The only \"complaints\" that had me give it a 4 instead of a 5 were minor things like no reception / front desk staff, instead security showed us around (which was a bit odd), the shower wasn't clean, the roof of the breakfast area in front of our balcony was a bit odd/unpleasant & staff having lunch at the pool when i wanted to use it. Otherwise a lovely venue!!

Great hotel. In fact I couldn't fault this hotel and the staff. The manager, Jackie, was so helpful as was Steph who was there when Jackie wasn't. The location is excellent and in a good area convenient for Wanderer's stadium, Hyde Park Shopping Centre and Sandton City. Taxi's plentiful and efficient way of getting around. Breakfast at hotel was a great start to the day as well.

Pictures hardly do justice

None of the pictures on any of the web sights we saw did this place justice. Set in a lush and beautifully tended garden behind a guarded wall (perhaps doubtful how necessary this is as we walked about in the neighborhood in the dark each evening without fear or incident)the internal rooms are airy tasteful and generally attractive. The new rooms are outstanding. If you are into minimalism you are probably in heaven - all glass, white and chrome. However if you are not - and that includes me - you could easily find it 'grew on you' and has everything you need at hand. Beside the two wash bowls (both albeit a tad small) there's lots of space for shaving stuff and toiletries. Hot drinks facilities are most generous stylishly housed under spacious work tops. The large sliding glass mirror doors run as smoothly as a Swiss Railway train - though they do either obscure either the TV or the contents of your wardrobe (so no keeping up with one of 300 TV stations whilst you are getting dressed) In design terms this is the Bang and Olafson of Accommodation (A classy Scandinavian Hi Fi System that takes external design into an art form)

Does all this suggest a kind of ultra cool rather withdrawn general atmosphere? Far from it! Jackie, the host gives the warmest Nottinghamshire welcome and hospitality - extending from an instant pot of tea - to running you down into Rosebank. All in all it's a wonderful combination of all you could look for in accommodation.
